This country has a history of a few hundreds years and it’s all immigration. It was a brown land, then the Europeans came and it became whiter and now it’s becoming more brown again. Anyone gets to try living here as much as you or your ancestors did. At least these folks are not coming to ravage villages and burn kids in residential schools.

I am dorry to say this, but you were lied to. People immigrate becourse they can. There are countries that are better to live in where you will have more security in life. I think he's not the best person to interview about the problem. They should have interviewed people who recently immigrated with semi skilled or vocational jobs. Like plumbers, electricians, or truck drivers. These professions are in demand in Canada due to shortage but the remuneration is low compared to the very high cost of living in Canada. I'd say it's better to live in a poorer or middle income countries like Thailand or the Philippines but with better affordability.

I don't understand why Canada is a first world country! Shattered economy, no proper employment for white collar jobs, horrible infrastructure but has complex legalities with high taxation. However GCC, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland provide much much more better facilities and employment for global immigrants. There is no reason, why people will come to Canada for jobs. Gulf offers much more jobs and attractive salaries than Canada and savings potential is much much more in that region.

My capital gains on investments is around 15%. I get free health care (which while obviously not free - is paid out of my taxes, yet isn't rationed or in-network restrictions, doesn't have copays and cover 90% of my medical needs). I have a government that even at its worst, is orders of magnitude more rational and public serving than the US (and god help you if Trump gets back in). Not to mention a country that doesn't literally have a major gun violence/mass shooting even EVERY FRICKING WEEK, unlike the US.\n\nAnd yes, I live in Metro Van and I have an 850 sq ft two bedroom apt I'm renting for $1250/mo - so maybe the problem isn't simply that the housing market is too tight (which it is), but that you've picked a city in high demand that's boxed in on four sides - ocean to the west, mountains to the north, US border to the south and what little farmland the lower mainland can sustain to the east. no matter who gets into power, in any country, from any political background, it doesn't matter. nothing ever changes for the better, it only gets worse. its the poor, vulnerable and disabled who become the first victims of the down trend. just look at the u.k. where hundreds of thousands of people murdered because of our government using us as scapegoats to drive their policies, one of which being the hostile benefits policy. you can easily find info about it online by searching the term and u.k. dwp deaths.\nthe most frustrating part about it is that poor disabled people can't do anything about it. we are ignored not just by the government but by society in general. we have no voice and so our suffering goes on. it feels like a hopeless situation.

I can't believe my poor third world country is doing a little bit better than Canada

I'm reading a lot of peoples problems here and I keep asking myself why has all our systems in this country keep failing us? I have noticed a aggressively progressive decline in the last 10 yrs in Banking, Healthcare, Community Services, Safety etc. I can list pages of issues and yet we tolerate this by continuously electing our government at all levels keeping them in power and not holding them accountable for their actions or decisions. We need to do better and get more involved!

Seems to be a lot of mildly rascist comments under this video. Depressing, I expected better from my fellow canadians. Its not the colour of someones skin, their religion, or their culture that makes someone a good person and worth knowing. Its how they treat others. Canada has always been a country that's thrived because of diversity. In my experience most immigrant Canadians have great work ethics and treat others with respect and kindness. I'm happy to call them my countrymen.

Most immigrants are staying 3-5 years for citizenship because just like Canadians they realized that by living just across the border they will get paid better with less taxes, better prices and housing and weather. It's just insane that a huge rich country filled with resources for construction and agriculture can't afford basic housing or affordability for its citizens

On the streets in the shops of my city English is spoken about 50% of the time and about 80% of the people you see aren't even from Canada. Unlike them I no longer have a home country to fall back to, or to hold my primary allegiance. \nI hate what my country is becoming, most of my life I was so grateful to part of a society that was better than the middle east, now we are rushing to become it.

I used to say to people, if your homeless in Canada your better off flying off to a third world country then come back to Canada as a refugee, you’ll be treated better.

I'm born in the UK to Serbian parents, but grown up in Norway so I've seen three different cultures in my life all at once. I always liked Canada for being diverse because then I wouldn't have to switch between being English, Serbian or Norwegian, I could be more me because I am basically multicultural. For years I've idealised Canada and it wasn't until just two weeks ago that I got to visit and see for myself what Canada is like. I was in Toronto and also in Vancouver visiting a family that moved there from the UK I hadn't seen since I was a kid. I loved the nature (Especially Vancouver my god!) and the people, but I learned about how extremely expensive housing in Canada is to the point that it would be hard to make ends meet just renting a place let alone buying a house. Also how immigration is out of control and those who do come to Canada are disproportionately from one country being India rather than many different, which is not good for maintaining diversity. This is something I saw having lived most of my two weeks in Mississauga just south of the airport.\n\nI hope you guys finally get someone better in the next election, because I have more hopes for Canada than I do for the UK. 28-year-old Female Sydneysider from Australia here. Apologise in advance for the long post and rambling.\n\n\nNot sure if it is just me, so please correct me if I am wrong. Just probably now too overly 'realistically too cynical'. So please take my input with a grain of salt. 

For context’ sake, for most of my adulthood I have always been poor & I am born with special health needs (E.g. disabilities).
\n\n\nSometimes on forums we are often contrasted to Canada, for some reason. Both Canada and Australia have remarkably similar problems with a different coat of paint. Sydney, for instance, has always been high up in the list of the cities with the highest cost of living in the world. Usually within the top 10-20. 

COVID-19 obviously made this issue clearer in some circumstances because we couldn't 'work' at all. Unless you were an essential service worker, to mentally block out personal and local difficulties.\n\n\nWe still have not recovered from that 2–3 years global shutdown. The only reason I was allowed to work for a period was because I work for the animal industry and aid in animal welfare. 

I still lost my job due to COVID-19 regardless and knew I would never get a decent job again. Merely just the last poor sod on the boat to be thrown off. 

Could not become a vet nurse despite working very hard. Just because no one wants to give me '2-years permanent paid experience’ to be taken seriously. 

At the same time, way too many employers will happily take 2+ years of veterinary students volunteering at their vet clinic. With the vague promise of a permanent job.

Which, of course, never happens, then say we are being too demanding or spoilt for politely asking for said job.\n\n\nHow are we supposed to pay off our student debt if any financial service expects us to have a per meant job to pay anything off??

 No, they do not want to train nor help you. They just want free labour, then kick you out once your time is up. All my jobs have been casual, and my animal industry has already become heavily casual based ages ago. Permanent job is like looking for a magical unicorn.\n\n\nSo, even if you and your relatives lived in the way outer suburbs of Sydney for decades, being typically considered roughly lower-middle socio-economic families. 

The younger adults and kids all know and have been aware for years, they have no future at all due to having an inflated cost of living. Sugar-coating it, saying it might go in a positive direction, sounds like a blatant lie. We all know it is a lie.\n\n\nNowadays, in contrast to the late nineties and early 2000s when I was just a tiny naive kid that didn't know any better. There seems to be a more jarring split between the income brackets of what the country assumes who is poor, middle class or rich today. 

\n\nBy today's standards, my family is no longer even considered close to the very lower end of the middle class if you were reaching hard. We are considered 'poor' just because my parents do not earn roughly $50,000 — $150,000 AUD a year on their own in 2023. When something does not change within roughly 5–10 years, it is more than simply just valid for us to feel like we cannot fix what has been broken.

In Canada, the major centers are too expensive. However, Canada is one of the easier countries for foreigners to come in and stay long term and make a decent living, especially from countries like the Philippines and India. If they are highly skilled though, there are better opportunities. Just don't talk about homelessness and say it is one of the reasons no to come to Canada from the Philippines. Homeless and slums are quite prevalent all over the Philippines. Taxes however are ridiculously high in Canada - but this socialist slant is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Most of what was reported here is true but the housing market and rents have skyrocketed all over the world since the Chinese government F'd everyone with Covid-19. At first there were supply chain issues with all goods so businesses said we have to increase prices. Once supply issues were back to pre-Covid-19 levels businesses did not & will not lower their prices on goods because , we as a society do not take matters into our own hands and boycott products\\company's etc. Now obviously we cannot boycott all goods & services but the majority we could and that is the only thing that would cause action among companies to lower bank fees, fast food prices, grocery prices, cell plan costs etc.\n\nWith that said, you picked two of the highest and most sought after city's in CAN to rent & or try to buy a home. Although rent & home prices have really jumped all over the world in the past 3-4 years, more affordable (still not cheap) housing, compared to Toronto, Vancouver, can be found all across CAN. My sister & brother in law found an apartment to rent in Winnipeg without any difficulty or waiting. \nThey are immigrants and entered on her student Visa & he is a computer programmer. They are not struggling to eat but they have to follow a tight budget since she cannot work but 20 hours a week as a student and they have 1 kid, a car payment,utilities, cell plan, etc. They have filed for their PR and I suspect they will be approved since his job is in demand and she will graduate from College there in 4 months or so.\n\nOne thing I noticed, when my wife & I went up to get them settled in, is that the government (national & local) taxes you all pay out of the wazzoo on everything! I think the only thing that wasn't taxed was air. ? I know most of this is due to the healthcare system, because the money has to come from somewhere. Don't misunderstand, I like the CAN healthcare system better than the US's, because the insurance companies stick it to us as well, but both have their pluses and minuses.\n\nCAN does have a much easier system for immigration. If my sister & bro in law could have come here we would have been glad for them to stay with us and help them get started but the backlog is just so long to wait (10 + years). I also LOVE CAN because you uphold your laws and DEPORT illegal immigrants instead of letting them pour into the Country, by the millions each year, and the majority eventually trickle into the population illegally, who get jobs & pay no taxes (other than sales tax) no driver's licenses or vehicle insurance and get 100% free medical and hospital care anytime while legal US citizen's pay high premiums, into social security and their income taxes each year.

the trouble with immigration policy in canada is that it is no longer tied with the economic need but has become rooted in an idea that immigration is something that is always progressive and desirable. Hence, the more the better, has been the guiding principle for years. any discussion of the merits of liberal immigration policy was discouraged and any questioning of an ever growing number of newcomers was portrayed as racist. bad actors in the form of unscrupulous businesses capitalized on this attitude and started importing ever larger number of temporary foreign workers which depressed wages and incomes. To the mix were added international students who came into the country in their hundreds of thousands in search of work and eventual permanent residence rather than education. critical mass was reached in 2022 and was further exacerbated in 2023. things got so completely out of control that even LPC - the champions of large scale immigration, had to implement some half-baked and half-hearted measures to stem the flow. where this will end up is anybody's guess but once the floodgates are open, they are virtually impossible to close. i am sure we will be dealing with the consequences of imprudent immigration policies for years if not decades to come.

Just because you had the privilege and the means to be developed does not give you the right to demean other nations. It's always difficult to see changes around you and your home being in your words being raided by foreign entities. Guess what? The world is filled with different ethnic groups. Hundreds of years ago all your native homes were part of the indigenous people here and they didn't even have time to complain or lament online when the Europeans butchered them and massacred their homelands, claiming the land and setting up as their own. Now you are in a position to call something your home and we all know what all your ancestors did regardless of how good you are right now. The least you can do is not comment such provocatively online against other ethnicities or is this atrocity still there in your blood. It's very simple. Came here about 8 years ago from eastern Europe. Love it in Canada! It's not perfect, but again no country is. We enjoy the easy-going people, the feeling of freedom, and access to good jobs (doing much better economically than back in the old country) and the multi-cultural atmosphere . Many thanks to kind, open-minded Canadians who have made us feel at home.

I've honestly never really thought of it but as a Canadian that moved to the UK (Scotland specifically) it is crazy to have it broken down this way. My partner (Scottish) and I talked about the pros and cons in living in either country and we came to the conclusion is was better to live in the UK. TBF she is an engineer and in the future it may be better to live in Canada but right now between the salary and time off (20 day (CAD) vs her current 40 days off plus flexible working days (equals out to more like 44)) it's better to live in Scotland. I was also able to find a much better high paying job here in the UK (Edinburgh no less) than anywhere in Canada and have continued to work here in the UK cheaper.\n I hope to move back to Canada one day but don;' know if it will ever be possible.

it's the biggest dump I ever had misfortune to live in. Unlike Europe, the cities are block-like, ugly, grey, and polluted. There's homeless , drugged up zombies everywhere. Cars run you over everywhere. There's no culture of humanism (just for show). It looks like a 3rd world war zone without a single soldier or shot being fired ! Quite an accomplishment. On top of that, taxes are in the top 3 highest in the world and you get almost nothing for this huge cost. Other countries have half or a third of the taxes and have better infrastructure and pensions! I had parents who worked entire life, paid 50% tax and get 2k cad (like almost 1.3k usd) a month! What an insult to justice this socialist dump exemplifies. Huge costs, low quality of everything. You have to be a Sadist to set foot in this country. Northern Extremes like Canada and Russia are actually very similar in bad outcomes.

Many Indians have a huge desire to leave their country and go abroad for a better life and are willing to do whatever it takes. Credit where credit's due, but there are consequences.

Almost feels like reverse colonialization from all the British territories. First, they converted the UK and then to the other commonwealth nations. With China making up 18% of the world's population, India at 18% and Africa at 18% expect to see more from these 3 countries (the last is a continent). Although once they have citizenship they are all Canadians. Shame the interviewer only talked to almost homeless non-Indian Canadians! When I walk into the local Walmart I feel more like a stranger abroad because I don't understand what people are saying because they are all immigrants and refugees.\nI'm no racist, but having the government impose this on the population is such a disrespect. The health management situation was never fixed and we pour in multitudes of refugees to clog it even better. A few years ago clinics changed their way of getting an appointment because waiting rooms were overfilled with refugees! It's now so hard to get an appointment it stresses me out to no end! The silver lining in this is that I have not much more time to live. You can have the country. It's not mine. Things weren't like this in my youth!

If i compare Today's Canada with my home country Greece during crisis period(2010-2017), the wages in my country was, and still is crap but the good thing was the extremely cheap housing due to a housing crash. That helped me buy two properties. Now it's almost impossible to be a first time buyer. Now also, especially after covid, the energy cost, food cost, made even people like me who are owners struggling to cover daily costs(living in my own property and renting out the other + working overtime). I decided to move to Copenhagen, but i quickly realised that it's not much better, and i couldn't use my qualifications. Now i'm working double the average person here to be able to afford to buy a sh*tbox in a smaller city, and i cannot sell any property back home bc i will pay a huge capital gain tax as a Danish tax resident. My rental income from Greece can't help to get bigger mortgage in Denmark, but i think my income is enough for anywhere outside Cph. ...i don't want to imagine how Canadian cities, London, Australian cities are for the average renter/1st time buyer!

Its not entirely the federal governments fault. The state governments are sabotaging the country and blaming it on the feds. The world is WAY worse outside the borders than in them. It looks like they have noticed that people are frustraited. They are not responsible for all things. I lay the failures I know they are responsible for at their feet, not every failure in the world. Id say they get a B-/C+. They really came through on alot of stuff, but they could have done better. And no, im talking about for the country. Im not a single policy focus person.

This is government's fault and not of the people coming from India, China, Pakistan, etc. (I'm not talking about Illiegal Immigrants)\nGovt. need money to give pension, for development, etc. and also there is shortage of labour in certain sectors and thus draining these countries' elite working force. Story is different for students though who are paying 5-6 times more fees than Canadian just to have better future, but have to work day and night.

Mr. Beautiful needs to go. He has destroyed this country...people cannot afford homes, crime through the roof. Most of Canadians saw this coming, but the new Canadians votes for him as they saw great opportunities to have families come to Canada. At the end we all are paying the price. Liberals simply bought votes and screwed everyone at the end. $80k job does not get you anywhere now a days. It is better to move to US rather than being here.
