The reason for this is Trump wants industry back in the US, and as long as people buy things from outside of the US cheaper, that's not going to happen. Thus the tariffs. The U.S. has zero credibility with it's historical allies right now. No country or it's leadership can take the U.S. at it's word in any treaties or trade deals with Donald Trump at the helm. His word is completely useless. It is pointless to enter into any kind of an agreement with the U.S. under the current administration.
