First acknowledge that a country has the right to control its borders. The US has lost its Aircraft industry (Boeing), its Car industry (Detroit) and now its Semiconductor industry (Intel). Millions of unscreened people are infiltrating. Trump is trying. In the case of Canada and Mexico tariffs are counter-productive. Its tough to turn a declining empire around. His strategy is to tax foreign goods instead of taxing US resources and to force local production. The US citizen pays either way.

If we are going to be an authoritarian, antidemocratic, fascist dictatorship, we have to shed our old friends who would get all judgy about the the human rights abuses. So, step one, destroy relationships with friends.
