It is a mix of everything, IMO. Several other countries are also in the same situation (Canada is not the only country facing this). I think the big part is capitalism, which squeezes out everyone and reaches a junction where there is no balance.

The final scene at the new Canadians rally is nice to see. But what you’re not seeing are the THOUSANDS of people who aren’t success stories. People who bring nothing to the party but still need a place to live. I’m fine with immigration, I think Canada is a better place for being diverse. But you can’t just keep the tap on when the glass is already full. We need to turn off the immigration spigot for a while, catch up to get our services and housing to a level that is workable, then look at turning it back on with a smarter outlook on the numbers to bring in.

While I can't speak for Canada, I will say that in the U.S. the issue with immigration has been the insistence from immigrants that we accept their culture while ours is ignored.

I am an Indian and every day I see ads from Canadian universities promising me work visas and top quality education. I also get calls from agents time to time saying my alma matter is more than enough to land me a job there and they just need a certain amount of money to send me to canada with work permit without any college enrollment.

Canada has a massive immigration problem right now. There is a student visa loop hole thats just been fixed where people would get a student visa at some 3rd party “institution” then bring their entire family along with them on open work permits.

This country has plummeted drastically this past decade. The immigration is absolutely ridiculous. Doesn't matter from where. This problem won't be solved until the Baby Boomer generation has passed away, but that will also cause issues too. We need to focus on our own before accepting others in. No country is responsible for people other than their own citizens. This includes Canada and any other country in the world. No country has the obligation to import people from other countries. If the immigration is beneficial for any country it can take place. Once it's not beneficial any more it should be stopped. Nobody is entitled to a free meal, a free meal can be given because of generosity, not because of any pressure or obligation.

This is SUCH a puff piece completely one sided that dismisses legitimate concerns as the only reason being xenophobic......Canada has always welcomed people but it was done at a lot slower pace where people had a chance to assimilate and build a life. You can't add over a million people a year with different cultures and pretend it's going to be ok. Ignoring the massive housing crisis, it's a culture crisis. A lot of the people coming do not share Canadian values, period. Canadians are noticing a massive change in the country they love seemingly overnight. You go out in any city and you barely see white people anymore. It's jarring. It was made into an amazing country by certain people and now it seems new immigrants are treated better than citizens. Everyone is in favor of immigration done the right way, but that isn't what's happening and natural born Canadians have every right to be upset that the country is being ruined in a way they don't want.

If you travel through Indian villages mainly in Punjab, Mumbai, Delhi and Southern states every KM you will see study/immigrate to Canada. They will tell you it is very easy as you need to spend only INR2.0Million( CAD 35K) to get there and balance you can work there as part time. Majority of Indians coming to Canada is from low income families who want to become middle class in India . High time Canada regulate its student intake and restrict only to selected universities and courses and stop allowing part time work. High skill immigration is still ok as they are coming based on their merit and point threshold and definitely contributing for Canadas economic growth. Student intake must be controlled .

Let's be clear here, it started many years ago when Harper was in charge. The Conservative Government lured educated foreigners to Canada with the promise of great, high paying jobs, and once they got here, once they left EVERYTHING, including their families behind, were told they would have to go back to school in order to be certified. There are very few normal people except the dredges of society who migrate to western countries and maybe a few super super rich. The west made it so hard to jump through all the hoops that normal middle class would not want to put in the effort to degrade themselves and go west. The result is Canada and most of the west get the worst type of migrants and yet the west makes it even harder paradoxically and ends up with even more boat people!

There is a distinction between legal heavily regulated migration and illegal unregulated mass migration . I am British so as you know we are experiencing the same issue it’s honestly the lack of assimilation, a large portion of migrants essentially replicating their home culture and a lack of respect for the host culture, also as much as we dislike to acknowledge it ,some cultures are incompatible with others , that’s not racist it’s the unfortunate reality .
