My parents couldn't raise that kind of money to pay for me to study in another country, or even in my own country. Life isn't fair, but Canadians need priority to be housed in Canada. India has very good schools at affordable prices for Indians, and also very high prices for international students. I looked into studying in India and I couldn't afford it as an International student. India should re evaluate its priorities, before spending billions on space programs. India should also decide who it wants to be friends with. I am sure there are lots of good schools in Russia, who right now it prefers over the West.

Everyone has an opinion about this, but the only fact that really matters is what people actually do. Currently about 10X as many Canadians per capita move to the US as Americans move to Canada. There really isn't much else to say. Canadians will always imagine themselves to be better, but the reality is people prefer to live in the US, including a lot of Canadians. Other than marriage, there's little to entice an American to move to Canada and the statistics bear this out.

I mean the native tribals must be arguing that the great continent their ancestors knew back 400 years ago is not feeling whatever they called it back then. Funnily enough I have a deep sympathy about the immigration crisis in UK and all of Europe. But this is weirdly hillarious. Sorry I know I don't understand the issue enough. I am an EU citizen, moved initially from Romania to Czech republic, where I was for 2 years and then last year I decided to give Germany a try. Given that the SW engineering field that I am part of allows me to live comfortably in most EU countries, I am planning to relocate back to CZ or Romania within max 2 years. I was pretty much shocked to find out that compared to the costs, the salary isn't all that great vs living in a bigger Romanian city and that it's a complete downgrade vs Czech Republic, and I'm saying this as someone who lived in Prague of all places. \nOverall, salary aside, everything has been a downgrade for me vs Romania and significantly worse vs Czech Republic. \nI guess nationalist germans will be happy to hear this, one less immigrant willing to stay here and convincing others at the same skill tier to try any other EU country(minus bulgaria and austria).

I think the main reason that every thing is too expensive is our money isn't worth anything anymore , and that's the government's fault . You can't print money without end without devaluing the money that already exists .

I was visiting when I felt sick. I came home asap. Turned out I had a tumour on my brain stem. Thankfulness. 4 surgical teams, 10 hr surgery, 1wk in hosp, months of homecare, rehab and follow up mri and care. Yikes. My sis moved down in 1976, was good when she was in her 30’s while she worked. Her husband, American, went off on Canadian disability and once my sister retired their healthcare costs were crazy. They moved to a state that had better senior med care. I was visiting four yrs ago. My sis had several hosp visits due to heart issues. She ended up having open heart surgery. The hospital was lovely. Care was great. Pt care room was huge. I was used to tight icu cubicles. She had complications, day 4 the social worker came to tell her she was being discharged the next day. Her insurance had run out. There was no further coverage!!! She was in her 80’s had just had a stent blow thru her R coronary artery 5 days earlier then have bypass surgery and had just come off a ventilator the day before. I had to get back to Canada the next day. Thankfully, the social worker was able to continue working to find respite care at a nursing home for her for a couple more wks. \n\nI love certain parts of the states having spent a majority of my childhood visiting since my big sister moved there. Both countries are having issues now. Housing sucks in canada. If you aren’t doing well financially, canada isn’t all that great anymore either.

Trudeau says we need more people in health care, but we aren't bringing in the right people to fill those gaps. We are bringing in uneducated people to fill fast food jobs. That's not going to make Canada a strong economically stable country. Instead of pandering to the businesses that want to stay open 7 days a week and need these low level employees, it would be preferable to return to a system where everything isn't open 24/7 requiring all of these low level positions ti be filled.

For licensed doctors I would think that the 4 years would be a snap if you already know the material but beside that , if they went back because they could work in their field in there home country then why did they come here in the first place. Obviously it wasn't violence or fear for their lives.\n If they come here and enjoy the first years but then the reality kicks in when the benefits stop that they may have to work for minimum wage and they now know that a person making minimum wage in Canada is makes you homeless, can't afford a car or the gas, insurance and can only buy food , that they realize that they were better off where they were. I was born, educated, and brainwashed in the USA (without my consent). I moved to Canada for a career opportunity in 1972. Best life improvement I ever made. There isn’t any way I would even consider going back to the USA. Too dangerous, much less freedom, too many ignorant, rude people.

Canada was taking in 300,000 new Canadians each year, year after year. And during that time new housing starts declined.\n\nIt isn't rocket surgery. Maybe we could take a breather, and build some housing. Then think about immigration.

No, the US doesn’t have universal health care but there are insurance plans and the care is enormously better. My girlfriend had 4th stage throat cancer. In Calgary the doctors at some point told her there was nothing more they could do for her and to get her affairs in order. Her father sent her to the Anderson Clinic in Houston - yes it was expensive but they treated her, saved her life and that was 24 years ago. \nIt’s common in our emergency rooms to wait up to 12 hours to be seen. \nOur system isn’t progressive and doctors and nurses don’t get paid near as well as in the States. That being said, I am happy that I don’t have to pay to see the doctor or have a stay in the hospital. \nCost of Living: Once upon a time it was good - housing was cheap and many companies had the full range of benefits and salaries were equal to the cost of living. Now these same companies have stripped the benefits by hiring people under contract so they don’t have to give them benefits. \nRents are through the roof and in Calgary there are no rent caps. Buying a decent house in a decent neighbourhood is impossible unless you inherit or make a six figure income. This, in no small part, has created a homelessness crisis that never had been seen in such numbers before. Crime also is getting worse by the day. Canada was once known as a safe country. This is no longer the case.\nEverything is very expensive and the tax very high. Plus, we have to suffer winter! Where I live, the joke is that we have two seasons - July and winter!\nI still like my city (not love) but I am retired and own two houses - one inherited and the other bought when it was affordable (32 years ago). Calgary would not be a place I would live if I was a newcomer. Vancouver is beautiful but you really pay for it. \nTrudeau has helped make a big mess of things with immigration and lax criminal laws. My beef is not with immigrants I must state - it is with the lack of jobs for them when they come, thereby forcing bad living conditions and an over reliance on the social systems. I add that the immigration population is much more willing to work in jobs they have to take (despite a high education) than our natural and bloated citizens.\nSo yes, Canada has increasingly gone downhill. On a positive note, hand guns at least are not legal and our country has beautiful natural land.
