Yes, let the bankrupt Canada who is taxing their own people into poverty start a trade war instead of just complying. What a good idea, Fidel Jr.?

This trade war is a betrayal. 150years of good will thrown down the drain. This hurts both sides and is unnecessary and based off a complete lie

Both Canada and Mexico have done everything to work together with U.S. - we are the 3 amigos and trade partners. I cant believe this is happening, hopefully it will all resolve each other. We are not enemies, we are the closest countries not only in geography, but in history, culture, and trade.

My fellow Canadians, stay strong, when we come together as one we are capable of surviving anything.\n\nThis will not be an easy time, help each other and we can get through this trade war. Together.

Canada started a trade war a long time ago. \nDairy Products:\nCheese - 245%\nMilk - 270%\nButter - 298%\nPoultry - 238%\nEggs - 163%\nBarley - 160%\nWheat - 94%\nSugar - 265%\nPeanut Butter - 295%\nRice - 150%\nVegetables - 100%\nFish Products - 100%\nLumber - 20%\nShoes - 30%\nCocoa - 30%\nMetals - 25%\nWool - 30%\nTobacco - $100+% \n\nTrump is actually being VERY NICE with a 25% tariff.

The US has already tried the Tariff experiment.....\nTariffs in 30's by the US contributed to the great depression
\nSmoot–Hawley Tariff Act. The Tariff Act of 1930 (codified at 19 U.S.C. ch. 4), commonly known as the Smoot–Hawley Tariff or Hawley–Smoot Tariff, was a law that implemented protectionist trade policies in the United States\nAnd obviously that didn't work, quite the opposite!\nDeliberate Economic Sabotage?\nSo much for Trump saying historically the American economy did the best under tariff policies\nTo make smart decisions you should also pay regard to history

As an American, who did not vote for trump i side with our neighbors in Canada, then and now. America should maintain and further their status as leader of the free world and free trade. Not try to bully other countries, especially not our neighbors and allies.

I voted for Trump but strongly disagree with these Tarrifs. The administration has a limited timeframe to encourage foreign investment in U.S. manufacturing. However, the uncertainty surrounding these trade policies could deter such investments, as companies may hesitate to commit resources without assurance of long-term stability. Additionally, there's no guarantee that future administrations will maintain these policies, potentially reversing any progress made. This unpredictability could hinder the intended economic growth and job creation.

People, this trade war is just another transfer of wealth. It hurts ”the families”, that s correct, while these parrots are stuck to their selfish enriching agenda. New increases in prices… but the inflation is stable …

Look how he uses the term “Trade War” they started propaganda to start economic war. Our nation USA is only looking for its best interest for its nation and people. We are loving the Golden Age. Canada looks ridiculous with starting a TRADE WAR… not USA ??. Canada is retaliating. Simple.

You and your country are admirable! I am an American and I completely oppose what the Trump administration is doing with these tariffs. I will be buying Canadian and Mexican whenever possible, and have changed my European vacation plans to spend my vacation dollars in Canada this spring and in Mexico this fall.\n\nI am impressed with the alternative trade agreements Canada is developing. Too many Americans are willfully ignorant and do not understand the negative effects that tariffs and trade wars have. They will learn soon enough!

Canada, come and trade with us here in the UK instead! You're valued members of the Commonwealth and we love you!

Trump is a fool. The U.S. traded energy with Canada and Mexico. They will find other markets but the U.S is stuck.

As an American Citizen, I for one hope we get through this tariff thing pretty quickly. Apologies for the trade war. Sad panda. This one voter had no interest whatsoever in trade war.

Hilarious when Canada goes into depression. Remember Trudeau did that to you instead of fair trade he chose to plummet the Canadian Economy we can get all our resources domestically and pay a little bit more. You're a joke Trudeau

Thank you, Mr. Trudeau. The dumbest trade war started by the dumbest American president.

America flourished most after abandoning conservative 1940s-style protectionism in the decades following World War II, particularly during the postwar economic boom of the 1950s and 1960s. This period saw the rise of progressive free trade agreements, global economic cooperation, and industrial expansion.\n\nKey moments include:\n\t•\tThe General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) (1947) – This laid the foundation for reducing global trade barriers, leading to increased economic growth.\n\t•\tThe Marshall Plan (1948) – Rebuilding war-torn Europe created strong economic ties and markets for American goods.\n\t•\tThe postwar boom (1950s-60s) – Rising wages, a strong middle class, and industrial growth were fueled by global trade and increased productivity.\n\t•\tThe creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) (1995) – Building on GATT, the WTO further expanded global trade opportunities for the U.S.\n\nIn contrast, returning to outdated protectionist policies today risks reversing decades of progress, leading to economic stagnation, inflation, and weakened global influence.

México nowdays has a efficient, knowledgeable. and honest president that wanted to have fair trade agreements with Canada and the United States ...however the US government choose to fight and blame the neighbors to the north and south by braking every single rule of the free trade among the three countries ......CHINA , CANADA AND MEXICO ....oviously will retaliate the same way and Definitely the US citizens will be the most hurt ....mexico always have been resilient from wars. Pandemics , bad politicians , economy , etc etc etc ....mexicans have the strength to recovery sooner than later and this one won't be diffrent .....mexico will continue to have agreements with Europe. Asia , and Latin America with the option to have talks with bricks ...we all know the world is totally diffrent.now .....The 1800s are gone and will never come back that's for sure !!

We non-crazy people have to adopt the autarky strategy to make ourselves independent of the crazy people. In Germany we say „separating the wheat from the chaff“.? As long as the main trade rule, that we are all profiting from trade, is not sufficiently understood… Global prosperity would always be the better choice and we have backwards development. Inacceptable for young world citizens.

The majority of US citizens stand with Canada, Ukraine and Europe. We are experiencing a coup and have been betrayed by all 3 branches of our government. We don’t even know if our own military would defend us or attack us with trump as commander in chief. We are concerned that peaceful protests would be met with our military shooting us. \nWe know this trade war is stupid and has nothing to do with fentanyl. We are trying desperately to stop this coup so I beg you, Canada do not judge us as complicit with trump. We are willing to suffer to support your resistance to us in order to stand up to this horrible president.

This guys ego is the reason Zelenskyy is not interested in negotiating. A wise men would simply negotiate a way out of this instead of fighting with your biggest trade partner.

This administration hasnt got the faintest idea with what theyre doing with our relationships with these countries. This trade war, i hope these countries will see it as only as a temporary setback that only reflects the currernt administration decisions and not us the people. Whoever comes into office next has a lot of cleaning up to do

Long-term, nobody will trust the USA after this. US voters cannot be allowed to destroy trade, democracy and peace worldwide. All Western democracies will work towards insulating themselves from US influence, and that will impact the standards of living inside the US. The US will have to ally with Arab, Russian & Chinese 'friends' to survive, and that will remove the US from any semblance of a country guided by human morals, much less, the Christian religion.

Anti-Americanism? Really? This is a direct response to the United States' recent stance against the world itself. Canada isn't at fault, nor should it be held responsible for this trade war.

Where is the US media asking Trump how a trade war with Canada benefits people in the US? Where is the US media asking why Trump is siding with Russia on Ukraine and at the UN? The US media has proven themselves cowards.

Both the United States and Canada lose in the trade war, but China wins.

The United States did not start a trade war. Donald Trump started it. Millions of Americans do not believe that tariffs or economic sanctions are necessary or a good idea. On behalf of all decent Americans who believe that our government is in the wrong, we apologize for our president’s behavior.

As a Mexican, i hope that the TMEC between our countries is still in place, in spite of the US abandonment. US trade with Mexico in 2024 was 840 billion and with Canada 762 Billion. US is turning its back on its closest allies.

Tough talk from a SISSY who was trading friendship brackets with TEENAGE LITTLE GIRLS, at a Taylor Swift concert in Toronto, while Palestinian reprobates were rioting in Montreal. TRU-dough didn’t start real changes at the US/Cdn ( states borders ) until TRUMP trumped the drama school teacher ! So says a Canada who will vote TRUMP ! Seems that TDS has seriously infected the Castro Frog.

How can one even measure the decrease in Fentanyl coming from Canada. Ridiculous excuse for creating a stupid trade war. What is the benefit of all these Tariffs, seems to be just downsides.

The irony of POTUS saying that the current trade deal we have with both Canada and Mexico was terrible and the worst but was made and signed by him and his administration. In 2018 but ?? ??

Please PM Trudeau, it's not the United States who wants to Trade War, It's Trump and his incompetency. Trump is not thinking about the wellbeing of the Americans......

Let’s see. I think the biggest contributor of the inflation is from the government spending and the gap on the trade deficit. Long term it will help US GDP

So America is taxing nearly 700 billion dollars 25% of trade for $10-20 street value of fentynal in January?
|

Maybe Canada should say thank you for the trade and the US regime would be happy..

I'm usually reasonable enough to realize that while I may disagree with many policy decisions, there's usually a relatively coherent line of thought to back said actions up. The problem here is that there’s no clear logic behind using tariffs as a tool to curb fentanyl trafficking or immigration. I'm not going to speak on the issue of immigration at the Canadian border because there simply is none. Yes, there are illegals from Canada, but almost 100% of them are from overstaying visas rather than crossing the border unlawfully. So let's talk about fentanyl. \n\nMost fentanyl in the US originates from China, often in precursor form, and is then processed in Mexico before being smuggled into the states. But it's typically trafficked in small, high potency quantities, often hidden in legitimate shipments or through mail, and only on very rare occasions is it being brought in by individuals crossing the border. It has _never_ been documented to have shipped in as part of large scale commercial imports, so a 25% tariff on legal trade with Canada and Mexico doesn’t directly target the black market supply chain at all.\n\nIf we take Trump’s reasoning at face value, the argument seems to be that he wants to exert economic pressure on Mexico and Canada as a means of having them crack down harder on drug trafficking networks. But the issue is that fentanyl simply isn’t coming in through mass import channels, so all this looks like is a punitive measure without a clear mechanism to actually achieve its stated goal. And the implications? Drastically higher costs for consumers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Canada needs to understand that they don’t hold a leg to stand on. Put a trade embargo on Canada! We don’t need Canada. Canada will collapse!
