Duhhhhhh! Stop fake asylum seekers, cultural diversity ? They are all from Middle East and India, that’s not diversity. Immigration should consist only of people that have the trades and professions we are short of and not the whole damn extended family,grandma and grandpa that have never contributed here but would be a strain on healthcare. Stop the fake student applicants and reduce the number international students, and it shouldn’t be a given that you can stay here when done studying.

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

Are you egging kidding me?\nI’m Canadian, moved from Alberta to Montreal and every one in Pauline Julienne school is an immigrant except perhaps 4 people, 3 from my family and a girl from Toronto .\nI had a rude awakening to find out the immigrants tuition is free - mine I had to pay for. Also the immigrants are GIVEN money to attend class 500 - 600 per person per month. So if it is a couple that is 1000/month and that is on top of the housing benefits they get for free.\nMy family had to no such benefit.\nAdditionally even though educated, because we are anglophones we could not get even menial jobs. I applied at a value Villiage and was denied because I did not speak French however a class mate in my “beginners” who also knew no French but was from Mexico did get a job there. (Hanging up cloths)\nSo this is a small example of Trudeau’s government giving preferential treatment to immigrants over Canadians.

Truth is that the immigration system has been a source of income and financial gain for the system but gives little back. Sadly many Canadians think the opposite is true. They think because refugees are given shelter while waiting for processing that means they receive support more than the locals. Truth is immigrants come here mostly on loans, spend years working and spending to support families back home, it takes years to understand the taxing, credit, wealth, education and many other resources that drives the Canadian community. This put immigrants in a position where they work more than the local just to meet the bare minimum life standards. If many of the immigrants knew the ins and outs of the system, then they would really take over and appreciate being in canada. \n\nCanadians and canada as a whole are welcoming. You might meet a few who have little knowledge of the global system and standard against immigrants, something that their countries economic system depends on. Remember your countries have never lived without immigration. From the day the first white personal stepped onto this lane, immigrants have continued to come in more different colours. It’s our duty to focus on making life better not on how we can make life harder for others. Wanting to live in canada with your own specific community and wanting others to stay away from a land that has been shared for decades is just a selfish stand. We all love canada because we all find peace here.

Watch canada couples, happy home happy life . They havecakso gone fresh. They have theirr own detached house, given condo on rent etc etc. They are raising family too

Exactly same, I am experiencing in Melbourne. I also have sister here with her family so I didn’t face the Initial problems like you but all the other problems which you faced, I am experiencing the same. My biggest mistake was that I didn’t take decision like you of coming back and after 3 months, my job in India was given to someone else. Now I have no other choice but to stay here for some years so that I will earn at least some money before returning.

I came to America like 6 years ago and I can attest that as they say yuesi is a land of opportunities it truly is,I didn’t come with the right documents as they say I came through visit visa so I had to follow the procedures that were required and within a very short time I was able to stand on my feet and found a job that was providing well for my family and myself and when I mean provide I was able to educate my 3 kids through university and daystar university and still be able to acquire some property all this being said and done am not very educated so it’s not about education it’s just being given a chance to do what I can do.have seen very old people who understand very little English going to school and doing the exam in health care,they are given an option of bringing someone who will interpret for you with the language you understand better my friend did her exam in kikuyu na akapita and so many others so I can confidently say this is land of opportunities.

Hi Lynn. First of, I would like to say that I'm such a huge fan of yours. Since you started at Tuko and still following to date. You are an inspiration to me and so many people out there. I love and respect what you stand for and your work. I completely resonate with everything you are about. Second, I've lived in Canada for over 30 years now. I am Eritrean and was born in Kenya. Moved to Canada when I was about 9 and have lived here since with my family. I have to say that for us, Canada has been a God Send. It has helped us in so many ways, and we are so grateful for the opportunities and life it has given my family. From health care to schooling and job opportunities. We also cane here in 1989. So times and cost of living was very different than it is now. Of course, times have changed now, and the economy and standard of living have too. There are pros and cons to everywhere we live in the world. Everyone is different and has different experiences. There are various factors that may affect everyone's perspectives and experiences when they come to Canada, whether it was a long time ago or recently. Some factors could be, weather, economy, feeling lonely ( no family), language barriers, support...etc. Change is not easy at all and can affect t your whole emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Social life here is also not like it us back home...just alot of factors. People here work and work to make it. My mom brought us here as a single widowed mom. My sister and I were very young. But she was determined to give us a better life and worked her whole life, and it has paid off. It depends on how you look at everything and what your goal is. My mother was determined and made it happen and has raised us on her own very successfully. She loves Canada and appreciates it for everything it has done for us. Everyone's experiences are different. You have to do your research before coming and come with an open mind. Overall... Canada for us has been a blessing. \n\nI hope that helps somehow. No way would I want to live down there. Dat place is crazy, dirty, and dangerous. Half the country hates everyone else, or so it seems. Given that your crazies have such easy access to guns, I think it is one of the last north western countries I would live in. \nAlso, the fact that the number one cause of personal bankruptcies in The US, is medical expenses. It is a country where a couple of stitches can cost you a thousand bucks and where insurance companies decide what treatments are available to you.\nI think it would be a terrible place to live, especially with a family.

I think the best reasons for people to want to live in Canada is for the safety. Laws of no violence and no weapons in public. Our rapid response of Police, Fire and medical (there are bills for the Ambulance and Fire response so we do get billed at times, which also can be brought to our judicial system and potentially the bill can be dropped). \nAll across the world people need safety for their families and Canada takes refugees in large quantities. Refugee families are given a sponsored house, vehicle, paid for bills (including medical and educational) and a paid food allowance to live in until they stabilize themselves with full time work and when they are ready they can make room for other refugee families in need. \nWe have a huge area of land that is underdeveloped and there are plenty of opportunities for work in the infrastructure field. \nCanada is known across the world to host friendliness amongst its free citizens. \nAlso we aid any country in need and are the first country to respond to any natural disaster world wide. \nWe have our flaws but we feel safe and cared for with those flaws.

I wonder how much of this could be resolved if we decided to pull back senseless embargoes that aren’t achieving policy objectives. Let Venezuelans and Cubans, for example, rule their nations as they wish and stop punishing them for regimes not politically aligned with the USA. It’s this bs that people like Putin use to justify their injustices abroad given that the USA insistes on a global rules-based order in which she alone sets the rules. Many, not all of, these people wanting to cross the border are coming to people who can house them. Many have family already in the USA. Besides, we are seeing the chickens coming home to roost after years of failed US intervention in Central and South America. Smell the historical facts; wake up America.

I am all for those who want to migrate to our country. However, we need to fix problems at home. How and why is it we are allowing migrants to effortlessly acquire a higher standard of living than the majority of natural born citizens by crossing an imaginary line? I know there are families who risk their lives and work tirelessly to provide something better for them and theirs. As a father of three young children, trust me I get it! However, natural born citizens get whatever’s at the bottom of the barrel compared to the amenities given to immigrants. It needs to stop at least for now.

A lot of single family homes are being sold to large corporations and the price is getting driven up in America QE quantitative, easing cheap money bonds that was given out by the federal government. A lot of that money went to buying housing rentals driving up the cost with no intention on ever selling. It’s a steady flow of income they got the money for free. 0 % now the people that dose have a home the layoffs will create a downturn that will cost more people, their homes, large corporations, or buy the rest of them leave them people either homeless or slaves to the system forever

I do feel bad for their situation, especially since their government is corrupt and allows gangs/cartels to flourish. But it's not our problem. We have homeless veterans and even our lower class families struggle to keep their benefits. No one who is illegally living in our country should be given better treatment then our own struggling people. And sending money back to those countries does hurt our economy, it's supposed to be spent here than aboard.

This is deplorable and it’s going to destroy our country in so many ways. First, our social, educational, and criminal systems cannot absorb this many people all at once. We have enough people immigrating here legally. We don’t need all these illegals flooding over.\nThis is all Joe Biden and the Democrats’ fault, for not doing anything for two-plus years, except inviting these people to come here. These people get benefits, free healthcare, welfare probably, phones, and they shouldn’t. They should be told to go home. The majority of them are not going to show up for their court date. I understand their situation, BUT, they need to do legally period . I came to this awesome country long time ago, though a legal port of entry, I never used a penny of Canadian taxpayer money, I raised my self up, , I work very hard, I live a wonderful lifestyle with my family, now, my country Canada ??, this country given a lot , but , I pay my fear share to the government, taxes.

I've been to Canada a couple of times to Hamilton (outside of Toronto) because my mom's childhood friend from Manchester, UK lives there and I went to the states for a few weeks to Florida, DC and NYC on a massive trip.\n\nWhat struck me is how fit Canadian women are compared to US women. Also, how genuinely friendly and humble Canadians were compared to the brash know it all attitude of Americans. I was really looking forward to America cause I was raised on its culture here in the UK. I know I've not given it a proper chance but I'm not that tempted to go back.\nI travelled a lot with my family growing up but only in the US have we ever felt like we could be in danger. Not great.\nAnd that racial segregation is pants. It's disgusting, really.

I often find that poverty is so different in American than other places. I'm referring to more of the mindset. I noticed that when facing poverty like other countries people are still innovative and surviving. It feels like poverty culture here is really like people have given up on morality, honor, and based on greed. I grew up in a very gang infested area of wisconsin and it was like a lot of young people trying to make quick easy dollars slanging. It was really like people didn't care about family, friends, neighbor, or appearences. I find that poverty culture kind if embodied by american culture that pursuit of wealh at the cost of others. Why i felt like living in America was so different. Like in Barbados even if the area is poor everyone is your auntie, your uncle, your daddy, or mommy. If someone is acting out everyone in that neighborhood corrects you. Everyone comes out to celebrate you though too when you do good. People help and talk to each other. Yeah we it has poverty, crime etc. but it's nothing like how it is in America.

To confirm as an American. Yes, it seems like everyone wants to put hot sauce and cheese on everything and it's annoying. The tap water here is bad unless you get it from the fridge or have a filter. Here in Arkansas, I think our spring water is great.\n\nRegarding the city and getting around to restaurants and other areas, pretty much. A good portion of our factories are on acres of land. However, some are still close enough that you can walk to. I'm certain this is hardly different from Canada but we are 97% rural. People think of America as big cities but usually its the local town and a pumpkin patch. When Aba said America is like 40 different countries, he ain't wrong. \n\nFirearms is ingrained in our culture. That's a given. I see a lot of people mention safety and this is what I can say; I felt my safety was compromised by a tornado warning. Trouble can happen but if you don't deal drugs or do some under the table stuff, usually you won't be a victim of a crime. \nI'm planning on owning some land myself so I can shoot on it, farm, and raise a family. Just be independent.

Hey. It all about choice. So let’s get it straight. The people who worked hard to build and develop Canada over the last 200 Years and paid their taxes, that’s ok. I am a powerful woman raised by my grandparents and my parents in an amazing family. I identify myself as a woman of colour, amazing colour, it embraces me and reflects back my beauty for all around me to see. We were given every opportunity to explore the world where we lived and had passion for reading books, I was encouraged to explore so much of the world and ideologies. Issues of racism existed around me and this was unquestionable, but we had a safe place in a family with committed parents to develop and make our mark on the world. How refreshing to explore the world from a safe place and our parents especially my father encouraged us to mix with people of all cultures, because he firmly believed and I also believe there is only one race, the human race. We look different on the outside but let’s enjoy the fact that God made of one flesh all people. So, impressed with my amazing grandparents and parents... They are given 50,000 and I'm given nothing to start up my family while being born here and being raised in a poor family! Also those crossing the border Illgeally should be treated like criminals! why not just make your stay here legal? stop hiding, pay taxes, gain rights, live in a house and get a job. if youve been hiding in a church for 15 years. youre not doing your family any favors. just do what it takes to become legal. i know its harder said then done these days but its gotta be better then hiding in a church basement for 15 years. plus you need rights, you need to be able to call the police when theres an emergency with out fear of deportation. come on! one time i hit an illegal with my car. destroyed the back end. i felt so bad! i have great insurance and wanted to take care of their car, and make sure they got checked out at a hospital but they refused cause they didnt want to get in trouble. their car never got fixed.... even though I wanted to fix it! i mean come on people supporting illegal imagrants are puting them in danger. they need to be given a path to legal citizenship and stopped from entering with out doing so.

If women are really given a higher status in Islam, why is it that under Islam a woman's testimony is only half that of a man's in Sharia court. A Muslim woman does not have the right to divorce if her husband refuses but the Muslim husband can divorce her anytime and can even marry as many as four wives but the Muslim woman can not. A Muslim woman inherits only half that of a man's in her family under Shariah Law. So how can she say that woman are given a higher status in Islam? More importantly, why is it that a Muslim woman who defies her parents especially in forced marriages become victims of honor killings? Why is it Muslim girls are subjected to female genital mutilation in most if not all Muslim countries?

Apparently those who comment have missed that he was in the USA legally. He had a TPS. Salvadorans were given TPS status during early 2000's. I am tired of people on social media commenting about matters they know nothing about. The man is working hard to provide for his family. I am sure he has little opportunity to practice English. I'll lay it out for you: Me: typical middle of the road liberal oriented Canadian. Non white, immigrant (I wasnt born here) I worked in a Refugee housing for over 4 years in Ontario. Most were not war areas refugees (Yes I know there are other types of refugees). I only encountered few refugees from war areas. ONLY 1 person from Iraq, about 2 families were from Afghanistan, 1 couple from Pakistan(I doubt they were real refugees they spoke fluent English, maybe political refugee), and a most from African countries. Its too far for real refugees to get here. Its Easier for them to go to other countries nearby or Europe. MOST SEEM TO BE ECONOMIC REFUGEES. Most were coming from Africa. Some are coming from Latin America, which shouldn't be happening. Once they showed up at our doorstep and we processed them into the system, they were immediately in the same class as a Canadian resident homeless person if they were making a refugee claim. We get money to house and feed them (from the government), and they are given a stipend for basics from the government processed through the Social Assistance/ Welfare system (they get less than a resident/citizen I think.). They then have to get their case processed by the refugee board, and most seem to get in. I've only heard of few getting sent back. One person I know at our facility, was given a subsided social housing apartment after a year in our facility. So they went straight from a shelter to a government/city owned subsidized apartment. (Didn't seem like it was a issue for the housing worker...they didn't report it (if they were not the ones that helped the person to get it), they were white, the housed person was Latin. This refugee claimant, and then month or two new Canadian resident person was given an apartment in a prime area of the city, instead of the 1000's of Canadians, those who came before them, and born Canadian citizens on an extremely long waiting list. How this was allowed to happen I don't know. The person was probably sucking on someone's straw. I'm just trying to think the barriers these people have to go through to get a job here. We are far removed from the time of the 80's and 90's., and housing and jobs are so hard to get. Refugee status for what? He's not fleeing any war or conflict, the only thing he's fleeing is deportation to his home country from the US because he crossed the border into the US and lived there ILLEGALLY, he's a fucking criminal... And yet, he STILL feels he's entitled to cross the border into Canada and thinks they'll welcome him with open arms...\n\nWhere do these people get the idea that they have the RIGHT to just enter whatever country they wish without having to go through the immigration process? I'm sick of these sob stories. Are those people really that stupid? I'm beginning to think they really are. This man had been in the States for several years according to this video. He was in the States illegally. He clearly never bothered to learn English, and it looks like that for his family too. Then he gets scared because Trump got elected and actually starts ENFORCING IMMIGRATION LAW. So he flees to Canada just because of something a really STUPID and poorly liked PM says. So he takes his family and again is expecting to be given asylum, and then does no research to find out the facts about Canada's immigration system before he goes there. Then he complains about having to spend all his money. Oh gee, did he actually think they would just give him free everything??? Clearly the threat he's complaining about in his own country is not that bad, since Canada rejected his asylum. So what does he do? He refuses to turn up for his hearing, and then he flees to another province. Totally criminal activity. Canada's immigration people need to round him up and deport him.
