Comparing the US to Canada, I notice we have more freedoms here in Canada in spite of the high cost of living, and because of the freedoms we have more solidarity to call Canada our home. This is what the Dems don't understand about tariffs -- they are a negotiating tool, Trump is using tariffs as a leverage. They're not meant to be permanent. They don't even have to go into effect at all. Just the threat of tariffs is often enough. Colombia can't survive without the US as a major trading partner. Tariffs would kill them. The Colombian president was claiming that migrants are welcome back as long as they are not treated as criminals since they are not criminals. Entering the US illegally is a civil offense like passing red light but not a criminal offense under US law. So then he said he could send his own plane and make sure that those people are not handcuffed and treated with dignity in their arrival, since Trump was treating them as criminals. for all of you in the comments trying to bash Trump talking about how this was a bad move and going to drive up prices, make enemies, etc. how do you feel now that the Colombian president has folded and is sending his presidential plane to pick them up? The threat of tariffs worked didn't it? Maybe it's time you admit to yourself you've been lied to and Trump knows what he's doing and has our country's best interest at heart.

This is what Dems don't understand about tariffs -- they are a negotiating tool. They're not meant to be permanent. They don't even have to go into effect at all. Just the threat of tariffs is often enough. Colombia can't survive without the US as a major trading partner. Tariffs would kill them. So, they quickly changed their tune. Like him or not, Trump understands how to negotiate. That's the difference between a President with business experience, as opposed to a President who is a lawyer and a lifelong politician.
