I was glad that not too long ago... Trump actually did say the truth to the American people: Canada imports 95% of it's goods from the USA... with us refusing to buy American, with all of us buying Canadian or International products instead... how will he be making America great again ?? By bankrupting the country ?? Does he thinks that 25% tariffs will make Canadians shake in their pants and all of a sudden want to be the 51st State ?? No, it's just like bringing us back to the days before NAFTA. We were able to live back then and we will be able to now as well.

Trudeau, you should be the president of the United States of America. We will send Trump to canada. We are ready to pay 100% Tariff exporting Trump to canada?

These tariffs are not about policy differences. They appear to be personal. Trump is settling scores. Many Trump voters believe that Mexico, Canada, Russia, China, Ukraine, and even the EU interfered in the US presidential and congressional elections in 2020, 2022, and in 2024 to help the Democrats strip us Americans of our rights and lock Republicans out of power permanently. It doesn't matter if its actually true or not. It's the perception that matters most and that has the bigger consequence. MAGA and President Trump are responding to the appearance of foreign interference in our elections. That's why he's preparing the shut down the DACA program too because we believe the DACA recipients sought to influence the last 4 elections and MAGA wants to punish all of them for that.

The word is Trump is trying to force Mexico and Canada to sign a blanket tariff against Mexico and these tariffs are his way to muscle them to join US.

Hey Canada/Trudeau if you don’t want the tariffs from President Trump then remove your limiting factors on American goods to equal the playing field! Maybe these tariffs and our President may finally get you to allow into Canada as much as we do into the USA! Trying to play a game of tariff against President Trump will not do Canadians any good. This is part of the reason you won’t be the tyrant dictator you once enjoyed being. Not to mention the Canadian government should be doing a lot better on stopping the cartels and their POS fentanyl from coming into their country as well as across into the US!

The moment Pres. Trump threatened Canada with the tariff trade war months ago, I was shocked. How come your closest ally, a friend, your closest neighbor, shared the longest border in the world, fought side by side in ww1, ww2, middleast conflicts etc., and now the relationship starts to deteriorate because of one man's arrogance.

Canada puts high tariffs on our goods, but girlie-man gets mad when Trump puts a couple of tariffs on them. He forgets that the U.S. military defends Canada...Is that supposed to be free? I support Trump and I support MAGA. However a president needs to keep his word and Trump appears to have broken his word here. He asked Canada to reign in illegal immigration to the US and Canada complied. He said do something about fetanyl and Canada did. Trump said the tariff's were because Canada was not acting on these but now they have and we imposed the tariff's anyway. We look like liars and cheats. \nEven with Mexico we threatened tariffs if they didn't help with crackdown on illegal immigration, fetanyl, and drug cartels. Mexico complied and is also helping us. And we still slapped tariffs on them. We lied to Mexico too. \nAnd now we want everyone to trust us to negotiate a peaceful end to the Ukraine war with Trump threatening more sanctions on China and the EU. What the heck should they trust us and believe us after what we just did. \nWhen it comes to defining your character your willingness to keep your word overrules absolutely everything else. Our president gave his word that if these countries took certain actions there would be no tariffs. They did and now he slapped them both in the face with sanctions anyway. He broke his word. This is a dishonorable action. I hope it does not escalate from there. \nIf it was about promoting or building domestic industries, I think the Canadians could have helped us with that but now.... good luck now that bridge has been burned.

If the justification is that Canada is not fighting against fentanyl, but here's Trudeau saying they are, then can't Trump's tariff war stop?? We will all be asking him to stop it.

Ya know, it’s honestly comical that some many people have these knee jerk responses to anything they deem “negative” STRICTLY for the fact that it came from Trump, and rather know TRULY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING behind the reason why these “negative” things are said or done in the first place… I ASSURE YOU 99% of the people complaining about this Canada tariff don’t know that it’s simply to (essentially) force Canada to agree to ramp up their border DEA enforcement/presence to help cut down on the illegal drug trade (primarily fentanyl) coming into America! If more of these people complaining knew this reasoning behind it, I think that would quite honestly shut a lot of them up! And to be completely honest with you, that failure falls on NO ONE MORE THAN THE JADED MEDIA!! I truly believe THAT is hands down the biggest failure in our nation currently!! All Trump has been asking for all along is for Canada & Mexico to DO THEIR PART in stemming the illegal immigration and Fentanyl from crossing into the United States. Nearly 100,000 Americans die each year from Fentanyl overdoses. The raw ingredients come from China and into their respective nations, where they are processed and made into Fentanyl, then brought into the U.S. Neither nation has taken Trump seriously and Biden didn't give a crap and actually assisted with bringing in more of everything. Now both nations get to deal with the results of their inactions. Remember, these are reciprocatory tariffs to simply equal what American goods are charged by Canada & Mexico already. NOW everyone is on an equal playing field. If these nations want lower tariffs, they can go first and then the U.S. will match it to theirs... It's that simple.

There was no reason for these tariffs against Canada. Our closest neighbor and ally. Unreal! Trump is doing exactly what he has been instructed to do, to divide the USA. Both nationally and globally. Putin must be patting himself on the back for a job well done. Disgusting Republicans.

???Now the USA is not a reliable country nor a reliable seller, so Trump is destroying his own country. Besides this crazy tax-tariff thing, now the whole world has seen that Trump has removed the military aid to Ukraine... so the whole world has seen that if you buy weapons to the USA or you use them, the USA will extort you or leave you stranded even in dangerous situations. So now NOBODY is going to buy weapons to the USA, and considering that the American economy massively relies on its military industry, this can cause a huge collapse. Other countries and other markets will step up and take the position of the USA in the market and the world, because other countries are reliable, especially those in Europe and Canada, and the USA is not.

I am Canadian and I am envious of Americans because you have a leader who can stand for you guys, Canada’s economy has been suffering with his leadership even before Trump was elected but he is supporting /funding war , giving out tax payers to refugees he has been bringing who don’t contribute to tax. Hear him more concerned to Americans as opposed to announcing to us Canadians what is his plan for Canada to address tariff! Trump has damaged relationships between our countries that will take a long time to repair. I did not vote for Trump and I wholeheartedly accept that Canada has to respond strongly to his harmful, stupid tariff policies. It’s going to hurt us all.

As an American tariff china absolutely tariff Mexico sure but tariff Canada I’m not so sure about that. Canada is a critical trading partner. Trump is obsessed with trade deficits. Canada is a country rich in resources with the population of California. They have a lot to offer but a small buying power there’s obviously going to be a trade deficit. Canada's Tariff applied to the United States will cause some price inflation, price increase, for a short time until the United states establish compaines to produce the same good and services that were tariffed. Once goods and service producted by the United States exceeds the Canadian goods and services that were tarriffed, the prices will come down. President Donald Trump did this to grow United States and Employment and cause price deflation over the long term. Hopefully Canada has the resources to do the same. The US is showing the world it is now an unreliable, untrustworthy partner. Canada will suffer these tariffs imposed arbitrarily by Pres.Trump, but Canada will always be a reliable and trustworthy partner. I think the real reason Pres Trump is trying to subjugate Canada is he doesn't want the constant reminder what a true friend and trustworthy partner looks like. He is embarrassed by the comparison.

Remember, it's not just Canada that is responding to Trump. Mexico and China are also responding simultaneously to Trump's idiotic tariffs. Mexico, Canada, and China are America's biggest suppliers of materials crucial to the American economy and are huge markets for American goods. If Trump thinks he can fight all of these countries at once and not have America receive grievous damage, then he is more deluded than we thought.
