Toronto has definitely become less safe in the last 10-15 years, although still much safer than many major centres in the USA. Personally, I've had to change some of my behaviours to accommodate heightened safety. For example, I don't fill my gas tank at night anymore because of the increase in car jackings in my area. I also don't take public transit at night because almost every day there is a new story about the police looking for someone who sexually assaulted someone on the transit system. As a woman, you just need to be more careful in Toronto and it doesn't help that you can't carry any weapons on you for self-defense. I would never move to the USA because I think it would be too much culture shock for me. But I have seriously considered moving out of Toronto to a safer area and more affordable cost of living.

Remember when the trucker Convoy people were called terrorist and then the Punjabi Community got angry because they were called a terrorist?\n\nAlso the native woman got crushed by the RCMP horse during that protest. Also the news reporters were not allowed and the one who did was shot in the leg by RCMP, also a woman.\n\nAlso a grandmother thrown in jail with chains around ankles and wrists, forbidded her to speak in public by using any source of utilities as in social media.\n\nOh! Implying that there mirror presents is a problem and that they are mostly drug addicts. When in reality housing prices are very high so force lot of people to be homeless. As a 13year old was put in a man's maximum security prison, held in solitary - every day. hmm .. when I worked in Japan for about a year locals told me that if I wanted to obtain Japanese citizenship I had to either perform a heroic act saving lives, marry a Japanese woman or officially employed in Japan for at least ten years. Just residing in Japan doesn't count. I have also heard that the notorious Nigerian crooks of Tokyo marry Japanese women to obtain citizenship. Reading the comments, I am stunned Canada hands out citizenship like napkins, are we talking about dual citizenship here??? and what about when they don't like the cold and decide to leave, they still can keep that citizenship like some sort of collector's badge? Africans being forced into slavery by their own people is greedy and heartbreaking and that cruelty is exactly what we have today. The cruelty of some blacks is outrageous, ask any elderly man or woman who was punched in the face by one of these cruel ones. What I don't dig is how every black person with a mediocre platform MUST talk about something black. In one way it was a blessing when blacks were brought to the states. In Africa many blacks had to suffer through famine and had to eat insects, there have been many cases of genocide, slave trade and HIV. After the Republicans died freeing the slaves, blacks were afforded a whole new life. It hasn't been easy but for blacks, life before BLM was encouraging blacks to attend college and get great jobs and the people in these companies accepted and even made friends with them. These motivated blacks were a minority though and the reality is that many backs wasted their life wanting to be rap stars and gangsters...the latter has increased this stupidity a hundred fold since BLM. Stop talking about blacks, how you perceive they are being treated, slavery, reparations and what ever else you have up your sleeve and start focusing on the very youth who will be on this planet when we are are old and helpless..

I Was born in Canada and I agree and disagree with some points you've mentioned. How can you come to Canada and not expect to wear a jacket ? lol... The price of living is going up all over the world, the last 6yrs has become very pricey in all western countries. Hospitals are overrun in major cities in Canada that's very true, but not in smaller locations. Boring (are you crazy ? lolol) I completely disagree. You just don't know where to go lol ... however everything you do in Canada cost money ?. And I completely agree when you mention that Canada won't allow you to become filthy rich (very disappointed about that one) ... There is racism, but not just from the predominant Canadians. There have been many times when the racism is from someone new to Canada. But i also know as a black person i will experience this anywhere in the world. (They're portraying what they normally would towards me while in there own countries) ... anyway nice post, it's nice to hear what it's like from your perspective. Find yourself a good Canadian man (or woman) to show you around ???. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but you still have to find the beauty in order to behold it :).

I appreciate this video. I am a Canadian woman with a Gambian boyfriend. He thinks that he's going to come here and become rich easily and I keep telling him it's not the paradise you think it is. I keep telling him that cost of living is always going to be more than your income and it's really difficult to get ahead to a point where you can enjoy your income. Thank you for sharing, maybe he will hear it better from you as you have the first hand experience.

I've thought about moving to Canada from the US, at least for warmer months of the year, but decided against it for some of the reasons you list and one you didn't list. The amount owed in taxes and cold, dreary Winters, while prices are still pretty high for necessities all makes me think I'm better off just staying where I am. Also I learned recently that you have this thing called Self ID, where any man can decide he's a woman and just fill out a form and pay a fee, then has access to all women's spaces, programs, etc. That sealed the deal. I like some liberal things about Canada, but the country is just too far into the extreme left for me. Good luck to all of you up there though. I hope the coming Winter is a mild one.

Though I am an Indian I can understand the frustration of racist people like this woman..Though it sounds very ugly and is not acceptable behaviour, however immigrants from any country mines included must understand that they can't escape the problems of their nation and find an el Dorado or solace in rich and advanced countries..While I don't mean to be racist but the ecosystem in the western world, which attracts people from other nations especially the third world has been created mainly by white euopean settlers.. I am an Irish man that moved to the U.S.S.A twenty years ago. And my ass and all my other bits and pieces are now ( Thanks Christ be to Jesus) back in Ireland. America is not a country its a business. The most God dam cold vacuous depressing soulless place on this planet. Land of the fee and home of the slave. An open air prison with so many God dam rules and regulations it will make your head spin. Thank feck I have traveled . I have been all around Europe and South America, and a little to Africa. And I can say hands down. You don't live when you are in that God forsaken country Amerika. You exist. Nobody has any time. Nobody talks to or trusts anyone. The only time someone talks to you is if they want to sell you something. It's the land of fake smiles and fake personalities. They are void of any sense of humor, and please don't get me started on the woman. They are co co co colder than a witches tit. The cost of living is ridiculous. The cost of housing a joke. The U.S. is very large, and there are many different types of people and many different types of neighborhoods, cities, and communities. I have lived where neighbors knew one another very well, and their kids would play ball in the street or play baseball at the local park or playground. I have lived where there are walking trails where you would see the same familar faces time and again. I have lived where there were many community activities. There are places where you can find farmer's markets and where churches are large and hold events. Our town has many groups that you can join, and there is a local theater. There are cities of course, where you can find all sorts of things to do. People do have a tendency in many places to have their spaces, and as most people do have what they need within those spaces...and many are spending more and more time on computers and watching televisions, we are becoming more estranged than we once were. We have come to value privacy. But, again, there are many many people with many different lifestyles. Today I went to shop at two different stores and ended up in conversations with several people. One man invited me to visit his farm. One woman told me all about her home and garden. Another lady told me about her daughter and what was going on with their family. I did not feel like a stranger, and the people I saw working in different businesses today were talkative and interacting with many other people, including friends and neighbors and other familiar faces. it just takes a little effort to smile and to speak. That being done, I was very happy to return to my home and have my own space again, where I knew I could take a nap without anyone knocking unexpectedly on my door. So....it depends on what you want. I would hesitate to paint the U.S. with a very broad brush. \nThat being said, it is very difficult to leave your home behind. It can be very difficult to stop seeing differences because you did love so many things about where you grew up, though you might not realize how much you will miss them until you've gone. I feel that in myself, and I have to be very careful not to miss the potential and possibilities where I am, because I am always thinking about how I miss where I once was.

I worked with a guy from Ghana in Newark NJ. He had married an American woman who bossed him around and didn't really care for him. He lost a lot of money in a church pyramid scheme and I think the American diet contributed to him having a heart attack and later a stroke that killed him. I saw a video on Ghana and I really thought he would have been so much better staying in Ghana and probably would have had a much better and longer life.

As one married to a Ukrainian woman, I will tell you that ALL the Ukrainians that I have met are proud, hardworking, intelligent, loyal people with an ability to exist happily with accommodation and resources that would be unsatisfactory and unacceptable to most Canadians. They are an addition - not a subtraction. They can only improve the structure of this country.
