Canada just needs to fix the trade deficit with the United States. If Trudeau does, the U.S. tariffs would not happen. Canada has turned a deaf ear when the U.S. requested a fair trading partner and less deficits in the past decades. Trump was obligated to put a tariff on Canadian goods entering the U.S. since Canada did not resolve the problem.

From the UK I cannot for the life of me see what Benefit these tariffs are to the US and why Trump has taken a sledgehammer to the trust between America and its allies. It is simply incredible.

If anyone is wondering about the reason of Trump's tariffs: Tariff is source of revenue for the government which is not based on salary. The rich and the poor of the USA will pay the same amount of it for a specific product. This revenue will then serve the US government to decrease the income tax, which is based on percent of revenue (i.e higher income people pay much more taxes). The tax cuts means those with higher revenue will get to keep more of it. So at the end of the day more of the governments revenue will come from those with lower revenue. Thus unfortunately widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

How come no one talks about the trade war Canada imposes on the United States. Who is asking about the tariffs they impose on us?? Lmfao ?.. can we get journalism that gives us both sides of the argument??? That’s what Americans actually want

if a country with a net deficit puts 25% tariffs on the net credit trader, and the net credit puts on 25%, the net deficit profits substantially overall, they collect more tariffs, consumers just buy local, so more national business growth etc. i.e. canada is screwed, the us does well out of this. if the us put on 100% tariffs on canada, that country would go bankrupt, and the us would be fine.

I understand the Mexico tariffs because of the rampant illegal migration. The drugs and cartels coming across the border. Action is required there.

as a Canadian, i would like to thank Donald and Elon for their plans to implement the most innovative degrowth agenda imaginable. why dance around the edges like Canada has with its consumer carbon tax that rebated more money to most citizens than they spent on carbon taxes ? no, the DOGE solution to addressing climate change is much better .. just cripple the three north american economies with tariffs, put hundreds of thousands of citizens out of work, and make the Trump tax cuts permanent so that the federal government is broke as well. no more money means no more spending or consuming .. it's a win for the entire planet !!

It's great that the fentanyl problem is being attacked at the border. What about Canada inside the borders? Why did it take Trump to impose tariffs for Canada to respond to the drug problem? And what about dealing with China? Most of the chemical compounds have been brought in from there...thousands of kids have died and Canada has not addressed China's conspiracy with this. More than half of us DID NOT vote for him, and those that did likely had no idea what tariffs were or certainly didn’t understand how they work. Tariffs should be 100% equal between trading partners. In Japan, the tariff on a new American car can be up to 100% of the cost of the car just to buy it. (Why is a question for the shoppers) this is simply wrong AMONG TRADING PARTNERS…. Trump is doing some of his TYPICALLY STUPID MOVES.

I wonder why any nation would not equally respond. Trump pretty much declared economic warfare on all nations with putting tariffs on everyone. If all of them choose to put counter tariffs on the US, i doubt the US will be able to weather such storm without a scratch.

Between Friday's disaster with Zelensky and today's imposition of tariffs on Canada, the evidence is clear. Trump's America has joined Russia in an alliance intended to demolish the world's democracies.

As a Canadian, I can tell you that I won't be buying anything made in US, product of US or even shipped from the US, even if tariffs were removed tomorrow, I will continue to boycott as long as the orange buffoon is the president.
