I'm Canadian and worked in Dertoit for almost 10 years, I crossed the border daily working for GM. I've also done work in Louisiana, Indiana and all around Michigan. \nAmerica has some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's a beautiful country and has a ton to offer anyone with an ounce of drive. The variety you have in your economy is amazing, we don't have a lot of choice when we buy stuff, you guys have so much more to choose from, take restaurants for example, I've never seen so many chain restaurants in one place, we have a handful of them. \nFrom what I've seen, there's also a lot of poverty, crime and violence, but that's literally everywhere right now, even here in Canada, we don't prosecute violent crime anymore. The gun issue is probably the biggest problem...I always felt extremely vulnerable out in public, especially driving, because I assumed everyone had a gun on them, I seen so many random guns on people, it just blew my mind. I always had to keep in mind when I was driving not to road-rage...That's how you get shot. The health care industry in America is nothing but a business model designed to bankrupt people. Our system isn't great at all...nothing to boast about. If you have to visit the ER at any hospital, you'd better bring food and water, you'll be there at least 8 hours before you're even seen by a doctor. Our health care is free yes, but we're taxed to death here because of it. I do indeed wish we had a 2-teir health care system, I want the option to pay to get seen soonest. America and Canada have free(ish) speech. We're both being ruled by leftist loonies, but that's all changing in our next respective election cycles. Biden and Trudeau will be shown the door and we can hopefully get back to healthy debate and more conversation in society...Instead of automatically dismissing each other, vitriolic badgering one another and hating each other. We had unity for a brief time, we all saw it, after 9/11 happened. We put our petty crap aside and saw each other as brothers and sisters. That didn't last very long and we've been in a constant state of crisis ever since. The media has driven a huge nail right through society, and takes a blow at every single issue we face, making it Left vs Right...\nIt's unfortunate to say, but it's going to take something truly devastating, possibly on a biblical scale, for us to come together again.

Maybe because other people don't want to immigrate to Canada but seems like 80% of immigrants in the past decade have been from India. \n\nSeems like most immigrants continue to live like they back home and as a whole it has become a much dirtier place, especially in Southern Ontario some times hard to tell which country you are actually living in.

Canada has another problem that you forgot to cover. Canada isn't an entrepreneurial nation like America. Canadians are less risk taking compared to Americans which means you can have an influx of immigrants but less jobs for them therefore they will leave back to their own countries again. Most of the top employers of engineers in Canada are foreign companies, not local. Salaries in America are high due to the immense labor competition for engineers as there are more startups and entrepreneurial people. \n\nThen in Canada they require certain Canadian certifications especially for doctors which isn't as bad as in the US. So you have some engineers or doctors that end up working low paid jobs since they would have to repeat school in Canada from an accredited Canadian university. I don't see this as a problem for the US at all because these immigrants aren't going to create new companies and are merely looking for a job. Canadians not being as entrepreneurial and not starting companies to compete for the talents of these professionals will just result in these professionals working out of the Canadian offices of American and Asian tech companies.\n\nOverall not a win or loss for America. Even if these guys end up working in the Canadian division of American companies, American companies will still have the benefit of their talent which is a win at a lower cost for the US companies.

Ok but immigration is disgusting. Especially the ones that come to canada.

I used to love visiting the States, especially Vermont. The political climate seems so extreme now that I have no interest in even visiting.

Just keep in mind that averege COL is much higher in canada, especially housing. And lower wages on average.

I have a different perspective… as I’ve lived in Canada since I was 2 years old (same with my wife). I’m in my early 40s and my wife is in her late 30s… the other thing is… we are of Sri Lankan decent… Tamils… BTW, I didn’t understand a thing from this interview… I’m going by what is said in the comment section.\nBut, hear me out… before you say… “Oh no… this guy has nothing in common…”\nJust so you know… I was born in Germany in 1980… my wife was born in Sri Lanka in 1985.\nWhat I noticed is all my uncles, grandparents would rave about the fact that if the war in Sri Lanka was over they would go back and live there… well… truth be told it’s been over for a while… and they go visit… but they built a new life here in Canada… and they’ve come accustomed to the luxury lifestyle here. They go back and realize that it’s not the same as it was when they were growing up… things changed… people don’t recognize them or pretend to recognize them only to take advantage of them because they know they are from Canada.\nThere is also the factor of advancement… both Sri Lanka and India is really catching up especially from the time the internet and the smartphone came along… nobody would believe… but the difference between Canada and Sri Lanka or even India in the early 90s… jeez… night and day… now it’s more equal especially in the major cities… but before… malls and escalators… people would literally ask what is that??? Elevators didn’t even have doors we had to manually close it lol…\nAnyway… that’s my point of view…\nAlso… way safer in Canada than India… how many rape cases do you hear about in Canada vs India???

Tyler, stop glossing over the U.S.'s horrid gun culture and especially the school and mass shootings.\n\nThe bizarre obsession with guns is the U.S.'s Achilles heel. The gun issue is a totally relevant and significant deterrent to moving to and even just visiting the U.S.\n\nI'm so glad I live in Canada! It's not perfect but it's a strong, beautiful country. What you think is a cheap living in the USA take an entirely different tone when you consider the vast costs of utilities and other necessities like health insurance. Canadians pay more but they get more back. Americans pay less but their get pretty much nothing from the state in terms of protection. And need we get into the healthcare debate especially for families and children?

i liked the ''by country quota system'' all countries should do that especially on indians its not fair that they make at least 1/4 of the annual intake of immigrants in canada and australia just because there are 1.4 billion of them ..they should accept more people from other countries in africa , latin america...and less from india to balance things

I can fully believe that 14% number. In the past especially 4-6 years ago republicans which are the most vocal has been hating immigrants for no reason and blaming them for everything. Who wants to move the us with all this hate plus the issue with healthcare.

This is a good presentation and accurate but it does not elaborate enough on the processes of why Canada's failures are happening except for the part about the brain drain. The brain drain is when the best of Canada's talent leaves Canada for the USA. The USA GDP benefits and Canada stagnates. This drain has been going since at least the 1950s. This is why Canada has no heyday, no peak, no golden age. It's in part a fault of its government but it is especially a fault of its society. Canada was mediocre before mediocre was cool. Canada is not dynamic: it is anti-dynamic. Change in Canada is always enforced by outside forces, by necessity. Whereas the USA loves heroes; Canada loathes them. Ambitious people, visionaries, entrepreneurs tend to draw more from resources and Canadians are afraid of risk. Various analyses have shown that Canada has willfully, deliberately, perniciously decapitated of its own economic future.

Can thia be true about Canada, especially theor health system?\n\nWith the negative comments i have read here this be true about Canada everyone os craving for?

I'm American. The half a point for sleeping with shoes on I don't think is accurate. The only exception to that I can think of is if someone passed out drunk. I did agree with some of their points especially around education. Having a lawyer being an Uber driver should be looked at as a problem though unless it's purely their choice. I work about 70 to 80 hours a week and took three days vacation last year which is no life at all. Not feeling like I can afford to educate myself here gives no end in sight and if i save a dollar today it's worth 50 cents in ten years so retirement is also very hard here in the states.

This is sad all around, especially that these poor people are crying and so desperate to get in. It's for a reason. Venezuela is awful.

As an American Catholic. I really ache living in these depressing suburbs. I don't know what fool thinks that living alone in a big house with a lot of land alone without either a religious community or large family with a lot of kids; is a 'good' idea. It's really lonely and boring, especially if you live with your folks without a car.

This is the outcome of flights getting cheap. If you want profit, you must manage these situations . Its normal. Doesn't it happen in pubs and bars no matter how much posh it may be? But they still manage to do their businesses. This kind of situation is new for airliners. Maybe some strict laws along with prison punishment and not fines should come on an immediate basis to control the actions of culprits in order to curb such unpleasant situations for future instances especially when our government is providing enormous benefits for travellers across India.

Especially the Catholics, and we saw how you used to kill witches and burn people inside churches contrary to your faith, and we did not also say that the Bible, for example, invites you to do so, even though the Bible did and commanded extermination.

These two are Canadians so they are showing you the flowers garden of Canada and the sewage in US. Nobody should consider this as their immigration advice. You need to find an immigration lawyer and do your own research before making any serious decisions. Canada’s tax and unemployment rates are much higher than in the US. It is also freaking cold in general and they have extremely long winter which means you will be locked inside your house for the majority of the year especially if you are a senior citizen.

Never Ever. I'm aghast at how surprised you are about the people worried about shooting. You keep saying just be strategic where you live. The way things are going with the shootings and how many a day. It will happen in your area to people you know. I'm so shocked how desensitized you are. Wow!! Here even if you don't agree or have opinions about religion LBGTQ+ we tend to mind our own business. I'm a believer if people are kind and not hurting people why should someone care what someone else is doing. Some information ismisleading. Best to check with people who actually live in Canada. Also, spend enough time in any of these places yourself to form your own opinion, especially if you might be considering the possibility of living there. Being a visitor is not the same as being a resident.

I think the only reason I would consider moving to the states is because of this shopping. Especially the grocery shopping. We simply don't have the same breadth and depth of choices to make. But I can live without them! ?

Uvalde has a population of 15,217. Newton (Sandy Hook) has. 27,173. Columbine has 25,229. Being in a small city is no guarantee a school shooting won't happen. Also keep in mind that your experience of living in a small town might be very different than anyone who isn't a young healthy white males- especially anyone who is a visible minority.

Podcast very interesting conveying true picture. I am 71 and had canada citizenship in 1988. I stayed there for 15 days after getting PR but returned . Although later i hv been to canada and UK several times as long term visitor. I hv so many other reservations about these two countries especially related to its future after 20 yrs because of their liberal policies on refugees and asylum seekers. Their economy is going down and down. In comparison Australia seems to be a younger country with good climate round the year with good prospects

You are absolutely right Tyler Bucket. You really really live in a bubble. I strongly suggest you pop your head out of the bubble and look around you. You say if you've in a small place your children are safe in school. Really?? Do you think the people living in Uvalde (population 15,000) feel safe after 19 children and 2 staff were slaughtered? You do not believe mass shootings are that bad or maybe as an American you are just used to it...Wake up!...300 mass shootings so far this year. You say that most people are 'ok' with health care as Americans are insured through their work Really? What about the 30 000,000 Americans with no health care and the 112,000,000 who \nare struggling pay for health care.  \nYou elected a psychopath for President and he is now running for President again after being indicted twice and is facing at least 2 more. 59:35 I personally think this is just personal story where a lot of circumstances lead to this situation and things might be like this earlier but now post pandemic and especially in 2023 things are so much better, nothing comparable to canada in terms or ease of PR but if one follows right pathway of what the govt. is looking for PR is super easy. A friend of mine age 20 being a Nurse got PR right after graduating with 0 work experience in ADELAIDE. They don't need accountants why would they give PR to them? I understand nursing is not for everyone but there are more such occupations too.

When I was young, late 50's early 60's, I was jealous of people living in the US. We'd go to my Dad's professional conferences in various areas and everyone seemed to drive such expensive cars and live in such big houses. Now I know that's just window dressing. You have to look at what's underneath. I didnt see the poverty and the racism. Canada unfortunately has people who would like to take Canada down the same road as the US. We have good medical care, a social net, respect human and reproductive rights, attempt to keep religion out of politics, gun control (a pro hunter here!) , fair school funding (the whole province, not just district), and the list could go on. Is it perfect? No but its a whole lot better than the US. We Canucks just need to keep fighting for improvements and it isnt an American model for most of them. \nWe had always planned to take holidays and see various parts of the US. No more. The lack of gun laws is really scary, especially when combined with hate. We're not timid travellers. \n\nMove there... maybe California .

I lived in New York City for 3 years and am from Quebec city. I would say New York is its own thing but I would not want to go back and live there or anywhere in the US. Especially with the rising of censorship, women's right violation, open racism against immigrants, gun culture, LGBTQ having a nightmare to deal with etc. And I'm a strait white heterosexual male who grew up privileged.

I bought a house in Florida in 2009 with the intention to move into it 15 years later when I retire. I sold it in 2021. You could not pay me to live in the U.S. now, especially not Florida.

There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. If i showed up at 53 with a handfull of pre-existing conditions, I would be in bad shape.\n\nYour record on lgbtq+ and a woman's right to bodily autonomy is back slipping to the 1950's. Some politcians (not sure what level, state or federal) are looking to even reverse the position on interracial marriages for pete sake.\n\nI think if Voter appathy is allowed to continue, the vocal minority of people who want this will get their way despite the fact that the polls suggest the majority of americans hate what is happening

It is quite irritating when someone constantly kicks ur seat from behind knowingly or unknowingly, especially in movie theatres and flights...talking to the cabin crew is the right way to solve this

My parents were snowbirds for decades. At the end of their stay, they owned a small place in Safford, AZ. I spent all my vacations wherever they were, Texas, other parts of Arizona. I loved exploring the US with them - Dodge City, KS, Tombstone, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Gila Cliff Dwellings, to name just a few. Multiple National Parks over their 30 years of winter stays. \n\nThe US is beautiful and steeped in history. We met some really nice people, and even loved a few of them (but not in a weird way).\n\nMy parents sold their place just before Trump became president (on purpose), and none of us have been back since.\n\nDon’t get me wrong, we have our share of ignorant and uneducated people, but most of ours don’t have guns. \n\nAnyways, I digress. Never, not once did we ever consider becoming American Citizens. Especially since Trump (OMG).\n\nWe love our country, even though it’s not perfect. We love our health care, such as it is currently.\n\nIn memory of Gene of Tory, AZ, a family friend, who was like a brother to all of us who knew him, who died too young because he refused to give up his children’s small inheritance to your healthcare system. \n\nEven though there is darkness, there is still greatness in your country. I considered Europe several times (went for exchanges in England and Russia a decade ago). Moving to US… for myself, I can’t see a good reason. Especially now… \npeople who are interested in the US are people who have career ambitions or want to make more money (like in Universities, finance, technology…). There is a second category of people, that I don’t think they use Reddit ;) Retired people over a certain age, they go live in Florida half the year and some decide to stay. There are also a small number of neoconservatives who think we live under a liberal dictature (yes, I’m looking at you Alberta), might be more interested, as well as our evangelicals too, since they want to insist on imposing their religion on everyone else. \nSo, mostly : climate for elders, ambitions (career or financial) for youth, ideology for some others. Maybe love too !

I have always seen women especially young women being so annoying with their legs. raising and abutting on the seat not allowing the frint seat to recline nd the irritating leg movements.... you tell them politely they create a scene like as if their ugliest soul was sexually harassed. The father here had no maturity.... And the lady needs to be kicked out of flight for screaming in the flight like a psycho... period

I've always wanted to live in the US, so many happy vacations there as a child and teen. Sadly now due to the health care situation, there's no way I could. If someone makes a lot of money and can afford private insurance and the drugs they need, lucky for them. Especially as a diabetic, the price of insulin is around 5 x in the US what it is here. I don't earn enough to afford the drugs I need if I lived in the US, add in every three month blood work, dr visits, for a self employed person, it's just not doable on what I earn. \n\nAn American I talk to said one of his co workers was being laid off and the co worker was a diabetic and he didn't know what he was going to do without the health insurance the company provided him. It's insane health insurance is tied to employment in the US. people that are self employed would have huge private insurance bills, and people that get laid off or are fired, they could be taking thousands of dollars of drugs a month and all of a sudden it's gone with the job. My mom wouldn't even let us go to the US for a weekend without getting out of the country medical insurance coverage.

Excellent interview. Both respected ladies shared views honestly. The main difference is a bit generation difference. If we compare current economy and opportunities. Sorry to say the biggest problems of India are1- Corruption 2-Pollution3- ethical government 4 - EverywhereHindu-Muslim 5- Very limited infrastructure ( Roads, Power etc) 6- severe infection ( compared to earnings) 7- Level of Accidents and drunk drivers 8- very few opportunities matching skills 9- Very poor quality of education and unprofessional health 10- honesty is a real issue 11- Fake Godi media +++++\nI don’t mean India is a bad country. It’s one of the best country on earth. The issue is the governance especially current government is a biggest issue. Some Canadians have moved to US for acting roles/musicians, etc. Also, many travel to the US to live there in the Winter (especially older people) who are financially stable.

Actually... Children are getting shot on a daily basis in the US. Guns are now the number one cause of death of children in the US. There are, on average, two or more mass shootings every day.\n\nThe people commenting seem to be overly concerned with school shootings... But the bigger factor is really just overall crime rate, especially violent crime.

Words of experience: The older you get in Canada, the more you appreciate the health system, especially for seniors.

Healthcare in Canada is falling apart, our prime minister is trying to turn us into a dictatorship, cost of living has gone extreme especially buying a house.......Canada is not Canada at the moment, I would wait before moving here yet lol. I would not go to the states however I've considered other places.

I live in Canada. In 1984 I bought a house in Florida as a vacation home. Ten years later I sold it. I bought a house in Costa Rica. Best move ever. Look at what is happenning all over the U.S. and especially Florida. Canada in the summer and Costa Rica for winter vacation. LOVE IT.
