I came in Canada in 1997. The rent was so low and anybody can own a car even if your wage is not that high. Starting in 2016, all of a sudden house prices ballooned! The rent skyrocketed. It's hard to own a car today. Owning a car today would cost you around at least $850 a month(car monthly payment, insurance, gas, maintenance)

Absolutely not !!!\n However, corruption and mismanagement is eating 60-70 % of Canada's revenues\n As an Example : Canadian oil is giving away to American companies almost for free in return of of a royalty fee 3-5% , so, American sell our crude for $100 per barrel but Canada gets only $5 from this $100 , same thing is happening in our mining industries : Gold , Copper, Uranium. \nBecause, Canada DOES not have enough refineries to produce its gas it needs therefore, it has to buy it from USA at a market price !!!\n Canadian electricity is more worse, Qc sells its electricity To USA at 3cents per KWH\nthen Ontario buys it from USA at market price 50-75 cent per KWH\nCanadians are ripped off : for every Dollar the government gives to a special needs or welfare candidate, the government spend $10-$20 to manage this ONE Dollar, things are more worse with natives : the government spend $20 to $30 to manage each Dollar a native candidate gets !!!!!\n Probably !!!!!! Now , You know the reasons behind Canadian 's poverty symptoms including homelessness !!!!!

I moved to England this year and it costs a lot more to live than Canada. I don’t know what Canadians are complaining about. I already regret leaving Canada! Gas prices here are like 290.4 and a 1 bedroom apartment for $2,800/month but it is also London and London’s expensive.

UPDATE: Halifax (NS in general) is now unaffordable and the salaries have not aligned with the price increases. Food, gas, and the housing market have essentially doubled in price (seemingly overnight) and the population more than doubled so there are new condo buildings built everywhere with rent averaging $2500+ per month for a 2 bedroom. A house that used to cost $300K, is now closer to $700K. For the first time ever, there are homeless people living in their cars or in tents. The only thing that has stayed the same is the beautiful landscape.

If we didnt have idiot trudo & his insane climate policies we would have developed our oil & gas resources & would be exporting from both coasts to help europe get off russian supply & help asia get off dirty coal, lower global energy prices especially domestic reducing mass inflation & we would have billions more for our beloved social programs

I take my pet to the vet in the US because the price in Canada is insane. Pets are not covered for health care and they really ding you for something as simple as dental work on a dog. It was going to cost us $1500 to have my pet’s teeth PULLED in Canada and it was only $500 in the US. A significant difference! So that is one positive thing about the US that is better than Canada. Also US turkeys are cheaper and juicier than in Canada. It has always been a tradition to get turkeys, cheese, milk, shoes, different flavoured chips, and gas when we cross over. Lol! After visiting the US regularly and vacationing, I do love Canada better because of Health Care. It is a big deal. You folks in the US should be fighting harder for it since it is the norm in Canada and the UK. Yes, we really pay for it in our taxes, but you don’t feel it as much if something bad happens.

As a Kenyan American I can definitely relate to this video. Things have gotten really expensive here and people are deciding between buying necessities and being without, rent has sky rocketed, food and gas(petro) prices are ridiculous, coming with the right visa is important. A lot of agencies have been bringing Kenyan trained nurses here and they are very happy, green card lottery is another option. To avoid stress use the channels I listed above.

I have lived in Ottawa for over 30 years, and we have many of the same problems outlined as in Toronto, especially when it comes to housing prices, and heating and air conditioning and gas and groceries....I have a very good job, but can't imagine maintaining any quality of life here post retirement. Personally, I am looking to spend my twilight years in Colombia where life is better for a fraction of the price.

I'm not sue what most of you are talking about Canada being safe ?? Gang shootings and killings everyday , car jackings. There are homeless camps everywhere. All the rest stops along hwy 1 in BC are full of people living in rv's and trailers, drug use everywhere. Our health care is free because its terrible. Every hospital is badly understaffed, patients have their beds in hallways. If you want anything done quickly you have to pay and get it done privately anyways. Oh cant forget our taxes. Gotta love the made up carbon tax. I pay 52% income tax. Food and gas prices are way higher because of all our tax. And last but not least real estate and rent cost. Average detached house in the greater Vancouver area is almost 1.3 million dollars and the average rent for a 2 bedroom in Vancouver is $3900. I was born and raised here this is not the same country I grew up in and was a proud citizen of. Our country has fallen.

As a Saudi who has studied in Canada I feel very sad for all my Canadian friends. Saudia was a good friend of Canada and would have helped with gas and petrol prices, but Trudeau started the beef with Saudia. I hope things get better soon.

Thanks for the very informative video. I just got back from a week in Vancouver and saw so many drug addicts and homeless people when I drove through East Vancouver on my way to Gastown. Years ago when I drove this same area, I didnt see this problem. What the heck happened? Is the U.S. rubbing off in Canada. Crime, drugs, homeless people, and criminals seem to have migrated from the U.S. to Canada. Anyway, I was contemplating buying a house in Coaquitlam and retiring there for 6 months out if every year. Now, my eyes are open to what it would really be like. Still better than the U.S., crime wise, but the prices are high. Gas equivalent was $7.50 PER gallon. Food was more. Walmart was more. Starting January 1, 2023 no foreigner can buy property in Canada for 2 years.

Hmm I wonder why difficult technical jobs are relatively low paying in Canada. Oh right because you're in competition with the entire world, not just other Canadian citizens born and raised in Canada. Canada is effective subsidized the whole world and artificially lowering their own employment standards. As sad as it sounds, there will always be someone talented from a developing nation willing to do your very difficult job which you studied years to be able to do, for barely above the cost of living, because this is still better than their career and life trajectory in their own nation. How many big tech firms in the US have fired thousands of US employees in austerity moves, only then to apply for H1B visa a week later. Why educate, train, employ, and pay fairly American workers, when you can find an immigrant willing to do it for half the price. I'm pro immigration and even pro high special immigration, but the cutoff for H1B visa salaries should be 50% higher than prevailing wages in similar roles. If this position is so specialized and in demand that there simply aren't enough native populations available to do it and schools simply aren't training it, then supply and demand homie, go pay for it. Oil, gas, and petroleum engineering is a great example of this - the US barely teaches this anymore despite there being demand, so we have to hire foreign nationals. Engineering and medicine are examples of oligarchs finding ways to extract the most capital by exploiting people as much as possible. Why pay a reasonable wage for really difficult jobs, when you can find a foreigner willing to do it for barely enough to cover groceries and rent.

I wish Canada did more R&D. We have the talent and brains to be innovative, yet so many of us go work in the oil & natural gas sector because it pays handsomely.\nAlso to live in the most scenic provinces like BC and Ontario is crazy expensive. We moved from AB to BC in 2009 which my parents bought their house for $550,000 that's situated 40km East of Vancouver, and today their house is valued at 1.4 million... almost 3 times the original purchase price in just over a decade. Now an adult, my wife and I were forced to move back to Alberta and leave our families because we simply cannot afford to rent there nor ever have an honest shot at saving enough money to buy our own place. It is what it is and I'm sure it's a common theme that's not only exclusive to Canada, but man, it does sucks. I'm happy for any immigrants to move here and call Canada their home too, but many are loaded with money and purchase numerous properties just to then rent it out at an absurd rate because they can. It's fueling the problem worst and making it unfair for the born & raised Canadians.

After watching this video if you think that what is going on in Canada is not crazy, then take note of the fact that Trudeau government is also making it even harder for gas and oil companies, mineral extraction and even farmers to basically do their job. While Norway, Arab countries and even US are ramping oil and gas production, in Canada Trudeau is concerned more about increasing carbon tax and the rainbow flags. Honestly I'm very disappointed in this country, it's becoming worse and worse here. Prices are through the roof, housing is insanely expensive, even car prices are higher than in USA. Many people have to maintain 2 or even 3 jobs just to survive. And if you are a recent graduate or an immigrant professional, good luck finding a good job. You probably will end up in a minimum wage job that barely allows you to rent a room in someone's basement, pay for your most expensive in the world cell phone plan, expensive cars.... and wait 6 months to go see a medical specialist. If you're thinking of immigrating to Canada, better consider Europe, USA or developed countries in Asia. I was lucky because I bought property back in 2016. The wage of a miner in the US is $38,000 p.a. and they have to live on site permanently. I'm sure you know all the stuff about employment conditions, healthcare and crime over there but Canada is a different proposition. Work in Oil & Gas in Canada can be good but I remember when the oil price sank and a lot of it became unprofitable, a lot of Aussies were the first to lose their jobs over there and had to come back. The cold will also be another interesting factor. Sincerely wish you the best though and that you end up somewhere where you feel happy. I beg to differ. A ranch the size of a mansion in Texas is less than half the price of a mediocre home in Montreal. And no income tax in many states. Are you kidding me? And I am not even touching the car market and gas...I lived in both US and Canada and all I can say life is cheaper in the US. Unless you live in Cali. Cali is a country of idiots of its own. Texas Arizona, New Hampshire and many more are better places to live than Toronto or Vancouver

sAs someone who has experienced living in both America and Canada. One thing I think Aba and Preach forgot to mention is the cost of produce. In Canada and more specifically Montreal the cost of Produce is higher than anywhere else in north America (From my limited experience). A Block of cheese costs a tank of gas. I have lived in a few places around the world and I have to say the cost of food for whatever reason is so much higher in Quebec. Items can easily be twice the price here.

im from newfoundland. i can say that the weather is quite bad,but the people here are real nice and our accents are hillarious to other provinces,we have strength but not so much intelligence. we also have one of the few viking settlements in north america,lanse aux meadows. aswell as a supposed viking location known as point rosee. also i should mention that newfoundland is incredibly historical just to list a few things we have:beothuks,viking settlements,4 different anscestors being france england scotland and ireland hints the hillarious accent,we also have lots of prehistoric fossils dating all the way back to 570 million bc,we also were the place that started and was one of the main reasons the french and indian/seven year war was formed,oh and dont even get me started on how much resources we have. in total we have 60 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and so much wind you could probably power all of america using windmills from newfoundland. but i dont advise you live here,its more of a historian/paleontologists dream to visit this place overall on a scale without any biasty i rate nefoundland and labrador a solid 7/10 for its amount of good jobs but its high gas prices,bad premier,bad weather,freezing tempatures,sparse and rugged land,no biodiversity and a it being a good spot for a country to invade if going to war.its not looking good for newfoundland and labrador,ESPECIALLY NEWFOUNDLAND

Well, I guess that most families from Asian counties live together and share space so they will be able to afford homes. I guess that we should educate Canadians that they should not expect to be able to afford rent or owning a home unless you stay with your family and all live together. See, problem solved. I’m from the Cayman Islands. Our cost of living is high and we don’t have free health care. Our car insurances are super high you can go to our supermarket to buy bread a bottle of juice a pre made lasagna (that you just throw in the oven) and easily spend 47 dollars. Our gas prices are currently 7.50 per gallon. My family and I are considering making the move to Canda I do appreciate your advice and your options thank you for that. But trust me you want to feel high cost of living come to cayman ! ?

Don't come to USA its the same way but worse. The rent is very high. I can save you a trip. I was born and raised here in USA. Texas and Las Vegas would be good for you two. But people work like dogs with no benefits in Vegas. Only a few Jobs have benefits. I lived there. Also do your research here. Food prices, gas, housing is expensive. . I hate Quebec. I felt very unaccepted by the people who live there. I would go into restaurants and gas stations and when I didn't speak French the workers would speak very aggressive and disrespectful. I try to avoid Quebec whenever possible. Not to mention the drivers are terrible. Overall I would probably move to Alberta, since Ontario house prices are high.
