I immigrated to Canada in 2010, and here are my experiences inside and outside Canada. I am grateful for a good education; having a Canadian passport opened up many opportunities in other countries to build a higher-level career. However, if I had known the amount of stress, health, and financial damage that I had to endure, I wouldn't have chosen to come to Canada. I would have remained in the US or EU countries where I could achieve even more without suffering to the level I did here. \n\nMisleading immigration promotion: The government-sponsored Canadian immigration program oversells what Canada can offer. It withholds information on the cost of living, chicken-and-egg problems like Canadian work experience is required to get a job at the same level as you are in, Canadian credit history is required to rent a proper apartment, Canadian education is required to secure a high-level job, etc. \n\nHiring process: I knew the Canadian system was not ideal for immigrants over a decade ago, but it got so bad now that even the born citizens are unable to survive. The Canadian government and employers lack a basic understanding that ambitious, high-achieving people immigrate to other countries for high-level positions using proper channels. It's ridiculous to see that Canada uses a point-based system to choose highly qualified personnel to enter their country yet expects them to pursue low-paying entry-level or labor jobs just because they have brown/black skin. At first, I thought having a Canadian degree and experience might help me get high-level jobs, and I didn't think how I spoke or looked would matter when I had high credentials to show off. So, I got my masters & Ph.D. from the Univesity of Toronto, which consistently ranks #1 in Canada. I have a bachelor's from a prestigious university in Asia and had a high-competitive, well-paid federal government job in another country. Still, none of that was recognized in Canada, and I had to volunteer for over 6 months, 10 to 12 hours/day, in a research lab that led to a funded PhD program. I worked even harder during my Ph.D. with many accomplishments, like 40+ research and leadership awards, internationally recognized scientific discoveries, and innovative technologies. I checked all the above and beyond in various domains (research, teaching, leadership, business, engineering consulting, collaborations, etc.). Yet, employers couldn't see past my race, gender, age, etc., and refused to give me the opportunity at the level of my qualifications. Luckily, I managed to secure short-term work in the UK & the US, and it changed even how I see myself. I was highly respected for my credentials, given higher positions than I applied for, and paid 3-4 times more salary and benefits. Of course, bias is an integral part of every society, but my race, gender, age, etc., were not as big of an issue to begin my career at the mid-career stage in these countries as opposed to Canada. \n\nHealthcare: Access to healthcare was another big challenge for me. When I moved to Canada in 2010, due to extremely low temperatures, I developed hives all over my body, my eyes got red, and I coughed for many months. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with me and refused to give me any medication. It took us years to get a family doctor, and we got one through my personal network. In 2015/2016, I developed an autoimmune disease, and my eyeballs popped out. As of today, I did not get to see an eye specialist as they have only 1 specialist in the area, and the waiting time is for years for the first consultation. Every time the family doctor told me that I had iron deficiency, even when I insisted that they should run additional tests and they cleared, they were flagged. The doctor never diagnosed my autoimmune condition. Luckily, during my short-term work in the UK, I saw competent interns who completed my care. NHS is poorer than the medical system in Canada... they are understaffed, don't have hospital beds after surgery, or don't have stock of paper gowns, yet the staff are highly competent and caring. Within 1-2 years, they did complete diagnosis by sending me to various specialists, completed eye surgery, and even found a lifelong condition that was preventing me from realizing my full potential. Following, in the US, the doctors confirmed the diagnosis of all the conditions within 1-2 months and put me on two small pills for life. It has dramatically changed my life, and I have even more admiration for the medical profession. While in Canada, I suffered for over a decade, and every time, I was treated as a hypochondriac and never given a single prescription. \n\nQuality of life: Big cities like Toronto are mainly affected by high crime rates, overpopulation, cost of living, low employment, low salaries, etc. A few months back, there was a huge auto theft, and one of my contacts lost their Lexus car within minutes of parking. Despite being a scientist, I have no faith in politicians or individuals fixing these problems. The salaries are not increasing, but the taxes and cost of living are on the exponential growth curve. The ridiculous part is that Canada expects you to pay taxes even when you are not employed or living in Canada! I lived in London and Boston, and they offer a much higher quality of life and pay. \n\nGrowth potential: No wonder Canada, being a G7 country, falls at the bottom of the list in innovation, equal opportunities, economic growth, etc. It has a decent education system but, due to its inherent bias in the hiring process and monopoly of certain businesses, loses talented immigrants and highly qualified Canadians to the US, the UK, and EU markets. Unless there is a dramatic shift in policies, Canadians, especially new immigrants, cannot expect any positive experience in Canada except for being discriminated against and losing valuable time and money by being there.

There’s nothing stopping young Canadian people from studying in India, working part time jobs and accessing their food banks.

It should have been condemned and contained immediately. Muslims who pride themselves as followers of a peaceful religion should have empathized and consoled the grieving Jews. \n\nThere was a lot of time to do this. There was a lengthy delay between the attack and Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza. Instead of taking this time to condemn Hamas’s slaughter, Arab and Muslim politicians and government leaders promoted anti-Jewish hate to shore up their political support. This is nothing less than encouraging antisemitism. \n\nMuslim political and religious leaders, barring rare exceptions, chose to contextualize, equivocate and, in most cases, justify Hamas’s barbarity. What we have, as a result, is widespread hate bordering on violence in Canada — a country where communities have historically lived side-by-side in peace. \n\nThe situation got worse due to the statements made by community leaders like Amira Elghawaby, Canada’s special representative on combating Islamophobia, who did not hide her partisan and divisive outlook by clearly siding with the protesters on Canadian streets, characterizing them as “peaceful demonstrations,” even though we have seen people supporting Hamas, calling for genocide against Israeli Jews and harassing and intimidating Jewish-owned businesses. \n\nOn Twitter, Elghawaby approvingly cited a quote from a Toronto Star column reading, “The stories I have heard are both fantastical and true. Muslims (and others who silently sympathize with the loss of Palestinians lives) are being disciplined, maligned, isolated and targeted at work.” \n\nInstead of reaching across the aisle and consoling the Jewish community, she has instead chosen to focus her public comments on rising Islamophobia. \n\nSeriously? Remember the Muslim family who were killed in a hate-related attack in London, Ont., a couple years ago? All communities, including the Jewish community, across the political and religious spectrum unambiguously condemned that hate crime. And it brought a sense of relief and security to Muslims in Ontario. \n\nRemember how, after more that 50 people were gunned down while worshipping at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, political and religious leaders from all faiths stood behind Muslims and consoled them? \n\nAlso, after the Quebec mosque attack, almost all communities in Canada chose to stand with Muslims. There were images of people in Alberta who formed a human chain to protect Muslims. Similar scenes were witnessed elsewhere in the country. Jewish community leaders spoke out, loud and clear, in support of Muslims and against hate and bigotry. \n\nBut that is not what Elghawaby did. Instead, she makes it sounds as though it is Muslims who are the victims, while failing to mention the barbarity unleashed on Oct. 7. This is not leadership. This is not her mandate. Her job is to promote tolerance as enshrined in Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. \n\nNow imagine a scenario in which Muslims did what they ought to have done in the first place: condemned the Hamas attack, sided with the Jewish victims and dissociated themselves from terrorism. Spot on. Moving to Canada was the worst mistake of my life. I wish that I could go back in time and get all the years and resources that I have invested into settling here... Canada has had a great PR internationally, and Canadians are too polite to complain, so I had to learn it on my own after moving. Good that the truth is finally coming out. Everything here is deteriorating FAST.

What has happened in Canada is actually quite simple. Companies sell products and services. Companies require employees in order to sell those products and services. The difference between what the companies can those products and services for and what they pay the employees is profit. The owners of the companies want to maximize this profit, therefore want to pay employees as little as possible. Scarcity is labour is one of the driving factors behind what employees are paid. One way to decrease scarcity of labour is to bring in massive amounts of immigrants. That is exactly what Canada has been doing for decades. The owners of the companies take profits and invest it in real estate. This makes real estate unaffordable for the employees whose wages have been suppressed. Lower wages also means less money from taxes available for services like health care. We allowed our politicians to be bribed into allowing massive levels of immigration. Stagnant wage growth resulted in lowered consumptive capacity in the economy. This lead to stagnant economic activity and lowered investment into things that would make the Canadian economy more productive. What we have now is unaffordable housing. Lack of jobs. A failing health care system. An educational system where the bar was lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Increased crime and substance abuse resulting from the subsequent hopelessness. Several families living in a single house. People working several low paying jobs just to try to get by. People with full-time jobs that are forced to choose between being homeless or starving to death. The immigrants that are still coming here are sleeping on the sidewalk in front of homeless shelters, or maybe scraping by delivering UberEats.

Canada has been sold from us Canadians by our greedy politicians and corporate interests. This idea that Canada just needs to build more homes is insane. There are millions of new immigrants, student visas, and illegal borders crossings every year. Most of Canada is desolate frozen tundra, rocky mountain, bog, dense forest, and the few spots where the weather is moderate everyone wants to live. People dont want more homes to be built because we can already barely drive anywhere due to traffic congestion, no one has doctors anymore, water restrictions start in early spring, no room for kids in schools. Everything is over crowded and over priced because theres way too many people here in a short amount of time and the infrastructure isnt close to being able to support it. The only ones benefitting from these out of control immigration practices are multi national corporate interests looking for a large cheap labour pool.

Many recent immigrants I have known have left Canada because the cost of living is too high. From my experience they work very hard, usually working 60+ hours a week. After some time they crunch the numbers and realize no matter how hard they try they will not get anywhere so they leave. For those born in Canada we find ourselves being chased out of our hometowns because it is too expensive to live there. For myself it was either stay in Vancouver, surrendering more than half of your income to rent or move out of the city to buy an apartment. In the major cities there is a mass exodus of young people and the strategy has been to replace that exodus with immigration. The problem is that is not sustainable as now new immigrants, seeking a better life are not finding it in major Canadian cities. For those who already own property in the lower mainland the selfish mentality is to do whatever you can to deny construction, thus maintaining the scarcity and value of what little land/housing there is in desirable areas. Zoning laws are beginning to change but progress is slow and municipalities have failed to keep up with infrastructure so the growing pains is going to be immense. It's beautiful here now doubt but if I had no ties and a solid financial footing I would have left long ago. Generations ago you could show up to Canada with no money and thrive if you were willing to work hard. Now hard work won't get you anything.

With Trudeau's communist style it's not just new Canadians leaving, but folks that are 5 generation citizen. The corruption by the Liberal party, the inflation caused by Trudeau's deficits and printing of money are factors, but the communist style of jailing peaceful protestor, ceasing bank accounts and infringement of freedoms is a bigger factor for me. We have moved over 90% of our wealth outside of Canada and spend very little time there.

Our government looks after immigrants BETTER than its own CITIZENS! ????\nFor ex. ppl who have been homeless for yrs R sleeping on the street, in tents, parks, cars etc. They receive NO help! \nYET IMMIGRANTS R getting into shelters! Like WTF?!! ? Some arrived here (in summer) with NO housing (which is ASS BACKWARDS ~ Y R U bringing ppl here when there R NO places for US to live let alone immigrants??!!) & they were sleeping in the streets/parks. Our Govt moved mountains to find THEM shelters in relatively record time but have done NOTHING to help CANADIANS who R ALREADY homeless (A LOT of them R homeless bc of cost of housing & NOT ALCOHOL/DRUG ABUSE!) Most ppl assume it’s bc of drug addiction. Im about to move from the USA to Canada, my type of visa here denies me to have a stable normal life for many reasons, also many of the issues that canadians face are the same than americans does, I belive if you try to live in Vancouver or Toronto you can not expect to save a lots of money, Im moving to a Rural very turistic area, I will have employee housing and I belive ill be able to survive and save money, not like here ofc, but I will have a more stable life in many different aspects, Im a chef so for me its normal to work long shifts which provides me of food most of the time. I still hope that I will be very happy.

Trudeau has brought in millions of refugees from countries with violent cultures and religions. There is a reason it’s been going downhill for 5 years now. Old time Canadians are just sick of what is happened to their once safe and prosperous country. Justin is largely to blame.

As a Canadian, I would not move to the states. But that being said I would love to spend a lot more time visiting state side. My GF is a US citizen but she want to move here to Canada while her children want to stay state side.

Im a proud Canadian, born and raised. But I'm NOT proud that the way things are becoming too damn expensive. The fact that even 2 income families are barely getting by speaks volumes.\n\nNot a terrible thing -- a blessing in disguise actually -- but it's now becoming the norm that adults are moving back in with their parents just to save up. But at least, even if you have a family of your own, the parents will have more time to spend with their grandchildren.

The longer you live in canada and pay taxes the more you should be rewarded, but like cell phone companies the liberals treat new citizens and refugees better than veterans and born Canadian, so if immigrants think it's bad imagine if you were born here and the mass immigration just made it ten times worse.

Basically, Canada decided to wear shoes way bigger than its size. Accommodating so many immigrants without any robust planning and management was a gamble that backfired the country. While i understand a country with a weak demography requires young population to contribute ti fuel its economic engine, lack of job creation and superficially overpriced real estate are the ticking time bombs waiting to go off and go beyond control soon. \nOne thing that continues to amaze me is the tolerance and acceptance of Canadians towards failed policies of its government. I call BS on that. All this immigration and I still can't find a decent woman? If it is so bad, I can alleviate the part where there are single women looking for a place to stay, a few times over. Want to start a family, beam me up. I'm a strong worker, biblically inclined - a pious man, our children would not require schooling because I am smarter than public school teachers by a long shot but I am not a money worshiper; that is what Canadian women want, tall with money; hoping to find a different heart from another nation; one that is not corrupt with dogs and tattoos.

My neighborhood had a big influx of immigrants moving in and I can see the difference they brought, they never cut grass, leave garbage out on lawn, they use the creeks as their own waste dump they give off looks at you like you're a problem in your own country, they stare in a very creepy manor at women, I had one stand at the end of my driveway and film my house, like just weird shit all the time. Not to mention there always seems to be like 12 of them living in a basment apartment, half probably cant speak english or even have a legit reason to be in Canada, then you see them bagging for money and its like why are they even here if you cant afford to live here? \nImmigration at this point is an insult to Canadians and to the ones who legally immigrated and wanted to be apart of canadian culture.

With homelessness and food bank visits at an all time high in Canada illegal immigration certainly should be the last thing we are focused on but do you think the Canadian media would dig into it and ask the difficult questions from thos government!!

I think the Canadian expierence is total BS. If you have skillset from a foreign country that is same skillset in Canada it should be recognized immediately. No wonder why Canada has shortages of skilled workers, its because of this BS. Having to waste time in re-education and the time spent getting cdn working experience (aka cheap labor).

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become the North Korea of the western world.\n\nTheir are many reasons why Canada has fallen apart. But the number one reason is ‘multiculturalism’. My friends, multiculturalism simply does not work. Different cultures do not come together and mix, different cultures come together and clash. The world is divided into different countries for a reason: because people hate each other and only want to be with their own kind. The number two reason for Canada’s demise is ‘socialism’. In this modern era of aging populations, it is mathematically impossible for socialism to continue. The government does not have the money to take care of old people and provide healthcare, pensions and the various other benefits, even with the astronomical taxation that burdens hard working Canucks. Well Canada, you had a good run. Time for Canucks to move to an emerging country. We welcome you here in Southeast Asia.

I think the system was designed intentionally to empty immigrants pockets and then push them out. Sell Canadian Dream, bring as much immigrants as possible. Make them pay crazy rents and keep them in never attainable certification limbo. By the time they realize they are already exploited by the system. Can confirm, we Canadians like to form small social circles and otherwise keep to ourselves. You have tried to explain very well the initial struggle faced by new immigrants. This does take years and sometimes decades to settle down properly in a new country for first generation. First generation Indians try to save as much as they can while cutting corners. Things have relatively become much easier as there are plenty of jobs for those who have professional degrees and substantial experience. I personally found Canadian bachelor of engineering was far superior than masters of computer science in USA. I enjoyed spending four years in downtown Toronto while full time studying in late 80’s before moving back to USA. Someone else mentioned here in previous thread that all of their friends are much better off in India. I feel more or less the same way in spite of having three engineering degrees and 40 years experience. I am strong believer in Karmas, your destiny will take you where you’re supposed to be. I am one of those after and 33 years in Canada .I am 70 years old and still working to make living. Last week I watched our government meeting. They want to help Canadian citizens help with heating expenses with heat pump. Just think how long will be to install to each house heat pump? ( first cost and Canadian climate no works anyway)No one this people didn’t say we are oil country just built refinery and make heating cheaper. On thanksgiving I was sick and go to the emergency in Winchester hospital and after 2 hours waiting the nurse told me today is waiting time to see doctors is 12 hours and I went home. As a Canadian who has lived in almost all the provinces and territories, all my life, I can tell you that a lot has changed as I think the best time or era was in the 1970's and you may have come at the worst time as the worst appears to be now when everything has become too expensive. The other problem relates to Canada, its size, the distances to travel, the smaller tax base with a smaller population than that of United States or India. This is not intended to provide excuses but most people here do not even have a family doctor as many doctors find greener pastures in the United States where the dollar is 30 percent higher in value and salaries are not limited to government health care. It is hard to change when American influence dictates much of what transpires. Homelessness hasn't been a problem but the last five years has provided more hardship for many who find it hard to cope with how things have become.

I'm from Asia and recently moved to Canada with my family to live a slower-paced and safer life. I've seen firsthand that the drug problem here is worse than it was back home, and they're being coddled with no plans to discipline or rehabilitate them. I asked my friends how I could defend myself and my family if a random drug addict broke into our house and stole our belongings; could I at least beat that person up until the police arrived? They said you couldn't because you'd be charged with assault. It's funny. \n\nApart from the crimes and exorbitant living costs despite living in a rural area, even Canadians who have lived in the country since birth are struggling to make ends meet. \n\nSome positive comments, Canada provided me with a work-life balance that was not possible in Asia due to the competitive nature of the corporate world. So I had time to spend with my family, and you don't have to travel abroad to see beautiful scenery. Canadians are also very accommodating and friendly, in contrast to where I came from, where people will not help unless it benefits them as well. The Canadians here are extremely friendly. So Canada is great because of its people, but I can tell you that the government consistently makes bad decisions about how to solve certain problems, such as drugs and harm reduction strategies. Another issue is that they do not recognize internationally trained professionals, which could have helped alleviate healthcare issues in our area, where we have many internationally trained nurses from the Philippines working as restaurant servers and janitors. We have doctors from Kenya who have to work as general laborers and in other odd jobs where they can use their profession and experience to help people. I am also an immigrant, but the government should strategically distribute us based on our qualifications. I chose a rural area because I don't want to add to the number of immigrants in big cities and instead want to contribute to the local economy by bringing my skills and experience to the pool. \n\nCanada is a wonderful country, and I continue to believe so, but the government must reward and do more for its people who are trying their best to make this country great.

Being a citizen of a country requires time, money, heart and sacrifice. If you're only here to get the benefit of a high paid career and a big house, you're not Canadian even if technically you have citizenship and if you choose to leave, that's fine.

Who in the hell would now want to immigrate to Canada ? Outrageous housing costs which consume most of your income . One has to work at least two to three jobs just to try to keep from completely drowning economically . A healthcare system which is on life support . It is next to impossible to get a doctor . Emergency waits times at hospitals can range from 4 to 24 hours . Traffic from hell in all of the major cities .... particularly Toronto , Montreal and Vancouver . The crushing cost of living . A political leader who is a complete fool who has basically destroyed the country in just 8 years . As if all of this wasn't bad enough ...... 5 months of winter from hell . Living in Canada is now an extreme struggle in every way imaginable . One will always struggle . One will always work like a dog . One will very likely fall into extreme debt in Canada just to survive . One has to pay outrageous taxes on their income leaving them with about 50% of what they actually earn after they have paid all of the combined taxes on everything that they buy or services that they use . Forget about ever being able to save money . Incomes are about about 35% less than other advanced than those in other advanced countries for the same skilled job . One will never own a home . One will never be able to start a family . One will always freeze in the winter . Life in Canada has become an absolute hell . The Canadian dream is as dead as dead can be . It is no longer a country where one can earn a decent living , own a home and live a good life . On top of all of this it has an authoritarian government which keeps passing new laws to reduce free speech and civil rights .

The Canadian economy is in stagnation (at best). The real estate in the mean time stays in a bubble (partly due to inflation and partly to that very unsustainable immigration policy). Labor market is as good as dead (at least for qualified skilled workers) - with too many businesses (including oil and gas) in decline or leaving. And the overall quality of life as well as the future outlook for young and new Canadians are in decline. Try to fix all that first!
