Okay, so US tariffs are bad and will cause financial trouble for both Americans and Canadians. Won’t Canadian Tariffs do the same thing? Furthermore, Canada will not win a Tariff war with the US. Canada’s response is not rational, nor is it in the best interest of the country. What about working with Trump to understand what it takes to remove all tariffs.

Trudeau can return the US aid sent to them annually for $350 Billion. The UK should be responsible for aid to Canada, not the United States. Trudeau doesn’t appreciate our aid.

What a strong, fact based response. Never been more proud of Trudeau. Trump has chosen to start a trade war that is going to hurt Americans the most. Let's join hands to support local businesses by buying local when possible, even when it hurts the pocket. Standing strong with Canada ?? . We will come out strong ???

Canada has benefited from the USA for many years — it’s time to step up and contribute. ? Let’s focus on fairness and sharing the responsibility don’t bitch about it pay us.

Wonderful to hear Canada's response to the bully Trump. President Trudeau response to global issues is measured, articulate and informed compared to the ignorant, bombastic self serving purposes of Donald Duck (AKA Donald Trump/ USA president) rants!!.\n Stand strong Canada, you have leverage (higher exports of power energies) to the US with your natural resources. In Ireland we recognize a huge differential between the morals of the USA versus Canada ( but some times get confused with the accents). I am with you Canada. Every best wish with your endeavors and thank you for supporting the EU.

Did I read somewhere that 80% of the fertilizer America uses for farmers comes from Canada?\n\nI note that Canada stated they will give a targetted response at Trump friendly states Florida for ranges etc. Looks like America wants to go it alone.

Michigander here. Canada's response is ON POINT. Good decision. Sad it had to be made.

I maybe an ignorant on politics , but what happens when USA , well not USA but the Trump administrations has caused so much damage to the country to the point where other maybe most of his allies start taking responses such as that of Canada , and escalate to the point where perhaps USA lose most of his allies at least important allies such as Canada, the support of the global geopolitics , I Maine that scenario for a moment wouldn't that give Trump an excuse to align even more openly with Putin? I mean why would Trump want that at all who knows but he is certainly aligning with Russia just not openly at least that's what a lot of these decisions he has made recently seem to suggest I mean a lot of the consequences of those decisions and acting really seem to benefit someones agenda and to me a politics ignorant seems to be Putin ... Am I too crazy for thinking and feelings like that???

Canada! It may seem like it but we are not all ?!!!\nBullies are bullies until someone slaps the ? out of them. Your response is motivational to many who can’t believe the lunatics are running the asylum.

I am annoyed with CNN for turning this into a WAFFLE Soapy...At Last Trudeau has grown BALLS and he was presenting a Polite, Rational, Understandable, Logical, Factual explanation NOT only to AMERICA BUT more so to Canada and the World that Trump is NOT actually a SMART man but rather a deranged and dangerous illiterate with NO interest other than HIS EGO...SO CNN in your wisdom you ignored Trudeau's replies to questions from the press and gave oxygen to your WAFFLE MONGERS LIGHT WEIGHT comments.\n I have never been a supporter of wishy washy Trudeau....until this polite and measured presentation by him which was brilliant as an Educational tool not only for the American People BUT also for ALL of those ALLIES in the FREE World that TRUMP has absolutely NO RESPECT for and has been singularly responsible for the FREE World ALLIES to seriously rethink their allegiances with Chaotic America due to Donald's apparently Love affair with Putin as a fellow Dictator.\n America listen up.... The U.K./Europe are cranking up their home based on their door step DEFENSE INDUSTRIES etc which will be GREAT for Europe.... BUT not so GREAT for America''s employment going SOUTH.\n I was born in 1936 in the U.K. and have first hand experience of the TORTURE Ukraine is experiencing as the RESULT of Putin INVADING Ukraine....Donald and his Attack dog Vance are dangerous illiterates.

Ya know, it’s honestly comical that some many people have these knee jerk responses to anything they deem “negative” STRICTLY for the fact that it came from Trump, and rather know TRULY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING behind the reason why these “negative” things are said or done in the first place… I ASSURE YOU 99% of the people complaining about this Canada tariff don’t know that it’s simply to (essentially) force Canada to agree to ramp up their border DEA enforcement/presence to help cut down on the illegal drug trade (primarily fentanyl) coming into America! If more of these people complaining knew this reasoning behind it, I think that would quite honestly shut a lot of them up! And to be completely honest with you, that failure falls on NO ONE MORE THAN THE JADED MEDIA!! I truly believe THAT is hands down the biggest failure in our nation currently!! The media is HANDS DOWN our biggest enemy so far this presidential term!

Thank you emphasizing the role of municipalities in this. Unlike other jurisdictions, in Canada municipalities are responsible for all transport infrastructure and utility infrastructure with the exception of major provincial highways, airports, and electricity and gas distribution systems. Meanwhile, Canadian municipalities can only levy property taxes and no income or sales taxes. Thus, Canadian municipalities governments are very attached to property owners, leading to the political conditions that make housing harder to build and new housing more expensive. The vast majority of the policies restricting housing supply and increasing costs of new housing, like development charges on new homes to fund infrastructure instead of taxing existing property owners, onerous and restrictive zoning regulations, and slow and expensive permitting processes all come from the cities. Honestly, for many city politicians it is to their advantage to make the crisis worse. Why wouldn’t a city councillor vote to raise development charges on building new homes instead of raising property taxes on existing homes to pay for stuff like replacing life expired sewer and road and subway infrastructure!? His constituents aren’t going to care about the costs of new homes, which affect people moving to the city or younger generations, which are either not yet residents of the city or too young to vote.

This American supports Canada and its response to Tr*mp’s attack on our closest ally.

As an American, I'm extremely ashamed of my country. But I'm proud of Canada's response, and I stand with them.

I wish he would say the Trump administration instead of America. Because none of this is the real America. Edit: I do support Canada in their response.

I applaud Canada’s measured response to rampant Trump stupidity. Trump interests are not American interests. Trump is a traitor.
|

Trump cannot hold Canada responsible for individuals who become addicted to drugs, overdose, and die. That responsibility lies with the country where these incidents occur, not with another nation. His comments don't make sense unless he is attempting to find a different excuse to jack Csanada up with the tariffs. Shame on you, Trump.

I wouldn't expect less from Canada,, We have been getting all the Good News from Canada... Some things are getting Out of Hand from President Trump, and He is Speaking from the Responsability of a Man Protecting his Citizens and Economy.

Lmao , every Trump supporter in these comments is so delusional and unaware that they don’t see they are all making the same\nold regurgitated idiotic comment. “ why don’t you move to Canada “. Oh man it is so very damn clear why Trump got in because I have yet to see any MAGA supporter step up with a facts based intelligent response. It’s ???♂️

Kudos to Trudeau, a lucid speech and an excellent response to the unstable Trump's about-face.\nCanada has always shown itself to be a friend and ally of the USA, it is unfair that Trump does this to you!\nCome on Canada, we Europeans are with you!\nFrom Italy.

There is NOTHING like intelligent, direct, and responsible conversation to the people! I stand with you, Canada, our neighbor! ?? ?? ?
|

Yes, Trump is responsible, BUT like Canada says, “it’s the American GOVERNMENT” that is allowing this to happen. The entire Republican congressional delegation is also responsible.
|

This Canadian could only could stand 3 minutes before unplugging him. Too extreme, with incendiary language and hate for Trump and Republicans. A woke Euro globalist. \nCanada's disease of the Heart. He is about to go down with Ukraine's Z. \nThere are alternate, more nuanced responses from Canada, from Pierre Poilievre, the National Conservative opposition leader who has the support of the majority of Canadians, and the Province of Alberta's Premier Smith.

Though I'm not a fan of Trudeau as a politician, on his response to Trump I'm proud of him. He stood up for Canada with force and truth. People will remember that.

Truedope should cut the tariffs that Canada Had Long before Trump was in Office.\n\nThey love to tariff against us and not get a response.

Thank you, Prime Minister Trudeau, for your steadfast leadership in these challenging times. Your clear and decisive response to the unjustified U.S. tariffs demonstrates a commitment to protecting Canadian interests and upholding the integrity of your nation's economy. \n\nIt's reassuring to witness a leader who can speak sense and stand firm against unwarranted actions. \n\nYour dedication to maintaining strong international relationships while addressing internal challenges reflects true statesmanship. Canada is fortunate to have such principled guidance as we navigate these complexities together. #IStandWithCanada

Paula Newton, how dare you use the phrase anti-americanism! This is one of the most emotionally contained and dignified responses do the bullying president of the United States that I've heard so far. Trudeau has every right to be as pointed as he wants. I hate what Trump is doing and I live here! Trump doesn't speak for me. I have friends in Canada. Canadians are absolutely welcomed to help us do something to rein in the power of the dictator in training, Trump.

Why doesn't America have a responsible leader like Canada? Are we going to let our Country be run by Grifters and Greedy Con men? Take action TODAY! Americans make the choices. Not Insane fools by the name of Trump.

Hi Canada, I support your response ❤.

Trump is attempting to offset his tax cuts by implementing a tax that isn't called a tax. All of the money from the tariffs goes to the government. Trump has mentioned when tariffs were common as supporting what he is doing, but he doesn't add that at that time, there wasn't an income tax, so tariffs were how the government supported itself. Trump, knowing that tariffs are income for the government, is lying to his base so they will accept the increased prices as a necessary evil to battle the bad countries of Mexico and Canada. It will look like his tax breaks aren't hurting as much as they are and price increases will be the fault of the other countries.\n\nTrump is a conniving grifter with no knowledge of how to run a country's economy or international trade. He is gaslighting the American public to cover his own shortcomings.\n\nAlso, if fentanyl is entering the US, why is it the fault of the other countries? It is the job of the US to stop anything on its side of the border. Canada and Mexico do what they can to catch the drugs while inside their respective countries. The tons of cocaine and guns that enter Canada and Mexico from the US are caught by their border services; they don't blame the US for the products getting past their own border agents, and the US takes no responsibility for it making it across the border. Why is it other countries' fault for drugs getting past the US's border agents, but not the fault of the US that guns and drugs are going in the other direction? That is why countries work together, not fight over whose fault it is and try to punish each other.

Well done Canada from your brothers and sisters across the pond. Naturally this is the only reciprocal response to such tariffs by adding ones of your own so I am not sure what Trump aims to gain from this.

As an American, I can appreciate Canada's response to the felon president. We want Trump, Miller, MAGA politicians and Elon out. They are bullies and Putin's puppets.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I can GUARANTEE that MAGA will go for petty ad hominem attacks, and lies. \n\nLess than ONE PERCENT OF FENTANYL IN THE US COMES FROM CANADA. \n\nLess than 1%. \n\nIt’s YOUR country that’s wrecked. Take some responsibility.

Maybe building a Boarder Wall on America's Northern Boarder would be a good idea. Canada is responsible to guard our boarders and allow in only those who we feel qualify. Canada does not close it's boarders to those who wish to leave, nor does the United States close it's boarders to those who wish to leave. The United States is free to put up a wall and a boarder crossing anywhere you wish, stop whoever you want to stop from entering your country. I can tell you that The fastest Boarder Wall that I have ever seen go up is the one that Trump just raised between the United States and Canada, the Tariff Wall. What you have done is put signs on our shelves, buy Canadian. You have taken American Product from the top shelf, to the verry bottom shelf, behind the Made in China. You have closed the Travel Agencies to United States travel, nobody wants to go to your country, and I heard that there is going to be a 250% Tariff on hotel accommodations for Americans visiting Canada. It is not only about the Tariffs on Canada, who Used to be your friends, it is about your new friend Russia, who support Terrorist organizations all over the world, including the ones in Gaza who held Americans Hostage, who supports IRAN who supports Russia in murdering and raping women, kidnapping children in Ukraine, torturing and murdering citizens with their hands tied behind their backs. If this is what America supports, if this is what America does to its Ally's, I hope the taps for the oil and the switch for the electricity are turned off, and we never have to worry about each other ever again.\n\nCanada is a country with an Area roughly the size of the United States, with a population 340 Million is 8 1/2 times larger than Canada at $40 Million, with a GDP 9 1/2 times larger than Canada. America is a Bully.

As an American, I've been trying to work out in Alberta as a Pipe Insulator for over five years with no response, but you guys let in other foreign nations. How about you give the people in the US citizenship if we are seeking refuge. I want out of this crappy over priced country more than you know, and all of my Canadian friends have way more respect, values and integrity that the people in the 40's 50's 60..etc used to have in this country. We love you Canada!

Perfect response. We are with you Canada, from the UK. ????

As he thinks so little of Canada's long friendship and a 100 some years of protecting the Americans back, I'm beginning to think we should be doing the opposite. Reduce efforts at the border and let the foreign immigration, crime and drugs flow south into the USA. It's no longer our responsibility to protect their back.

Canada has been mooching off the U.S. for years, time to take responsibility and make your own money, no free handouts anymore ??? #merica

Protect your own borders. Since when is it Canada’s responsibility to protect America’s borders lol. Blame the past administration for leaving your borders on demand for four years. Canada isn’t your scapegoat.

Where are our past presidents? PResident OBama? PResident CLinton? President BIden? PResident BUsh? They still garner the title President. We need their collective wisdom and non-partisan leadership to intercess and stand up to the TREASONOUS machinations of Trump. OUR DEMOCRACY IS IN PERIL….Canada is our friend and confidant. TRUMP IS GUILTY OF TREASON! He is single handedly dismantling decades of peace, goodwill, friiendship and above all SAFETY with our French Canadian neighbors. America is in serious trouble. CNN a you have a responsibility to use your far reaching platform to seek out the opiNions and diplomatic aid of our surviving better presidents.
