I moved to Canada over 20 years ago from Kenya, and it's safe to say that this has been the best decision I ever made for myself and my family. As a African living in Canada, l can only say that life is hard everywhere however, there has been an influx of Africans coming here as visitors and then claiming refugee status. The system is overwhelmed and these people, if they have no money or familial support, will end on streets. Secondly, most immigrant go Toronto, they do not consider other provinces where resources are not as strained hence the homeless situation. Be smart, do your research and consider other regions, NWT, Nova Scotia, Saskachewan etc. Ontario is flooded!!

1. Canada's immigration is primarily skilled labour. Non- skilled labour is imported mostly from the Carribean countries especially Jamaica and you have to leave every year and come back in the next. So, that can be disruptive, but I've met Jamaican's who've been on those programs and done well as well as those who haven't.\n2. If you come to Canada illegally utakipata. Be prepared to hustle for long.\n3. Since Covid everything has become very expensive especially housing. \n4. The videos you've shown of people sleeping outside is because of an increase in the influx of refugees wanting to come to Canada. Refugee shelters are allocated money in the budget for what the Govt estimates will be the number of refugees they'll take in, but there's been an influx lately.\n- A point to note though, ALL refugees Canada received from Ukraine had jobs within 2 months. Why? very skilled labour.\n- Canada's refugee policy is much more lenient than in the US and thus most refugees have been coming to Canada even from the US. The US ones have since been blocked by an agreement signed by both countries.\n5. Are there jobs in Canada? YES, but they require certain skills. The good thing is that once you get one, its the beggining of good fortunes.\n6. If you have skilled qualifications, be prepared to start at a lower level than you are used to and claw your way up. Just don't expect to start where you left off. A Nigerian friend of mine who had performed several surgeries in Nigeria could not be hired until he went back to get certified here in Canada. He has since joined the medical field after going back to school.\n\nAll in all, research, research, research before you make any move.

It's hard if you move through the legal paths work or as a student. It's going to alot harder trying to immigrate as a tourist and trying to claim refugee status or converting to a work permit. I don't think people should blame Canada or the Canadian govt. if they are already breaking immigration laws. People need to do their due diligence. At the end of the day an agent is only interested in what's they are earning from you

I'm a cosmetic surgeon living in Sydney Australia. I'll be totally honest. You can delete my post or you can except the truth.\nI've been too & have friend & colleagues who have migrated to Toronto from Sydney. Toronto is very similar to Sydney. It has some of the most exspensive housing in the world. Canada & Australia's economy is based on economic growth through mass immigration. The cost of this policy, means you also need to restrict development & zoning regulations to artificially keep properties high. Governments need make your population continually, working as slaves, to pay for basic costs, of a largely welfare dependent society. While your a debt slave, you don't spend your money on foreign products, as you have very little in the way of exsports, to pay for imports. The upside to this, you have many slaves to pay for the never ending welfare, as you have a policy of supporting refugees, single parents & the disabled, over self reliance & responsibility. Mental health issues are largly created by society, they are very rarely genetic. The high cost of living, means, you cant afford families. No strong family ties means, poor mental health issues. When you outsource, what familes once did, like help the the elderly, support your unemployed brother & have children. Replace all what families did with government welfare, instead of families helping each other, replace reproduction with mass immigration. You end up creating enormous problems in society. Problems with mental health & crime.\nNow for your modelling career. In Japan, your a novelty, as you have a different look to the Japanese. However in Canada, for your age what are your best features. You only have one. You have very good skin. However your face shape, is slightly disproportionate, basically, meaning your just an average shape face. You could also work on going to the gym, as your not toned. So basically as a whole, for your age group, your slightly above average, say a 6 out of 10, which is not all that good as 60% of Canada's population are overweight. Now as a model, you need to compete with people who are younger & better proportioned 7,8 & 9's. No such thing as a 10.

I'm so sick of foreign people travelling to other nations and then complaining about the new nation. Rather than try to conform the country you have gone to as an immigrant and/or refugee... how about you just simply GO HOME.

Lack of affordable housing -- lack of housing in general -- is the main reason people already living here are being priced out and why so many refugees and immigrants cannot afford the cost when they move here. When these people come to Canada for a better life and/or to escape the suffering that they were living in, they cannot bring their homes with them. It is the government's responsibility at all levels to ensure that these newcomers have a place to go when they come here. A homeless shelter should not be the answer. Buy up office spaces and convert them (if safe to do so with whatever codes need to be met) into affordable housing units. For years we've been seeing hundreds of news articles about vacancies in office buildings being at all time highs, yet only a handful of them are being converted. 500,000 people a year entering a country where there isn't enough housing for them (let alone the people living here already) is irresponsible on the government's part. If this is your pledge, at least give these people a better life and not send them to shelters or onto the streets as soon as they arrive. If Canada is to truly be a safe haven for immigrants and refugees escaping their hardships, it's paramount that the government does what it can to make these people actually feel like their life will change for the better. I'm all for immigration since it helps the economy and knowing that Canada can put people in a better position for themselves and their families, but it's the lack of preparation from the governments that makes me question their pledge in this way.

Thanks for telling people the truth. People are never told the truth. The Canadian government website is written in simple English and French and is very straight forward and you can apply to come on your own, but people insist in going through agents who are just making money off of them. Please read the website in detail. The government hides nothing on their website. Don't blame the government and try to understand what some of the immigration lawyers and agents are doing to you. If you are not well versed in the English or French language, get someone to help you with the website and application. Stop paying unnecessary money and go directly to the government. The agents and lawyers will be doing exactly what you can do. Not all of them are genuine. The government tells you not to pay people money, come to them. There are refugees sleeping on the pavements. Why come to the country under those conditions. We don't have enough housing right now for people and rents at the condos are very high. A one bedroom apartment in Toronto is about $2,000 plus.

big problem with the housing is also trudeau taking in so many immigrants and refugees before having enough available housing for everybody. I think they were taking in 200k people a year. while we need atleast 1million new houses within the next 10 years in order to supply enough to the population. There was also an issue with forieign purchases where people from other countries were buying houses in canada and nobody living in them. Trudeaus votes comes from majority indian people and arabic since thats a lot of the population in canada, and to win those votes and get more hes friendly with them accepting a lot of immigrants from those countries, its not a bad thing since a lot are very well educated and their peaceful people for the most part, but the problem is there isn't enough housing. Even renting has become competitive , owning is near impossible without help. Trudeau really messed up the country, houses are riduclously expensive and they often go into bidding wars if in a good area, banks interest rates keep going up now, loans are harder to take out, sadly we need to limit the amount of immigrants that come into the country until the right number of houses are built in the country, if anything new and major cities need ot be build in other locations with jobs in order to get more people spread out around the provinces. Once there is enough houses and jobs i believe the doors should be open to whomever wishes to come (obviously with a background check) but until then there should be a limit so the houses stop going up.

I think if you were a doctor or a nurse in your old country and you immigrate to Canada you should be able to continue on in your medical field here in Canada without going through all the BS of exams. This is why we have a shortness of doctor's and nurses here in Canada because the frigging Government won't do anything about it. My grandparents immigrated from Italy and Ireland. They never got nice warm Canada Goose jackets, clothes, Nike shoes designer jeans, free English lessons or welfare. They paid there way, bought their land and found work LEGALLY, paid to learn English.\nThey did not steal unemployed Canadians jobs going through Trudeaus let’s hire out of the country so our government funds part of the wage. What we get are lousy heath care workers who barely understand or speak the English language and are caring for our Elderly and mistreating them. This I saw first had. I took my Mother home out of a senior home and cancelled home care as they never showed up on time. Would they leave there parent in a urine soaked brief for 5 hours as that is how late they were. I had to quit my job to take care of her. I myself am disabled with a spinal injure. The worst part of “Home Care workers” is that they wanted me to call in and cancel so they got paid. This statement gave from the Home Care nurse in charge of these immigrants working here. Seven of my friends, who are educated health care workers, which they themselves paid for, not paid my our government. They can’t get a job. The last job I applied for and they ask you status I put that I am a Canadian refugee in my own country. \nPretty sad when on Remembrance Day you have these woke individuals begging for money to help refugees. I'm an immigrant from El Salvador, I got in Canada with refugee status. I'm not rich or have a wealthy family. I have lived in both US and Canada, I have been in Canada for a long time now and would never go to the US. I also live in Edmonton and it is not even close to anything like they say it is. I feel some sympathy for her. She is now 28 the last order would have been sent to her mother in 2006 which her mother ignored (at the time she was maybe 14) she would not have had a clue about what happened as a minor, since she was only 6 when she arrived. She should have dealt with this when she was 18 but 10 years have passed...she seems to be contributing and well spoken it's a tough call. She could go back to France and reapply as a landed immigrant - perhaps that would save face for the government and for her to get in legally. No idea why her mother thought a refugee application was a good idea from France of all places...

I live in Toronto, Canada.\n\nFirstly, their are 500 men,women and children being placed in hotels temporarily. Much better than cages! \n\nSecondly, these individuals have already gone through the immigration process, hearing claims, back ground checks, medical checks. So these individuals in hotels have already been accepted to stay in Canada. They are in hotels due to Housing shortage issue. \n\nThird, way more illegal immigrants have been detained and removed from Canada. \n\nFourth, most of these people are families. Canada is very skeptical of accepting males. Sorry guys! \n\nFifth, these hotels have a contract with the government. These are the same hotels that were used to temporarily shelter Syrian refugees. Usually 3-4 families stay in one hotel. 500 people won't be staying in the same hotel. Plus the hotels charge the government an insane amount. So they make money. \n\nSixth, more than 10% of hotel cleaning jobs go unfilled. Guess what? Most of these asylum seekers end up working in the hotels they're staying in because of program called Employing Newcomers in Canadian Hotels Project. \n\nDon't worry about us America we know what we're doing. Trust me, no children were separated from their families and placed in cages.

I don't agree with illegal immigration but if the Canadian system is going to put someone through their court system instead of just throwing them out, then when the refugee loses his case the Canadian gov should at least reimburse them with their lawyer/court costs. To make the subject lose $15,000 for nothing is beyond \nfucked up.

Getting into Canada for immigrants isn’t as easy as people in the US may think.\nLots of people get turned away., a person has to healthy, and want to work, but refugees get a chance.\nsome slip through the cracks too, they get in, then go to work in the underground economy. \nThe immigrants that I’ve known know have to work very hard at staying.\nThey take the shit jobs nobody wants. \nBut they do it to get a chance at a new life. I feel for Jose, yet I wonder why he is not angry with his own government, with his own country for making him feel it was impossible for him to live and work in his own country. Why can he not go back there? How is that system lacking and what can be done to change it so that people don’t feel forced to leave. I'll lay it out for you: Me: typical middle of the road liberal oriented Canadian. Non white, immigrant (I wasnt born here) I worked in a Refugee housing for over 4 years in Ontario. Most were not war areas refugees (Yes I know there are other types of refugees). I only encountered few refugees from war areas. ONLY 1 person from Iraq, about 2 families were from Afghanistan, 1 couple from Pakistan(I doubt they were real refugees they spoke fluent English, maybe political refugee), and a most from African countries. Its too far for real refugees to get here. Its Easier for them to go to other countries nearby or Europe. MOST SEEM TO BE ECONOMIC REFUGEES. Most were coming from Africa. Some are coming from Latin America, which shouldn't be happening. Once they showed up at our doorstep and we processed them into the system, they were immediately in the same class as a Canadian resident homeless person if they were making a refugee claim. We get money to house and feed them (from the government), and they are given a stipend for basics from the government processed through the Social Assistance/ Welfare system (they get less than a resident/citizen I think.). They then have to get their case processed by the refugee board, and most seem to get in. I've only heard of few getting sent back. One person I know at our facility, was given a subsided social housing apartment after a year in our facility. So they went straight from a shelter to a government/city owned subsidized apartment. (Didn't seem like it was a issue for the housing worker...they didn't report it (if they were not the ones that helped the person to get it), they were white, the housed person was Latin. This refugee claimant, and then month or two new Canadian resident person was given an apartment in a prime area of the city, instead of the 1000's of Canadians, those who came before them, and born Canadian citizens on an extremely long waiting list. How this was allowed to happen I don't know. The person was probably sucking on someone's straw. I'm just trying to think the barriers these people have to go through to get a job here. We are far removed from the time of the 80's and 90's., and housing and jobs are so hard to get. Lol the "Canadian government asks them to repay the traveling cost to Canada if they are sent back"....I wonder how much the government recoups?.....more like 0 probably. What a bunch of crap. How do you demand someone to repay their flight cost when they get back to their country?

I agree with a lot of the things said in the comments. He didn't properly look into what is required for refugee status and came illegally so shouldn't receive preferential treatment. However, his not speaking English...where could he go to learn as an illegal immigrant? And likely he had to work long hours to save money for lawyers, etc. The language thing to me seems a bit harsh. He may even know passable English, but the reporters may have wanted the interviews to go more smoothly and so spoke in his native language.

This is strange, how they chose a subject for reportage. Refuge status is not for everyone who want to improve there economic situation. He must to prove that his life and life of his family was in danger, that he was discriminated and absolutely not have other choice, but ask for refuge in other country. It is very difficult to prove, even if it is true. 90% of all entry asking refugee status will go home. It look like he should try to make professional immigration and not waste his time on something that he never receive\nIt is amazing, how he feel in title, real refuge simply not have 15000$ to spend on lawyers \nJournalist must learn a little bit about subject before report on it.

What, did he think he would be given a free ride? Does he actually think immigrating to a new country wasn't going to cost him anything? How many years did he live in the US? And now, in Canada for the last 10+ months, yet he can't speak a fucking word of English? \n\nNow he complains that the process is taking too long, yet, had he immigrated legally (as he should have), it would have taken FAR longer and would have to spend that time inside his home country...\n\nI really don't get his attitude, he feels as though he's entitled to immigrate to the US, even though he made absolutely no effort in doing so legally, made absolutely no effort into learning the most widely spoken language on Earth, so he became a criminal by illegally crossing the border and living in the US for years... Then, when he's about to get busted and deported back to his home country, he pulls the exact same thing, illegally crosses the border into Canada, taking the money he's stolen from the US with him, while STILL unable to speak either official languages in Canada where speaking Spanish is about as useful as a condom in a lesbian orgy, nor making any effort into actually learning said languages, and tries to claim refugee status? Refugee status for what? He's not fleeing any war or conflict, the only thing he's fleeing is deportation to his home country from the US because he crossed the border into the US and lived there ILLEGALLY, he's a fucking criminal... And yet, he STILL feels he's entitled to cross the border into Canada and thinks they'll welcome him with open arms...\n\nWhere do these people get the idea that they have the RIGHT to just enter whatever country they wish without having to go through the immigration process? These processes are there for a reason, we don't allow just anyone to immigrate here...\n\nImmigrating to the US is a PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT... Immigrating to Canada is a PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT... \n\nThe fact that this guy and his family have entered 2 countries ILLEGALLY and stayed within its borders ILLEGALLY for all this time, and in both cases, REFUSED to learn the language, and when he was about to be deported back, he fled and kept hiding from immigration officers... That makes him and his family CRIMINALS, and rightfully so... They should be found immediately, arrested and subsequently deported back to the US to face whatever charges, and then deported back to his home country... Period...

No it’s not easy to come to Canada - you have to go through hoops. That’s a misconception. There aren’t a lot of illegals here which says a lot. We do love immigrants but you do have qualify for refugee status. We do have rules!

While i feel bad for this family, they cannot say they are refugees as they were refugees when they entered America yrs ago but they are not if they go from being away from their birth country for over a decade! I'm sorry but you ain't no refugee in Canada \nHere in Australia we have very tight immigration laws and its absolutely harder to get here as our country stands alone we have no linking countries.

This central american guy is no real refugee. He is just a law breaker who violated immigration laws so he could bypass the legal system and those who actually go through the process. Not only did he violate US and Canadian territory but also Mexican as well. I understand his motives, but no sympathy here for law breakers like him. There is an immigration process and he must respect it.
