Trudeau image as a leader was diminished until the tariff wars arrived. Guy looks more of a president than the orange guy.

I just don't understand what the benefit of bringing in tariffs is, specially to the two closest allies the US has. The CUSMA agreement itself was brought in by Trump.

I hope EU will be also that smart and strong when Trump will set the tariffs here. I mean with words and actions, like in this polite but also strong and honest speech. We are with you and also Mexico and I hope we will become closer allies than we already are! We need each other in this hard times against russia and it seems also against trump.

Actually it’s 50 percent because he made a 25 percent tariff. So now it’s not 25 it’s 50.

I'm from Czech, EU is the next stop for Trump tariffs... Common sense can't be used here when he is convinced which side of the trade war will pay for tariffs.... (and he expressed his 'opinion' on this topic pretty clearly)\n\nEU is bureaucratic mastodon, but I'm still proud that on the right side of the real life values...

Trump doesn't care if his tariffs hurt the American people.

Trump and his crownies is such a nutjob! And those MAGA groupies just keep on thinking, as Trump himself, that tariffs are being paid by the other country! ?? Oooh, Trump, you and the First Lady Elona Musk, are really so out of touch with reality. Greetings to your labradoodle Vance and your puppet master Putin.

In solidarity with Canada I will buy Canadian made products despite any tariffs.

It appears trump is doing just as Putin did when he invaded Ukraine unprovoked. Only difference is trump is using tariffs which is a form of invasion.

in 2013, the United Nations set out a Universal Agenda called the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Right to Health, in this Agenda, which has to be met by 2030, Since 2013, we had the Climate Change hoax that was started by our king while he asked for all financial institution to dish out over $780 billion dollars worth 'green things' which are now going bankrupt, however, he convinced that the earth was going to combust, then we had the COVID, which killed many, so now that those schemes are over, we are slapped with another tax scheme called tariffs. Anyhow, the Agenda said that in order for us to enter 'THE NEW ERA' the natural resources that the Country produces are to be shared for all citizens to enjoy, NOT SHAREHOLDERS!!

Cannot do anything about the tariffs if our government is not in office !!!!!

How in gods name is it possible that this is happening one more time?? Tariffs and appesing a murderous dictator. \nAmericans really need to learn critical thinking, and need to be able to spot a con artist. \nThe democrats really need to understand their voters better, to prevent this from happening again. \n\nCanada Europe is with you.

Canada’s Retaliation Against the Smoot-Hawley Tariff (1930)\nOne of the most immediate and severe retaliatory responses to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff came from Canada, which was heavily dependent on trade with the United States. Canada was the largest export market for U.S. goods at the time, and when the U.S. imposed high tariffs on Canadian imports, Canada responded with its own punitive tariffs on American products.\n\nBackground: U.S.-Canada Trade Before Smoot-Hawley\nIn 1929, about 75% of Canadian exports went to the U.S.\nCanada was also a major supplier of lumber, wheat, cattle, and minerals to American markets.\nThe two economies were deeply intertwined, and Canada had traditionally followed a low-tariff trade policy with the U.S.\nCanada’s Response: Retaliatory Tariffs (1930)\nPrime Minister R.B. Bennett responded to Smoot-Hawley by raising tariffs on American goods, specifically targeting products from the U.S. Midwest and industrial centers.\nCanada increased tariffs on over 16 U.S. goods, including:\nFarm machinery\nAutomobiles\nFruits and vegetables\nTextiles\nThese tariffs redirected Canadian trade away from the U.S. and toward Britain and other Commonwealth nations, under a new imperial preference system.\nEconomic Consequences\nFor the United States:\n❌ Sharp decline in U.S. exports to Canada\n\nU.S. exports to Canada dropped by 55% between 1929 and 1932.\nAmerican automobile and farm equipment industries suffered severe losses.\nMany Midwest farmers, who had relied on Canadian sales, went bankrupt.\n❌ Loss of a major trading partner\n\nCanada sought alternative suppliers in Britain, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations.\nThis permanently weakened U.S.-Canada economic ties, forcing the U.S. to reconsider its trade policies.\nFor Canada:\n✅ Diversification of Trade\n\nCanada strengthened trade ties with Britain and other Commonwealth countries.\nCanadian exports to Britain increased, helping Canada avoid complete economic collapse.\n❌ Short-term economic pain\n\nWhile Canada successfully retaliated, the tariffs raised prices for Canadian consumers.\nThe Canadian economy still suffered from the global depression, but it recovered faster than the U.S. by diversifying trade.\nLong-Term Impact\nPermanent Shift in Canadian Trade Policy\n\nCanada moved away from dependence on the U.S. and pursued closer economic ties with Britain.\nThis weakened U.S. economic influence in Canada for decades.\nRepeal of Smoot-Hawley and the Start of U.S. Trade Liberalization\n\nThe failure of Smoot-Hawley contributed to the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (1934) under Franklin D. Roosevelt, which lowered tariffs and encouraged bilateral trade deals.\nU.S.-Canada trade eventually recovered, but the economic damage lasted for years.\nConclusion\nThe U.S. intended to protect its industries, but Smoot-Hawley backfired by provoking Canada’s retaliation. This case study highlights how tariffs can damage relationships with key trading partners, disrupt industries, and reduce exports, ultimately harming the economy.

I am a Canadian with close family in the U.S. Unfortunately even if the tariffs are reversed and the rhetoric tones down I don't see Canadians trusting the U.S. again anytime soon. A fundamental connection has been broken.

Tariffs are acceptable IF the taxpayers get the equivalent amount off their tax liabilities. If not... it's a cash grab by ANY government from their own people.
|

Let's make this crystal clear. Donald Trump has declared a trade war with Canada not America. The Trump Tariffs and the Trump Alienation of our allies is a betrayal of America and it's citizens. The vast majority of Americans are against these actions and stand with our allies. Free nations do what needs to be done but please do not cast blame on those Americans who reject this administration wholeheartedly. The Trump administration DOES NOT represent America they are BETRAYERS!

Trudeau keeps saying Canada is the US’s closest partner and ally. Hasn’t the US proved in the last year and a half at least that it’s actually “israel”?\n\nPlus with the US in trillion dollar debt, and billion dollar obligations to israel, how else must they keep up? Tariffs on other countries! ? the art of the deal.

Even though we as Americans might disagree with President Trump, we have to stand firm on some things here, the way PM Trudeau came on here and reversed this tariffs on the US after all we done with this is still an attack on us, we have to think broader and wider, I am a 22 year retired Navy vet and seen how these countries treat us and we have been taken advantage of, it’s time we stand firm. I love my Canadian brothers and sisters, but this more a government issue here.

Let me guess the orange clown's reponse....\n\nCanada started the tariff war.\nTrudeau is a dictator.\nHe isn't flying the US flag behind him.\nHis socks have not been ironed.\nOh...and he didn't say thank you.\n\nCanada loves Americans BUT hates the orange clown.

Trudeau is a clown, he prorougued our government so that he could illegally install a replacement for himself, He is happy about the tariffs, it works right along with his plan to destroy Canada, redistribute wealth to the elites that he rubs cocks with!

When do we start talking about the carbon tax this guy is putting on Canadians next month? I believe this is going to do more damage to Canadian families than the tariffs.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
You know… I couldn’t really afford to buy food and survive before the tariffs anyways. That’s why I’m getting sicker and not better. Seniors and disabled Canadians couldn’t survive on $400 or less a month, with regular pricing. Tariffs are only going to make more apparent what was already there, and give politicians a scapegoat, now that they’re forced to pay attention to poverty. Kind of like how Covid became the scapegoat for negligent and non existent health care.

United States will take parody with Canada as far as tariffs are concerned. We just want fair trade. The deals signed by United States were bad deals. We just want fair and even trade. We will be back to normal soon as we make tariffs equal on both sides. We love Canadians, we just want even tariffs. Peace out

Being neighbors Mexico and Canada there should be 0 % tariffs between all 3 countries Trump's tarriffs are retaliation because these countries have tariffs on the u.s because of their government greed and is allowing drugs to flow through the border and illegal migrants just to weakn America and getting rich from the tariffs they have on America
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Our tariffs won't be an issue. Canadians stopped buying american a while ago.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
There were two things that Canada had to do to avoid Trump's tariffs. Increase our Defense spending and stop the flow of drugs and illegal aliens entering the US thru Canada. Trudeau only talked about the drug issue. If Trudeau cancels the $ 40 Billion unsolicited contract to SNC Lavalin, and instead gives that $ 40 Billion to Canada's military to buy new weapons and train more soldiers Trump will, I am positive, immediately drop the tariffs against Canada!

He is working like a true Demonrat. They lie blame for his own doing. Where was your friendship Trudeau when your corrupt friend Biden inflated the Americans people? You didn't want to meet with Mr. Trump (who you say is your friend) to make fair and balanced trade. That seems like a one-sided friendship and we are about COMMON SENSE. Trudeau, you are putting Americans and Canadians through this because you don't want to see that Mr. Trump just wants fairness and for some reason you want tariff wars. That's the truth and you need to start speaking truth and quit misleading people with lies! That's why the democrats have been defeated because they are corrupt and they lie to the people.

The USA is loosing his nearest allies this way by imposing tariffs and by siding with the enemy Putin. Trump is also alienating his own people by destroying the USA from within.
|

Justin, I thought you already resigned? Why you still speaking? But anyway, good luck to you. What Pres Trump request is not a rocket science. Well, you tariffs USA ?? as well, we just reciprocate the deal.

I thought the fentanyl originates from China, yet Trump's tariffs on China are 10% vs. the 25% on Canada and Mexico. Why is Trump sucking up so hard on Russia and China?
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I feel sorry for Canada. But what will these tariffs do to weaker Mexico? Do Americans really think that impoverishing Mexico will lead to less criminality and immigration from Mexico? This is crazy.
