There are a lot of people that come here with a promise of a better life and the notion is that it’s instant. I want to confirm to you that it’s better life, but it’s not instant. You have to put in the work and prove your worth. You have to gain Canadian experience to get a decent job. Also be ready to go back to school and upgrade your skills. There are jobs here zinaitwa Trades. These are the jobs that we don’t value at home but pay amazingly well here. Construction, Electricians, Plumbers, Mechanics, Carpentry, Welding, Hairdressers, Tailors.. Those are very valued skills here- if you can invest in learning these trades but pia ukikuja hapa you have to convert your certs to Canadian ones by doing an exam or going back to school . If you are into office jobs, make sure you have market relevant skills that align to this country. Be ready to embrace the digital revolution and mpende hesabu. Accounting is very much valued here. The secret is be ready to start from the bottom, be ready to upgrade yourself, be ready to work like you’ve never worked before… You will make it eventually .. Mungu mbele! \nI am confirming that we are going through a recession here and as per the market trends, it’s only going to get worser until we get to a point of stabilization. The housing market is crazy, food costs and gas (fuel)costs are off the roof .. it’s not easy. So if you have a good job in Kenya, hold onto it for now until things get better ( due diligence /research) .. Make sure you have the right visa that allows you to work here. That visitors visa theory is not working anymore. \nOverall Canada is a good country with lots of opportunities but it’s not for the faint hearted. \nLastly, be prepared for the harsh winters and days of severe loneliness- Si lakini ni life? When I came here in Canada 33 years ago, I went do in legal process,My first employer offered me a job offer to come here in Canada,I went to whole legal process here,but I obeyCanadian law to have legal working visa ,and since day one paying taxes ,i earn my hard work after 30 years and receive early pension and still work in a full time job, My advice to illegal migrants follow what Canadian laws and go through legal process and crossing the right border to pass Not to way try find asylum to be free in every thing, in tax payers money.

@Lynn I’m Kenyan- Canadian. I’ve lived in for 24 yrs! It’s not a terrible place to work & live. Life here is all about your life style, I choose to work hard & play smart, I’ve managed to invest here in properties. Although it took me almost 10 yrs of working hard two jobs to achieve that! In short if you’re coming to ?? leave the party life style behind! Here no one has time for sherehe. Canada is extremely cold & long winters causes depression & loneliness. I tend to take couple holidays during winter ti break free from long dark days. Also remember self care is non negotiable. You have to look after your self it’s super important.

Happy birthday Lynn! I’m so happily amazed you touched on this subject. I am commenting from Canada and seeing people getting frustrated coming on visitor visa to look for work/convert visa to work permit. Even employers with LMIA approval are asking for work permits. Anyone coming to Canada should preferably secured a job or school before coming here. It is so so so expensive and jobs aren’t easy to get without Canadian credentials or experience . Any Canadian credentials including a certificate will up your game in getting a job. Meanwhile while in school you can now work unlimited hours but ensure you stay in school and finish. Be careful with agents promising jobs . It is hard here but once you get into the system hard & smart work pays. And getting into the system can only be done front door. What one pays an agent for visitor visa, you might as well do a one year certificate that’s approved for post graduate work permit. Less headache and better opportunities. When a deal sounds too good think twice- agents are really smooth talkers and super salespeople from what I’m told by those coming here through them. Be wise….I have no regrets coming here I wish I did it earlier as I’d have gained more through longer school options in my youth ?.

What I know is yes life in Canada is hard for Canadian. \nThey always complain why immigrants keep coming.\nCanada has enough people to work here they don’t need you to come from out to work. \nWorking in Canada need good skills and Canadian diploma.\nBut cause people will continue to come anyway let me tell you what to do. \n1 . Be a refuge and process a permanent resident when you still in Africa by using HCR that one is good\n2 . Family members ho live in Canada and working can bring you true government. \n\n3 . Canadians are smart with procedures, regulations, and laws. Their red tape will make even a qualified doctor give up and turn to be a taxi driver. There is no way you can work in canada without the right papers. People spend years repeating education they completed so as to get certified to work. People may be silent, but canada is one of the most expensive countries on earth. There were no real Rent Subsidies in Toronto like in New York though as the City was not meant for Foreign Nationals to Scam Rent Subsidies out of the Government. Bloomberg as Mayor of New York knew who was from New York and who was not. Toronto is getting to be that way as Hollywood Royalty is all Canadians who grew up in Richmond Hill and were working as Government Staff. There was a need to keep the Racketeering in check so Homeless Shelters were offered instead in Toronto by the City. There are Clones made by Britain who tried to take over Toronto and they became Homeless People on the streets. The Police would arrest them all the time. It became a real problem for the city. There is a neighbourhood watch program that alerted police to vagrants in Toronto who were ruining the city by peeing on the street corner. They were Charles III out with Fred of Balmoral as Vagrants. The Asylum Seekers now are the Butler to Charles III as a way to be belligerent toward the Royalty of Canada who hasts everybody in the Royal York now.

Southern Ontario is ugly as F**k, I was born here and have seen all the woodlands marshes and especially small streams and creeks disappear over the past 50 years. You have to drive a fair distance north to find an appealing landscape even driving to Niagra falls is a big disappointment now that it has become a giant shi*hole of overcrowded tikky takky shops and motels.Everyone thinks Canada is this huge country with tons of beautiful spaces to live while in reality 75% of the country is uninhabitable for farming or houseing which is shown in the rates of low inhabitants living farther north. 90% of Canadians live within a 1 to 2 hour drive of the U.S border for a reason because there is very little livable places to live in Canada if you don't want to live like an Eskimo. There are vast amounts of places to visit in the north in the summer time but to visit not to live. That leads to the question of why is Canada incentivizing peoples from more tropical climates to immigrate to a nation that is frozen 6 or 7 months a year which i think can lead to a lot of immigrants dealing with depression, its hard enough for the people born here but thats never discussed for fear of imprisonment by the government The government had 2 choices to which way to go in this country, the first was to find a way to pay for all the older citizens through CPP and OAS payments in the next 25 years which ment higher taxes and less money for the elderly citizens and the 2nd was mass very mass immigration to pay for these programs and in doing so turned the country into a place where no one can find a doctor no one can find or afford a place to live,cities have become overcrowed because they were not given the time to adjust thier infrastrutures to deal with all the new people and voila you have a giant shithole of a country.

I’m a Toronto born proud Canadian. And I DON’T agree with the immigration system. It’s stupid. Outright. Yes my parents are immigrants and I’m LUCKY to have been born here but it’s just a matter of no space and jobs suitable for the unaffordable housing crisis. It’s just a matter of people and space… That’s it. We aren’t animals that can comfortably live on farm land. We have massive condos here that are vacant because no one, especially not a millennial can afford it. Whatsoever. \n\nBut sure, I’ll probably be insensitive for saying that because it’s “racist”. When I really never cared to begin with. I love different cultures. I do. If anyone can vouch, it’s me. I can. Like you, I recently returned to Canada from living in Asia for years. I moved back to Vancouver, and the changes here were immense as well. Basically, the exact same issues Toronto is facing; unbelievably high prices, frayed social fabric, homelessness, crime. I had some pretty severe reverse culture shock coming from Seoul where you'd see none of this (Korea has its own unique issues though).\nI've decided to stick it out as my wife and I can make it work for now, but wouldn't recommend young Canadians, international students, TFWs or anyone who's trying to get a start on their professional life to come here. It's about as uninviting a place for your career as its ever been. Expect to live with two or three strangers in a one bedroom working at a job with low pay.\n\nIt sucks to see how far Canada has fallen. I never thought I'd see it in this state, but here we are.

The homeless situation is man made created by Liberals. They opened boarder to the every one from across the world specially from African countries who flew their country for crimes.. Winnipegger here who lived in Toronto 2014-2020, moved back to Wpg 2020-2021 and is now back in Toronto. \n\nFirst and foremost, your comments on crime are inconsistent with the data and blown out of proportion. I suggest viewers take a look at StatsCan’s crime severity index which confirms that Ontario is the safest province or territory in Canada (safer than PEI lol). There are also scores for cities and Toronto is safer than almost every other Canadian city, safer than even Ottawa or Calgary, twice as safe as Vancouver, nearly three times safer than Winnipeg. If we start comparing to US cities, it would be even more shocking. Suffice to say, Toronto is not only safe, but it’s the safest major city in Canada and one of the safest major cities on earth. \n\nThe homelessness crisis has certainly gotten a lot worse, sadly. As has the cost of living, but you get what you pay for.\n\nHaving travelled to 35 countries (doesn’t mean I’m an expert, but I have some experiences in other places), I respectfully disagree and think Toronto is one of the greatest cities. It’s one of the greenest cities in this continent, safe, on the lake, super close to other major cities, great infrastructure (relative to Canadian cities anyway), it’s beautiful and there’s a ton to do, not to mention the diversity. \n\nDon’t be turned off by this, if you can afford it, it’s one of the best places you could live on this planet.

I grew up in the states but am a dual Canadian citizen. I'd love to move to Canada one day but the cost of living compared to the low wages is a huge turn off. Even though the US has a host of problems, for my field (tech) all its major cities pay far beyond what any major city in Canada would.

The fact that Tyler is surprised at how many people bring up school shootings as a reason to stay away from the US is a scary indication of how much this type of violence has become normalized. I'm Canadian and throughout my professional life I've spent time working in the US. In fairness, I've met some truly great people. Also in fairness, religion seeps into US politics in ways that it never does in Canada and never in a good way. Christian fundamentalism is a scary reality of US life intent as it is on heaping hate on sexual minorities and taking away rights wherever they are allowed to. An additional point, but this one is only an irritant, is how ignorant so many Americans are about the world. At any rate, I'm retired and live with advanced kidney disease and a pacemaker. For those reasons alone I couldn't afford to live in the US. Thankfully, my country takes good care of me and my provincial government (Québec) even covers most of the cost of my expensive prescription drugs.

I met a guy from Canada & advised me its better to relocate to one of the less desired locations. I mean everybody wants to move to Toronto or Vancouver but there are also cities like Calgary or Nova Scotia. And I think there's a provincial nomination instead of the skilled workers program. I don't know how strictly they follow it but the Canadian system is supposed to give preference to Canadian citizens and permanent residents first.

Wow, I finally hear someone saying that Vancouver is ugly. I thought I was the only one. I’m from Europe so it was super obvious to me that there is no comparison with European cities and I always cringe when I hear that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities. It’s literally just the surrounding that is beautiful, not the city. Having said that, I disagree that this is common with all North American cities. Even with my European eyes, I adore the older North American architecture. I think architecture in Chicago is great. San Francisco is beautiful (without the homeless), so to me Vancouver is ugly even in the context of North America. Most of downtown Vancouver has either new boring glass condos or the older ones that look like buildings from communist era in Eastern Europe. And I became really upset about that because this beautiful spot on the west coast deserved beautiful city, it should have been Canadian San Francisco. Original in its own way, but beautiful. But it’s really not. I’m sure it was way more interesting city 50 years ago. I saw old photos and it had some character.

Each of the things you mention are also the reason why Canadian wages are pathetic, while cost of living is on average higher then the US. There’s a surplus of skilled workers, Canada don’t really need more engineers, they just end up driving Uber.\nAlso, the country quotas sound discriminatory but they’re just common sense, and the US understood this while Canada plays the politically correct game. Obviously, if a poor country has 1.4 billion people it will soon become the main source of immigrants. This creates social tension and it’s surely not what “diversity” is about, since there is no diversity when all those crazy numbers of immigrants come from one country

I don't know who you talked to but I can tell you most Canadians I hear from are not in favour of Trudeau's reckless immigration numbers and view that as one of the main reasons for the housing crisis. It's taken a long time but the media have even started to figure it out !

You forgot to list Las Vegas in your list of largest US Cities. The Las Vegas Metro area has 2.9 million people (while the city of Las Vegas itself is small, the real city is the metro area that contain Henderson, Sumerlin, Enterprise, Paradise, North Las Vegas, Green Valley, etc.) Your list excluded Las Vegas because Las Vegas is made up of a collection of cities not just one. I moved from Canada to the USA many years ago and the USA is definitely a better place to live. There was too much discrimination in Canada and the Canadian Healthcare system is just an excuse for you to not get any medical treatments. There is no freedom of speech in Canada and they use the high taxes to rob you. Maybe for all these reasons, the U.S. Economy is the strongest and most robust in the world. Don't take my word for it, Elon Musk is widely recognized as one of the smartest people in the world and he moved from Canada to the USA just like I did.

Comments from a Canadian. Homeless people are generally concentrated in the larger cities but in the past few years it has become a real problem. It is a real problem for the people when the temperature drops to -30C. Mental wellness is a huge issue. The racism issue is mainly against the indigenous. The doctor migration to the US is a money thing, not better conditions. Getting a family doctor is easy in some places and difficult in others, generally in rural communities. Getting a reference to a specialist is not an issue and I believe this may be a doctor specific issue. If your GP does not refer you, ER will take care of you. The issue with referrals is the triage system that may result in a longer wait to see the specialist. This is in contrast to the US where one can see a specialist very quickly, if one has insurance. In Canada, every citizen and legal resident has the ability to receive medical care as covered by the provincial medical systems which differs from province to province. Many doctors are now offering online communication with your GP and specialist. Your finance comments are inaccurate. There are 5 nation wide banks but there are also nation wide credit unions and provincial banks which in my opinion these tend to offer better service than the big 5 (exclude National Bank, which is big bank but more investment focused). Cell carrier monopolies is a real issue. Cell carriers are recently offering unlimited data, no long distance to the US, etc. Other countries have a definite advantage here. The government has enabled conditions for a new carrier a few times but eventually, these smaller carriers get swallowed up by the big national carriers. More recently Rogers bought out Shaw which limits our choices further. Sales tax is not always 10-15%. In Alberta the sales tax is 5%. Passing courses and evaluations ensures there are standards which is a good thing. Would you want a Civil Engineer designing a road or bridge that is not suitable for the climate? How about a doctor with questionable credentials? Agree with your recommendations for hiring. It is expensive to hire and train a new employee but can be much more expensive to fire an employee. Agree with the housing crisis comments and the reasons. Getting an absent owner to fix a property? This is crazy inaccurate. Multi-dwelling properties have property managers paid to look after the properties regardless of who owns it. While on the average, foreign investment may not seem to contribute to property prices, this is not the case when looking a the local sectors of the big two - Toronto and Vancouver. There was a case in Vancouver where a property with a shack sold for over $1MM. This is not because the house price was unrealistic, but because of the property location and perceived property value. This is a direct result of foreign investment in houses in the Vancouver area resulting in a lack of properties. Many of these foreign owned single family investment properties remain empty most of the year. Another big issue in many Canadian municipalities is the lack of building code enforcement. The laws are in place but not always enforced.

TLDR the US immigration system works overwhelmingly in the American's interest. The Canadian one, not so much, as it does not put Canadian workers as first priority with the lack of a PERM labour certificate system.

This is so one-sided. Please go and talk to immigrants who have successfully made Canada home. \n\nPlease go and talk to immigrants who have successfully settled in canada. \n\nI immigrated to canada 20 years ago, and i have never regretted my choice.\n\nAre your immigrant children's facing discrimination ? \n\nThe canadian culture is different. If you come to canada, learn to adapt to different communities far from yours and enjoy the rich cultural blend we offer here in canada.

I am Canadian and from the Atlantic province Newfoundland and they don’t care here and they make a lot dumb laws like not to far they made a speed bump in a road when there is no need for one but near a school where there is almost 200 people next to busy mall and road and this can make a problem people can DIE but they don’t care they just make dumb chooses like that speed bump like I have said before

Our biggest problem is the amount of foreign investment and the sheer amount of immigration year over year. \n\nThere is some housing available (owned by landlords who own entire complexes) however either the prices are jacked way up or they are converted to a BNB unit which turns canadian home buyers away. \n\nWe do not have the infrastructure to support 500,000 new immigrants with government and native regulations stiffling the means to expand to support the influx of newcomers. Even then, most of the immigrants are tradesmen coming to a tech rich country.\n\nAlso our government is more corrupt than one would think with most of the larger corporations being government owned or partnered leading to a monopoly in many industries.

Canadian territory is protected by the USA. Canadian skies are protected by NORAD which his in full control of the USA, Canada is there more so to support detection and assist, but USA is the force of NORAD. So if one country is protected by another so openly, there is no real sovereignty. Canada is like a subsidiary of the USA.

I’m pretty sure the problem with Canadian housing prices is we allow too many foreign investors to buy houses without living in them or often even renting them. This leads to it being extremely difficult for everyone to find homes despite the fact that we have many vacant properties. Honestly we need to just outright ban people from but houses that no one lives in.

Tyler, I agree that you may be too desensitized to the gun violence in your country. I grew up in Canada in the culture where we, as children, were not allowed to play with toy guns as it represented unacceptable violence. I'm 61 years old and have never held a gun nor seen one outside of in the holster of a police officer. Guns with their associated violence is shocking to us. It's a cultural thing and we like it that way. It's really too bad we Canadians have been so easily exposed to the shocking violence of US TV shows. No strategic seeking of the 'right' place to live in the US is going to change the shock effect the gun violence has on our being. It's very scary and we are not as easily sensitized to it.

Its a golden oportunity for canadians. Rent ur home to these students. You can fit a 100 in one room and charge each one money. Use the opportunity get rich.

This is what happens when you think you are being a world leader by letting any Tom Dick Harry Bloke move to your country as though you are selling them infinite pancakes. \n\nIt's a good thing other countries like Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand have made immigration harder and more specific-needs driven as opposed to a revolving door. One day, Canada will be overrun with migrants from developing countries and naturally, that will pull them down with it. I think this video is right on all topics but in Quebec the government does not allow any religious symbols if you work for the public sector. Canada's medical system is a joke and not a funny one. I have been without a doctor for 6 years now. \nI work in the high rise sector and what she said about the shoe box size homes is completely accurate. I am disgusted with the pathetic size of the average condo unit, now 493 sq feet. So I’m going to echo a lot of the other comments here regarding gun violence. The number ONE cause of death to children is gun violence. Not illness,not car accidents, not poverty or abuse…GUNS. \nBut here is what I found so strange. I’ve never walked into a place of business in Canada that was so clearly diverse. I went into a ladies clothing store and everyone stopped and looked at me like “what are you doing here” I’m white and everyone else was black. And I was like “ what is going on” I thought, is this a thing? My friend had the same experience. He walked into a barber shop, he’s white and all the men were black. He didn’t get it either. In both cases we were treated very well and when they realized we were Canadian we all understood the situation. Because in Canada that just wouldn’t happen. I wouldn’t want to live in a country where even businesses are segregated. That’s just a sad situation.

As a Canadian born with immigrant parents, nearly everytime I ask one of my international student friends why they came to Canada instead of the USA, they tell me it's because its way easier to get into Canada ?

As a Canadian I would moove to the States only to escape winter, probably somewhere in Florida, Texas or Cali. But honestly daily mass shooting occurances scare me away. I am a Canadian and lived in the US from 1980-1992. I was a teenager and I enjoyed all the places I lived there. Mass shootings were not yet common though we did have a disgruntled employee with a gun on campus during my time in college. No one was actually shot.(This was in a very small town.) I did not get sick in the US. I have lived in Canada since then and enjoy it here too. I enjoy not having poisonous animals in the area where I live. I don't like the winters, and every winter I wish we could re-draw the border and make it go north and south! I have used the medical system up here and have been very thankful for it. The past couple of years with covid I have been especially glad to be in Canada because I preferred our response to the situation over that of the US. Most of the people in my workplace were not happy about it though and I believe 2 or 3 families actually moved to the US once the border re-opened. They like the feeling of having less governmental control in the US.
