World wide isone thing but canada has to worry about their own

1.5 million immigrants per year coming into Canada.........completely unbalanced. There is No defence of this and no logic. It's burdening the entire country....and the world. We should stop and replicate Poland.

110k thousand people a month. We are building 250k houses a year. Math is hard, I get it. But this isn’t a hard problem. Stop letting in so many people, or start the largest series of construction Canada and possibly the world has ever seen. Please, blame the govt. I don’t think citizens or immigrants are to blame. Finding stable work in Canada is a challenge these days even for permanent residents/new citizens. No guarantee of work even after acing an interview and building skills as needed. At this point I feel like immigrants are just tax paying scapegoats, who are used by the government and hated by local people. This is not real inclusiveness. Govt must give priority to their citizens and encourage immigration if there are real opportunities to offer. Everyone needs work and stability inorder to live a civilized and stable life. Calling loads and loads here to benefit the economy and politicians just be called third world trash isn’t fair.

Canada was far more prosperous before it went on its immigration rampage, and it was far more civilized == therefore the idea that enormous 3rd world immigration leading to prosperity does not add up.

Dear Canada, if you stop putting your nose in other country's affairs and stop following your big bully cousin, USA in meddling in evry corner of the world with the not-funny anymore DEMOCRACY, perhaps, people in Africa and middle east would leave their homeland less to move to your country; and, the Canadian people can pay less tax and keep their living standard.

Most people in Canada do like immigrants and try and want to accept newcomers . I am happy to see new faces younger people, people with a different outlook. However this lack of housing is a major problem for poor and lower middle class people - citizens and noncitizens. Unfortunately rents are a racket in most cities, the real estate business is full of unnumbered accounts and money laundering; Canada is full of organized crime from all over the world, we cant control foreign attempts at killing our citizen. So we can tell our government is not efficient and is doing a poor jobHowever I dont think the average immigrant is the problem and I feel they are treated like rubes by our government and taken advantage of and so are Canadians of different ethnic backgrounds who also suffer the same problems of many immigrants. That's the truth. Letting people in with out providing opportunities for jobs, housing, support is foolish and destructive to our country. Why do people say when people are crossing either from Mexico or Canada into America, but in reality is both countries are both in America. America is a continent the United States is a country but America is actually a continent. America has a bunch of countries. It has Canada, United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Chile, and a few other American countries so why do people in the United States and the rest of the world call the United States America, but reality is when you say America you could be talking about any other country. It’s like saying Europe is a country but in reality is it’s a continent.

After Covid - in Pak & Ind - Canada was the most desired destination. I made some analysis about Canada before deciding to apply for immigration and reached to the conclusion that Canada is falling soon (not as a country but for the immigrants so don't get hyper on me :)) So just be wherever you are because the world is going crazy. My landlord has like 10 properties that he uses illegally in things like airbnb and renting on cash. On just the top floor, there are like 10 people and I am paying like $1650 for a single room with ensuite washroom. This landlord subleases the house for things like airbnb and he is not even the owner and yeah basically, Canada is country where all the con men come from around the world where they have learned to find loopholes in the system come to practice it here. We can't even dream of having a house of our own because these people with crazy money just buy up all the properties. 1 man ends up having so many houses where others can't even buy 1 and so we have to resort to paying rent/morgage of these people who keep multiplying their properties.

The problem of immigration is everywhere in the Western world, and the anti-immigration sentiment is just a normal and healthy reaction. \nThis massive immigration influx pushes the increase in prices of housing to mad levels, and it's just a matter of time that the entire population realises about it.\nHere in Spain it is already unsustainable, crazy prices, no rent units available. So I guess only anti-immigration political parties will win the elections from now on. And it will be fair.

The strain on the public health care system is outrageous and the tables have turned. Canada is sliding into a third world country. Go to the E R department anywhere in your city and look around and see for yourself. Not many English or French speaking people crowded in the waiting rooms waiting double digit hours to seek medical aid. Very grim situation and that is the reality here folks.

This would only make sense to me if we weren't sitting on stolen land and if the West didn't mess up other parts of the world for our benefit. People are suffering and escaping situations precipitated by our governments, and we don't acknowledge our luck in being born into our circumstances. Canada, Australia, and the US can't whine while sitting on stolen land and an extensive history of colonialism. This intolerance wouldn't be as hypocritical and selfish coming from citizens of most other countries.

Zero-net population growth or very slow growth is desirable for a host of reasons. Immigration is not inherently a virtue. Not inherently a vice either. Its value depends entirely upon the context in which it is taking place. Here are some reasons why Canada should reduce immigration to achieve eventual zero-net population growth.\n\n(1) The ecology: Canada is possibly the world's worst country per capita in producing waste – certainly among the worst. (a) As of now we have a population of 40 million. At its present rate of growth our population will reach 50 million in 2041. This will require a 20% reduction in waste production per capita simply to keep waste production at the present level. This reduction will not happen. (b) In addition, freshwater resources cannot be expanded at all, really (desalinization can only produce a drop in the bucket). Hence, look for shortfalls in water availability. (c) From a global perspective, it is the rich countries, such as Canada, that pollute the most, both absolutely and on a per capita basis. Therefore rich countries should not increase their populations. Immigrants do not come to rich countries to be better ecologists than the citizens of those countries. Immigrants to Canada want to live like Canadians, as Canadians. The problem here is not that they will not assimilate to Canadian ways, but that they will. \n\n(2) Housing: with 500,000 new immigrants a year, housing starts cannot keep pace. The result: ever-inflating housing costs. Rich immigrants compound the problem. \n\n(3) Suburbanization: most of the new housing in Canada is in highway suburbs (over 80%), with their car-driven way of life. Once again, this is bad for the country’s ecological health. In addition, the result will be ever-growing geographies of nowhere. We will not be creating more Victorias or Quebec Cities. We will be creating more Surreys. \n\n(4) Downward pressure on the incomes of most people: the law of supply and demand is very simple: when there is a surplus of any commodity, that commodity becomes cheaper. When a commodity is scarce, its value rises. Labor is a commodity. Workers rightly do not want there to be a surplus of labor. Their livelihoods are threatened. \n\n(5) Future care of the old: the more people we add now, the more people we will have to take care of later, when their working lives are done. Adding immigrants now to pay for the care of the old is therefore a pyramid scheme. Eventually, in a generation or two, the population of the world is set to decline, and the well of immigrants will run dry. Canada should aim for fewer, rather than more, retirees – as preparation for that coming moment.

Great assessment. My wife left Vancouver 22yrs ago. It was bad then and has only gotten worse. Sadly the residents would rather smoke a joint than vote for a conservative govt and attend a church. Forget about GOD can't be surprised when he forgets about you. That said Australia is not much better and getting worse by the day. The reason govts love immigrants is because they bring money in and are obivious to the local politics so the govts simply continue to introduce more and more corrupt policies every year. Even after they become citizens they remained divided on political thought because they tend to have a duality of mindset which says, if it all goes bad I will go back to where I came from. Meanwhile the local population is so busy applauding a PM like Trudeau who leagalises pot so they can be so stoned while there country is stolen right out from under them. One of the wealthiest countries in the World? Don’t make me laugh. Canada is a Third World country with poor quality healthcare, poor infrastructure and unreasonable taxes. We get robbed blind by an incompetent government; where accountability does not exist. why does my High paying Taxes get me? NOTHING at all; at least, nothing tangible.

It is a very important thing to note that despite Canada being the second largest country in the world by landmass, the vast majority of the population lives 100km from the American border because the vast majority of the land has no infrastructure to have large scale habitation. Outside of the prairies and the st Lawrence valley, there is precious little farmland to sustain people. So we import a huge percentage of our food which can also attribute to rising costs (not the only factor but it doesn’t help). Geographically, this country can’t comfortably hold more than 36 million people. Our population really shouldn’t grow beyond that unless we have infrastructure to house and feed people, which we barely do for the people that live here let alone the folks coming in. I feel like people want to make it a race issue, but that’s misguided. Canada is not America. We can’t fill our country top to bottom with people it’s logistically too difficult. We literally don’t have the resources to grow beyond that roughly 36 million cap

Canada is rather a third class country and not world class

No country is responsible for people other than their own citizens. This includes Canada and any other country in the world. No country has the obligation to import people from other countries. If the immigration is beneficial for any country it can take place. Once it's not beneficial any more it should be stopped. Nobody is entitled to a free meal, a free meal can be given because of generosity, not because of any pressure or obligation.

Ever since Trudeau opened up the borders making it very laxed for these 3rd world countries to enter Canada has become a dark hole.. 70s,80s,90s when it was difficult to enter the country strick border protection to protect us has gone down the drain. I wish it went back to the Era where CBSA use to enter factories or any work place and asked for citizenship if they deported. We don't want Canada to turn into a third world country. It isn't rocket science.

I'm not a Canadian. The rational question to ask is--how much of the problems noted are new and real; how much is due to immigration; how much is fabricated by self-seeking politicians; how much is due to the wealthy becoming wealthier; and what should we (all nations, not just Canada) do about world-wide inequity. I'm not saying that it is the wealthier nations' responsibility to provide for the less wealthy and the impoverished, but what should we do? Anything? Nor am I saying, we should have less so that others can have a little more. But should we ignore those who have less--far less? And, how much of the problem, real or not, is due to the reasons given in this video? In this video, I do not see any serious statistics or economic analysis. A theme in this video is that growth is essential. But there's a limit to that too. Maybe these are signs that the world of growth across the globe is ultimately doomed. Are we capable of understanding the world with sufficient precision? Or is all our economics ultimately a sham?

Problem is not immigration but how we are settling new immigrants. In the 1970s Canada accepted 200k Vietnamese refugees after Vietnam War. They were settled into small towns across Canada. That is why even in a small town with population of few thousands, we still have Vietnamese restaurants around the corner.\n\nLooking at the future, world is becoming more localized. While politicians are calling for setting up local manufacturing, they failed to comprehend the most basic economic principle that we need a labour force to have any industry or economy. Rather than setting up a better program to help immigrants intigrating into our economy, and stimulating development in less populated towns and provinces, they only know to stoke comflicts and scapegoating...\n\nI wish mandatory Econ 101 class is given to anyone running for office.

As an immigrant to Canada myself, I have to state the obvious, the problem isn't just about immigration as it is about the total lack of discernment. Unlike what this government seems to believe, not all cultures are the same. Canada can and should give preference to immigrants from other democratic countries. When you import the third world, you import its problems. It's commendable to try to save everybody, but your existing citizens have to come first. Canada can't save the third world by becoming a part of it...

The problem with some of the immigration is that some forget the values and ethics! I thought of moving to Canada too, but it felt really impractical. Canada is expensive, even to locals. This is what you get when you prioritize corporations over people, making the rich richer, and poor poorer. High rise condominiums bought by tax-evaders, and money launderers from all over the world, instead of livable communities. Happens almost everywhere in the world. I think everyone needs to live simpler, live in the province, or work from home, the cities are really getting unlivable nowadays, full of greedy corporations constantly fed by their cousins in the ranks.

The colleges bare responsibility on international students does someone have to come from India to study for a diploma in property management. Conestoga college looks like a third world country why would anyone young person from Canada want to go there. The colleges want the tution money from international students and they should be held acountable for the problems we are having.

A Sri Lankan who always gets misidentified as Indian reading the comments here. ? I moved here with the genuine purpose of studying for my LLM, after considering several countries. I was offered a scholarship from my university (a top ranking public university) I know several of my Indian colleagues who came to study & now work in universities & firms. I know educated people who came here from SL, India & other South Asian countries who came to study with the genuine purpose of studying & now pursuing PhDs here & elsewhere. I understand how concerned the whole immigration issue is for Canadians & new commers like us. I’ve always loved to study in Canada & now that I’m here just to see all these negative sides is truly heartbreaking. I was able to secure a decent apartment & decent job (both me & my husband)& so are my friends & colleagues. I love Canada & means no harm. I’d love to use my knowledge & serve developing countries like mine one day. I kindly request anyone reading my comment, please don’t judge. Why did we keep quiet for the past 2 decades when our government was not increasing incomes, didn't focus on housing supply especially cheaper apartments, but banks and politicians together put 4 times more burden on us when it comes to monthly mortgages or rents and groceries, now suddenly we call immigrants as the problem for everything. How will Canada impress the world if it targets the weakest people in Canada rather than working on the core issues, the poor refugees and immigrants who were welcome with open arms can never influence the powerful think about it dear Canadians ?

Well, Canada has a wonderfully diverse culture of people from all around the world. Canada is a desirable place to live. Immigration targets = housing targets for government.
