Uhhh that was a shocker, thanks for sharing this. Vancouver is ten times worse, what I have seen through YouTube videos. Then through the fires in BC and Alberta many people are now homeless and displaced. The housing crises has now gotten unmanageable. For us Canadians who would love to return to Canada, since I got away from my abuser, it is impossible. I'm very discouraged and hopeless, and believe we might never return to Canada to live. It is absolutely shocking how the country has changed for the worse under the Trudeau Government.

When I was young I used to fantasise about going to Toronto Canada as I have some cousins who lived there. Today this makes me quite sad but it is a similar situation here in Sydney Australia but a few years behind you guys but affordable housing is a big issue and a small but growing homeless issue Rising. We don't have the extreme random violence like in Canada but stuff like that does happen in all major industrialised cities around the world. Growing population without good healthcare and infrastructure is a major issue in a lot of big cities around the world.\nWe have a government that wants to increase the population and at the same time acknowledge the fact that we don't have the infrastructure to cope for that and also squeezing that big population in a smaller and smaller space of course causing greater mental issues as a result

And thats a big part of the problem... refugees and too many immigrants...The government needs to reduce the number of people coming into the country until housing catches up

I had lived in TO from 2000 to 2005 and had seen a trajectory of high housing costs and increased crime rate back then . Leaving was the decision I did not regret since these same issues have become worse. I am disappointed with the government at all levels, who have done nothing to solve these problems. COVID is used as an excuse, but the reality is that during COVID the housing market boom ? while many people were unemployed, it is perplexing.

Every man deserves the right to feed himself and house himself. When we deprive any human being of that natural right, things like this occur. No one should be begging for a job to sustain themselves. It should be our RIGHT to work. As a planet, we need to address this issue. Everybody would be fine in their own country if their natural right to work to LIVE wasn’t stripped away from them. Same as the United States. We shouldn’t be begging anyone to work for money. A job to live and thrive should be everybody’s right. This way of governance is going to soon come to an end.

A lot of people are definitely NOT okay with working 40 hrs a week(not counting unpaid lunches) for basically pennies, only having 2 weeks per year minimum for any paid time off and having to live paycheck to paycheck just to have a roof over their heads. They probably don’t appreciate losing their jobs for trying to form unions to advocate for the slaves who can’t even afford to get their car or house fixed, while watching spoiled rich kids living in luxury online and they probably wish their government would take a stand against these corrupt, rich people.

The main problem in Canada is you keep toiling year after year but you cannot really see you achieve a life where you are secure that you have made it. Cold weather, there are many cold countries like Scandinavian countries etc. but even migrants stay put because one's life improved. Canada just wanted to extract money from foreigners like international students, migrants without or even PRs but the promised benefits are in fact also gotten from them due to the many stiff taxes, & not really from the gov't. My nephews & niece supposedly given education but those are loans that must be paid after graduation. But the problem is there are no jobs even if they graduated with flying colors and nice courses. It was said work is easier if already citizens and studied there but no use. If there are jobs, so many asked like work history, credit background how can they have it when they just graduated so accepted jobs for undergraduates like mopping floors, fastfood crew & entailed years, so how can the payback be with just minimal earnings? Canada just make slaves of migrants with nothing done in their lives but work, work, work no spare time to rest then taxes, taxes, taxes. No savings even if very thrifty. Everything has tax - Exorbitant income taxes, home tax, rent tax, car tax, insurance tax, bank account tax, electricity tax, internet tax, cellphone tax, and many more. Slaves because you only live to sustain the government BUT YOU CANNOT RECEIVE THE PROMPT AND COMPLETE SERVICES promoted. So people got depressed and unhappy especially with the gloomy cold weather. It's not like jobs in other countries or even in one's home country where even if you toiled hard and made sacrifices, you moved forward by assets acquired like lots, houses, big bank account balances but no, in Canada you can't, it must all go to the Govt. It's like Communism.

Until you experience the horrors they have gone through don’t throw stones in glass houses the immigration system has been broken for years if people waited until it’s their time no one would realistically get through since there is a 20 year backlog and children who were brought here 20 years ago have been thrown out because they themselves were still not approved a decade or more later. Part of the issue is red state lax gun laws allowing cartels easy access to heavy machinery that can be taken back across the border. I’m born & raised in Montreal, Quebec and while it’s extremely multicultural and has an incredible education system, we have been experiencing a continuous housing crisis. Every year the rent prices and general cost of living are skyrocketing yet wages remain the same. It’s actually becoming a huge problem in Montreal. Young people are being pushed out as prices are starting to little by little be comparable to Toronto. \nAnd don’t get me started on the hate Anglophones receive here. Even Montreal natives like myself who are historically English get discriminated against every day. \nThe Quebec government is pushing the English language out of Quebec, making it harder and harder for Anglophones to be able to function and live practically here. You can’t even go to the hospital and get service. If you don’t speak French you can’t call and speak with any government services, and even businesses are forced to have French names, and only conduct their business in the French language. \nI myself am bilingual, but for someone who doesn’t speak the language, or is learning having trouble it’s nearly impossible to live in Quebec as they wouldn’t even be able to get a job. The discrimination Anglophones receive is insane and we are seen as a ‘bottom of the barrel’ minority, which is so sad seeing that this is where I was born and raised and where I call my home. \nThey’re taking away more and more public & social services and literally funnelling multi millions of dollars of funding , which is desperately needed for homelessness and many other social problems we have within Montreal and it’s all now going towards pushing the French language in Montreal (we literally have what’s called the ‘language police’ who’s job is to enforce French. They will give businesses thousands of dollars of tickets and even shut them down all because someone is caught speaking English) \nHopefully something will change soon or else Montreal is going to continue to become a place completely taken over by hate and discrimination and it will experience a MASS exodus (which is already starting).

It”s cold sleep outside in Canada, because the temperature is low. Why not government build some more houses for those poor people live inside? Life in Nigeria is only decent for those living affluently in Lekki, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, certain areas of Ikeja and Abuja. Outside of that, life for everyday Nigerians is crap. Water & electricity (NEPA) are highly unreliable & intermittent, so fuel-powered generators are a necessity for living everyday life per household or per apartment in apartment complexes. The banking & government systems are notoriously sluggish, taking weeks and months to process simple paperwork such as drivers licenses, passports, certificates, banking transaction reversals, you name it. Bribery is a daily occurrence EVERYWHERE. Police (if you can call them that, mostly untrained thugs) detain & extort motorists and/or people innocently going about their daily lives, just for the money. Many many many people disappear mysteriously without ever being seen again by family or friends. Lots of inter-racial discrimination and animosity between the three major tribes that make up Nigeria… Yoruba, Igbo & Hausa-Fulani. The federal & state governments are horribly corrupt, bordering on dictatorship. Elections are undemocratic, to say the least, with thugs threatening voters at voting booths. I could go on?\n\nThis is why many Nigerians with any amount of wealth live in diaspora, whether that be the UK, Canada, the USA, Europe, or wherever. And, yeah, be prepared for everything being structured & organized in these countries, especially in North America. The cost of living is definitely higher to pay for a higher quality of living. That’s the difference between a developed country vs a country, such as Nigeria, that’s developing or considered ‘third-world’. This is not normal conditions even to those of us natural-born here. So, we feel for immigrants who have arrived in good faith in the last few years. In Nigeria, You can be a graduate of a medical field with BSC or higher or Even a bachelor's of Law and still be jobless for several years unless you are self employed or have a strong connection, a friend of mine has a undergraduate degree in medicine but works as a shoe maker seeing there is no Job available and she skilled in shoe Making trade. The unemployment rate here has been increasing rapidly and on top of that the cost of living dosen't make up for that, even cost of living going high where no one understands and of course you have the bad governance to blame for that. Education system is here is also terrible, why would one be spending 8 years for a 5 year course due to Asuu strike, all these little things can be overlooked by the government but they are part of what dampens the growth of the economy NGL.\n\nNot saying Canada dosen't have it own downfalls, it does like the housing crisis and all but IMO I see they still strive better, one of which would include bringing in foreign workers of skilled Trade to help improve the economy, they go as far as sponsoring visa application and the employers go as far as getting LMIA for foreign workers and the health care system appears to be more stable based on what I have experienced. The educational system is also okay, my sis got funding worth $15k for her tuition whereas her tuition is $20k, they already paid up to 75% of it for her Thesis, mind you I said funding not scholarship, they are totally different. \n\nNot tryna criticize either country before some trolls attack me in my comment section but am only stating my experience and what has been happening in both sides of the fence, it as easy as that.

Veterans and homeless come first. Maybe they should build more affordable housing instead of $3000 a month condos and build more hospitals We've been short on doctors /nurses and beds for the past 3 years and the government has done nothing to address the issues. It is a real problem for the people when the temperature drops to -30C. Mental wellness is a huge issue. The racism issue is mainly against the indigenous. The doctor migration to the US is a money thing, not better conditions. Getting a family doctor is easy in some places and difficult in others, generally in rural communities. Getting a reference to a specialist is not an issue and I believe this may be a doctor specific issue. If your GP does not refer you, ER will take care of you. The issue with referrals is the triage system that may result in a longer wait to see the specialist. This is in contrast to the US where one can see a specialist very quickly, if one has insurance. In Canada, every citizen and legal resident has the ability to receive medical care as covered by the provincial medical systems which differs from province to province. Many doctors are now offering online communication with your GP and specialist. Your finance comments are inaccurate. There are 5 nation wide banks but there are also nation wide credit unions and provincial banks which in my opinion these tend to offer better service than the big 5 (exclude National Bank, which is big bank but more investment focused). Cell carrier monopolies is a real issue. Cell carriers are recently offering unlimited data, no long distance to the US, etc. Other countries have a definite advantage here. The government has enabled conditions for a new carrier a few times but eventually, these smaller carriers get swallowed up by the big national carriers. More recently Rogers bought out Shaw which limits our choices further. Sales tax is not always 10-15%. In Alberta the sales tax is 5%. How about a doctor with questionable credentials? Agree with your recommendations for hiring. It is expensive to hire and train a new employee but can be much more expensive to fire an employee. Agree with the housing crisis comments and the reasons. Getting an absent owner to fix a property? This is crazy inaccurate. Multi-dwelling properties have property managers paid to look after the properties regardless of who owns it. While on the average, foreign investment may not seem to contribute to property prices, this is not the case when looking a the local sectors of the big two - Toronto and Vancouver. There was a case in Vancouver where a property with a shack sold for over $1MM. This is not because the house price was unrealistic, but because of the property location and perceived property value. This is a direct result of foreign investment in houses in the Vancouver area resulting in a lack of properties. Many of these foreign owned single family investment properties remain empty most of the year. Another big issue in many Canadian municipalities is the lack of building code enforcement. The laws are in place but not always enforced.

I hate Canada due to housing market and law wages, the day Republicans remove country based quota and add Skill based system, I am moving to USA on next flight!

I wish I wasn’t Canadian sometimes because of the influx of migrants that put too much pressure on our limited ability to integrate them. Partly due limited housing, especially on lower income supply. I know it’s not their fault for trying to get a better life. My recent exposure to the new wave of immigrants many are uncultured when they first arrive, Also adding stress to our failing healthcare system. Some are scamming the employment & welfare system, and get more financial assistance from the government than the people born and raised in the country. As a 25 year old woman living in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, i thankfully have affordable rent and a job with good work life balance and zero debts, but I find saving and getting into the housing market a task more difficult than climbing Mount Everest. If I could get a house my risking my life climbing that death hill, I would, cause it’s much easier than being in a 90 year mortgage which what the government seems to think is a ‘solution’ I’m just about ready to move to the US, where my chances are better ?

Our biggest problem is the amount of foreign investment and the sheer amount of immigration year over year. \n\nThere is some housing available (owned by landlords who own entire complexes) however either the prices are jacked way up or they are converted to a BNB unit which turns canadian home buyers away. \n\nWe do not have the infrastructure to support 500,000 new immigrants with government and native regulations stiffling the means to expand to support the influx of newcomers. The demand on housing has made buying a home impossible in Canada and rents are skyrocketing along with the cost of food! Millions of Canadians no longer have a family Doctor….waiting lists are tremendous…people are not getting the healthcare like in the past. What is the solution to the problem?…the Trudeau government say we need to bring in millions more people to build homes……WHAT? Really? Would you buy 1000 horses or cows without a barn ? NO! Why not put the millions of people you already brought into this country to work building houses instead of working at Walmart or fast food joints or delivering trucks. Low income jobs to keep the companies here happy with cheap labour so they can made big profits instead of paying Canadians a living wage! It is all about moneymaking, greed, and votes, to hell with the taxpayers of Canada!

Utter chaos and they will demand amenities and get housing, SNAP and TANF. This is anarchy and Biden needs to send in the National Guard! Our schools are being overpopulated by immigrant children who get special attention from assigned teachers to teach them English and translate language. In Chicago undocumented persons can now become police. Imagina a non US citizen pulling you over for a traffic citation, he/she broke the law by sneaking into the USA but now can be sworn in as a cop! This is the same crap in my tiny island of Trinidad in the Caribbean, except they come over in boats. There are over 100,000 of them here illegally. Our crime rate was already high but now it's almost uncontrollable. They work for less money, so they are taking away jobs and housing. They send all their money out of the country so our economy is slowly worsening. They get free health care and enjoy everything our citizens get because my government felt sorry for them.

All real estate should be Owner Occupied by law - no rental investors. That would eliminate sky high housing prices. But governments don't care about people - they only care about revenue.

I am disgusted with the pathetic size of the average condo unit, now 493 sq feet.
