What we need is airport screening when a person arrives in Canada, and screening when a person leaves Canada. Such a system would give immigration authorities information about how long a person stays in Canada in any one year. At the moment, there is screening only on arrival.

We should have a kind of Super PR or near citizen status. Something that doesn't expire, but it is not full citizenship. This would allow to deport any one with fraudulent immigration process. They use the loophole, where people will surrender their original citizenship and therefore can't loose their Canadian citizenship anymore. Full citizenship would be granted after many years.

Okay so this is how third country agreements work. The paperwork in the offices in places like El Salvador is piled higher than the fkn Empire State. Nobody in their right fucking mind would want to wait until their wives are raped, kids taken into cartels. If I'm gonna go by the third country agreement, my family will be taken out one by one by the members of the cartel before the embassy even starts considering my case. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

Racism was far more prevalent in Canada decades ago. I remember hearing stories from my aunts and uncles about the types of things that would happen when they first arrived in the country. People would heckle and threaten visible minorities. \n\nBut I can say I have personally never experienced systemic racism in Canada. This country gave my family and I opportunity, safety and a just system. I was born and raised in Canada, and this is my home. I don’t like some of the set ups here. Leland was watched pretty heavily in the Regina Shoppers Drug Mart. But he’s wearing a backpack over one shoulder and shopping with a reusable bag too. That is a very common theft opportunity there as products placed in reusable bags appear to be bought when proceeding through cash registers. Also side bags and half strapped on back packs are very common concealing equipment for theft. It is very common for security and staff to watch people exhibiting those signs. In fact they are trained to do exactly that. Also, he was frequenting areas with high theft products like baby formula. It’s not unreasonable to follow that kind of behaviour. Sure there could be some racial bias at play but I would follow anyone regardless of race given the same body language and equipment I observed with Leeland. A very leading story, to be sure.

A small step but really great . You would think we as human with our high intelligence could know how closely related we all are but for some strange reason we cannot understand. That was totally unfair to assume of Shoppers in Regina. You sent your guy in with 2 personal bags. One was a personal shopping like bag in his left hand (with stuff in it already). The second one was an over the shoulder tote bag (hanging off of his right shoulder and using his right hand to keep it in place). The personal shopping like bag is open at the top and you can easily drop stuff into it, in a second. The tote bag is a fold down flap, which is popular for stealing, you can easily lift the flap ...drop something in...close the flap. If he was actually in there for shopping, he would have had a basket or cart. How is he to carry anything he buys? Both his hands are full. But he wasn't in there to shop....so neither he or the film crew thought of how is he supposed to pick anything up and keep it in his hands. (if he was really shopping). Do the test fairly.

well to be honest, a marketing guy said, that he has two appartments free on the first dude and one appartment free on the second dude.....isnt that.....good? would be better to switch the order of the visit. and the 10$ difference by a different contractor was probably mor elikly corruption by this guy than actual racism.\n\n\n\n\nthese test results dont show racial bias, but simply the facial recognision of your mind to identify white or black people, thereby have a greater cultural and social preference to come into contact with these people. the test actual showed never racism. its showes social stereotypical mindsets. to combine these stereotypes with claims, that are unjustified to a person is prejudging and by a racial mindset of reasoning its is racism.

8:17 BEST BUY Hello people Just before the COVID 19 pandemic struck our Country, in the United States of America. My son and I were shopping at Best Buy. We had more than five or six different people ask if we needed assistance. My Son would say no thanks, and I would ask each one that did ask if I needed help, to help me. That associate would show me where to look, then try real hard to get away from me. This happened at least five to six times. All six times, I said yes. Finally, they stopped asking me and continued to ask my son. The reason my son would say no thanks is because he was just looking. I, on the other hand, had questions about what I wanted to buy. They did a great job answering all of my questions, however, when it came to buying what I wanted to buy most of all of the associates had either left the area or went home, because I could not find anyone when it came down to purchasing the items I wanted, only to find out what I wanted was made in China, They no longer carry the product, in their stores, or online. However, they still had the items on display; however, you just could not buy them. P.S. We are white.

So... I have two daughters that were in the same high school in a town called Port McNeil. One, older and european descended and the younger, indigenous. My older daughter would frequent the local grocery store for her lunch regularly. When her younger sister began attending the same high school, she decided to join here sister at that store for lunch. Understand that my older euro daughter had been doing this every other day for the last year without incident or being approached once. The day she showed up with her sister, they were accosted by a woman who’d been “stocking the shelves” in every isle they entered and told, “you have to leave, I have better things to do than follow you around for an hour!”\nMy indigenous wife wanted to prove to me just how prevalent this was by asking me to stand an isle away from her in walmart in a near by city and sure enough, there was a person arranging the shelves a few meters away from her. This happened over and over. Shopping while indigenous is a thing.

The white guy they used in these test is a lot more socialable looking than I am and I am sure I would get the same treated I am even being white.\nI also worked for best buy and was told to ask people if there was something I could help them with if they look suspicious and standing in one place by a shelf is just one of those things. I’ve had uncomfortable interactions in retail stores here in Australia, because I’m a young mum (well not anymore but I have been, I had one baby at 19,21,25 and 27). Purely because they perceived me as a skank and drain on the tax payer to them. I’ve had someone ask if I had a concession card (low income/singles) and when I said “no” they’ve said “really?” Or asked me again as though I didn’t hear them. I’ve had people ask if my children all had the same dad. I would hate to think of how that would be exacerbated if I was a person of colour. I never judge anyone on first impressions but a lot of people do. It’s really sad.

Wow I never knew of Canada's prejudices. I encounter a lot of Toronto ppl in NYC that I'm not keen on but their personalities just remind me of folks you encounter on the upper Eastside. I have southern roots (SC and MS) and have grown up in Missouri most my life so I know racism. I would hope it couldn't be worse than that in Canada, as I still do want to visit one day soon.

I have 5 canadian friends 3friends 2bestfriends welp they’re online and yeah they’re online because I don’t live in Canada tho I do see Canada as a wonderful place and if I were to go anywhere/travel I would only go to Asian places but Canada’s one of the places I’d visit or live in thats not Asian <3 (I’m Chinese)

This is play-pretend journalism. If they -actually- wanted to do real journalism and not some undeserved-guilt-provoking, race-baiting propaganda piece, they would have had to go the extra mile and cross-reference such behaviors with cold-hard statistics about crime convictions by ethnicity, showing that the discriminatory behavior is entirely based on racism and not on statistical risk. I couldn't watch it past the 10 minute mark.\n First of all, if the white guy had been the first to tell the manager that he was interested in the apartments, then of course that same manager is going to tell the 2nd person (asian guy) that the availability is limited. He already HAS a potential renter, why would he need more? The 1st guy already chose one of the apartments, so of course the Asian guy would have less options.\nSecondly, and I'm sorry to say this, but statistically there are more black shoplifting cases than with any other race. It's sad, but true. The presenters seems to be a bit biased thinking that all Syrians are muslims, when in fact many Syrian Arabs are Christians, and they’re the true refugees! At one time Syria also had a thriving Jewish community as well! Arab Muslims are by and large a big issue as well as other Muslims, they need tougher scrutiny than non Muslim Arabs. My friend Mohammad a Christian who was raised Muslim in Syria would agree with me.

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.
