Based on all of this, it sounds like you are arguing that capitalism has failed in Canada. Corporations have built huge monopolies and are gouging Canadians, and investors are buying up every home/condo they can, instead of letting average people buy them up. It also sounds like you're arguing that the government hasn't done enough to stop it. \n\nCanada certainly has its share of issues, but I don't agree with the tone of this, which is mostly Conservative Party talking points. If they were running things, they'd have let mergers go on and signed bad trade deals with countries, just like they did between 2006 and 2015. The Liberals have made a lot of mistakes, but they also weathered the largest financial and health crisis in the last hundred years. I'm not sure what the fix is, but arguing that the Conservatives would have done any better is specious.

I had a primary care Dr. here in the US who went to Medical School in Canada and practiced in Ontario until he immigrated to the US in the mid 1980's. He said the same things about wait times for specialist medical care. Sounds like not much has changed between then and now...

I understand this is an economics channel, but saying that NO ONE wants to live in Canada because of 3 issues with the economy that most developed countries in the world are dealing w/ is kinda stupid (It's almost like most of the world is in a recession.?) A lot of this data is straight-up wrong or twisted in a way as to be really misleading. The whole video is just full of inconsistencies and is overall extremely critical of Canada to the point of making it sound like a terrible place to live. Based on the information you guys are providing, it seems like it's a simple issue of landlords in Canada trying to exploit people by preventing more housing from being built. I understand that an increase in immigrants makes the housing market more competitive, but it sounds like corrupt government officials are taking bribes from landlords to make Canada a worse place for everyone.\n\nMoreover, it's funny that he only uses Vancouver and Toronto to illustrate how expensive Canada is when there are other places to live in the country. You can buy housing for $20,000 for a 3-bedroom house if you simply choose not to live in one of the most populated cities in Canada. What a joke.

28-year-old Female Sydneysider from Australia here. Apologise in advance for the long post and rambling.\n\n\nNot sure if it is just me, so please correct me if I am wrong. Just probably now too overly 'realistically too cynical'. So please take my input with a grain of salt. 

For context’ sake, for most of my adulthood I have always been poor & I am born with special health needs (E.g. disabilities).
\n\n\nSometimes on forums we are often contrasted to Canada, for some reason. Both Canada and Australia have remarkably similar problems with a different coat of paint. Sydney, for instance, has always been high up in the list of the cities with the highest cost of living in the world. Usually within the top 10-20. 

COVID-19 obviously made this issue clearer in some circumstances because we couldn't 'work' at all. Unless you were an essential service worker, to mentally block out personal and local difficulties.\n\n\nWe still have not recovered from that 2–3 years global shutdown. The only reason I was allowed to work for a period was because I work for the animal industry and aid in animal welfare. 

I still lost my job due to COVID-19 regardless and knew I would never get a decent job again. Merely just the last poor sod on the boat to be thrown off. 

Could not become a vet nurse despite working very hard. Just because no one wants to give me '2-years permanent paid experience’ to be taken seriously. 

At the same time, way too many employers will happily take 2+ years of veterinary students volunteering at their vet clinic. With the vague promise of a permanent job.

Which, of course, never happens, then say we are being too demanding or spoilt for politely asking for said job.\n\n\nHow are we supposed to pay off our student debt if any financial service expects us to have a per meant job to pay anything off??

 No, they do not want to train nor help you. They just want free labour, then kick you out once your time is up. All my jobs have been casual, and my animal industry has already become heavily casual based ages ago. The younger adults and kids all know and have been aware for years, they have no future at all due to having an inflated cost of living. Sugar-coating it, saying it might go in a positive direction, sounds like a blatant lie. We all know it is a lie.\n\n\nNowadays, in contrast to the late nineties and early 2000s when I was just a tiny naive kid that didn't know any better. There seems to be a more jarring split between the income brackets of what the country assumes who is poor, middle class or rich today. 

\n\nBy today's standards, my family is no longer even considered close to the very lower end of the middle class if you were reaching hard. We are considered 'poor' just because my parents do not earn roughly $50,000 — $150,000 AUD a year on their own in 2023. Very confused on the goal of immigration in Canada. I hear my Canadian accountant counterparts have way lower wages and much higher competition for the same jobs. It sounds like a nightmare. That’s with is here in the US being upset about our wages.

Nice video. I watched it as I like to learn from other perspectives.\n\nI was born in Toronto, and I must say, this “no time for life and fun” is a new thing. This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Artists and musicians help make a city great, but many cannot afford to live here.\n\nFamilies and communities staying together means more support for those with young kids and older relatives when they need help. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. That sounds very insincere!! \nYou probably have never been to an emergency, like NYGH, where instead of the nursing staff, they have there trained jail and security guards to deal with sick people. I have recently come across the case of a young Irish woman with a brain tumour currently living in Canada and whose treatment by the Canadian public health system has been frankly shocking. I live in Britain and over the last few years, there have been increasingly negative reports coming out of Canada, in particular regarding its lax immigration system; its encouragement of Third World migrants; adoption of multiculturalism and an illiberal liberalism which has seen conservative figures like Dr Jordan Peterson bullied and professionally sidelined. It sounds like a lot pf the blame can be laid at the door of its virtue-signalling, narcissistic prime minister, Justin Trudeau. Tragic that yet another great society built by Europeans is now in the process of being dismantled.

I moved from a third world country 3 years ago and planning to move back because somehow as crazy as it sounds Canada seems like a downgrade. No matter how Poor I was in South America I was always able to afford rent and groceries. Here, it’s one or the other.

I would hope you could find happiness in Canada. One of my concerns about living in a theocratic country would always be, is this choice really your own? Can you ever be certain, if faced with violations of your rights, that the choice is really yours? And, if not, can you consider yourselves as choosing Islam, rather than being forced into it, even if in absence of theocratic rule, you would have chosen it anyways? Maybe I’m overthinking it. I have the tendency to do that. I think if I were Muslim, I might choose Tunisia. I’ve known people from Tunisia and it sounds like they’re pretty open-minded, but still obviously predominantly Muslim. I’ve been to Dubai, and while I see many people recommending it, I honestly thought it was the worst combination of East and West. All the commercialization of the West, but none of the democracy. Plus, if you are not native Emiratis, you will always be second class. I’m from the US in what I think is the mini-Canada (ok, the Twin Cities) and we have a big Muslim community, but I’m very concerned Trump will win again in 2024, and I don’t know what will come of it. My daughter is part Afghani, but raised Catholic because her father’s side is irreligious. But I still worry for her, looking like she does and carrying that last name. People are so awful.
