I have any friends who are from other countries were trying to get their family members here legally through the legal process and it takes them literally 10 to 20 years and to allow people to just walk across the border and hand them work permits, hotel rooms and checks to support them is a disgrace.. these people for the most part do not speak, read or write English, whereas my friends families, for the most part do speak ,reading write English and a good part of them have college degrees who could contribute quite a bit of this country, but are not allowed to come here immediately.. these people should be allowed to come here immediately as it being sponsored have a place to stay and contribute…

In African countries, nuclear families are predominant. In the Caribbean and other black communities across the world, single-parent families are predominant with mothers as head of household. And as you can see in the family structures today, outside of African countries, black families are broken - it will follow us. Plantation societies are going to be hard to redirect. The easiest way to get into Canada is sneak across the border, where there is no border crossing, and go to an RCMP Officer to get your money and hotel room.

I moved to Canada in 2003, I think over the past few years things really took a turn for the worst and alot of the issues we're encountering now are mostly a result of government incompetency \n\n1) Instead of focusing on treatment and recovery we prioritized harm reduction and drug decriminalization which largely results in the current mental health/addiction crisis \n\n2) Instead of seeing housing as a public need, policies make housing investment vehicles (notably for rich folks in foreign countries) and locals can't really afford to buy or rent as a result\n\n3) Instead of building mass transit infrastructure including subways/light rail we continue to be extremely car-centric, most Canadians can't get around without a car but also can't really afford one due to all the costs associated with ownership. \n\n\n4) Government continues to cut back on healthcare spending despite an aging population across the country\n\nAnd one nongovernment-related aspect which is NIMBYism -- endless delays/protests on all major projects because someone is afraid their backyard views might be obstructed or some old trees might be cut.

Pretty accurate but one thing I’d disagree with here, is that housing in general may be relatively cheaper but that’s not across the board. Vancouver’s housing is wild and if you are just starting out there, you are working just to get by there.\n\nAlso, our politics is definitely more boring, but I don’t know if that’s always a good thing. I think you ladies are way out in left field and you really don't know what you're talkin about. Unfortunately for some people it doesn't work out for whatever reason usually because they do not want to assimilate very well. I grew up in Ontario to a french-canadian father and an Italian mother in my life in Canada was so perfect said if I had to dream up a better life I could not have done so. I grew up playing all the sports and enjoyed all the different sports and the changes of seasons. My parents had a summer home on the st-lawrence river and every summer we water-ski swam fished, play golf in the morning and barbecues every night right on the water. Even though my grandfather was in the hotel business I was all about sports and enjoying everything about it. I grew up in a town of about 50 thousand about 40 miles from Montreal. When I wanted some great nightlife just drove a short drive to Montreal and it had everything did anyone could want in Nightlife. I have lived in United States for forty years and I can tell you that it really isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Heaven forbid should you get some kind of catastrophic illness you are screwed. I knew a woman who work for travelers insurance for 30 years at the best insurance a money could buy had suffered a couple of strokes and was on the verge of going broke had she not died when she died. People think that insurance continues to pay his long as you're ill and nothing could be further from the truth. This lady was going to have to sell her house to continue paying for round-the-clock care had she not died when she did. United States middle class is getting wiped out. I've seen enough poverty and hardship in this country to last a lifetime. I find greed to be running rampant in this country. When I grew up in Canada there was always the grass is greener on the other side and when I did move over to the other side the US that is I can tell you unequivocally the dead grass is not greener on the other side. There are more millions and millions of people here that are one or two paychecks away from being homeless. And we're talkin 2023. Now let's talk about violence. There is a mass murder in the United States every single day of the year. And a mass murder is defined by four or more people being killed by one person at one time. Killing these so out of control in the United States that now even six-year-olds are shooting their teacher. I find a tremendous amount of built-up Anger from people. Food is very expensive and shelter is also out of control and non affordable to most people. Again I find United States being able to paint a much Rosier picture then does really exist. And there are more con artists and thieves , Crooks, con-artists, bamboozlers, cheats and scammers then anywhere that I've ever been. And I will say this is it it ain't getting any better and I don't see it ever getting better. I find it is everybody out for themselves no matter who they cheat. I live in Southern California and I can tell you that night life where I live is non-existent. Understand that LA and Hollywood they always have to glamorize everything to sell it to tourists. Just remember that things today are not what they were 40 years ago. Middle-class people in Canada would also be just middle-class people in the US. But if your life means anything to you as far as safety and raising a family then Canada wins hands down end of discussion. People that say Canada is boring is because they are boring. That's what I found to be pretty standard across the board. Life is what you make of it. But I will say that you gals definitely need to move away if you don't like Canada. Do not let the door hit your ass on the way out. And just for your information Canada ranks annually as one of the top countries in the world to immigrate to. Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area and next to Saudi Arabia has the third largest oil Reserves in the world. Canada has huge amount of freshwater which most of the rest of the world seems to be lacking and having spent my Summers on the Saint Lawrence River one of the Great Rivers in this world. I wouldn't change my twenty years in Canada for anyplace else in this world and I will be moving back shortly.

It's wild how large some states are... driving across Texas... MASSIVE... I'm in California and you can drive 8 hours South, and you're STILL in the SAME state. LA is ridiculously dense with traffic... and the Bay Area! What.... 3 hours in just a small distance... whew child ?

I've lived In the US all my life. I was fortunate to come across my amazing wife who lives In Vancouver, BC. I was able to travel to Vancouver a lot since 2007 and I love the city. It's very beautiful, the people are decent, the houses are nice (yet expensive) and overall I like it up there. And you can't beat the free healthcare up there. I'm going to be moving from Chicago to Vancouver, BC in about a year cause my wife has had some medical issues and coming to the states won't work financially since she has medical issues already. I'm nervous yet excited. It's not that diverse when It comes to black people but I can get along with anybody. Size is the big thing people even in the states do not understand. I constantly hear we need a bullet train or public transit. If I take the city bus across town it's at least a 2 hour trip and that assumes there is a single bus, no transfers and good luck with that.

Funny you say that about America being a bunch of countries lumped together. Because that's really what it is. We're a union. A collection of individual territories. United by a constitution and federal government.\n\nThat's why states have their own national guards, individual laws, social norms, state flag etc. This is why governers have to ask the federal government for aid. Outside of natural disasters or an attack. \n\nFederal government's job is to maintain the stability and growth of the union. And deal with anything that can threaten the stability of the union as a whole. \n\nSuch as a terrorist attack, natural disasters, serial killer killing across multiple states. Funding projects such as maintaining interstate highways, Airports, national parks etc. Outside of that? States do their own thing.

I feel like Canada is a lite version of the U.S. \n\nI'm a lifelong U.S. citizen and been to Canada many times. Mostly in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec. \n\nI totally agree Canada is and feels way safer. I've been to some areas of Toronto that are HOOD and I was taken aback. The 6ix is getting a little crazy, I don't know what's happening with the Lake Ontario air over there. Overall though, Toronto is so much safer, cleaner and much more pleasant to be in than in NYC or Chicago (from my experience and I choose those cities because they are usually compared to each other). Montreal has some sketchy areas but some of the sketchy areas of Montreal are comparable to a nice suburban area of the Bronx or Queens. The Zoe's in Montreal can be annoying but overall I never felt I had to be on alert. Again, Canada definitely is a lot safer (to me) and also way cleaner. \n\nAs for the cities, I think overall the urban areas of Canada are a little better with city planning but its not that much different. Other than Some areas of Canada you also need a car or if not, you're assed out. The provinces in Canada are HUGE and you can be driving all day in just one province. And like the U.S. the rail system across the nation isn't too great. Actually, I think the U.S. has a better bus (Greyhound/GhettoHound, Peter Pan, Mega Bus etc) and rail system (Amtrak) then Canada does. Not saying a whole lot but its still better I feel. \n\nWeather. If you're looking for warm weather year round, you will NOT find that in Canada. \n\nI think the U.S. provides more opportunity at the moment and overall, I think there's more to do and see and I believe it or not I think people in the U.S. generally are a little bit friendlier and more full of life. Of course, everything depends on what you're looking for but both are great countries but I find myself wanting to move up north to Canada nowadays but the gun laws are a deterrent for me.

Full time and part time employees are entitled to 4 weeks vacation here in Australia, I don’t know anyone who only gets 4 tho, most get 5 to 6. Also, theres Medicare for all permanent residents and citizens; 18 weeks maternity leave— 3 months paid. There are 12 public holidays and just Far Less Crime. When people ask me if I miss “home”… I share that I miss good and easy access to stuff… but friends can visit me here, and I’ll pay extra for the things I enjoy to be mailed. The only major thing is as a black girl getting my hair done… lordddd ?. \n\nI’ve lived in Cambodia, Thailand, Spain and Gibraltar traveling solo. The more I traveled safer I felt despite never feeling too unsafe in the states when I lived there, I did when I traveled across country at times. It took me some time to feel into this new level of “ahhhhh this is what safety feels like!! Mom, come feel this! U can go for a walk at 2am!”\n\nWould never move back, but I’m grateful my roots are from there.

I think those of us that live here in the states that are in states that are close to Canada are fortunate because we get the best of both worlds. I'm from Detroit and we visit regularly because it's right across the river. I've been to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and use to visit Windsor often. We started going to Canada at a young age because it was legal to drink at 19 when we found that out we were there at least once a month back then. I've always enjoyed my time in Canada I'll be back there soon.

As someone who lived across America and in Montreal and Vancouver, the cost of living there isn’t worth the pay disparity compared to other major cities. I’ve had the same company send me an offer $30k less to work the same job in Montreal instead of Vancouver because of the cheaper cost of living. I did the math and still would make more net profit in Van than MTL

I worked in Vancouver a lot, which was really nice and pretty, but I don't recall the tap water hitting me hard lol. I grew up on the northwest chicago burbs and spent much of my life there and think it is one of the great areas to grow up and live in. The city itself has pros and cons for areas, like all cities, although crime seems up in even the better parts these days. Y'all are super on point with airlines - because of the competition across all the major airlines here, as well as competition across banks and co-branded credit cards, US citizens can take advantage of some pretty great deals and options uniquely available only here because of this competition.

Its a bit niche but phone bills in Canada are pretty awful. I don't know if it has gotten better on the east coast, but on the west coast pays 60$+ per month for jack-all on data on a bare minimum smartphone plan. I live in Europe now and I pay 12$ for 5Gb of data and free texts and calls across Europe (also no data roaming within the EU, which should be a thing between USA and Canada imo). These kind of mobile plans are starting to take root in the USA but are still not available in Canada, which is a major L in my books.

In Dallas I’m paying 1686 for a 650 square foot single bedroom. That’s before internet and electric. But I got friends who got rent controlled property in LA for 200 a month. It’s wild how different it can be. I make 2200 a month at my job. Which means a car is barely an option. At the same time I work across the street and in a corporate setting.

I lived in almost every province across Canada. Spent over a decade in Halifax and some of the smaller communities. The crime there is above normal. I have lost thousands of dollars in tools multiple times from break and enters and never once had a good investigational outcome. The last time was in Truro where I lost over 20k worth of tools and household goods. I told the investigating officer who did it. The drug dealing individual was not even questioned because he was an informant for the RCMP. Ontario, Nova Scotia, and many other provinces has a false crime rate. Maybe Manitoba and Saskatchewan has a really bad crime rate because the police actually do their job. You did not mention about provincial taxes, that would definitely throw Quebec under the bus. Even though I was born in Ontario, Alberta has my number.
