As a Canadian who lived and worked in the US for 10 years, I can honestly say the US is BETTER in almost every way! I am a nurse who lived and worked in both countries,band I feel most Canadians are just ignorant to the truth that Canada costs more to live in with a much lower standard of living. We are taxed to death, get substandard healthcare while being fed propaganda that we have it so “good” here. Also as a whole, Canadians are lazier than Americans, and have a sense of superiority that really isn’t warranted. Even with insurance in the US, if you have a baby, you will be paying tens of thousands of dollars. In Ontario Canada where i live i paid zero dollars. What if someone with prexisting health issues tries to have insurance as an entrepreneur? God forbid they have a child or they will have a huge bill. I'm Canadian and worked in Dertoit for almost 10 years, I crossed the border daily working for GM. I've also done work in Louisiana, Indiana and all around Michigan. \nAmerica has some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It's a beautiful country and has a ton to offer anyone with an ounce of drive. The variety you have in your economy is amazing, we don't have a lot of choice when we buy stuff, you guys have so much more to choose from, take restaurants for example, I've never seen so many chain restaurants in one place, we have a handful of them. \nFrom what I've seen, there's also a lot of poverty, crime and violence, but that's literally everywhere right now, even here in Canada, we don't prosecute violent crime anymore. The gun issue is probably the biggest problem...I always felt extremely vulnerable out in public, especially driving, because I assumed everyone had a gun on them, I seen so many random guns on people, it just blew my mind. I always had to keep in mind when I was driving not to road-rage...That's how you get shot. The health care industry in America is nothing but a business model designed to bankrupt people. Our system isn't great at all...nothing to boast about. If you have to visit the ER at any hospital, you'd better bring food and water, you'll be there at least 8 hours before you're even seen by a doctor. Our health care is free yes, but we're taxed to death here because of it. I do indeed wish we had a 2-teir health care system, I want the option to pay to get seen soonest. America and Canada have free(ish) speech. We're both being ruled by leftist loonies, but that's all changing in our next respective election cycles. Any trip outside the United States will tell you about how few people would want to move to the US if they could live in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or Europe instead. Probably a whole lot of other places, too. The United States has too many of its citizens living in fear. That’s a culture whose very admirable democratic and social goals are subverted by worshipping aggression and religious extremism, the very things they say they were fighting against in the Middle East and Afghanistan. As an immigrant to the US, you summed up the issue very nicely. Another thing I noticed is that people who cannot get an h1b visa sometimes would go to Canada, get a Canadian passport to secure an insurance, and then come look for a job on TN visa or EB1 visa in the US. As an immigrant who comes to the US on a EB3 visa, I really hope that the US can prioritize employment based visas instead of family based or even illegals immigrants for the future of the country. One thing that makes a lotta EB immigrants scratch our heads is that why would the US government put all their efforts in taking in illegal immigrants and grant them a safe path to citizenship instead of taking care of the ones coming in legally first. Not to say the other group isn’t important, but it’s a weird way to prioritize things.

I would 100% go to the us for vacation even for a whole month, but it’s a big NO to move over the border. \n\nReasons why: \n\n1. As an international student to the US, it's all so extremely stressful as mentioned by this video. First, after you graduate you have 90 days to find a job before being deported. Then, when you do find a job, you can only work for a year unless you're stem, then you can work for another company for another 2 years. Then there's the H1-B. Suffice to say, the lottery system is completely random. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how talented you are, H1-B is a lottery and you could get screwed over at any moment.\n\nIf you so much as dare to be unemployed (like in the recent tech firings), you have 90 days to find a new job before you're deported. Also h1-B only lasts for 6 years. Also moving companies on H1-B is a really hard ask. \n\nIt's all too cruel. Even I am considering moving to Canada myself.

As a Canadian with family in the US, I will say this. My cousin and her husband are leading medical doctors in their field. They both left NY to go back to Montreal. Another cousin is a corporate lawyer who also moved back to Canada, even though he made a lot of money. In all three cases, they did not want their children growing up in the US. Random violence was a major concern, indeed, Canada has a travel advisory on the US for this reason. Also, my cousin could not take the private health care system. She wanted to treat ppl regardless of insurance and in the US she couldn't while in Canada, cost is never a concern. My lawyer cousin also disliked the US private medical system. Rather than his doctor having control it was his insurance company. Lastly, was the quality of life. All three mentioned that the food supply in the US is way too processed.

As a European I would say don’t complain! Neither Canada or the US! At least the bulk of your immigrants are educated! Many, many Canadian DOCTORS move to the USA. They scoop up their taxpayer-subsidized, cheap medical degree here in Canada. Then, because they know how overworked doctors are here in Canada, they move to the USA for HIGHER income, LOWER taxes and they never, ever have to pay Canadian taxpayers back for what we gave them -- their affordable medical degree. Lawyers don't usually move to the USA because their legal knowledge is too specific to Canada and doesn't transfer as well as medical knowledge does. Americans die because they aren't medically covered. Canadians die WAITING for healthcare. We wonder why our healthcare system isn't delivering. It's because 1) our medical schools accept too many foreign students who never intend to practice medicine here in Canada, because their inflated international tuition fees bolster the economics of the schools of medicine, and 2) because few Canadians who study in Canadian schools of medicine intend to stay in Canada to practice. Here's a reason to revamp how we subsidize medical degrees. 1) We subsidize doctors with a contract saying they agree to practice in Canada for __ years, or 2) if they move to the USA, they owe us the actual cost of their education.

The thing about the job health insurance that a lot of Americans don't really think of as a business case: If a person has their insurance tied to their job, they will almost never be able to move to another one if they develop a life-threatening condition. Even with diminished bars of entry due to pre-existing conditions, your health insurance can be denied if you transition to another company. If you are denied, your best healthcare options are then tied to your income, and that means you basically have to be unemployed and living on social entitlements. \n\nThe thing is, this locks you into your position, and you are literally at the mercy of the company which means you're only going to be doing the minimum amount of work necessary to not get fired. If you have a socialized/universal single-payer healthcare plan, your job is no longer a limiting factor, you can switch employers basically at-will. The boon for businesses is that people will be more able to move rather than have to get you to do a dance with your insurance company. \n\nThe other thing for me is that having been in the US, I felt less safe in blue states than I did in Canada, and I felt worse in red states. The USA is a beautiful country, but it's a STRANGE society. One thing I can say is the USA tends to get bright fast once they catch on to how big a problem actually is, so here's to hoping that happens soon because brother, you have a mess of problems on your plate. \n\nThis isn't the only thing, but FWIW, I have had multiple opportunities to move to the US for work, and I work in a field where I can command a very good salary, but I choose to not live there. As Canadian citizen, hell no I will never move to US. A lot of Canadians would say same thing and I'm sure a lot of people in other democratic countries would say this too. US was a really good and great place to live in the past, but each year it becomes worst. Have you already heard about the decline of American Empire? I have heard Americans say that the healthcare is very good, as long as you have money. Diff or other drug-resistant infections in hospitals there.\n\nI spent about two weeks in the hospital in February. You know what it cost me? Absolutely nothing. Well, I did have to pay for taking an ambulance later. But the hospital stay itself cost me nothing. I don't know anyone that owns a gun, I don't know of anyone who has gone bankrupt for being sick, and I never worry my granddaughter going to school and being shot.

I’m with my fellow Canadians, I’ll visit the US (although even then, it’s beginning to look less and less ideal) but over my dead body would I live there. \nThe fact you have become desensitized and don’t discuss school shootings is baffling. 4 or 5 years ago, there was a shooting where I live in Canada. The whole city was on lock down. I believe one elderly woman died, and 3 were injured. The person was caught, arrested, and is rotting away in jail. It hasn’t happened since. People still remember it. My little sister and I were scared, so we hid in my bedrooms closet. (It was on the second floor, and there was no way anybody could break in and get up there easily.)\n\nHealthcare is a huge issue. My family has a long line of health issues, and with that in mind, the risk is just to obscene.\n\nI am a woman. The fact that laws are being stripped away from us by old white men who have no idea what it is like to be a woman in the states is horrifying. \n\nGun culture. It’s near-on impossible or at least it’s incredibly difficult to get guns here. Owning guns isn’t respected. When people die from being shot, it’s remembered and spoken about, even years later. At least to me, it seems you care more for your Guns and the rights to own and use them, then Women who want to have bodily autonomy.\n\nYour political issues. I don’t even know what to say at this point beyond. The entire senate is rich old straight white men who like to make laws about groups they aren’t part of, and strip laws away from others. You basically have two polar opposite sides of the political spectrum and that alone, divides people so deep they can’t even be in the same room for more then 10 seconds.\n\n\nI’m Part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Enough said. \n\nI’m well aware that not everyone in the US is like this. But in my eyes, that’s more then enough to deter me. I’m glad you decided to take a look at this, and see our reactions to the questions. And I’m glad you didn’t take offence to the harsh or bitter answers. Sure Canada isn’t perfect, but it’s better in enough ways to keep me much preferring staying here.

You say if you've in a small place your children are safe in school. Really?? Do you think the people living in Uvalde (population 15,000) feel safe after 19 children and 2 staff were slaughtered? You do not believe mass shootings are that bad or maybe as an American you are just used to it...Wake up!...300 mass shootings so far this year. You say that most people are 'ok' with health care as Americans are insured through their work Really? What about the 30 000,000 Americans with no health care and the 112,000,000 who \nare struggling pay for health care.  \nYou elected a psychopath for President and he is now running for President again after being indicted twice and is facing at least 2 more. Again I say ,,,Wake Up! I am amazed that you know so little about your own country. Do your research and use your platform to make better changes for you fellow countryman and especially countrywomen.\nBTW...I am Canadian and will never move to the USA. Even though Canada is certainly not perfect it is WAY better then the US.

No, one of the things that I love about our Canada is\nfor the most part we treat our police with respect and\nthey for the most do the same, they are just people\nwith a different job to do and we are not scared of them.\nWe love you America you are a big brother to us but we\njust do not want to live in the same house as you, one\nof the reasons for that is you have too many guns in\nthe gun cabinet (case). There are so many different\n people of different nations getting along with each other\nand loving Canada its really something to see, words cannot\nexpress how much I love our great country of Canada.\nOh, and we have 3 different serious political parties instead\nof 2, so the politicians know they can be replaced in 2 seconds\nflat if they try to be an idiot, we the people put them in office\nnot some college or other nonsense across the country somewhere,\nbecause it's not their country, it's our country, and it's working pretty\npretty dam well thank you. As a Canadian living in north western Ontario at the north west of lake superior about 50 miles from the boarder. I would move to the United states if given choice of state like Alaska, Montana, and maybe Texas. no real reason i can enjoy guns here but not all the guns i would like to own are legal in Canada anymore for weird reasons, and if it was the states of my choosing i would still have enough free space to get lost in and enjoy nature with fishing or hunting. If I couldn't pick were i lived in the US I would say not at all do to the vast differences in culture state to state county to county and even times down to street to street.
