THE STOCK MARKET HAS BEEN PLUMMETING, PLUMMETTING, IN RESPONSE TO THE NEW TARIFFS ON OUR CLOSEST TRADING PARTNERS. SOON THERE WILL BE MILLIONS OF AMERICANS LEFT WITHOUT HEALTHCARE COVERAGE, MILLIONS!!!!! MILLIONS OF CHILDREN AND MILLIONS OF SENIORS LEFT TO DIE!!!!!! DONALD TRUMP HAS FORMED A PACT WITH THE COMMUNIST RUSSIAN DICTATOR VLADIMIR PUTIN AND HIS MISSION IS TO OVERSEE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WE MUST MOVE QUICKLY TO IMPEACH AND REMOVE THE SATANIC THE FATHER OF ALL LIES FROM THE WHITE HOUSE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Well we know what happened last time this happened! Canada traded with Australia, Uk and all the Commonwealth countries around the world which only benefited those countries. America was the first to bend and scrapped the tariffs in the end! However in the meantime let’s do a deal Canada ???

Free trade with EU and good luck USA ?

American here. My take? This is not about protectionism this is about isolationism. \nWhy would Trump want this? This is about becoming the first American dictator of the Western Hemisphere. \nHyperbolic? Nope. Trump controls the Senate, House, Doge, Project 2025 is in the White House, all the branches of the Defense Department, the Attorney General and his offices, six of the nine seats on the Supreme Court, and assigned over 250 Federal judgeships to the Federal courts which are a lifetime appointment. The ONLY thing that is standing in the way of Trump are the Federel judges that actually understand the constitution and do not want to destroy this nation. The fly in the ointment? Courts can issue an order based on the constitution or our laws, but does not have any way to enforce them if Trump should just disregard their order. That is how close we are to a dictatorship.\nWake Up America.?\n P.S. Sorry Canada! Coalesce, find new trade partners, and leave the United States behind. We are no longer worthy of your friendship.

Go Canada! EU will happily take over the trade you had with the US :) Thank you for standing with the Free world ❤\nI know Trudeau was not liked and there's political differences and discontent in other countries as well but damn is it soothing to hear politicians talk with dignity and intelligence, unlike some American top officials right now!

Bro should not cry\nAmerica has spoonfed Canadians \nNow it is their time to stand up on their fuking knees\n\nThis is not trade war\nThis is for creating jobs in America for Americans \nSimple\nGovernor Tuesday or Trudeau

Trudeau was well spoken here. Trump’s trade war is unnecessary and damaging to both countries.

We europeans are threatened in the east by Russia and in the west, incredibly, by the USA (in addition to the trade war with the EU, Trump just a short while ago said he will take Greenland one way or another). And we are threatened commercially by China, which is expanding dangerously in Africa.\nNow, in the face of all this, either we admit our mistakes and look forward, all together we Europeans UNITED (politically, economically and also militarily), otherwise we will be just a side dish to world history for centuries to come.\nI would add, LET US SUPPORT THE ECONOMY AND EUROPEAN COMPANIES. LET'S BUY MADE IN EUROPE, INCLUDING DIGITAL SERVICES!

Make America small again ?? tariffs never create business instead watch how the BRICs countries grow more powerful in trade and economy, and China the Largest Superpower.
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
Make that make sense! I couldn't have said it any better. Trudeau was never my favorite person in politics, but this latest stand against the tyrant that is just south of our great country! His justification for his tariff fantasy is the trade of fentinyl across the border and the flow of illegal immigrants to the U.S. As Trudeau has stated, paraphrasing a well known and respected publication, the Wall Street Journal, that this is a very DUMB move! That is an understatement. This is clearly not about drugs or illegal immigrants, it never was. Trump is supposed to be smart? This latest revelation proves otherwise. Just look at how they treated Zelensky during his last visit to the oval office. That showed a complete lack of respect! I fear we are in for a dismal for years!

US has more money than any other nation so any trade war will simply end in the other nation getting destroyed.

Stay strong Canada. May the trade partnership with the EU grow now so we both can benefit from it. Greetings from the EU

*Not important what Canada says on war,* \nbut *it's important what country says on trade war*
|

The real reason US put tariffs on Canada: \n\nCanada has zero nukes- so they have zero deterrence. The USA has 3,748 nukes.
\nCanada has zero aircraft carriers. The USA has 11 nuclear aircraft carriers. The entire rest of the world has 16, but only one is nuclear.
\nCanada has zero destroyers! The USA has 65 Top Tier destroyers.
\nCanada has only 85 operational fighter jets, but they are outdated and scheduled to be replaced. The USA has 2,740 with 786 being the latest Gen.
\nCanada has 82 Leopard 2 tanks and only some are third Gen. The US has 8,100 tanks and they are all third Gen.
\n2.3 million Canadians own 12 million guns, but many are low caliber and low use/capable. Canadians privately hold about 2.3 Billion rounds of ammo, but most is smaller caliber hunting rounds.
\n81 million Americans own about 400 Million guns with extensive capabilities and usability, including permitted full automatic. The storehouse of privately held ammo is massive in the range of 2 to 25 trillion rounds.
\n40% of Americans are raised in a gun culture and develop and hone their weapon use skills for a lifetime. 22% of Canadians have a similar gun culture.
\n
\nCanada has gotten away with having a weak military and saving enormous costs by not having to produce or buy military equipment. \n\nThe USA has never charged a fee for providing deterrence to potential enemies, and in fact pays Canada on a massive trade deficit instead. Canada exacerbates their precarious situation, by continuing to take guns away from their population.

These are the first steps to ww3. US will invade Canada because of the trade war. Then invade México with the excuse of going after the Cartels. But make no mistake the whole world will not just stand to watch the carnage.

Trump will say Canada shouldn't have start a trade war with USA, like the way he accused of Ukraine starting the war.
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
Wannabe dictator and Putler-loving Trump is insane, picking a trade war with his closest neighbors, allies and friends yet sucking up to and appeasing The Monster From Moscow. America what have you done.
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
I'm from UK and live and work in Hong Kong. All I can say is well spoken Mr Trudeau. Donald is supporting a dictator by allowing him to steal 20% of Ukraine and now destroyed his closest friendships. This is going to be pivotal as the rest of the world trade with each other, form their own co-operation and cease to abide by WTO rules.

How proud he says there are no winners in a trade war, like its a science question and he got the answer right.

Equal trade for both countries, and your words are not enough for your people jobs but American jobs and American workers

What happened to “no wars”? Now we’re in active trade wars? Wild. This is all because we didn’t want an Indian/African American woman in office.
|

As an American getting into a trade war with our neighbors to our north and south makes no sense. Of course Trump is chummy with Vladimir Putin, they're so similar. Both need to be removed from office.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Putin and Russia are no longer the huge superpower they were, look at China, Europe and India all with much greater military and economies than Russia yet Trump is appeasing Putin and fighting its friends and in China it's largest trading partner it is just mad.
|

The craziest thing is that the trade agreements between the USA, Canada and Mexico were signed by Trump during his first term!
|

The point is that it is not a trade war. Is is the war with real camps. Trudeau is in the camp of the ennemy
|

Sadly, I was Very Startled by This Trade War. This is Very Unecessary!!! Canada Is America's Closest Neighbour, How can President Trump even think of doing this to Canada??? I am TREMENDOUSLY DISAPPOINTED with DT!!!!! This is not the way to treat your Neighbour and Allie. Shame . . . Shame . . . . SHAME On Him!!!

The trade deficit between US and Canada is enormous! 420 billion from Canada to US, 65 billion from US to Canada! What's the benefits of putting tariff on US goods boy?!

the countries that are richer in fossil fuels, energy production and materials are always the ones that have the highest chances of winning a trade war, unless there are other countries that can offer the same quantity at lower prices.\nIn the end these costs will always be passed onto the end consumer.\nI think that Donald is not that smart.. He is going to starve his citizens
|

The US has started an unsanctioned trade war against Canada. How is this different than what Russia is doing to Ukraine? The US needs to have sanctions slapped on them by the rest of the world like has been done to Russia.

Such a great alliance ~now falling apart.\nThey defeated evil in WW2 now just fighting over trade tariffs.

In my 60 years of life as a US citizen, I never in a million years thought we would have waged a trade war with Canada. \nCan't wait for the rising costs of the medications that the US from Canada. Buckle up. I can't wait??

I want this trade war, and I want Trudeau gone. I am from Canada. \nSo many people do not know about his government and the damage they caused.\nFacts little then 1% get scanned at ports. Canada does not screen airflights enough. \nAlso, Trudeau did not close the air down from covid to safe borders.\nTrudeau is lucky he is not behind bars the scandals he got away with is insane.

There is no winner in trade war but he will be the first to lose the job sooner for diplomatic failure.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Not only does he have the country fighting for basic life, with all of the unemployment and chaos he’s causing, but now he has us in trade wars with other countries who have basically been on our side!?!? ??♀️
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
This precedented trade war will force other countries to look for another center force that binds the whole allies other than the US. The US is powerful and massive country so it would be difficult to fill the empty spot, but it will be done in the long time.
|

Canadians aren’t stupid we will come ahead of this trade war Donald will bend the knee
|

He can't go into trade war with China but he did with our closest Allie. Is this Elon Musk idea? Because if it is.We are going to be in a sinking ship with lunatic captain
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Remember all the discussions and debate about implementing tariffs on our closest trade partners and allies during the campaigning of the last election. I don’t either…. That must have been discussed on a private call with Putin. Makes no sense otherwise. This is terrible for US end the west overall.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
You suck CNN. Sane-washing a lunatic. He's starting a trade war with his best friend. Think about that. Don't make excuses, don't make apologies. Say it for what it is.

I knew nothing about Canada but it appears I love the Canadians. Maybe you joining the European trade block needn't just be a Twitter idea ?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Many thanks to Trudeau. I just love it, World Democracy Leaders like Trudeau, Macron, Keir Starmer and many more EU leaders will come to the aid of Americans to show just how Corrupt and Deranged Trump is and, he can't threaten or fire them. Trump's actions WILL trigger a unification of EU Countries with Canada and any other country that Trump threatens. Tesla EVs won't be purchased, EU and Canadian Satellites won't be launched by US companies, and you'll see EU and Canadian Defense company R&D funding and sales take-off as new Trade agreements are made between these other countries that Severely hurt the US Economy in numerous ways which, just maybe, some since into the total Nut-Job, Scum-Bag, multi-Felon and Rapist named Donald.

Canadian here. This trade war has nothing to do with fentanyl! Trump wants to take over Canada, and Canadians will not stand for that! We are a sovereign nation and I hope that Americans can understand that we will not tolerate an attack on our country

Canada already had tariffs on certain U.S. goods before the recent trade disputes escalated in 2025. Historically, Canada has maintained tariffs on various American products to protect its domestic industries, particularly in sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. For example, under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (USMCA), which replaced NAFTA and was signed during Donald Trump’s first term, trade between the U.S. and Canada is largely tariff-free for many goods. However, Canada has long imposed high tariffs on specific U.S. products outside of these agreements, such as dairy, poultry, and eggs, under its supply management system. These tariffs can reach up to 270% on milk, 245% on cheese, and nearly 300% on butter, designed to shield Canadian producers from foreign competition.\n\nAdditionally, Canada has applied tariffs on other U.S. goods over the years, often in response to trade disputes or to balance economic interests. For instance, before the latest round of tariffs in 2025, Canada had tariffs on thousands of product categories, though the exact scope and rates varied depending on the goods and trade agreements in place. Posts found on X also highlight sentiment that Canada has had tariffs on U.S. products like dairy and cars for decades, with some claiming rates as high as 25% on U.S. vehicles—though this may reflect specific cases rather than a blanket policy.\n\nIn contrast, the U.S. generally did not impose broad tariffs on Canadian goods until recent actions under President Trump, who introduced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports effective March 4, 2025, prompting Canada to retaliate with reciprocal 25% tariffs on CA$155 billion of U.S. goods. This retaliation built on Canada’s existing tariff framework but escalated the scale significantly. So, while Canada did have tariffs on U.S. goods beforehand, the current trade war has intensified the situation far beyond the pre-existing measures

Canada ?? and Mexico ?? should trade more and just keep United States ?? with minimum trades until a better president takes power in the United States ??
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I'm sure other more friendly countries will continue to trade with Canada, without penalties.\nTrump is not a diplomat, not a statesman, and not really presidential material; the US just didn't have much to choose from.
