people care less about the topics you have highlighted here. for an example LGBT rights doesn't play a huge role in day to day life of a person who is not identified as one, legalizing weed, how less religious people are etc are not even things that makes up to top 5 priorities. Canada is WAAY more expensive than USA (and most of the developed countries), its infrastructure is way subpar than of USA (or even some developing countries) and lets not even talk about the joke of a healthcare system in Canada. to see a GP people has to stay in the queue for 3 MONTHS!!!! THREE MONTHS!! its pathetic after paying so much taxes and getting a healthcare service thats worse than a third world country! and why do you not talk about the fact insurance plays a huge role here if you want ANY kind of a service without staying for months until your stage 1 cancer grows to a stage 4 :)

Not that many people in the developed world are shopping for an alternative country. So I imagine most Americans and most Canadians will be content with their nation of birth. But as a Canadian, I have to admit I'm a bit scared of the US. The level of violent crime down there is such that _many_ (not all) people feel they need guns for personal security. American prison rates testify to a level of desperation and alienation that is _not_ appealing to me. I don't want to live somewhere where owning a deadly weapon seems like a sensible idea! Also, as a struggling creative/entertainment person, I can't guarantee I'll be consistently earning good money – there are plenty of lean times in my biz. I don't want to be repeatedly worrying about my health coverage disappearing, whenever work dries up. I've never had that type of anxiety in Canada, and I sure appreciate that. Btw, although the Canadian health system is a long way from perfect, I've always managed to get appropriate care, according to my needs, quickly enough, at no cost to myself. And currently, I really like my GP _and_ my specialists!

The UK is pretty much like Canada, now. There is only room for the 5% who are rich (the capitalists & rentiers) and the 35% of people on Benefits (the 35% of population who live off welfare paid for by the State using the hard-working tax payer's money). The honest, hard-working middle-class (about 50 to 60% of society) are absolutely screwed and doomed, because all they can now do is keep working their guts out till they drop dead, and never hope to have a decent life. The culture of state-funded Welfare has now gotten so bad that I now live in a street where some 30% of the people who live off Welfare have been given State funded houses, and those houses which are bigger and better than mine (all paid for using my tax money). And I have slogged my entire life (I am 65 now) to pay off a large mortgage on a house that eventually has lower value than the houses that people on Welfare are given on the same Street! Worse still, now that I am approaching the stage where I might need to go into a Care Home, my house (which I worked for my entire life to attain) will have to be sold off to pay for my Care Home costs. While my neighbours who never worked a single day in their life (and whose life was subsidized using my tax money) will again get free state-funded Care Home facility too! It utterly beggars belief. \n\nWhen state-funded Welfare gets to a point that doing an honest day's work actually penalizes you, because all you are doing is funding the lifestyles of the other half of society who wish to sponge off State Welfare (due to the high taxes the Government is forced to impose on the working middle-class to support the 35% on State benefits), then that society can never prosper, firstly because it removes the motivation to work hard, and secondly because some day the Government will run out of money to continuing funding the lavish lifestyles of people on State Welfare. And that is very much now the state of affairs in countries like Canada, the UK, and much of EU. It is an unsustainable model. \n\nBy contrast, in countries like the US, China, India, etc. there is a much greater correlation between hard work and reward. Choosing to not go to work and sponging off Governmental welfare is simply not an option. And that is precisely why countries like these will continue to prosper in the coming years - because they have some form of Meritocracy. Unfortunately, I think countries like the UK, Canada, and most western EU countries are looking at a downward spiral, and there are no easy solutions, because their Welfare model has already created these huge segments of society which depend on it and will not allow it to be demolished - but the day is fast approaching where they will all soon run out of money to continue funding it (most of these countries are already facing huge Debt-GDP ratios, and there is no conceivable way of them coming out of it).

Its a pity in this 21st century still experiencing racism? Why is it the most civilised people lives like uncivilised? I am so disappointed I thought America and Canada should have lived a free - racism society than any other countries across the globe because black people has made America to be where it is today, it is very ironic we black people in Africa we live in harmony with every race you can mentioned it whether Indians, Chinese, white people, etc and nobody complains that they are being discriminated here simply because of the colour of their skin. we simply dont care as long as you are a human being.

In Ontario Canada the healthcare industry is heavily marred in black racism! My sister was a Director of Care at 3 different long term care facilities over the last 9 years. The racism she felt was so bad that the WS are willing to destroy the reputation of the long term care facility and their own careers just do they could oppress my sister. My sister beat them all as she left the long term care and is now a pediatric consultant while the last place she left is now in chaos. Every long term care job she had the WS were getting her to do all of their work to a point where they did not know how to recover when my sister eventually left. Every long term care facility paid the heavy price when my sister walked out. I could make a video on this issue it’s so wicked the racism. At least my sister beat them all she is so smart. ??

I live in Canutillo, Texas, Suburb of El Paso. Migrants cross illegally on a daily basis. Are we going to have enough food and shelter for all of these people. Probably not! This is unfair for our homeless population. What about our veterans that have actually fought to defend this country? If we can't take care of our own problems, how can we take care of another countries problems. Who is vetting these people. No one. Canada only allows people who have a college degree. Now America and Canada can't even afford to house and take care of their own citizens, so all these illegals coming in and flooding the housing markets, the social services benefits and criminals from illegal immigrants flooding our streets with cartel drugs, prostitution, extortion, over populated criminal justice system, and they aren't even legal or gone threw point of entry at the border. Oh my goodness...Canada seems to have run out of red carpets...Canada has problems. It has racism. It has sexism, yet with only high school four of my sisters became bank management and executives...and we have a blue-collar mixed-race heritage. But despite that Canada has a tiny tiny economy compared to its immediate neighbour and still delivers an impressively comparable lifestyle...plus a health care system that struggles to find a way to be universal in our post-pandemic world...that actually saved my American-immigrant husband's life. If you can understand the sheer competitiveness of trying to get a job in this marketplace then you might understand that despite Canada's best efforts it's not the land of Oz. If other countries are better sorted and have your dream jobs waiting by all means have that good life where you can. If you want to work towards building a future in a relatively safe and free nation...and that will mean taking part in ironing out age old problems...maybe Canada is for you.

Hopefully this will deter immigrants from using usa as an interim stop to get to canada. At least our banks in Australia don’t go broke like in US . Since the Covid lock downs a lot of people are homeless all around the world . I live in Sydney and I could not care less if we are isolated . We still can visit New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and South East Asia . I rather live in Australia than overseas because my relatives in the UK , and Cyprus didn’t care to spend time with me when I visited there . Their attitudes are not laid back . Anyway there are international students who find work here in Australia . We have heaps of lovely places in Australia to visit . There are amazing places in Western Australia and the rest of Australia to see . I agree Canada is amazing as I have been there but it doesn’t mean Australia is a dump like you are saying . I am sorry that you had a bad experience here but it doesn’t mean Australia is a horrible country to live in . There is beauty in our deserts thank you .

I’m 20 and I’ve basically given up on home ownership if the status quo stays the same. House prices are unaffordable. Hot shots from up in Toronto have bought up huge amounts of the available housing leaving supply low and there is low availability of rentals due to a high influx of new residents. The “starter house” market has been completely eroded; there is no $100k houses anymore or even $200k, new developments are like 5, 6 or 700k or more and the old houses that used to be cheap are now 3-500k. \n\nI don’t want to leave town for now because I help care for my elderly grandfather, but in a few years I’m going to jump ship and leave either the province or Canada. You have to go where you can afford to live.

The politics of Canada are no longer 'tolerant and liberal'. We are losing our freedoms daily (refer Bill C-11). We are becoming stifled by censorship. We have a spiralling housing crisis. Known murderers are being freed after a few days on bail, leading to a far less safe social environment than we traditionally had. Our skyrocketing inflation and insanely high taxes are crushing our quality of life. The entire situation is deteriorating week to week since there is an active agenda to destroy our economy and society. I should also mention that our health care system is in a state of collapse.

It would be Better if the Drug Industry was Closed, which makes Society, illegally unequal, helpless and more prone to Drug Usage. The Global Capitalist System is Lopsided, and Inside out. Just to keep the Few extremely Wealthy, they Sacrifice Human Rights to a dignified, decent Life. It's not just Canada, this Misery is Worldwide all because of a Few People's Limitless Greed. What you Describe is like just brushing the Dirt under the Carpet, not a real Solution to the Problem. Conditions will Only Get Worse if the Root Cause is not Taken Care Of.

“Canada is perceived as one of the least corrupt countries in the world”. Not by Canadians, especially in the last several years. It’s corruption is becoming all too noticeable for anyone who cares to look.

Canada doesn’t have an economy anymore: it only relies on an outdated 1970s immigration system to keep boosting its population growth by around 1% a year! The immigrants are required to bring in roughly $10k per person which quickly evaporates within the ‘economy’ as most new comers struggle to,find decent jobs in the first 1-2 years of their arrival. So the ponzi scheme continues. Why do new arrivals put up with this? Well especially after Covid, vast majority of new arrivals are from countries where the economic situation is desperate. If you see new immigrants they are dominated (immigrants plus student visas) by one country - a large democratIC country on a large continent - most are effectively desperate economic refugees but the sleepy govt’s in Canada don’t care: let social devices get stretched, no cannot find a decent family doctor in any urban area, rents keep,sky rocketing, yet just let immigrants esp from one former ‘jewel in the crown’ come in unchecked!

Canada also has a leader that cares more about pronouns and issues like that rather than issues that impact the economy

I already knew that Canada had a lot of in common with Australia but this an another thing we have in common. We're not as entrepreneurial and innovative as the US but we have a resources economy and people tend to invest in property (because it's a safe investment).\n\nI would still much rather live in Australia or Canada than the US though. I came to Canada 2months back with a job with an above average salary but already figured I can't stay here for too long as it's not a place to settle down unless you are a factory/construction labour. It's a beautiful beautiful country with so many amazing people. But people who are running this country are not passionate or caring about Canada rather to their capitalist masters. For every problem I hear that it's not clear whose responsibility it is, fed, state or city or district etc. If you love Canada why would it be so difficult to figure that out as it is not a country created 2 years back. And housing prices can't be fixed till a decade at least, as you can't expect to devalue the assets by half suddenly, so you have to wait till the inflation normalizes it.

The healthcare system in Canada is SO BROKEN! In Nova Scotia, hospitals are open during bankers hours and staffed by EMTs on the weekend. During Covid restrictions, the provincial ambulance services were discontinued and people died because they didn't get help in time. It can take up to three years in NS to get a primary care provider.

Who cares if we are less inequal in Canada if we are all poorer?

As an immigrant from Europe who came to the US legally, I'm very appalled that people have such low moral values that even when they're told no, they still come here illegally. I moved here because I like traveling, I come from a former communist country. However my country wasn't always safe, we had to fight for decades to make it safe. None of these immigrants care enough about their countires to make it safe for future generations, instead they leave. Remember, you're not an asylum seeker. An asylum seeker goes to the nearest country that's safer, the US and Canada are usually not that close.

Over 300,000 homeless veterans wander the streets searching for food and shelter currently. Dying at an estimated rate of 22 a day due to self inflicted harm….the system in place to take care of them and provide comprehensive medical care is crippled and broken….every SINGLE ONE of these men and women has a head full of bad memories and experiences from defending their country in war (some missing limbs)….can’t hold a job and have trouble finding a job….NOONE is making substantial and reinforced efforts to care for these brave men and women. Yet, if you cross that border illegally you’re given shelter (free stay at 5star hotels in NYC sound nice)…comprehensive medical care…food stamps and even job placement for some. And in some cases, we’re providing that help to individuals who are simply making a pit stop between Mexico and Canada because it’s better for them there according to some. Frankly, we have enough issues that are swallowing us whole and need to focus on building up and caring for our own citizens and force stop mass migration, strongly enforce deportation as well as employing more case workers to help with legal immigration process. We spend all this money sending to Ukraine and yet here we are, cutting our own throats to save someone else’s hand. I have no issue with legal immigration and asylum but you need to go through the process like those before you. I know this is asking a lot but it IS possibly to make it work

Born and raised Cdn and every point you raise is valid IMO and experience. I love my country however, it is hard to get ahead, we work too much, and cost of living is so expensive. The reason why Canada is wonderful for those who stay is A) Charter of Rights and Freedoms - we are protected by laws and citizens enjoy legal, justice, policing and gvmt services that help protect quality of life. B) it is a safe country primarily and not easy to reach for insurgents, terrorist attacks and political anarchy etc. C) We have so much land and space for people to decide where they want to live - density is not high so you can have space. D) it is a beautiful country with awe inspiring nature. E) we do have one of the best immigrant populations and that is our crown. Being diverse is a blessing so if you are atheist, Christian, Muslim etc doesn't matter - you can enjoy freedom to worship as you wish. And F) Healthcare could improve but, the quality of care is world class and speaking as a breast cancer survivor who's treatment ran $120k (diagnostics, chemo, surgery, radiation, med professionals, rehab and drug therapies) we have access to that care whereas in other countries you may not.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful to anyone who comes to Canada but if you’re coming here legally, you should be arrested and charged but I also got a question. How are you going to take care of yourself food here is expensive rent is expensive utility bills expensive everything here is expensive, so how are you going to support yourself if you’re coming here with no money no resources it doesn’t make sense to me where the rest of us Canadians who live here are already struggling with high taxes. We're polite and nice until we're taken advantage of or treated like an idiot! Kindness is important, but doing what's morally right is more important to me personally! So if that means me speaking up or calling out bs when I see it, I will! I do believe in giving each person their own clean slate. I adjust according to the person! That just means I don't assume anything about a person based on race, the job they have, the car they drive, how they look, the clothes they wear. Those things have no bearing on how I choose friends! It's all about the content of one's character! I do keep to myself most of the time but strive to be kind and polite when I'm around others! But everyone is different. You will run into aholes anywhere you go! Canada is NO EXCEPTION. You have to be careful still about how you move. For example as an indigenous woman I don't go out alone after dark. You can't just trust anyone and leave yourself vulnerable because you never known what someone's intentions are. You can find people that are so unkind. You can also find some of the nicest people in the world here. I imagine the same can be said about any country. Our government certainly doesn't represent us personally. We all have our own personalities and lives! And I don't judge others based on their race religion or their government at home! When I was a kid there was no shortage of people letting me know I'd never amount to anything. So yeah you can find aholes anywhere you go! Please don't leave yourself vulnerable and assume everyone here has good intentions! Especially if you travel alone! We still have a lot of issues you probably never heard of! It's about time we don't have the money, we have a health care shortage. We can't keep letting able body Citizens whether born here or not live off Welfare going back generations. No one's screening the people who have already crossed over then once they get Citizenship they can bring all there relatives here is ridiculous enough is enough.
