I work with a variety of people from all races and ages in my field. I wonder how much of how people treat individuals have to do with how booked they are. Regardless of a person’s race, I notice that if I am short on time or have back to back appointments \n, that I am not as attentive or as interested in people. However, if I limit myself to three appointments a day, I am an attentive and genuinely want to do my best at my job. So, because I know this about myself, I choose to limit my schedule to three appointments a day unless I absolutely cannot prevent it. I am a minority, too, and have been profiled left and right. My husband is Caucasian and thinks it’s in my head, but he can look like a bum and not be profiled whereas if I am not dolled up going to the store, you better believe I know not to put my hands in my pockets.

Its dangerous. I am from a muslim community, but I am not a islamic believer. We usually wear doti to outside and will fold it above knee. I am from kerala. When i was studying in hyderabad. When i went outside with doti folding above knee. Some people wearing skull cap called me and asked me to unfold the doti and cover lower part of leg and they was very angry. I'm a Dominican and I do not believe in racism but people actions are to blame. I was a security guard and I overwhelmingly caught 49 African American and 2 latinos so as a latino I don't discriminate I just observe the way people act in public..misjudge an individual for the mistakes of others is wrong

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

No amount of videos will make people believe in systematic racism being an issue. I don't care about being disliked but discriminated is a problem. These videos just anger people in denial they don't make them aware. I'm a Black male in Toronto and I deal with microaggressions when I leave my house every day and most importantly from other minorities as well. Let's discuss that also. Hello, I just watched your video. Three years after you made it. I hope you are still with us and a very belated Welcome. Many people throughout the world seem to have so many stereotypes about Americans. Whether it is good or bad there typically is some truth in a stereotype. Overall it seems like you are enjoying yourself and no matter what there is no place like home. I would think no matter what your current situation is you still miss Canada as I would miss the United States if I were to move to Canada. \nA couple things you mentioned in the video were not correct and as with anything there may be a little truth in the matter but yet still incorrect.\nThose who do not have health insurance are not charged or taxed $150 monthly. There is a provision in the affordable care act (ACA) that penalizes certain individuals who make above a certain dollar amount. The amount is either $150 or $300 for the entire year. I concur any monetary penalty against anyone for not having health insurance is outrageous. I could be wrong but I believe this aspect of the ACA was never implemented under President Obama and it was indefinitely suspended or revoked by President Trump. I also feel like I need to address your thoughts about the United States all about war. I believe the American people are like most other people and want peace and civility. The government and major defense contractors have differing opinions at times. Of course there is plenty of people who are war hawks but they are in the minority. Most of us are absolutely sick of war. We currently have been at war for almost 19 years. That's six complete world war 2's in their entirety. \nI think you were being awfully generous when you said obesity is on par with the rest of the world!! Unfortunately there is far to many fat people here and the problem is only getting worse because the media says be happy and proud you are fat. Celebrating obesity is absolutely insane and it sends the wrong message to young people. If a close one is fat of course I love them but I also tell them privately that they are a walking heart attack. We need to have a little bit of compassion for Muslims who are struggling with this. Imagine that you were born into Islam. You didn't ask for it. You just happened to be unlucky enough to be born into a Muslim country and raised under it. It's not their fault that they believe what they believe. \nWe need to help them to free them from the chains of Islam. The way to help them and free them from Islam is by educating them with the truth. It's difficult for them to accept because they have devoted their entire life to it. That computer test proves nothing...people relate to people who are most similar to them. Period. \n\nLets pull the data on how many black people discriminate against black people. For example, do black landlords who own and rent expensive apartments treat every applicant the same? Will they accept more whites or more blacks? Will they show preference to people with higher incomes? What about single moms? The disabled? I am an old bearded Caucasian with a cane who often shops at a Korean market in my area in downtown Vancouver. At one point they had a black security officer who would consistently follow me anytime I entered the store. I finally reached a point where I jokingly confronted him and told him if he insisted on following me I was going to get him to help me by carrying things. He never followed me again but we would always smile at each other and laugh when I came to shop. I believe his attitude was based on my appearance and perceived economic status rather then race.\nHaving said this I have also gone shopping at other Asian markets with my children, who are half Chinese, and been followed by the Caucasian security people while my kids were not.

People think that living in foreign countries us good and relaxing and you enjoy a lot. Well this is not true. I have one of my friends who told me the way he lives and works and studies in Canada. Believe me, you won't like to hear what he told me. He does two part time jobs starting from morning to afternoon at 3 and does another one from 4 to 8 and he barely gets 4 to 5 hours to study. At times when there are exams or tests in the college, he has to skip the work and go to the College but when he skips, he feels from deep inside that for today I don't have even this amount of money and believe me, staying in Canada or any other county is not as easy as eating a plate of rice and on the first time when you go to look for a job, you will get it at McDonald's or any type of restaurants. And the work my friend does is to cut meat at McDonald's in Canada.

I believe everyone should be allowed to come to America as free as they would like to, with the exceptions of European and white people who the same people as the ones who invaded America and stole America from the original owners.
