As a Canadian i believe we need to stop this. This is not good for the country as its not good for our taxes. Talking about taxes a lot of people also work under the table (cash only jobs). This wasy they avoid taxes as well. Canada needs to hire undercover agents and make the fines to business owners so high that they would go bankrupt if they employ such people. There are also communities that hire only their people. I do not consider this as intergration to a host nation. A lot of issues that need to be addressed. Thats why i believe we need a strong leader to make Canada good for its law abiding citizens.

I'm confused. What part of it should be illegal? Claiming asylum generally? Quitting your job while outside of your country? Does having a job mean you cannot claim asylum?\n\nAre they hiding when they get here which is why the visa part is important, or claiming asylum? If they're claiming asylum, and they aren't eligible, maybe we should make sure we have enough courts to hear them out and send them back.

They should make some sort of army type (physical) field training in front of the border and all around. And whoever has the physical aptitude to win all of the challenges, the prize would be the free entrance in the country.

They allow immigrants....immigrants work hard like in two shifts, they just work and sleep for a decade and then dump people say immigrants are problem.... you vote for govt. Which make policies...and why can't these countries accommodate more people if india and China can accommodate 1.5 billion people....in india on Himalayan region only has more population than Canada...

Canada should take in just a small number of immigrants who are highly skilled and only if they are specifically needed - when they can’t find a Canadian to fill it. \nThe universities and bs colleges are making hand over fist while people from the third world, are using the studies to get easy access to our country and corporations love the cheap labour.

Maybe the the Syrian and Palestinians who already crossed borders are creating ruckus and refuse to integrate in European society should reflect. It's thier actions which is making countries close thier borders

Out of the logic I got in Arab countries like Saudi Arabia,, Qatar,, Kuwait etc... I think the discriminant is not from race rather basically because of religion.. since according to the Quran Muslims are warned not to be friends with non-muslim and basically to set a massive boundary.. so that's the reason why they are like that... So for anyone who migrates to such countries I think it would be better for them to learn Arabic as well as have fair knowledge about the Quran inorder to blend in rather than being a skeptic to your own religion,, that's what makes life difficult in Arabic countries but if your a muslim things aren't that bad in those sides of the world

Becsuse Canada cannot accomidate an influx of people all at once. People from.3rd world countries who suddenly have access to a heath system for free? Thats gonna make for overcrowded hospitals. To say nothing of the lak of housing. \n But .... 30 yrs ago our biggest fear was that there would ,'no longer be a pension'. Those fears are quelled because these immigrants, while working at Tim Hortons will pay tax.

As a 32 year old male born in Kitchener, Ontario. This mass immigration is killing our country. With so many immigrants from India that (as a whole, not every Indian) do NOT assimilate to Canada and our culture has us pretty upset. It’s making our housing crisis worse and killing our economy. Canada is not the same country I grew up in and it’s changing fast before our very eyes. We are losing our image, identity and our culture. For my argument, we get called a racist for pointing this out about the mass Indian immigration. They immediately combat us saying “look what you did to the natives” like come on… The truth is, we’d call out anyone else from any other country.

Immigration is always a short cut to avoid tackling the right problem. Canada is a country of many opportunities. My observation is that people are not making effort to work harder, too many regulations also limit companies to make great innovation that brings wealth here. Immigrants who come to Canada have an enormous amount of energy to build the country but the system always puts aside and cannot unlock their full potential. Just my observation only.

Scapegoating? It's simple supply and demand, and nothing can change it. Socialism won't fix it, importing impoverished people won't fix it, legislation won't fix it. You have to attract people with the proper skillsets to make the country and city better. Having a booming population and no room to grow doesn't do that. The California Bay Area and Los Angeles area has already seen the problems this causes, companies and skilled workers are moving to places that they can afford to live and build companies. With more people comes less opportunities, Canada needs to learn from the mistakes of others. Do not take everyone, take those who want a better life but can also give back to the country.

I love immigrants, they're what make our country so special all the different cultures coming together. The problem right now is because of terrible government mismanagement we don't have enough housing or jobs for everyone already here. That's my only reason for wanting to pause immigration. It's like being on a life raft that's already full, you can't take more even if you want to.

This journalist seems to forget that immigration is not a right but a privilege. I am sick and tired of the demagogues who keep parroting the same faux arguments about the so-called contribution of immigrants. It used to be like that, because immigrants were carefully selected. I’m immigrant from Iraq. Came in 2009 and I can say Canada has immigration problem. There’s no way you are getting these students back to India. When I came to Canada I came because I wanted to make it my second home. A country that I’m willing to actually fight for. These guys are here just to make money and send it back to India. They don’t like Canada they don’t like Canadians they don’t care about the country and the land. They are here to milk Canada and it’s effecting Canadians. When a store whole operation is run by Indians do you think a Canadian will get hired?

As an Indian student, i would like to share with you my perspective \n1) you will never see me dancing in public, blasting music and littering \n\nI actually spend my sundays cleaning plastic from trails \n\n2) i am a full time student for 4 years funding over 90 grand for a bachelor on top of that paying my taxes and paying 1100$ a month for rent being limited to 24 hours a week I do not work outside campus I work the job the college provided to me \n\nThe problem comes up when people use the 1 year and 6 month diploma program to enter the country and work here full time \n\nThey associate themselves only with indians mainly because they cant speak the English language fluently \nTherefore they associate with the exact people they associated with back home \n\nHow will they adapt to a new country if they hang out with the same people \n\n\nI came to canada with a goal \n\nTo make Canadian friends \nLearn about Canadian culture \nStart a new life \nAnd work my ass off to get my degree \n\n\nMost people move here to make more money \n\nThey sell their land and do so \n\nPlease do not associate hard working indians who adapt and leave their past behind with these people who have come here purely to exploit the system\n\n\nTrust me I know it's hard to hear this but good Indians do exist. It's a complicated situation, sad and painful but we can expext the EU to solve and take on all the issues of the arab world when arab countires are not making an effort to help there people.\n\nChange need to happen in order to help those who wants better life but it can not fall on a few countries.

It is exactly the same dynamic in the US. There is a pull of immigrants into the country by moneyed interests. Those who make money from selling essential goods, those who own properties to rent, those who gain from higher cost of homes, those who want to keep wages low, all benefit from the influx of immigrants. They are creating this flow.

I live in rural Atlantic Canada. There is lots and lots of land not being used. People driving long distances from their huge single family home to get to town or the city. If no Canadians are moving to the country side to start homesteads, then why not immigrants. I don't see the point of someone moving to a local small town to work in a Tim Hortons or not if there is no job available and buy franken foods from huge corporations. Instead if some immigrants want a homesteading life (some probably would), give people grants to make apartments in their huge single family farmhouses left from the days when people had ten kids, and subdivide their land so the new people can farm it. The local people can get rent money and payment for the subdivision and still have a large plot of land left over). Grow the local farmers markets! Grow the small towns to what they were 100 years ago! Make it so people only had to drive to the city when they wanted to, not for work. There is so so much empty land out here used for massive lawns.

I like multiculturalism and this country is founded on immigration. But we need to put cap on each country when receiving them so to maintain the balance of good mix.\n\nI get bothered why this guy statistically divide white vs others. In the end this land belongs to the indigenous people none of us. \n\nAnyways, most of my friends from Western Europe, Japan, Korea and Singapore - first world nations, have already moved back after couple of years of living here. Look at Gardiner- it's constantly on construction mode. Hire more surgeons and make better family doctor system. This government only legalized marijuana and brought more problems. We used to live near Trinity bellwood and the park is now filled with used needles. \n\nAs for homelessness, it's always been there and it got worse during economic depression (2008 mortgage crisis) and current prime rate/inflation situation. Even if you study stats from government subsidized housing, most immigrants work and get out of help but the old immigrants (whites) usually don't flip out of the situation for generations. So there is no reason to tie and blame the Indians for our old problem of homeless population. Stay on point and stop tying it down with non-related issues.

What makes me laugh when people are talking about diversity is, who built these countries in the first place? I don't think Africa is capable of doing it, nor the middle east or even the Eastern countries. It's Europe who got these places started, it was initated by a white society, you know the guys who made all the inventions and stuff.

Canada has always been a country of immigrants, but in my country, Poland, that hasn't traditionally been the case. We're also seeing an influx of people from developing countries, many of whom come under false pretenses, enroll in private universities, or attempt to cross our borders illegally to reach Germany. Right now, we're at a loss, and the most frustrating part is that while we need skilled immigrants, we're instead getting unskilled individuals who don't even make an effort to learn the language. This would only make sense to me if we weren't sitting on stolen land and if the West didn't mess up other parts of the world for our benefit.
