Accountability should fall on the Government of Canada. They stopped screening properly. There used to be a point system that determined who could immigrate, and it actually worked. I’m of Pakistani descent, born and raised here, and when I’m in Brampton and walk into a Circle K, people start speaking to me in Hindi or Punjabi right away — it’s a trip. At the same time, I’m not saying everyone coming is bad. A lot of international students and new immigrants are hardworking people who want to build a better life. But plenty are also gaming the system. The real issue is that Canada messed up by letting in too many at once, with no structure to help them assimilate. When there’s no integration, no surprise people just act like they’re back home.

My parents immigrated to Canada from Portugal. They set about trying to be even more Canadian than someone born here. I have no problem with immigration, but I do start to when people refuse to adopt our customs and ways and just act as though they are still in India and don't respect Canada- the country they have moved to. They take advantage of our health care systems, benefits etc etc. I find it sad that Canada is starting to look nothing like the country I remember in my youth.

Cultural clustering is a natural phenomenon. When mutual respect and openness exist, diversity becomes a strength rather than a division. That said, the scale and pace of Brampton’s demographic change raise important policy questions. The Canadian government should have anticipated and planned for this transformation much earlier. Whether they did not act, or could not act, is a question only they can answer but it is central to understanding today’s challenges.

I couldn't get a job for over two years, I applied EVERYWHERE, they would say they're not hiring, then a week later I'll see a new worker or two being trained and guess what? they're indian/punjab (sorry, unsure all the proper terms of people or the differences). I am a Canadian born and bred. I ask these questions, could we, as Canadians, go to India or China or any other country to live and act the way these people do, say the things that they say and get away with it. Do you think I, as a white Canadian, could go to India (for example)and demand they change their traditions and religions because it doesn't suit me? Everybody knows the answer is no. You know, I am an immigrant myself but I have always have had a beef how other immigrants act all entitled. Immigrating is like going to live in another people's house, you have to respect the rules of that house. I hate people trying to change the rules to their convenience. But many is like they are looking forward to get laid off or fired to collect government benefits. Here's the whole problem/situation summarized: Canada has been getting treated like it's a vacation resort rather than a country.
