Thank goodness I chose the United States for my education. In 2010, I had two options -Texas A&M University and University of Waterloo. I thought of Waterloo at first (being top university in Canada vs 15th in US) as I was naive, but Texas A&M gave me teaching assistantship which meant 100 % tuition scholar and monthly stipend. Being from a lower middle class family in India, I took the option. \nEven 13 years down the line, that was the best decision of my life. I had chance to work with best researchers and professors in world, work in highly funded research labs, publish papers and patent and later get good job in my domain. \nI never aimed for green card and moved back to India. I applied for Canada and even received ITA but didn't go ahead. Things are not perfect but even today in India, most people are impressed by some niche work I did in US.

I’m a Kenyan American and this is my two cents….Moving abroad for better opportunities is actually not a bad idea but people need to understand that you need the right papers and an actual skill to make it….I’ve lived in Europe, America and the Middle East over the years, the hard pill to swallow is all this places will give you a job depending on the kind of passport you carry. I’ve had the same skill and the minute I got my naturalization and finally carry an American passport…there are job offers all over. My African peeps get yourself a good skill and become very good at it….that will get your foot through the door

Hi. We too did the same mistake moving to Europe as a family where we do not have anyone. It's so lonely here. We moved from Middle East thinking we will have a better life, and for my child education in t college but just like you I am feeling so lonely, restless crying day n night...I wish we could go back...Middle East countries are much better.

I've been put out of Mississauga because I can't afford it anymore...this video speaks my truth, even if it is hard to admit. Min wage really has to increase a lot, I used to be able to afford everything alone with one job, but not anymore. Or even if education was not so expensive one can upskill or educate for a new career but its just another investment thats too expensive to afford. Desperately trying to figure out where to live that is not the middle of nowhere, so hard to find that balance between comfort and affordability.

Before with 5k Canadian dollars you would put down for a mortgage and get into the housing market. If you are coming as a foreign trained professional. You are okay. Otherwise, make sure you have immediate family willing to help you untill you get on your feet. DON'T COME as a visitor without family to ask for refugee status. You will suffer. Most of those stranded in Toronto are those seeking asylum and shelters are full with those who came from newyork when the borders where shut.\n\nOtherwise if you can pay your bills in Africa just stay there, atleast you have morals. The guy was probably squarely in the middle class in the Caribbean and then moved to a 1st world country and dropped status, because everything is standardized. There are no shortcuts. He therefore feels shortchanged. Canada however ranks high in almost every metric - life expectancy, childhood mortality, quality healthcare, good education system, livable cities, clean air/water, low crime rates ... As per my past experience I lived 2 years partially without any types of done job or hard work ..So .. I can say that Canada is HEAVEN .. But ... One generation sacrifice for their children future .... If they not have sufficient fund .... As per me .. Canada .. is Best for Either lower middle class who hard work in here India or Rich class people ... For Middle class who never faced any types of Hard work not easily settle in Canada.

If you can answer any 2 out of these 3 questions with a 'Yes' you should definitely not come to Canada.\n1. Can you open up a tap/faucet anywhere in your home country and drink water without any worries of filtering it or boiling it?\n2. Do you make enough money or already have enough money to be able to breathe fresh clean air 24/7?\n3. Do you feel safe if you, your spouse or your children have to travel alone in the city or on the highway in middle of the night using public or personal transport?\n\nI don't know about where you are, a good lot of people would answer these 3 questions with a YES in Canada.

I just got back from a visit to Toronto. I was visiting a friend who lives in a subsidised housing complex whose management NPO just declared bankruptcy. He was given a notice telling him that he will alright until the end of the month. After that he has no idea what will happen. He expects some sort of political intervention but the end of the month is still less than 10 days away.\n\nFrom my point of view all levels of government must act immediately: restrict rent increases and stop the post-covid price gouging; reduce regulations that limit the amount of infill housing, and density in existing neighbourhoods (allow the construction of missing middle housing and eliminate parking minimum regulations); and start building public housing again. \n\nWe cannot rely on corporations or private interests to fulfil basic human needs. What we are seeing now in the Toronto region, the Vancouver region, and Calgary is a crisis created by government neglect and corporate greed. I lived in TO and loved the multiculturalism, but the rate of demographic change needs to be managed and new immigrants properly supported and integrated. With the mass immigration of the past 2 decades, with a great share of the immigrants moving to TO and the GTA, what made TO great has been destroyed. Especially with the pressure on rents and house prices as the population sky rocketed. In the early 1990s TO was a great middle class city, now its just like other cities with the rich doing well and the rest struggling to hang on. Left in 2017 and will not be going back.

I live in Canada I recently visited my hometown. When I grew up there was maybe a handful of homeless on some of the downtown streets but now it’s over run with homeless and drug addicts. New immigrants from India, China and Middle East pool their money together with friends and family and rent apartments. 2-3 families will cram into a small infested apartment

Been in Aus for 10 yrs now. No doubt that quality of life is better especiallyin terms of road sense, cleanliness and env but thats largeley because of their population to resources ratio and the relevance of cleanliness taught right at schools. However post covid things have changed. Given the current inflation in Aus, the cost of living has tremendously grown. On the other hand, the middle class in India has emerged stronger than the middle class in as in terms of their spending ability. India has far more digitalization than Aus and lot of our jobs are bring outsourved there that i cam tell from my own experience.

People from Nations with horrific poverty do not comprehend Nations not like that are built around a culture of working hard. I was doing a job in a major city in North America where I would come into contact with some frequency with small business owners from Europe. It would be revealed in conversation they are extremely reluctant to hire men ( not the women ) from places like Africa, The Middle East and South Asia because those individuals are accustomed to passing the day doing next to nothing, letting women do most the work, are difficult to train and become combative when asked to work with the intensity of local norms. That is not racist. Racist would be wishing those groups harm, thwarting their progress, etc. But facts are facts. Certain groups are socialized to do the bare minimum in life in settings where it is not necessary to work hard enough to sustain infrastructure and personal resources for very cold winters and a decent, not unsanitary standard of living. If anyone accuses that of being racist they have never ran a business with balanced books in an industrialized Nation. It has nothing to do with genetics. It has to do with how people are socialized. Traveling on Saudia the Male flight attendants do next to nothing, tend to be rude and let the Women do most the work. Why? Because they can get away with it.

If you can communicate in English then it's very comfortable in Canada.\nEveryone is very hardworking, their weddings are simple.\nThey don't spend too much on clothes.....no show off.\nWe need to be more adaptable. \nNot to fuss to much over the food. Be joyful and enjoy the beauty of Canada.\nDelhi is very comfortable.\nGood local transport, domestic helps , good hospitals and vibrant markets.....but the climate is too hot and too cold and the poverty ,air, noise pollution is bit too much. \nUpper middle class is a very happy space in India.\n\nIf health remains okay.... explore and appreciate the new place and their culture.\nIn India too much focus on food... that's why adjustment problems.( within the family also)\nI love the diversity, care for the huma life ,infrastructure and work culture of Canada.\nAbove all very handicapped friendly country.\nPeople are very polite.\n\nTrip to Canada has become very expensive ?\n\nAs a guest we too have a responsibility to make our host feel good and be an asset in whatever way we can contribute.

As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. The taxpayers in those countries are feeling it. Look at the folks sleeping on the floor in NY! The homeless citizens don’t have places to sleep but politicians are lodging new border crossing migrants in hotels at taxpayers expense, creating resentment! \n\nFight those oppressing you in your countries. A doctor has a target of about 15 to 20 patients to see per day and rushes you out of his office because the corporation he works for only cares about money and KPIs! You really aren’t allowed to interact with patients and provide personalized service. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!
