Canadian here. I’ll never forget visiting Disneyworld and hearing the people sitting across from me complain they weren’t allowed to bring their guns into the park. They didn’t get why it was an issue. It was horrifying and mind blowing. It’s that part of America gun culture that makes me very sure I’d never move there. I know it’s not all Americans, but knowing an American family is out there annoyed they can’t bring weapons into a family theme park is enough.

From Montreal here, I,ve been to Florida on five consecutive winters, before Covid, stayed in Pompano (Deerfield area), on day time, I never felt unsafe, but, I was told to never wander outside the resort for an evening walk, sometimes, in the night, we,d hear gunshots popping . This fact itself gives you something to think about. This whole gun violence situation is keeping people from enjoying Life like we should, .I was there (10 minutes away from( when parkland school shooting took place, enough to reinforce our feeling of Insecurity. No offence to Tyler, but the number of school shootings I've seen covered in the news from small towns in the US is extensive. I've seen countless small communities in the US rocked by mass killings, usually taking place at schools where children are the main targets. And every time I see one of these stories, there's always at least one distraught parent explaining how this type of thing never happens in their community and how they never thought it would happen to them. I find it interesting that Canadians are generally more informed and aware of the prevalence of gun violence in the US compared to actual Americans. School and mass shootings happen so frequently in the US, that I no longer even look into the stories. I've become completely desensitized to them and unsurprised whenever I hear about the most recent school shooting. My perception is that nowhere is safe if the US, even if you think you live in a small, quiet, safe community.

I appreciate that you are open to hearing these comments- as hard as that might be. Canadians do love our US next door neighbours- most of the US is lovely, most people are good, yes good opportunities exist there. BUT, we have that here in Canada too. So the tipping points about female bodily autonomy, never really worrying about our children’s school safety, EVERYONE being able to get good healthcare (no insurance required), and the more inclusive attitude to people of different sexual orientation/cultures/race makes this country the better option, in my opinion.

I listen to a lot of American radio and media and I hear frequently a lot of Americans talking about how this day and age how sad it is that they have to worry about their kids going to school. I have found that the vast majority of Americans to be kind, generous people but the only reason that I would move to the US would be for a career opportunity not found in Canada (entertainment, athletics, certain medical professions come to mind). Otherwise the overall standard of living and political climate in Canada is much more amenable to having a happy life. My son recently moved to the US as a professional athlete. It will be interesting to hear what his perspective is over time.

The one thing I found interesting was you kept talking about safe spots in your country where you don't have to worrie about gun violence and school shooting. Where are they? I live in Canada near the boarder and everyday we hear about this shooting or this one. Seems to be happening more is small and medium size towns then major city's. I saw an interesting stat in feb At the time there where 3080 people kill so far that year by shooting. Only a month in and more people had died from shootings then in 9/11.

No, I wouldn’t. I just moved from Vancouver to London, uk. Lots of people asked why I didn’t move to New York. Main reason is health care. I’m a self employed hairstylist and no one is providing health care for me. Second is gun violence in general, mass shootings are a big issue, just because it hasn’t happened in your small city, doesn’t mean it won’t. Mass shootings are just the most extreme version of gun violence. I don’t want the people walking down the street next to me to possibly be carrying a gun on them. That is truly terrifying to me. Third is that politics are so extreme and so prevalent. Lastly the fact that women’s rights are being taken away. I absolutely cannot support a country with very little benefits and aid for those who cannot afford to have a child, that then makes them have a child. That’s the briefest way I can explain my feelings, I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it at that. \n\nThe only benefit I see in moving to the us from Canada is for certain opportunities, and those come in big cities, so there’s absolutely no point in moving to then live in a small city. \n\nI appreciate that you’re being introspective as you go through the video. Unfortunately gun violence is a massive one for many Canadians, even when they travel to the us. Now that I’m in London, I hear a lot of the same sentiments being mirrored by the Brits. No one wants to lose their health and safety just to move to the us. You are hearing about the school shooting as a concern a lot because it is a very real concern to everyone outside of the US. Americans like their guns far more than they appear to care about children. Your gun problem is a HUGE problem that many of you don't see as an issue. You're desensitized to how big of a problem it is.

In Canada, we report a lot of American news as well. All the time we hear about mass shootings happening in the United States.

I’ve lived in both countries in small towns and big cities Hell No Thanks and I would have great insurance. I remember in preschool having to do active shooter drills in the US nope. If you look at stats on gun violence and mass shootings it’s crazy. The US leads by an astronomical amount. Tyler says the US has more access to guns and although I have no idea where to get a gun I think people could get one pretty easily but we don’t need them. I can walk in the dark and not fear for my safety and Canada has only had 3 mass shootings in its whole history. Of course medical, dental, education, women’s rights, maternity and paternity leave, unemployment, help when Covid lockdown happened, clean free water in homes, housing, … on and on. America the “free” is antiquated and no longer true. Education has slid to 30 something in world rankings and Canada is in the top 3. Cost of education, daycare, child benefits ect. I could write paragraphs. Also it’s hilarious when you hear American say oh we’ll just moved to Canada like they can just drive here and settle down?!?there’s a border and you can’t illegally just move here and get a job. Canadians hear all the scary or big news about the USA. We worry about your guns and school shootings. But we really wanna go to the United States' parks, beaches, and events. i’m canadian and i would never move to the states, my dad often says he won’t even visit again. the school shooting concern? maybe it’s just our news media but that’s literally the only time we hear of elementary schools at all in the states, and it often happens in places we’ve never heard of before, aka small town usa, so: it can literally happen anywhere in the states to me. for more gun violence here’s a story, i recently had a coworker go down the west coast usa with their family and almost immediately walk into a mall shooting, it really happens so much down there that it didn’t even make the news up here. i work in a mall and i’m never afraid for my life. i’m not being naive, we have guns here, and i work next to a passport photo counter and i see how many people in my town apply for PAL (possession and acquisition license) and it’s more than i would think and still i feel safe

I know Americans are very patriotic and therefore usually do not want to hear anything negative about their country, so I'm surprised you published this. Don't get us wrong, we think USA is a great place to travel to, it's just not considered a very livable place.

From your comments, i hear that you feel safe because your health insurance is purchased through your employer. How safe is your health care if you loose your job? In Canada, we still get health care. Our heath care is covered through our taxes. Like road upkeep, schools etc.. Even our ambulace care cost will be covered, if you can not afford it. But, what happens when you reach retirement? Is your health care free? I understand people in the US work way passed retirement age just to have health care. So unfair.

There are so many scary things about the US right now. Drugs, crime, mass murders, accessibility to healthcare, terrorism, racial hate crimes, etc. The list is quite long. Not everyone is affected by all of these things (knock on wood). One thing that is disgusting is politics. It is not dangerous per se as the aforementioned so it is probably not fair to say it as a justification against moving to the US. However, it is very commonplace in the US, and it is very annoying. Politics is extremely toxic, aggressive, and divisive right now. One wrong comment out of your mouth in public, and people will be ready to fight you. Or on the flip side, you hear one wrong comment in public, it is best to bite your tongue. \n\nPolitics in the US was not always intolerable. It has always been a strong subject of discussion since forever. However, it became disgusting and overly obnoxious ever since Trump came into the scene. I think his elitist personality gave his supporters a green light to be more vocal about their own divisiveness. Combine that with social media, and you have a recipe for disaster... so much hate, divisiveness, and willingness to not bite one's tongue right now in the States. I have spina bifida and I’ve had 20+ surgeries. I’m not leaving a country that kept me out of bankruptcy and death and kept me from getting shot. I’m white, but I’m not playing Russian Roulette with my life. I just in the last few years discovered cannabis as relief for my chronic pain. I know there are some places where it’s legal, but it isn’t worth the risk for me. I remember visiting LA when I was 12 and hearing about how cool and hip Beverly Hills was. When I got there, it looked worse than the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, which is one of the poorest, most crime filled places in Canada. It was scary. That’s not the kind of “freedom” I’m looking for. You can’t exercise any freedom when you’re 6 feet under.
