Trudeau was right when he said it was dumb. The US tariffs are simply about bringing America to its knees and destroying America. That is why the country is being recklessly run. The idea is to destroy the American way of life and America. Have you seen a 3rd world country run. The fighting and the division in the 3rd world country? The events over the past weeks are not about efficiency. 1 worker doing 15 people's jobs. Who is running the government? Tariffs are one more thing to destroy America. US government federal workers all let go, paying government employees pennies on the dollars and lying to the American public about efficiency, farmers and textile workers that voted are stranded without jobs, social security being destroyed, programs being destroyed, Americans being lied to, Americans being taken advantage of due to poor knowledge and education, education being taken away and putting un-elected immigrants/foreigners to run/destroy America. Yes, the Tariffs are one more thing to put Americans in the street, turn off their electricity, take away their heating system, and make America into a poor 3rd world country. Trudeau and Canada are protecting its workers - federal and private and yes, all of Canada. Canada is United. Americans better find Unity like the Canadians are doing versus worrying about who voted Red or Blue.

As a Canadian citizen I have always admired the US up until now, I sincerely wanted to move to the US to build homes and start up a company. But now am re-evaluating my decision because if this how the US treats their friends and allies, I really feel sad for their enemies. Both countries benefited from having a good relationship and now the great US has no one willing to challenge Mr Trump on this idiotic move, America is alienating themselves from a lot of countries and regular Americans are the ones who are going to suffer from this fall-out, the rich won't be affected but regular working class folks your stress is going to get a whole lot worse and that's unfortunate. Hopefully US wises up sooner rather than later and stop blaming immigration for their problems it's poor governing and politicians that have us looking at each other as enemies rather than humans with the same struggle and issues. They have money to send annually overseas but none to improve the life of their citizens in need, that should tell you something. People that don't look like you aren't your enemies, people who try to harm you, undermine you are your enemies. People are just searching for a better life that's all, the most basic thing humans have in common, change the red tape a make things more structured and rid your country of the bad apples and welcome those willing to work, build and serve God and the country. May God help us all the beginning of Sorrows has begun ?.

Trudeau did the right thing, here. As a result of Trump's casual threats against their Country, Canada will become more self-sufficient, moving forward. And they are likely backchanneling & fast-tracking the ability to become nuclear capable, as well. And I don't blame them one bit.

Hmmmm.... If this isn't going to hurt Canada at all and only hurt the US (ie helping Canada) then why is Trudeau so upset? I think I'm gonna let this one ride out and see how things play out. I have never felt more proud to be a Canadian, it’s a good feeling, I was almost brought to tears earlier thinking about it. And it’s interesting to note that it is overriding the fear of the consequences of Donald’s actions. Here’s where I can’t help but think of you, our fellow North Americans. The good people of the USA, I hold you in my heart. For you don’t have that boost that comes from feeling proud of your country. I can’t say I’ve ever known what that is like. It seems it would leave you gutted, and lost. Can you even describe the feeling, the experience? It has to be one of those things that you can’t know until you experience it. The pride in my country is keeping me going. My heart is crushed thinking that you do not have that. But you need to do everything you can to keep it. It’s what the Donald and his cronies are counting on. Unfortunately, he does not care about you. He wants to crush you. He does not care about America and what it stands for. He only cares about himself. If you do not have the fight that comes from being proud of your country, you guys are gonna be easy pickings. Do everything you can to find pride in your country. We need you to fight. We need you at our side. We are with you. We will always be with you.

Imagine voting for Trump over inflation while he was saying he would use tariffs and people thinking it wouldn't affect them. So naive. Trump is an agent of chaos who is anathema to everything this country stands for, and it's self-evident by his actions. We are a country who is strong because of our friends around the world and no one will trust this country when we keep putting an idiot in office who doesn't honor former president's agreements. You can't work with a country who won't stick to it's agreements. You wouldn't tolerate a friend like that, and this is the same thing on a macro level.

I don't even think the people who voted for Donald Trump wanted these tariffs against the rest of the world either....I really don't understand the sense behind it because this is not going to make America greater.... I'm reading through the comments and one thing is very clear. We need to impeach Donald. He's not serving the interests of Americans but rather treacherous dictators like Putin, by hurting long standing and mutually beneficial relationships with our best and closest allies.

Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences.
