It's not a trade war, he did it because canada allowed illegal immigrants over the US border. He knows what he did was wrong and the borders are there for a reason. He fucked up, not America. And good luck canada, your gonna suffer because of these counter tariffs.

I had to stop listening to this panty waste! We have been trying to understand for TEN YEARS, what the Liberal/NDP Coalition has been doing/saying. Why did it take a President from another country, to threaten tariffs for them to do their jobs? Sell Out Singh, is just as much to blame, as is Croatia Freeland, Mark “Carnage” Carney! Carney probably made a deal with DT for all of this!! I am not a fan of DT, not even close, and it pains me to agree with some of the things he’s saying. JT, says 1% of drugs come from here. That’s 1000% ? ?!! They don’t even check the ports. This dude at the border is a friend of JT’s, just like everyone in his cabinet! His old babysitter, his best man, at his wedding… IRS an absolute disgrace what’s happening here! I/we just want our country back, that’s it! We NEED an election and complete change of government! JT, the failed drama teacher, had zero business being a politician, let alone a PM!! He is the absolute disgrace of Canada! His legacy, is FAILURE. Hopefully these tariffs leave when Trudope/Carnage and Sell Out are gone from office! ??????????

No, Trump is NOT smart. He is a complete moron. He literally said he “thinks” the other countries pay the tariffs. And unfortunately half of our citizens are also morons for electing that scum.

The problem is the US runs a deficit of 6% and piles up public debt although unemployment is extremely low , so instead of raising income tax or other social security contributions, the new administration tries to get money from tariffs, it will work like an increase of VAT . Cutting expenditure and increasing income to finance the federal budget through tariffs is another way to reduce deficits. The price however is to loose a lot of partners and the status of a super power.

So are tariffs a way to punish other countries or to punish the people of the U.S.,will mr. Trump please explain this to the american people?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Make it 250 % Tariffs on everything.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Canada's $63 billion trade imbalance is a bigger issue. your telling trump the last time he was in the white house you would be spending 2% of your GDP on the military by 2024. Now you say you will get to 1.8% by 2027. Open your trade. Like JD Vance said we can keep going up on Tariffs until you balance trade.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Two things come to mind after hearing about all this stuff. Why you go on live TV and waste your time when you could attempt to talk it out with the American government? Also, if the United States is posing a 25% tariff in Canada is doing the exact same thing isn't it more or less a wash?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Well, I am from America and I never heard of such a bunch of whiny babies in my life. If you got an app to get her Mr. Trudeau and got the border tightened up instead of lying about us you wouldn’t have 25% tariff against you in the business we do a Canada as much it is in the billions it’s chunk change to us so young with the program and get it together and take a nap order in for you Europeans. I wouldn’t criticize in America to quickly because we’re in America well that’s not how that conversation.

Only one mistake in this magnificent speech, our Government did not launch Tariffs, TRUMP did! Trump is running a mock and we are going to have to deal with this raging lunatic!
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Wait, doesn’t he realize that destroying our institutions, safety and health, firing hundreds of thousands of Americans, stealing their private data, and social security, destroying the economy and our global security…and now, imposing insane tariffs on our allies to further destroy our economy is all destroying people’s lives, the economy and our democracy? Uhmm, YEAH, THATS THE F__KING POINT. But you’re definitely not going to glean that from corporate news media.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I'm 100% sure that on the day the LIEBERALS will leave office the tariffs are off.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Wait so if tariffs are so bad for the country imposing them and that trump is so dumb to impose tariffs why would they retaliate with tariffs if there so bad for the country imposing them? It makes no sense. If trump is wrong for imposing tariffs why respond with your own?
|

Trump can’t enact tariffs without a national emergency so he CLAIMED border issues and drug trafficking as a justification

Remember, thus is the tyrant who turned off people's bank accounts in the middle of winter because he didn't like people disagreeing with him.\nCanadian Supreme Court later found this was illegal but the damage had been done.\nCanada has had tariffs on American imports for years! This is a bully whining that he is finally being called out.\nTrudeau is a puppet of China.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Who will be paying tariffs? Trudeau? No. It’s us Canadian. For years this govt did nothing much to attract new business or grow economy.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Fox news I watched yesterday and Trump said tariffs start on April 2nd. The day after April 1st our April fools day. My money's on fox news. They've told the truth about other news.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
The Trump supporters I know either have no clue what he’s doing, or they believe that he’s just bargaining for better deals because they think America is getting screwed by our allies. This is all nonsense of course. \n\nThe American right has gone through ten years of brainwashing by conservative media outlets, and they really believe Trump will somehow bring back the America from 60+ years ago. They are in a cult, and they may double down on their fanaticism with these retaliatory tariffs.\n\nI watched sanity be replaced with complete craziness, and I do not know how we can finally get these people to realize they were misled.

And next month it'll be 50% tariffs to Canada. Have fun.

The problem is tariffs don't hurt the government, they hurt the people
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Well 25% tariffs from Mexico and 25 % from Canada, You Americans, for your own good and for democracy better impeach your president and his people.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
America will remain unaffected by the recent tariff changes by the Governor of the Great State of Canada.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Trudea is the reason for these tariffs, lose trudeau and his carbon tax and your cost of living will reduce by 40% . Trudea don't care, he makes money no matter how much he puts canada in the red! He is purposely destroying Canada's economy for his corporate buddies to cash in as a monopoly, like the grocery chains and green companies etc. Trudeau is committed to putting canada in a fire sale for the world. We.f. agenda bail out at Canadians expense and freedoms. Trudeau is nothing but a actor a bad one at that!

I'm curious how much tariffs does Canada charge the US?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
What % of phentonol does the US say comes in from Canada? Canada say 1%. Tariffs are unjustified if it’s that low. I think it’s kick the small boy so bigger boys like the EU are more flexible. Trump said EU VAT ‘tariff’ to USA. Does he not realise VAT is a purchase tax applied to all = internal products, and anything from all countries.

Trump's Import Tariffs Are To Combat a Non-Existing Problem
\n
\nThe import tariffs that US President Donald Trump has imposed on Mexico, Canada and China are meant to combat a non-existent problem, economics editor Jonathan Witteman recently analysed. Trump sees the structural trade deficit (the difference between the export and import of goods and services) that the United States has with almost all of its trading partners as a sign of weakness. Contrary to almost all political left-wing and also right-wing economists, he believes that a trade deficit is bad for a country's economy and believes that the US is being cheated by countries that export more to the US than they import.
\n
\n'I have said that the EU must make up for its enormous deficit with the US by purchasing our oil and gas on a large scale. If not, punitive tariffs will follow', Trump said last December, for example, about the trade balance between the US and the European Union.
\n
\nA connection between a bad economy and having a trade deficit cannot be found, political economy professor Andres Freytag concludes in the analysis. There are many countries in the world, such as Germany, with a trade surplus but a poorly performing economy. The opposite is more likely to be true: in countries with a trade surplus, more people are unemployed. This was shown by the Peterson Institute.
\n
\nTrump's tariffs are more dangerous for the economy, because they reduce imports and exports, partly because other countries in turn impose punitive tariffs in response. Trump's announced import tariffs during his first term even led to a larger trade deficit and to 7.2 billion dollars in welfare losses in the US.

Reciprocal tariffs coming to Canada
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
All Canada have to do is put a 25% export tariff on a America then everything will be equal apart from the poor consumer who will have to pay a whopping 50% rise in goods..?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
These tariffs are embarrassing and unacceptable. So disgraceful. So shameful of Donald Trump and the Republican party.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I actually am a fan of trump and I think he’s a strong person who will stand for the country, but what he is doing with these tariffs are gonna have long lasting effects on our country company’s will raise prices on products to make up for loss profits and that will harm who? Yes it’ll harm us the consumers somebody really needs to sit down and talk with trump before he makes a poor decision, tariffs are very easy and quick to be put onto a country but taking away tariffs not so much
|

@Tradeau, Stop lecturing us about tariffs and threatening Americans. Your country has high taxes, and before it affects Americans, Canadian citizens will feel the consequences more. Additionally, stop pushing illegal immigrants and fentanyl across the US border. You call it a trade war, but we Americans call it a fair deal. You were well informed about the consequence but you never got serious about the warning. Canada must check strictly shipments from Mexico and China.
|

So are we pretending that Canada hasn't already had enormous tariffs on American goods?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Professor Jeffrey Sachs put it well regarding Trumps deficits with countries and so charging them tariffs…. “it’s like you maxed out your credit card all over town and then blamed the businesses who sold you those goods and services for selling them to you”!!

Tariffs is an equal to the sanctions. They are one of the primary objectives Orange agent should accomplish on his duty. The revenge of the Sith

Yes, the number two in the Oval Office is Pence, and his words often come across as cheap, bullying tactics. Instead of offering real leadership or thoughtful discussion, he uses language that tries to intimidate and put others down. His approach often feels like he's trying to hold onto power by scaring people, rather than standing on solid ground with strong ideas. This kind of talk may work for some, but it only creates more division and gets in the way of real progress.\nThe biggest mistake was introducing tariffs without any backup plans in place. The bottom 60% of U.S. citizens will likely struggle to make ends meet in less than two years, stuck behind the barriers of these tariffs. The idea that South American countries might step in to help the U.S. seems unrealistic. More likely, the U.S. will find itself isolated, facing political instability—and to put it bluntly, a loss of trust—thanks to an overinflated ego and a sense of entitlement.\nCould the U.S. turn to African countries for their natural resources? It’s possible, but this effort probably won’t be successful. Most African nations, except for those in the Sahel region, are just beginning to recover from the effects of colonialism. Many are now building their own paths and are more likely to align with China’s influence rather than the U.S. Even if the U.S. tries to get resources from Africa, it will likely face challenges from both local resistance and growing competition from China.

I'm a born Canadian and i'm BAFFLED at how you would turn around and impose tariffs on your closest ally. Canada and the US had a relationship that was built on trust co-operation and trillions of dollars and it means nothing to their current president. I used to be a fan of Trump, but the recent situation with Zelensky along with the tariffs i can see more and more that having him back in office was a huge mistake. Trump obviously doesn't care about how the tariffs affect his country and his people because he responded by threatening to raise the tariffs in retaliation to Canada's response.

This is a good way to increase the wealth of the 1%. Soften the economy, cause a sell of of stocks at reduced prices. Cause the average person to lose sources of income, forcing them to sell assets at reduced prices. The 1% can swoop in and buy them up. The the Boss comes in and removes the tariffs and buoys the markets. This will make the 1% even more rich.

Starmer take note. Now it's your turn to step up to the plate and tell Donny Fanta how it is going to be. No tariffs on UK yet, but he will try to screw us over somehow. Head him off at the pass and get the boot in first
|

It’s suspicious that Trump’s is giving the SOTU address on the same day as he abrogates our commitments to Ukraine and instigates an illogical tariff war against our friends Canada and Mexico.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Did Trump not watch the Star Wars Prequels? He’s acting like the Trade Federation starting a trade war, with strings being pulled in the shadows by Palpatine. He thinks he’s Palpatine but that’s Putin. And when Palpatine dismantled the Republic and inserted the Empire, what happened to the Trade Federation? And if the ridiculousness of this comment gets you, then you should think these tariffs are ridiculous because it’s the same damn thing.

When did Fentanyl get added to this tariff situation?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
As a US citizen who voted for Trump, I have no idea why Trump impose tariffs on Canada. Why can’t Trump just ask Canada straight if he wants something done by Canada? Does he want to limit Chinese products through Canada?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
It's simple Trudeau. Remove the tariffs THAT WERE ALREADY IN PLACE on American goods before Trumps tariffs were placed; Trumps tariffs goes away. Keep thinking that you can beat the US economy, and he will crush yours.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Sh-t for brains Trump is using fentanyl as an excuse with Canada for the tariffs. What is really eating at Trump is what Trump calls the “trade deficit” between US & Canada trading which is NOT the fault of Canada but ignorant Trump seems to think it is so he is trying to punish Canada but really punishing the US
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Trump will watch this begin to fail, as Canada and Mexico stand up to his bullying, and he will proclaim border crossings have stopped and fentanyl has been eradicated! So he will cancel the tariffs and declare he was such a tough guy he made them adhere to his will. Trump is a master at getting ahead of the news cycle, all the while lying and FAILING. He ruins all he touches and brags about being a genius. He is a sick man.

Why is Canada delaying some of its counter tariffs? An eye for an eye.
