I am in the Midwest and it would be a disaster to do this... cut the energy. You can do it in steps, by selling it elsewhere, 5% this month, 10% the following... on and on. People are too comfortable and no one in the US will rise from their chairs until they are being harmed. Tapper it off quickly. The US cannot replace the energy requirements and it would cripple a dozen states over the course of 3 months.

This situation is unbelievable. Russia has been threatening to devastate Germany, and meanwhile, we find ourselves in conflict with Canada, a country that has always been a great friend and neighbor. Trump is provoking Canada into cutting energy supplies to the northern states, to set US citizens against Canada, as a prelude to an attempt to annex Canada. This could be explained if Trump has been talking to Putin and colluded on a plan to divide the world between them. This would also explain his insane plan to annex Gaza, as an excuse to react to the inevitable violence that would attract on its 'American' territory. Taking Greenland would be next, while Putin moves into Europe. Well done, American voters...you've killed us all.

Canada needs the United States more than we need the Canadians. They have a 200 billion trade deficit with the US and just about everything we get from Canada, we can produce right here in our country. I've no doubt that Trump has already agreed with Putin to import energy products from Russia, even though Congress passed a bill in 2022 to ban the imports, he just needs an excuse to get the ban lifted.

What has Canada and European countries done to actually try and end the death and destruction from this war? Europe buys energy from Russia, and Canada is only giving 650 million dollars in weapons over three years, while America has supplied hundreds of billions of dollars in aid and military equipment. Zelensky goes around the world dressed in a military outfit with no desire to stop the slaughter of humans on both sides. There have been thousands of wars where, eventually, one side has to accept the reality that they can not win, Zelensky is unwilling to see this. President Trump was elected because we want his AMERICA FIRST AGENDA, and with us saddled with 36 TRILLION dollars of debt, this war needs to stop.

This will hurt america way more than it will hurt Canada! I and my wife together pay over 100,000 CAD annually through taxes as foreign workers from India, i have never felt this patriotic towards Canada. Together, Canadians can weather this situation. And we will brace the impact together, and Canada can only move in one direction when pushed against wall which is moving forward. Use oil, energy, produce and other resources wisely and you have massive win to out do USD, not far is CAD moving past USD. Go Canada!!

Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

Canada has the winning hand. Canada has resources that USA needs to survive. USA has nothing to offer to Canada to survive. If Canada should cut energy to USA, let’s see who is the boss. For say, Canada is the biggest producer for potash, a fertilizer needed for the American fields. Canada will suffer from these tariffs but USA will cash down harder. As an American and stock investor, I firmly believe that Canada should just ban the export of goods, services and energy products to the US and increase their trade with other countries with the condition that trade will be unbanned once the entire GOP is removed from political power in all three branches of the US. They would be removed either willingly or not within days if not hours.

Trump knows Canada has been a close ally since Canada and U.S. were countries but when Canada and Mexico are taking advantage of the U.S. economically speaking and called out by President Trump, they don't know what to do. We Canadians are suckers if we're giving billions more to Ukraine. Trudeau needs to go now. As for the tariff, I think we need to strike back hard, and continue the boycott of US goods. If we could, would be great do cut off all energy going to the States, but thanks to Trudeau, we don't have cross country pipelines to do that.
