Mam, people look at you differently, cos you are dressed differently. Apart from that, how they behave around you, depends on how your group sets as example. Group would mean your identity that is visible to people. In naqab, the first identity that is visible to people is Islam. While you can't control what other people around the world following Islam do. What you can do and encourage other Muslims around you to do is to set examples of kindness. Reaching out to people and helping people. Not just Muslims. And shun those people openly who speak radical Islam. Then you will notice, how people change the way they look at you.

Different cultures have different tendencies and behaviours. If you see a certain behaviour more than once among the same culture / group, you will naturally start categorizing. Most people think it's a skin colour (which very commonly is just an attribute of a certain culture or group), but in reality, it's hard to tell people not to stereotype and just simply ignore what you observe.

If you are a store owner and if for instance five out of ten shop lifters you caught in the past were a person of certain race; isn’t it only natural to be more wary of the group that had the highest ratio of shop lifters? This is not bc of racism but rather due to your experience.

Please make a distinction between racism and profiling. \n\nEveryone gets profile, based on the group they are associated with. Yes, black get profile as shoplifters but they are also profile as good athletes. Chinese get profile as math wiz but Chinese are also profile as bad drivers. Why? Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

They called in National Guard troops to enforce school integration. They outlawed freedom of association. Over the protests of parents, they put white children on buses and sent them to African schools and vice versa.\n\nThey tried with money, special programs, relaxed standards, and endless hand-wringing to close the “achievement gap.” To keep white backlash in check they began punishing public and even private statements on race.\n\nThey hung up Orwellian public banners that commanded whites to “Celebrate Diversity!” and “Say No To Racism.”\n\nNothing was off limits if it might salvage the experiment.\nSome thought that the Talented Tenth would lead the way for African people. A group of elite, educated Africans would knock down doors of opportunity and show the world what Africans were capable of. There is a Talented Tenth. They are the African Americans who have become entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors and scientists. But ten percent is not enough. For the experiment to work, the ten percent has to be followed by a critical mass of people who can hold middle-class jobs and promote social stability. That is what is missing.\n\nThrough the years, too many African people continue to show an inability to function and prosper in a culture unsuited to them.\n\nDetroit is bankrupt, the south side of Chicago is a war zone, and majority-black cities all over America are beset by degeneracy and violence. And Africans rarely take responsibility for their failures. Instead, they lash out in anger and resentment. Across the generations and across the country, as we have seen in Detroit, Watts, Newark, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, and now Ferguson, rioting and looting are just one racial incident away.\n\nThe white elite would tell us that this doesn’t mean the experiment has failed. We just have to try harder. We need more money, more time, more understanding, more programs, more opportunities. But nothing changes no matter how much money is spent, no matter how many laws are passed, no matter how many African geniuses are portrayed on TV, and no matter who is president.\n\nSome argue it’s a problem of “culture,” as if culture creates people’s behavior instead of the other way around. No wonder, the non-whites stick together in tight groups with their respective languages and having strong connections for business, staying and other stuff. When there is huge discrimination, they need to resort to this behavior (apart from the natural behavior of staying together with known or familiar people). I think what happens is people get grouped together from someone elses behaviour. I remember in Toronto in the 70's a guy from India or Pakistan planted a garden in a room of his apartment. The tenant below called the landlord to say there was a leak upstairs and his unit was being flooded. People judged all people of his ethnic background to this man's standard. You think that landlord wants to take another chance.

Toleration Act 1689 Unitarians were not treated as English citizens, like foreigners in their own country (no right to work, school etc), they were an oppressed group. The history of early Christianity is the history of the suppression of true Christians. Their victory was realized only with the advent of Islam.The Unitarian Christians became the first British Muslims.

Moving to Vancouver was a great experience tbh, I'm of nigerian heritage but was born in Finchley, North London...\nCanadians are friendly and extremely welcoming ( Coming from the UK i found this so off-putting ) lol. Ironically its non-white Canadians i had funny experiences with.... from dating to renting its weird\n\n\nAsians under 27 always asking some crazy questions ( Are you an NBA player ) lol it's cute at first but after a while when little koreans walk up to me talking about ( You look like will smith ) it makes you think... Well, black and brown people in America and brown Muslims in Europe are heavily overrepresented in crime, especially violent and property ones, per capita. It is just a fact. Yes I ran into racial profiling when I wanted to ask why CBC is biased and won't report fairly. Being white and male, I was told that my opinion is invalid, and in spite of the taxes I pay for their wages, I don't have any say. Should look at job discrimination. Do white have the same job opportunities as other groups? Also is there a gender difference?

This can feel compelling however there is clear bias. Every store will have its own profile of who steals and it will vary from store to store. There are facts about crime as far as identifying what groups of people are committing what crimes. You can't just discard that information because you don't like it. Obviously blatant racism is wrong but not everything is defined by race.
