My problem with the doom and gloom is people love to blame all our problem on the current PM and “wokeness”. I am not saying JT and the Liberals don’t deserve any criticism they do but all the time it’s for all the wrong reasons. Public Housing is a provincial issue, Healthcare is a provincial issue zoning is a municipal issue. However all of these issues are made worse by lack of public housing funding (looking at you Doug Ford) and nimbyism at the municipal level (looking at you Rob Ford and almost every mayor large Canadian cites have had). My parents hate JT now because property prices came down slightly but they loved him during Covid when prices went through the roof. When the liberals implemented the mortgage stress test they hated him and voted conservative in 2019 because Andrew Scheer went on the news and said he will get rid of it. When the liberals got rid of the stress test on first time homebuyers they loved the liberals again. They are property developers so they don’t mind paving over the Agricultural land reserve but god forbid a fourplex is built in our neighborhood. However I am not too cynical I have seen progress by the current government AFTER THEY WHERE -20pts in the polls. Now I just hope the Tories don’t get rid of the Housing accelerator fund and other funds that will make a impact in 10 years.

Our city governments need to liberalise the housing market, in most cities across Canada it's illegal to build anything other than single family homes. When the developers eventually do push through a multi family building, they have to build a mega tower to offset the costs of the often 2 years approval process. Which makes people hate development more

As a Canadian I can say most of us despise those illegal immigrants, we also hate our dumb softie Liberal government for doing barely nothing, almost even encouraging this and as a result crime rate is goin up in Montreal and other big cities up here. ???

In case anyone is wondering why so many Indians are trying to flee Canada here it is. Under Trudeau and the liberal government Canada was basically giving a free pass to anyone who wants to come to Canada through colleges and universities, if you get into a Canadian school, you can get a study permit (which also allows you to work for 20h a week). Additionally after the schooling you are given a guaranteed work permit for the same duration as the schooling (if you went to school 2 years you get a 2 year permit, 4 years you get a 4 year permit, ect.) A Canada and immigration agencies (for some reason) basically advertised this to India as a guaranteed way to get permanent residence in Canada. Canadians hated the massive flood of people coming into Canada (about a million a year at its peak, which for a smaller country like canada is equivalent to 10 million people coming into the USA every year). This is really unpopular with voters of course (in part because of the housing, food, and low skill work shortages it created), and the next Canadian election is this year. So the conservative government has vowed to massivly decrease the number of immigrants coming into Canada and the Liberal government knowing that this can be used against them in the next election is decreasing the amount of PR cards they are given (like a Canadian green card) as well as the people they are letting in in total. Now as the (mostly Indian) immigrants work permits expire and they will soon be kicked out of the country or no longer legally be allowed to work, they are fleeing to NYC to try to take advantage of the sanctuary city (something that does not exist in Canada).

I agree that once the visa is expired people need to go and honor what they signed for. We are also punishing those people who have done nothing wrong. This is really scary to see in our country. Hold government accountable for what they have done and ourselves accountable for who we elect and how we treat other human beings. We are all humans no matter skin color or where we are born so be kind to each other. How about a few more major reasons why Indian Visas are being rejected by most of the countries. I know a Indian friend who when he was a student due to climate issue got in a delayed flight in UAE, he hates politics but he follows a philosophy that's eye for an eye, and that is if everyone can be a thief nobody will be a thief, if you steel from me, I've the right to do the same, he was denied a 1 day visa by the UAE government and had to stay in the airport for 15 hours, he was angry, while others in the flight was given a 1 day visa, so say 15 years later, he is running his own business abroad, got a chance in open interview to interview students, saw one was a UAE citizen, he never took the interview for him, his philosophy, after 15 hours of waiting, he will take that student's interview, he took other's interview, after time was over he left the office and later the student left, his attitude is he as the right to do the same.

Yeah the government is going hard after immigrants right now, which is good because there was a lot of abuse and the rate of immigration was far too high, but also it's not the root of the problem where housing is concerned. \n\nIn this way, immigrants are a scapegoat for the housing crisis. But at the same time our politicians also hoping that we don't notice how little they're doing to actually solve the real fundamental problems.\n\nBut solving those problems will require a complete shift in our approach to the finance sector and the tax code, as well as towards city planning and housing policy in general. These are things we can achieve. But not without significant adjustments to the status quo. And if there's one thing the status quo hates, it's changes to the status quo.\n\nSo here's what I expect from our politicians in years to come: more of the same empty promises and half measures. They'll keep doing that until there's a massive market correction and everyone in Canada loses their shirt. And then they'll continue doing the same empty promises and half measures, while hypocritically blaming the rival party for their own failures.

My government hates me

I'm an immigrant who came here with my family on a sponsorship program in 2008. Never got in trouble, worked two jobs and busted our asses off to get the citizenship in 2014. What has happened to Canada under Trudeau's incompetent government with his mass immigration policies and taking in low-class South Asians who do nothing but scam their way to the top is nothing but a tragedy. The problem with here is also with Khalistan issue (of course not all Punjabis there want Khalistan and are absolutely chill people and people here in India, Punjabis, also don't want Khalistan, I have some close friends who are Sikh and are most Dildaar, Big-hearted, people I know). Over the years Indian government has warned Canadian government about this issue constantly and after years of housing these Canadian terrorists (because Canada calls them their citizens and protects them, what else can be the correct term for them and nothing like Khalistan exists) they've started to cause problems for the people already living there (like the terrorists Pakistan was housing are causing problems to them). They know they are not gonna get a Khalistan in India so where else are they gonna build it? Voila! Canada! This is the reason behind them not assimilating with the existing culture.Trudeau has even gone to lengths of calling Amit Shah (Home minister of India) and PM Modi (if you don't know what the heck are you doing here go study geopolitics a bit) unalivers of Hardeepsingh Nijjar WITHOUT any evidence (they just keep saying they have it but have shown nothing till now) and because of which Canada has worsened its relations with the Indian Government. They are even comparing India with the likes of North Korea in terms of threat. Indian Government in reply is giving Canada the same treatment it gives to Pakistan (a bit better of course, but the diplomacy has gone to sh it. And the reason why Trudeau is doing all this, yeah VOTES for sh itty domestic politics he's sacrificing long term GOOD relations with the Indian Government. Now, you may think that worsening relations with India is a good thing for Canada, yeah no, its not good because India has trade relations with Canada which may worsen due to this (yeah, great going for an economy which is already in shambles) and UK or US are not gonna do anything to India over Canada because India geopolitically has more significance than Canada (I'm not bragging, please don't misunderstand). This rant has gone to a very different tangent but yeah a lot of problems Canada is having is mainly due to their government. Any of Canadian friends (I have not reason to hate you) and Punjabi brothers/sisters (Yeah, unless you are some sh itty extremist you are a brother/sister to me) please don't take this offensively. THE TARIFF TRUMP WANT TO PUT ON MÉXICO IS NOT EVEN FOR ABOCADOS OR FRUITS THE TARIFF ARE FOR AMERICAN MANUFACTURING COMPANIES THAT ARE IN MÉXICO BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PAY VERY CHEAP SALARIES TO MEXICAN WORKERS AND CELL THEIR TRUCKS AND CARS LIKE IF THEY PAY USA SALARIES VERY EXPENSIVE CARS AND TRUCKS VERY LOW WAGES FOR MEXICAN WORKERS THE TARIFF ARE NOT FOR THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT IS FOR AMERICAN COMPANIES SO THEY CAN AND WILL COME BACK TO THE USA AND THE SAME TARIFF WILL BE APPLIED TO CHINA SO THAT AMERICAN MANUFACTURING COMPANIES CAN AND WILL COME BACK TO THE USA CAN CNN UNDERSTAND THAT OF COURSE NOT THEY HATES OUR COUNTRY

Pretty happy with this news. Local people should learn the hard way that immigrants are not the reason for their issues. It's their government. \nContinue hating the immigrants and no one will choose Canada. Don't worry; immigrants leaving are more prosperous than you think and have more options. They aren't making 16$ an hour like the majority of the people in the comments section.\n\nInterestingly, some third or fourth-generation immigrants think it's only their country. People who came in the last decade don't deserve to be in Canada. The country only belongs to native people. Everyone else is an immigrant. There are a bunch of hypocrites and racists in the comment sections.

So its basically sonething of an National Registrar for Citizens programme in India. \n\nContext - It all began in Northeast India, a tegion which has been neglected by the Indian government for quite a long time. The region is populated by Hindus speaking Assamese (in Assam), Bengali (in Tripura) & Meitei (in Manipur), with a large significant population of Tibeto-Burmese tribal populations following either Christianity, their own folk religions or integrated with Hindus & a minority of Bengali Muslims (mostly in Assam). This area was conquered by the British in 1820s, & with the British came a lot of non-native peoples (mostly Bengali speaking people), thereby making the noatives absolutely hate their presence. Following the Partition of India, many Bengali Hindus fleeing persecution migrated to Northeast India, fuelling further unrest. Over time, a large number of Bengali Muslims from what is now Bangladesh illegally migrated into the Northeast & integrated themselves with the local Muslim population (settled by the British), thereby changing the regional demographics based on religion. In the 1980s the increasing number of Bengali Muslims in the Northeast Indian state of Assam sparked an insurrection, which was put down after the Indian government promised to identify & deport illegal immigrants. Similar rebellions also broke out in other states of Northeast India by the tribal population against the rise in numbers of Bengali Hindus seeking shelter from religious persecution by Muslims in Bangladesh. However, very little progress was made in identifying illegal immigrants in Northeast India. After 2011 census revealed that Muslims outnumbered Hindus in Assam (but the combined Hindu-tribal populated outnumbered Muslims), talks began about setting a registrar & tribunal to speed up the process of identifying & deporting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. This picked up pace after the Hindu nationalist BJP party came to power in the union government in 2014 & in Assam's state government in 2016. Around 2018, the Assam government started the National Register of Citizens to register the names of all people of the state provided that they can show proof of their/their parents being present in the state before 1971, inabilty to do so would cause to stand trial before a Foreigners' Tribunal to prove their citizenship or face deportation. This exercise was fraught with allegations of xenophobia, with Bengali Hindus, Gorkhas (settled by the British from Nepal to serve in the army) & Austro-Asiatic tribals (settled by the British to work as labourers in tea gardens) being branded as illegal infiltrators alongside Bengali Muslims. Those who were unable to prove their citizenship ended up rounded in detention centres, eventually to be deported out, which at that time many in Europe & USA had compared with Nazi concentration camps. \nIt would be interesting to see whether this same Nazi analogy is drawn up in case of the Trump administration doing the same as what happened in India.

The Biden administration deported more undocumented immigrants in 2 years than Trump deported in 4 years.\n\nThey did it without hate speech, without divisive hate, without lies, propaganda, and ignorant rhetoric. They did it without separating families, without inhumane conditions, and promoting an environment of fear. They did it without breaking any US laws, without breaking international laws, and without violating the Geneva Convention. They did it without violating the rights of asylum seekers.\n\nThey did it without forcing a government shutdown, declaring a fake national emergency, and using it to steal $15 billion from the defense/military budget for a wall Mexico didn’t pay for, to be built when a wall already stood. $15 billion for 54 new miles of fencing? What’s the art of THAT deal? That money, OUR money, the military’s money, could have hired a bunch of new border patrol agents, and implemented a TON of technology, drones, independent monitoring centers, flood lights, high quality cameras….but nope. We got more of the same sh¡t we’ve had for 30 years. Walls. If walls work so well, then why doesn’t the wall that already exists keep people out? Fu€|<ing stupid use of our money. I worked at the southern border for 10+ years. I once watched someone drive a truck over a border wall with two thick boards on each side, which they just kept there for next time. It took less than 5 minutes. Because walls aren’t magical.\n\nTrump plans to terminate programs like birthright citizenship, DACA, migrant visas, green cards, military service….and he’s planning to deport people who were born here, have citizenship, but their parents weren’t citizens at the time, so he’s deporting them. IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. But neither does Trump. Who, BTW married TWO IMMIGRANTS who were undocumented at the time. 4 of his 5 kids were born to an immigrant. Melania’s parents are here through “chain migration.” But, he’s taking that away now, too. JD Vance’s wife is of Indian descent. These are the 2 men who want to kick out immigrants. Undocumented immigrants contributed nearly $100 billion to the economy & social security in 2022 alone. They pay the same sales taxes we do. But they don’t have access to the social programs they’re paying into & they don’t get tax returns. WE KEEP THEM. But sure, let’s kick them all out. Any ONE of trump’s plans is going to cripple our economy anyway. \n\nThings are going to get really, really bad, guys.

The government will have to build hundreds of jails to put millions of immigrants and they will need everything any jail need, guards, doctors, nurses, security systems, etc. , and all that means money from all taxpayers, because there is not way to arrest anyone and be deported right away. The taxes will be so much that millions won't be agree with that and they will stop working and that will destroy completely our economy. We can't just work to pay taxes and higher prices for everything. Please just think about it. If you only think to destroy others because you just hate them, take a moment and think about yourself first. What will bother you more a ugly brown immigrant cleaning floors and bathrooms or paying a lot more for everything.
