Iceland and Australia feel like home. Hungary, Vietnam, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria are wonderful places to live for a couple of years. Beautiful countries that are falling out are Sweden, Argentina, Thailand, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Canada, the US, and France.

Canada was nice in the 70s, but when they started selling citizenship back in the 80s, it was just a matter of time before the country became unrecognizable. You can't sell national pride and social order.

This man crossed through several countries before arriving in North America. By law he should be deported to one of those countries where he changed planes or travelled through. He has ZERO right to be in Canada or North America . . . using a fringe community to exploit a loophole in the law is an abomination. I think some people blame 'Canada' for their own inability to deal with their own personal issues. It's an awesome country. If someone can't see how lucky they are to live here then by all means leave. I guarantee the new perspective will enlighten you.

I live in the US but I really want to visit Canada! Some people do wear their shoes in the house in America as I’ve seen it but I can’t stand putting shoes up on furniture, especially my bed! To me, that’s disgusting. I’m glad most Canadians don’t do that!

I immigrated to Canada in 1992 from Eastern Europe and had job in high tech which enabled me to move to US in 1998. \nEven though I went back on occasions to Canada to visit friends, had no idea that things changes for worst so much over years. I saw cost of living and housing going up there, but after reading comments here honestly I am in shock. My wife always regretted leaving Canada which we used to call our second home, but after reading here we seem made a right decision back then…

But its not great, and it hasn't been great in a long time, everything went down la toilette after 2001, and here we are, it should never be a difficult decision, most Canadians are brainwashed into thinking its a great place. Most Canadians are terrified to step out into the unknown, so like a caged bird, it prefers the caged life. If you ACTUALLY leave Canada, you'll feel the weight literally lift off. I remember a much different country growing up.\n\nToday, our government has become sclerotic, especially under Justin. Our economy is much weaker. Our foreign relations with China (my parents' home country) are in the toilet. And we recently gave a standing ovation to a Nazi war criminal in Parliament. What the f--- is going on???

I have a similar background as I immigrated to Canada when I was 6 years old. I haven't travelled across 50 countries like Alina but I'm well travelled and Canada is still, in my opinion, the best country in the world. Besides the strong passport and political stability Alina mentioned, Canadians also benefit from the great healthcare system, environmental protections, capital markets, educational system, labour standards, etc. This country has afforded me a wonderful career that allowed me to build wealth while giving me substantial financial flexibility and freedoms. Canada is not perfect but I'm so grateful to my parents for moving us here.

it's NOT free, after all taxes combined on an annual basis I'm paying around 60% taxes, carbon taxes, pst, gst, luxury taxes on cars over 50 k, all manner of hidden taxes, no health care is definitely not free. My health care plan in the US was 155 a month, my share, employer paid the rest, a good plan. But I took home 22% more of my income, which is massive on an annual basis, I was very rich down there, coming back to Canada it's sad, give the government all that money for what exactly? Can't think of one thing I ask the government for, but you know I'm self reliant, so self reliant people don't thrive in Canada. If I had lived in the US my whole life, same job/income I would be living a life multiples better than Canada.

I agree, if you don't like it here, you should leave. However, the challenges we face in Canada are not unique to our country. It's easy to believe the grass is greener elsewhere, but I'm willing to accept both the good and the bad, and I haven't lost hope that we can fix Canada from within. Of course, this requires believing that change is possible and being willing to contribute in any way you can. Frankly, I find your attitude defeatist. You're happy to enjoy the good times, but as soon as things get rough, you're ready to leave. It makes me wonder if our current situation isn't partly due to people's unwillingness to do more than complain and run away when things get tough.

I'm amazed by the check list that goes on in people's minds. You can't predict the future and even your Soviet union stopped at 5 year plans. I left Canada on a whim in 1994. I never thought I couldn't come back if I wanted or needed to. My bet is you met a guy in Serbia (let's say) and want to be in a reasonable place where it's financially possible to build a home and start a family. Most(80% or more) of people in Canada are immigrants. Europeans, Asians, Africans, etc, so it’s laughable when some people say immigration is the problem of Canada. \nThe real issue was COVID. It strained the economy of Canada and most other countries. Also, many of the countries are sending a huge amount of money to Ukraine, Israel, Palestine and Russia, as they are at war.

I was a soldier, was deployed and thought I was fighting for Canadian values. Now I sit at home and watch as my country crumble down around me. I'm a wounded/mildly disabled Vet. I got wounded again back in Canada by getting my leg stabbed/slashed. I waited 4 years for imaging, and routinely have to wait 2 weeks to see a doctor for a 5 minute visit. Bombed-out roads in Syria are no worse than the pothole-infested streets. Under the streets, we have failing water mains.\nOur current government has no compass, we have no direction and our priorities are random and trivial. I have started referring to our country as Can'tada due to the seemingly endless things we can't seem to do.

I'm sorry, I get that Canada is crazy expensive but your lifestyle is very expensive. Everything is a choice and you choose to travel and live in a very expensive city. I moved here in 2016 I and my husband had full-time jobs and we saved most of it, now we own our house and next year are going on our first vacation.

I've just been to Canada twice (one month apiece) as a tourist: I was really unimpressed.
