As an immigrant born in Mexico and living in Canada (Québec) for the last 32 years I'm certainly going back to Mexico once I retire. Instead, she makes it sounds as though it is Muslims who are the victims, while failing to mention the barbarity unleashed on Oct. 7. This is not leadership. This is not her mandate. Her job is to promote tolerance as enshrined in Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. \n\nNow imagine a scenario in which Muslims did what they ought to have done in the first place: condemned the Hamas attack, sided with the Jewish victims and dissociated themselves from terrorism. What has happened in Canada is actually quite simple. Companies sell products and services. Companies require employees in order to sell those products and services. The difference between what the companies can those products and services for and what they pay the employees is profit. The owners of the companies want to maximize this profit, therefore want to pay employees as little as possible. Scarcity is labour is one of the driving factors behind what employees are paid. One way to decrease scarcity of labour is to bring in massive amounts of immigrants. That is exactly what Canada has been doing for decades. The owners of the companies take profits and invest it in real estate. This makes real estate unaffordable for the employees whose wages have been suppressed. Lower wages also means less money from taxes available for services like health care. We allowed our politicians to be bribed into allowing massive levels of immigration. Stagnant wage growth resulted in lowered consumptive capacity in the economy. This lead to stagnant economic activity and lowered investment into things that would make the Canadian economy more productive. What we have now is unaffordable housing. Lack of jobs. A failing health care system. An educational system where the bar was lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Increased crime and substance abuse resulting from the subsequent hopelessness. Several families living in a single house. People working several low paying jobs just to try to get by. People with full-time jobs that are forced to choose between being homeless or starving to death. The immigrants that are still coming here are sleeping on the sidewalk in front of homeless shelters, or maybe scraping by delivering UberEats.

Many Canadians are leaving Canada, most of them highly skilled. Reasons are the expense of living here is astronomical and we have a totalitarian liberal/ndp government ben ton making the country as miserable as possible to live in. This is a great example of people without pride for their nation. This woman is not Canadian so of course she’s leaving Canada. But the people under the most stress are in the the three western provinces where the economy is more resource based and to some extent the maritimes where the rate of mortgage arrears are above average. Ontario and BC rate of mortgage arrears is the lowest and make up are the largest housing market. Canada has many large international corporations like Nutrien, Barrick Gold, banks, Enbridge, Constellation Software, Shopify, Suncor ... Healthcare is tricky to compare but where Canada mostly falls short as reported by the NIH is dental care and drugs which the NDP want to address. My grandparents and aunt are Canadian. Canada made the same mistake we did in the US. Yes life was good but the wealth was a delicate balance. Why do people still keep coming to Canada? Because it's even worse where they come from. Unfortunately, even countries in Europe are in trouble. Have a look at France and Germany. Germany is in debt and in recession; all Latin EU countries are in debt up to their eyeballs, facing bankruptcy thanks to free spending liberal governments. As for Developing Countries, their GDPs are not enough to deal with their populations reaching working age. Their growth is too slow, so opportunities abroad look attractive. And, if immigrants move onward to the USA, that is the natural flow Canadian immigration has had for decades. The Can. government will need to become heavily involved in creating affordable, high density housing, cut red tape, and make education cheaper if they want to retain migrants.

All your points are valid. I would add that, sadly, many come to Canada to get a citizenship of convenience. Once they have a dual citizenship as Canadian, they go back to the home country and only remember that they are Canadian when they want or need something. As a Canadian, I looked into becoming an auto mechanic. Its going to take a year of school, tuition and then, in your first year, you'll make entry level wage and have to pay $3000 in tools. You might even need a truck to haul your tools around. They keep saying how they need tradespeople in Ontario, but the licensing/ apprentice process takes so long for people to transition into. Every trade is so complicated to get involved in. There is a situation where there are willing and capable people, but the admin process is too expensive and bars people who are in need of paying groceries, rent and bills. They can't find enough millrights either. Its the same problem.\n\nYou've got a surplus of willing and capable workers and employers seeking talent, but the admin process inhibits the entire process. \n\nIf I could start apprenticing on-the-job today as a mechanic or millright I would. But, I need to support family, so instead I am working readily available joe-jobs. \n\nAll trade positions will continue to be unfilled on job posting boards, while potential candidates will be busy working low pay jobs in warehouses etc. just trying to survive. Ontario is idiotic! Back in 2014 they introduced the Ontario College of Trades which only sought to take admin fees from every conceivable profession. The old bureaucratic established people in Ontario have a way of keeping everyone as peasants and minions. This is also why people are leaving for Alberta (a wise decision).

As a born and raised Canadian millennial, I'm grateful to have escaped Canada almost a decade ago when even back then I could no longer tolerate the conditions of Greater Toronto. It's exponentially worse in Toronto today. I wish the best for Canada but I just can't see it improving over the coming decades. I love my life in the US too much to ever move back, but fortunately close enough to make the drive to visit friends and family.

I can't stand this place and especially people! It's sooo dreadful, if I spoke truthfully the comment would get auto deleted. So since it turned out to be the polar opposite of the propaganda and how Canadians talk about themselves to the world (and the type of immigrants who fled poverty and had absolutely nothing back home and for whom Canada is actually an upgrade of sorts), I'll just use Canada as a stepping stone to get back to the US where I studied and got all my degrees and the place was infinitely better than Canada in almost every area. And there people are actually normal, like they'll talk to you, invite you to their home or to go out, make sure you aren't alone for Thanksgiving, etc. In Canada there's none of that, you're on your own! To me living in Canada is a nightmare!

Diversity is a threat to Canadian culture and social cohesion. Immigration makes such issues worse, plus it adds to the nation's carbon footprint, congestion on the roads, strains in healthcare and food insecurity. And then there is housing. End immigration entirely until these problems are solved.

I had a conversation with my Uber driver last week, he was a immigrant from the middle east himself, we were both upset about people coming over here and not integrating into Canadian culture and society. He said he came here so his children could grow up in peace and prosperity, but every day he sees people trying to make Canada more like the place he left.? Canada should plan better. Thing is, most Aussies (and Canadians) haven’t experienced anything better whereas I have lived and worked in four countries and my partner has lived and worked in three — we appreciate good living standards and I’ve noticed that most Canadians and Aussies don’t even know what we mean when we talk about such things. Anyway we permanently moved to the US this year because I’m also American — now finally we can start a family!

The liberals’ crazy aggressive immigration targets make everyone’s life miserable except for the rich and powerful. More people means more cash cows for them. Without sufficient infrastructure to support this kind of population growth, the GDP per capita has been dropping and housing costs have gone through the roof due to the great gap between supply and demand. The politicians only talk about the shortage of supply but let’s face it they can never build faster enough for the people they bring in. As a result, people will keep fighting for the scarcity and fuel on the Canadian housing speculation.

It's the death of the Canadian dream. You cannot afford a house in Vancouver unless you make a $100 an hour. LOL. Immigrant ARE planning an exodus which will foul up the Gov's scheme to keep the recession at bay with all the $ those immigrants are forced to dump here.

i'm watching this while booking overtime because I can't make it on 40 hours a week. Its a real problem. Government waste abounds, Aboriginals just got a 23 billion payout this year. While laudable, Canada can't afford this largesse. any longer.Crime is so rampant, over a billion in stolen cars were shipped overseas from Canada. International crime syndicates have taken the Canadian government for hundreds of millions in the last year in tax fraud schemes.

Justin's policies of profligate spending entrenches inflation and high interest rates making life hard for new and native born Canadians alike.

I think the system was designed intentionally to empty immigrants pockets and then push them out. Sell Canadian Dream, bring as much immigrants as possible. Make them pay crazy rents and keep them in never attainable certification limbo. By the time they realize they are already exploited by the system. They will end up spending all their life savings and youth in Canada doing odd low skill jobs. Cruel system for taking advantage over naive immigrants. I hope soon more and more immigrants will understand this and make wise decision of not coming to Canada at least for now.
