I hope here in Australia our leaders take a cue from Trudeau and don't start kowtowing to Trump. Hopefully Trudeau has the effect of emboldening other nations' leaders in their dealings with Trump and his cronies.

I’ve been operating an import export business for 25 years throughout the entire time It has always been more expensive to clear goods from Canada into the USA than the other way around. Meaning there was already a trade barrier in effect to Canada’s detriment. This is just insult to injury. I wish the White House looked at the facts on the ground rather than fantasy. These tariffs are unnecessary.

TRUMP the Narc has to create psychodramas to make himself look like the HERO ...but it has the opposite effect ..it's all about him ALWAYS

From an assumption that these and future tariffs will positively harm the US economy, just where does Trump go when the shit hits the fan (as it pretty much already has done)? How does he row back from the chaos he is causing and has caused. He doesn't retreat easily. I suspect that he will sack key members of his cabinet, effectively blaming them for this shift show, to try to save face. If the GOP ever grew a pair I can see impeachment in the works on the grounds of real and present harm to the US.

50% of Americans didn't want this either but thank you for wearing a suit so Trump can take your concerns and suggestions seriously. 50% of Americans are now fashion designers and follow blindly until our current administration policies effect them negatively.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thank you for your address to Americans, to the american Bully in chief, and to your people. I am among those who started pushing back before trump took office, many are. We’re watching legislation and countering it. It won’t be easy, but we, the other half who understand that trump is crooked and dysfunctional, will not give up. Generally, Americans are not great when it comes to hitting the pavement and letting our voices be heard, but we’re getting much better. We need to be more like France, but without the destructive automobile fires and other property destruction. Life will be hell here, in my own democratic country, until the Bully is gone. I want the entire republican party gone, they only serve themselves via stock insider information, and messed up wishes to control a dystopian society while kowtowing to the billionaires. I want the democrats rebranded to acknowledge the important social programs we have. Let’s face it, they did not protect us from this trump/project 2025 takeover. Instead they allowed unchecked lies, and the ability to buy his way into office with so many felonies under his huge belt. In a country that is intellectually compromised, lies are very effective weapons against democracy. We need better hate laws to control this lying issue.

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. And there’s a federal election approaching when all partisans will be one-upping each other in the patriotism department—which manifests in more boycotts of US goods and hospitality services.\n\n Americans should know that the unofficial boycott is more harmful to US exporters than the official targeted countervails because it features immediate and longterm diminishment of Canadian purchases of US goods—all retailers know it’s very hard to recover lost customers once they’ve found alternatives (and the added patriotic effect only makes it worse). Included is diminishment of Canadian visits to the USA. Indeed, the internet is replete with testimonies of Canadian”snow birds” not only forgoing their annual sojourn in the Florida or Arizona sunshine but also of selling their properties there with the parting shot, “I will never vacation in the US again!” Already Mexico has seen its visits from Canadians (who have had a modest presence in Mexico for years) surge to unprecedented levels. I know from much-welcomed temp Mexican construction workers in BC (where I live) that they view Canadians completely differently from our mutual US neighbours—and now that affection is growing like never before. \n\nI’m continually amazed at how uninformed Americans are about tariffs—and misinformed by tRump and his goofy, preposterous, and ridiculous fantasy of world-domination. When tRump uses the lame excuse to implement emergency powers —that Canada is “allowing” (as Vance puts it) fentanyl to “pour into the USA”—it’s tantamount to saying Ukraine started the war with Russia. The man is a tendentious liar and narcissistic megalomaniac. \n\nI have faith that the great nation of the USA will reject tRump’s crazy policies—we all just have to hang on and let the needless suffering for both our nations (and the world with regard strategic alliances) play out until he either relents, is swamped in legal repercussions, is impeached, or otherwise removed from office!\n\nGood luck my American and Ukrainian friends!

Dear CNN, \n The last time Trump went to Ruzzia to 'Negotiate' anything, he curiously left behind his Translation Team, his National Security Team, AND his Intelligence Team and walked into a room with Putin, (who had ALL those things with him). This resulted in D.J. getting pumped for info for around three hours. This 'Info' Putin has managed to use to great effect, as he entered into the Ukraine War, and now Donald wants to 'Negotiate' with Putin AGAIN on behalf of Ukraine?!? Trump doesn't even use the CIA for his geopolitical briefings, he actually uses 'Private Services' for his info, (at Taxpayer Expense) largely I'm sure, because anyone who is close to being Competent at what they do would 'KNOW' things, and would be correcting Trump, constantly, which he hates with a passion. On top of this there's Tulsi Gabbard who the Ruzzians themselves have publicly stated IS an Agent of theirs for the last Decade. It's for these reasons and more that I say D.J. is a Traitor to this Country for the love of money. \n How much more of an illustration does one require for a 'Worst Case' scenario?!? A 'Rogue Actor' taking control of the U.S. Government with full access to it's Nuclear Codes. It truly makes more sense to go Radio Silent with America, (for the time being at least) and co-ordinate with Mr.Zelenskyy as to how you will proceed. I would seriously be 'dragging my heels' on that Royal Invitation as well, as D.J. will completely misinterpret that to mean something entirely else! We in the U.S. are undergoing a COUP, plain and simple. No need to Soft Sell it going forward as Trump and Vance have knowingly delivered us to Ruzzia without so much as a single shot being fired. Thanks for the Post.

If they actually wanted to end this BS they would just close their borders and stop trading with America all together. Buy rasing their Tarrifs it will have the same effect on the Canadian people . Businesses and economy as he says will happen to America.

What will be the effect on Canada and Canadians?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Ah yes, the trade war that Canada will surely lose. I love Canada. Wouldn't trade it for the world, but this is a losing battle by which citizens on both sides will feel the full effect. Trump appeasing Putin is a chess move, that the PM seems to be overlooking. The US can't afford to go to war with Russia, but at the same time, it needs resources within Russia's neighboring region. So the US will do what they always do, and had people listened to what Kissinger had to say, they'd be better prepared for this. Nonetheless, let's stand proud and strong, and come together as Canadians in order to get through this.

In a sense I know why (optics), but in another sense, I don’t. Why do so many insist on retaliating against Trump’s tariffs with more or higher tariffs of their own? I think it’d be so much more effective if someone said, “You know, we’ve thought about this, and we have come to realize that tariffs are really bad. So starting tomorrow, we will respond by getting rid of all our tariffs. This will make everything we import more affordable. It will make us richer. We hope other countries will join us! If America insists on making everything they import more expensive, lowering their standard of living, that’s their prerogative and problem!”
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. Trudeau and others can't seem to grasp that there may be a long term strategy from Trump and this is playing into it. \n\nThe truth of all of it is that Trump does not like Justin Trudeau or the Liberal government.

NOBODY IS STATING THE OBVIOUS!! Trump flip-flps on stuff that effects the stock market. FBI needs to look into who dumped stocks before tariffs kicked in, and who buys stocks before he flip-flops AGAIN!! ???

It’s business. Stop crying and get used to it. It’s time the US put up with short term pain for long term gain. VAT is in effect the same as a Tariff.

The dt CULT will never accept any wrongdoing or accountability, they are beyond understanding common sense and integrity. It’s alarming to see an entire country that is being “led” by a corrupt, idiot dictator with a cult mentality of followers. Are we just waiting for him to get worse and threaten the world with nuclear weapons or are we going to take effective actions to stop the megalomaniac before we all go down with his ship??? ???♀️

Historically speaking, walls on borders have been used to effectively keep people *_in_* and not out! Does anyone remember the iron curtain? \nWe're not going to have any trading partners left in the world, because we have turned our back on all of our traditional allies...\nHoly shit... Never thought I'd see this happen in my lifetime.

Trump is a danger to himself and others. His effect or his team have to get him committed against his will for everyone's safety. To those people who ate his power of attorney, this is orderly neglect it's not always about money, tax papers money, the team around him and is wife and see it clearly. Please have Donald a committed, please

As a German, I can only say, great country. My son studied in Canada for a year. He was given such a warm welcome. Thank you. The import taxes are nonsense. Trump is using a manner that will have a long-lasting effect. I hope for the USA that in four years there will still be free elections and an opposition.

Many americans might want to move to Canada because of Trump's authoritarian ambitions. Aligning with Putin, Trump will seek to learn more about how to be an effective dictator and kleptocrat.

I actually am a fan of trump and I think he’s a strong person who will stand for the country, but what he is doing with these tariffs are gonna have long lasting effects on our country company’s will raise prices on products to make up for loss profits and that will harm who? Yes it’ll harm us the consumers somebody really needs to sit down and talk with trump before he makes a poor decision, tariffs are very easy and quick to be put onto a country but taking away tariffs not so much

Yes, the number two in the Oval Office is Pence, and his words often come across as cheap, bullying tactics. Instead of offering real leadership or thoughtful discussion, he uses language that tries to intimidate and put others down. His approach often feels like he's trying to hold onto power by scaring people, rather than standing on solid ground with strong ideas. This kind of talk may work for some, but it only creates more division and gets in the way of real progress.\nThe biggest mistake was introducing tariffs without any backup plans in place. The bottom 60% of U.S. citizens will likely struggle to make ends meet in less than two years, stuck behind the barriers of these tariffs. The idea that South American countries might step in to help the U.S. seems unrealistic. More likely, the U.S. will find itself isolated, facing political instability—and to put it bluntly, a loss of trust—thanks to an overinflated ego and a sense of entitlement.\nCould the U.S. turn to African countries for their natural resources? It’s possible, but this effort probably won’t be successful. Most African nations, except for those in the Sahel region, are just beginning to recover from the effects of colonialism. Many are now building their own paths and are more likely to align with China’s influence rather than the U.S. Even if the U.S. tries to get resources from Africa, it will likely face challenges from both local resistance and growing competition from China.

It is sad but this is exactly what Trump is wanting. He is creating chaos and attacking our friends so he can create an emergency and declare martial law. In effect Trump is becoming a dictator who aligns with Russia and will be Putin's puppet. Great speech from PM Trudeau. I support Canada and all actions they take against Trump, regardless of how that will hurt us. This is ALL Trump's fault.

How is it that this traitor is still president? Such treachery threatens the United States in its existence. Isn't there a mechanism to remove him with immediate effect after this? This and cancelling all efforts to protect the United States from Russian cyber attacks.

I’m in Seattle and have a vacation home in British Columbia so go there often while renting out other days to other people. Wonder how the tariffs gonna affect this. For example if certain things need to be remodeled in my pad over in BC I usually order from suppliers in USA near the border since I use them for my home in Seattle too. I’m guessing it might get taxed now. Not sure how it will play out. I do know that initially tariffs gonna effect lot of people but do believe in general it will get economy better. I recently saw that Mexico been adding tariffs for years for certain USA goods (for example appliances purchased in usa from Mexico will cost another 27% etc) and it’s time for USA do similar things. Just hoping my burrito cost doesn’t keep going up. Was around 8$ several years back and now it’s 14$ in Seattle ?

I don’t think The Musk Administration understands the domino effect this is going to have. Other Countries will fall in line behind Canada and Mexico. The US will be destroyed. All Great Empires fall. The US is no more
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
On behalf of all Americans with an active brain i do sincerely apologize for the dumb tariffs imposed by Trump and Musk and i hope that after Trump leaves office we can get someone who understands tarrifs and its effects and who will revoke this tariffs and restore the healthy America and Canada relationship once again.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
You and your country are admirable! I am an American and I completely oppose what the Trump administration is doing with these tariffs. I will be buying Canadian and Mexican whenever possible, and have changed my European vacation plans to spend my vacation dollars in Canada this spring and in Mexico this fall.\n\nI am impressed with the alternative trade agreements Canada is developing. Too many Americans are willfully ignorant and do not understand the negative effects that tariffs and trade wars have. They will learn soon enough!

i hope you can stand the eventuality and significant economic and interpersonal effect this will promote. i agree principally with none of this, its unnecessary and extremist in leaning. but i can stand it and saw this ahead of time as eventual. my question is can you stand these economic effects . did they ask you on the campaign trail? well . i also suspect as an independent that we will be both affected and tested. Consider those in power in government and big business who see to these situations becoming realities for American citizens , remember they live in mansions and have generational wealth. they can lose billions and withstand it. They will not now or ever feel the effects of their poorly thought through actions. we will. we will have to. I'll never ask anyone to do something i wont.i suspect our leading majority which i came from formerly up until this point wont balance this situation. keep that in mind.

wow, a president that knows to speak coherently and logically. America, compare that to whom you have elected. what a shame. America has become a laughing stock, if the idiocy of Trump just wouldn't have such bad effects on our world.
