Compared to America, this is wonderful

I vacationed in the US often in the 70s and 80s. The scenery in the west is wonderful, New York and Washington DC are very dynamic and people are generally friendly. BUT things turned very nasty after 9/11. The bogus war in Iraq and the 20 year stay in Afghanistan changed everything. The MAGA crowd of haters, gun crazies, religious fanatics and the politicians who cater to them have made the country intolerable. Any advantages America may have are vastly outweighted by the negatives that are part of everyday life. Every school child has regular shooter on the loose drills routinely. Gun-toting losers may feel a thrill from carrying a gun but I don't like the sight of them.\n\nAmericans are like frogs in a sauce pan of water that is being brought to a boil. They just do not realize how bad the US has become.........

Yes, of course, although Canadian views can be true sometimes. Yet, we cannot defend our own Country as you can. That alone makes us ' nice'. We have to be.\nDo you see realness vs manipulation here, even for/against ourselves?\n Not to mention a new thing I've learned through an American. Homeownership & land rights. We have something called mineral rights. Ownership of land under homes is unknown sometimes I am sure. Listened carefully to everything that was commented on and I too was a little surprised by what I heard. Being from southern Ontario actually near Buffalo and I am close to the USA but I am glad to be in Canada. Many of my friends go to Florida for the winter. They state that they will politely listen to the politics but never chime in with their opinion. The american political situation is very much like the religious situation with the Irish and the Northern Irish Catholics vs the Protestants. Your political separation borders on insanity. The current republicans lie through their teeth and keep repeating those lies. Listening to the Irish is equally exhausting. When I travel to the United States I am always glad to be home when the trip is over. While in America, I find most people are wonderful and we are always treated very well. If the Republicans snap out of it and the gun lobby loses their grip on the narrative that everyone needs a gun I think the attitude of Canadians might change. One thing for sure I am very happy that big brother is right next door and we will never have to deal with what the Ukrainian people are going through. In that instance I am glad that America keeps improving their weapon systems and their innovations and mass military production. \nI am sure there are many lovely places in the USA but the media focuses on the bad news of the day where violence and shootings and political insanity dominate news. Meanwhile most Americans are enjoying their lives in peace.

NO. Never. Wonderful natural areas and cities to visit on vacation, but America has a personality disorder that's out of control. Not in any order except how they came to me:\n(1) the American Dream vs the Candian ideal. (2) In many places, any stranger you pass on a street or see anywhere may be legally armed with a gun. (3) Babies to adults -- all can be murdered over and over again, and nothing changes. (4) Healthcare - the idea people thing they shouldn't take care of others is appalling to me. (5) Religious fanaticism - nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. (6) Rampant racism alongside denial of the existence of racsim; nope again x 10. (7) What used to be creeping corruption is now rampant all the way to the Supreme Court (8) 50% of the people want authoritarian fascist for a leader corrupt Supreme Court ... Is that enough for now?

America is a beautiful country to look at, and I'm sure there are lots of beautiful people, but the arrogance of some of them is mind blowing. I recently watched the news footage of 911, I cried all the way through that, first out of compassion and next out of frustration. When people were jumping out of those towers, George Dubya was making a statement that terrorism would not stand in America. What did he think was standing in his face. The terrorists won that day. Then when they got Bin Laden He stands up and says we got him . Big deal you got one person , when there are dozens to take his place. No mention of other countries that helped them. , they have taken full credit for every war that ever happened. They wonder why the rest of the world hates that country. The sad thing is that 911 didn't teach them a thing. They brag about how they lost 3000 people and other countries only lost a few to terrorism. How sad that they think that way. You had a great president in Obama, but you have that 2 term rule and have been going downhill ever since. And our Canada's Prime minister is certainly nothing to be proud of. Politically he's no threat to anybody, but his own country. Mostly he is an immoral threat to his own country. But that's another vent for another day. I still pray every day for the world and that includes America, but I can't imagine what it will take to break them of that arrogance.

Hey Tyler...ask the question in reverse...see how many Americans would move to Canada....and I have a question for you, Why should I have to make a choice where I live, directly in response to gun violence and mass shootings, lousy uber expensive health care , discrimination, racism, bigotry, and hatred?...like I said in my 1st post, I lived in Cali. and Arkansas in the mid 80's, as different as environments can be...yet all of the same issues, just some more pronounced than others ( surprisingly, I saw and HEARD a lot more racism in Southern California than I did in Arkansas)....but now, in the 21st Century, the fact that politicians are actively trying (and in a lot of cases succeeding) to return the U.S. to the 1900 ( taking the vote away from minorities, especially blacks and native Americans), making women bend the knee to what men say and want them to do ( the reversal of Roe v Wade, 100% total bans on reproductive rights, and the restrictive, totalitarian, Nazi/fascist bans on the rights to choose who you want to be, how you want to be addressed, LGBTQ people and lifestyles) when I see this, hear the right-wing racist, elitist,MAGA, B.S., I wonder how ANY people in their right minds could want to live in 2023 America, the Land of the Lost !

It's wonderful to see people so excited and exhilarate to want to be Americans but come the legal way learn the process and assimilate into being an American. Exactly!!! There is no money for our own US citizens so how is America supposed to help the immigrants???? Use that money for our Americans who are struggling to make ends meet and wondering if they will have a place to live. Close the borders send them back!!! That means that 100% of these people are not asylum seekers nor refugees, they are economic migrants and have ZERO right to even attempt entry in to America legal or otherwise, as they have traversed across 10 SAFE COUNTRIES where their asylum needs were met. If you really needed asylum, you would go to the next safe country. Somehow no one in politics has the stomach to do mass deportation nor border defense, hmm I wonder why? (Looks over at elites’ thresher) If you are from Venezuela and claiming to be seeking asylum at America’s border, WHILE STANDING IN MEXICO where you could seek asylum and choose not to, then you’re a liar and a piece of shit. People don’t even realize 90% of these people entering are criminals. No wonder why America has going downhill. Look at the people that were letting in. Biden is allowing the worst of the worst to enter because he has people in he’s inner circle telling him how great these people are and they are looking for a new opportunity but if only they knew. I wonder how much of this could be resolved if we decided to pull back senseless embargoes that aren’t achieving policy objectives. Let Venezuelans and Cubans, for example, rule their nations as they wish and stop punishing them for regimes not politically aligned with the USA. It’s this bs that people like Putin use to justify their injustices abroad given that the USA insistes on a global rules-based order in which she alone sets the rules. Many, not all of, these people wanting to cross the border are coming to people who can house them. Many have family already in the USA. Besides, we are seeing the chickens coming home to roost after years of failed US intervention in Central and South America. Smell the historical facts; wake up America.

If everything and everyone were allowed to cover the whole United States from Central and South America, I wonder what it would look like in 20 or 30 years? I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. I live in El Salvador, but I've been thinking about moving somewhere in North America. The US is cool but, I don't want to run across all of the salvadorans who are already there LOL, I want something new. Also, I'd like to still live in, or at least not very far away, from the Americas. I'm too lazy to go to Europe, and have to learn the language there, sorry, I already speak Spanish and English well enough. Only Japan, or Brazil may change my mind, language wise (my Portuguese is enough so I could get by, and I'm also a Japanese music aficionado).\n\nOn the other hand, I love dressing very flamboyant, and, seeing how Canadians wear in the winter, with those huge sweaters and winter clothing, I wonder if it's the place for me ? (I know, that's a very ridiculous concern), also, I don't know if I'd get used to long winters. I've always said I don't like Salvadoran heat, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to trade that for Canadian winters.

I've been to all the major cities and even I wonder how people survive on low paying jobs, what some people pay for a Studio in a major city could afford a house elsewhere. It also seems the bigger the city, the more segregated it is, I mean you have a Chinatown in almost every metropolis I've been to. NYC Public Transportation was disgusting...Tokyo was immaculate. America is a car country, and most city planning was done with the car in mind. Roll Tide.

Hi ladies. These are exactly the same situation here in the UK. I have been living in London since 1986 and surviving over here especially for those just arriving can be so frustrating. I often wonder why so many of our people are still struggling to come and live in these countries. I know you speak about the USA being better however I have a numbers of family and friends living in America and they are complaining about how hard you have to work in order to make ends meet. The answer to that could be the fact that many immigrants especially from Africa don't feel safe in their own home countries and bad leaders who continually fail to provide any opportunities for their youths and citizens. Thanks for sharing this vital information as many people think these western countries are paradise until they arrive and face the bare realities.

I have always wondered about this. You look at literally any other continent in the world and you see many people out on the streets hustling and bustling. Especially here in Pakistan, everything is always alive. But whenever I look at the U.S or Canada on Google Maps, I always get this strange lonely feeling. Why are the streets always so empty? I have often thought that despite the endless amount of celebrities and YouTubers, journalists etc. who are always noisy on the news and social media, and portray a very lively image of North America, I really felt that the situation of the common man is quite different. The common man of North America must not think that their neighborhoods being this lonely and empty is normal. After watching this video, that belief of mine has been validated.

I would dispute the cost of living argument putting Quebec at #1. I'm from there, and in Quebec, you have extremely high tax rates, almost no social services (since the health care system started imploding in the 90s and has the only such system in Canada that is almost completely non-transportable across provinces as Quebec refuses to pay anyone else or delays payment for so long, other provinces give up). Daycare workers don't even make minimum wage, the education system is heavily politicized and extremely poor (far too many teachers who couldn't care less about their students and do little work), rents are quite high in most cities, especially when you couple them with the high tax rates and the infrastructure is among the worst in North America. There are good points about Quebec, but I put it about on par with Montana or Alabama for what it offers the population, compared to costs. And then there's the wonderfully racist and nationalist government that feels it's a crime to wear a scarf.
