I'm a canadian in my late 20s and now I can't even afford a home. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against all the people that have came here, but there has been too many in too short of a time period. The government should've propped up the infrastructure to accommodate these immigrants before initiating this plan of overimmigration. Sure you are giving us a first time home buyer credit and only allowing individuals with a PR to purchase a home, but there is still an underlying issue of how born and raised citizens are now struggling. I cannot imagine how much worse it is for those who are coming here for an education. Not to include the lack of jobs, it is a tough job market out there as well, I may have to move to the US to have a professional career, which is not ideal because I want to stay in Canada.

Why everyone is blaming the government when its clearly the college owners making false promisses and trying to shove in as many students for 5 times the regular fees in their makeshift universities as fast as possible without building them housing and puting naive people in everlasting debt because they graduated way more people than the job market could acomodate for that course?\n\nHonestly us high time Canadians start taking large corporations acountable for how they affect the economy, I say if you need more housing make them pay for it or they are not getting any more students, also limit the amount of college positions to the amount of actual job openings and a lot less people are going into college debt traps.

This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Artists and musicians help make a city great, but many cannot afford to live here.\n\nFamilies and communities staying together means more support for those with young kids and older relatives when they need help. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. I think that will help

In my 60 years here in Canada I have never seen things this chaotic or confused or angry or bigoted. I am guilty of some of this myself and I am ashamed. I feel frustrated at the lack of opportunity and success that we used to have here in Canada. I have placed the blame on others, instead of on a government that has no direction or sense of how to do anything except raise taxes continually only to waste it, embezzle it, or allow it to be stripped from the country and taken to other countries. Corporations and criminal enterprises complete the triumvirate of evil, and turn us all against one another. I think we need a change in government, a healthy corporate tax rate, many more small businesses( that are not franchises ), and a return to making what is needed and supplying it for a fair and cheap price. No more billionaire money hoarders or corporate fat cats. None of us have benefitted from this system they created.

It's not a housing bubble. A bubble is when investors overvalue a commodity. Even taking into account speculative property purchases, housing isn't overvalued in Canada. It is where it is because that is where the market has found the balance between the high demand and the low supply. There simply isn't enough housing being built to accommodate a million more people a year. We need to build more lower and middle-class housing. As a student of both history and architecture, I can tell you we've been here before and we dealt with it, and we can again. This situation is both a result of many factors that could and couldn't be centrally controlled. Things that couldn't be controlled: Covid and a spike in retirement rates, an aging population, low profit margins for builders, and inflation (that last one is not so easy for a central bank to control as many people seem to think it is). Factors that could be controlled: Zoning laws and bylaws, linking immigration to the amount of housing available and being built, government greed for foreign money to balance their books, short-sighted politicians of all stripes, underfunding of post-secondary education, and lack of government incentives to make building worthwhile for contractors. I've probably missed some things, but the point is that this is not an intractable predicament, and good leadership, good ideas and the will to make things happen can get us out of it.

Living in Toronto, I've seen this city degrade year after year in so many aspects and no-one seems to give a damn to offer anything but platitudes. \n\nIt's sad that the apathy from politicians and people has brought us to this point.

Left Canada when I was 16 and never wish to return. About the media Canada's media and American media has been owned and corrupt by most of the same people. You really never got to know US, though they have their troubles. For example, the same as Canada, they return to voting for the most corrupt of politicians and those who wish to ruin North America. Were you better off 3.5 years ago or now is the most simple question that should be asked of everyone. Good thing you lived in Vancouver, because in many parts of Canada they are always argu and fight internally.

Many of you are so disrespectful of our amazing country and our democracy. Try working a full week, pay your taxes and be internally happy to be blessed to live here. Many of you will be lining up for Canadian OAS, CPP and disability insurance while working at jobs that don’t require too much effort, education or commitment. I which I could send you all to North Korea, Iran, Russia , India or ,Central America to get a taste of these autocratic countries. Your mostly useless un-Canadian whom we can’t depend onto fight with NATO for our Canadian sovereignty. Totally agree about the immigration problem.\n I would add that this is one of many channels of dissenting opinions that I need to re-subscribe every time I log into one of them. U tube is co-operating with government to silence dissension. U tuber developers need to remind us all to watch out for this underhanded tactic.

For some nations Canada turned into nightmare by spoof call attack. Many people died or killed. This kind of attack using impersonation by foreign country agents to target some people like me and many of my friends. Unfortunately most Asian and black and Latino people easily get fooled and used as a tool for attacker to target some people. Drug problem is another big issue in Canada and USA but fortunately gun violence is less than US. Healthcare getting worse everyday. Bad neighborhood experience which destroyed my health for life mostly because of spoof call attack. Bad policing which killed many innocent people. Woke laws and culture which marginalized men who are driving force of society. Very weird working experience. Work for yourself or get enslaved by another employer that's why people would love to work for government. Housing prices skyrocketing in big cities and there is no foreseeable future for its remedy. Cold weather for six month of year and at the end COVID force closure killed many of people and hospitalization was so bad. Anywhere there was no hospitalization people life were saved. There is no open market like many countries which are backed by government to buy goods in reasonable price for low income people. Very restricted laws for driver license. Life in Canada is far from normal kills you or make you disable for life without getting you paid. Now I disabled for couple of years and I'm outside of Canada and just my family saved my life because I couldn't work because of disability due to spoof call attack which cause severe peripheral neuropathy. Even there is no any protocol for this illness to get cured and forced me to see many MDs and cost me lots of money. Many of us Canadians who are born and raised here have been living here for generations. Our grandparents and great parents immigrated here and helped build this country. Many of us are hard working people and have no problems with immigrants that move here to WORK, go to school get an education become a productive member of society, make a good life for themselves. The immigrants that come here expecting a hand out, expect Canadian laws and Canadians to occomidate them. To expect our laws to change to accommodate them, well that won't happen here. Many of us are hard working blue collar people especially in the Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario. Most of us won't put up with bullshit. This isn't being is racist or predjiced it's called show some respect.

How many 10 year olds own the homes,put the kids on mortgage,when 30 own all the homes in canada,raise prices then take the homes,we know what country is controlling and doing this to us,black red flag the leaf and stars added,we should be worried and sad.

Many ways we could go about fixing this crisis. Obviously heavily limiting immigration would help, banning all diploma mills that are just student visa scams. Forcing municipalities to get rid of their awful zoning and restrictive rules, could be streamlined by running a nationwide referendum to make zoning a federal jurisdiction and not provincial/municipal and then just adopt something similar to japanese zoning nationwide. Banning or heavily restricting Airbnbs is an other thing that would help. A lot of what the BC NDP with Eby is doing should be done nationwide for sure. Regarding all the homeless people, we could offer them a job to build infrastructure, houses in exchange for a bed and food, something akin to what was done in the New Deal. Could be a super efficient way to get something like high speed rail built quickly. It'd be a contract they'd sign for 5-10 years and at the end of the deal they get compensation for the work they did. Also not every homeless can live in society. When conservatives got rid of institutions like mental asylums, all the people with non fixable conditions got thrown in the streets. Those are people who just can't, regardless of how much we do to help them, live in society, but their people like us so a modernized, humane version of the mental asylums would help a ton not just for these people, but also their family members who'd know that their kid or sibling is somewhere safe.

About Palestinians, yes they have to not leave their land. But unfortunately Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and many more undercover alliances of Isr@el, us@, & eu shame on you, what are you doing? Where is so-called world leadership??? Inflation is higher than what they say.. real estate prices are out of touch with the actual wages and salaries.. cost of food is unbelievable… rent is ridiculous.. Wages are laughable.. taxes are insane.. we are also taxed on so many things on top of income tax such as .environment, carbon, plastic, sugar tax etc… it is insane.. Healthcare is going through crisis… Getting MRI takes ages.. So now they wanna bring 500k in the midst of all this ? It is going to screw us more .. This interview completely misses the point by interviewing the “wrong” immigrant. Immigrants to Canada leave for the U.S. because Canada prefers “high value” immigrants (e.g., physicians, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs with excellent track records, occupations that are expensive to train and/or individually contribute a lot to the GDP) that the U.S. would also like to attract. Not only can many of these people make more money in the U.S., but they often encounter more help and/or less restrictions with professional licenses (e.g., most states have an industrial exemption for engineers, and do a better job at helping foreign doctors and nurses get their licenses to practice medicine). How many times have we heard of a foreign professional reduced to driving a taxi or becoming a housewife when they move to Canada because an immigration official didn’t properly inform the immigrant of the hoops they would have to jump through, and the provincial professional association offered minimal, if any, assistance? \n\nThis PhD student (and others with more academic than lucrative educations) may think he’ll have it made moving to the US but I think he overestimates his value. The small liberal arts colleges that may have hired someone with his background are decreasing in number or changing to a more technical focus (usually to computer science because it doesn’t require expensive labs needed in medicine or engineering). American students are now more critically examining what degrees, if any at all, will lead to better paying careers, and I doubt Myanmar is on their radar as a money-making opportunity.

Why you are always attacking the international students? We pay rent, taxes, CPP, tuition. We are the best students and most brilliant people of our own countries. We didnt come here for food, most of us come from wonderful countries with better weather beaches etc. We are here to contribute to this country as a new adventure while our intention remains returning home one day. Rest assured that many other countries offer better living conditions such as cheap university kitchen where you can eat and not worry about the meals, dorms just a few meters from classes etc. I tried one week applying in indeed and I got 6-7 job offers so there are plenty of jobs around. Look at the photos you are posting, most are from africans who came to canada illegally from mexico-us route or ocean-Quebec ships. Why dont you count millions of Ukrainian who are here taking your taxes and most of them doing nothing not even knowing English! Apparently you havent travelled that much overseas so your angle of view is narrow so I am not going to waste time seeing your videos. Good luck!

I have seen many indian officials in india and almost all of them are not quick to anger. Even if they are bad mouthed or accosted . That is level of their training. \n\n Even if they are corrupt, they will not loose cool. They will smile all along. Leaving Canada??? Are you kidding me? If all these disillusioned immigrants are leaving, then why do us born and raised Canadians see every major city of ours being overtaken over by these immigrants, specifically the South and east Asian variety, in every single one of them? Here is statistic for you on one of them.....more than 75% of the people who live in Toronto, are from another country!! 75%, and Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and every other big city we have are catching up to that percentage as we speak. I laugh my ass off when I when I see a tiny minority group like yours claiming that immigrants are leaving at a rapid pace. I suppose though it might appear that way to you if you were not born here to begin with and witnessed the massive change in our immigrant population over the past 30 years like us born and raised Canadians have. Harrison, you've laid it all out here in plain English. Even the immigrants are mumbling and stumbling over each other these days. Many younger (under 50) Canadians among us have been indoctrinated by our education system with it's left leaning doctrine, to believe this massive influx of immigrants is good and as it should be in Canada. Naturally they have no model to compare with other than stories from their elders as to how things used to be. So they have blindly accepted the status quo without question. \nOf course, many(most)politicians, teachers, professors, reporters etc. being members of this same under 50 age group have reinforced this lie. As you've clearly pointed out, at the end of the day are those that profit from such a policy, like employers large and small, landlords and of course politicians who reap the favors of those in the winners circle. And the losers, all those in the under 50 age groups who scratch their head and wonder why they have no job, no medical care, no house and no future. Good post!

Pretty much everything is overrated and overpriced, can’t even travel domestically and enjoy what we have. I tried so hard to settle down in this beautiful country but the men in the suit made everything expensive and controllable. Sad to say, Canada can't be forever home for many of us.

In the past 2 years - I have spent 3 months in Toronto, and last year, 3 months in Montreal...and it is like the Tale of Two Cities! In Toronto, I stayed at a friend's off the park that abuts Queens St, and Dundas St. on the far side. I barely got a good night's sleep - from the constant wailing of Sirens at ALL Hours of the night/early morning! I witnessed several incidents of random violence - including on the trolly cars, and many of them involving homeless Indigenous people ...who were historically shit-on by Canada! In comparison to US Cities - Toronto minded me of problem-plagued SF, Seattle, and Portland. The Density factor reminded me of NYC, minus the Positive Street savvy that New Yorkers have in spades! I did meet some very nice people, but overall - Torontonians were uptight, concerned about money all the time, and sometimes - just downright rude! Fast-Forward to Montreal. I stayed in Le Plateau...renting a room for 3 months. Lovely House-mates - One Turkish/Polish Woman, and an Iranian Man - both were quirky, and Delightful! My rent was very decent, and my Host showed me all the affordable places to eat, swim for free, free Yoga in the parks...within 2 days, I felt at Home! It was 3 days before I even noticed a siren! Drivers stoped for pedestrians, and as it was summer - the bike-lanes were full of bike riders! The Green Spaces were plentiful, and Parc Mount Royal is a Terrestrial Paradise! Were there some social issues? - of Course! French being the official language, the Quebecois are a VERY Proud, and defiant lot! That was difficult at first, and then...learning some history of Quebec, you begin to understand their irascible defenses! There was some homelessness (a Fraction of what I see in the US, and Toronto!), and prices are creeping-up (the common complaint!), and there was a lot of construction, and road repairs - as Quebec is NOT a wealthy part of Canada, overall. In short - I miss Montreal DEEPLY! Toronto? - I have a good friend there, and I hope to see a few of the folks I met there, Again. Travel Impressions are mainly subjective, but I know where my heart, and affection lie!

More than half of US imports come from Mexico. Mexico has helped out the US in war many times. Mexicans help keep your agriculture up and running and for a very very low wage without a problem. Yes it’s illegal but your hard working Americans that own those farms don’t seem to mind, and prefer it actually. Mexico does so much for their lazy northern neighbors and yet yall treat us as if we were satan. On top of it, yall wanted these people in your country just to realize that they fit the definition of “dangerous mexican” better than actual mexicans. I am a Czech pilot and our company contracts us with different companies. I spent over half a year in Canada between 2018-2020. I have returned for the first time since Corona pandemic and I was shocked by the price increase everywhere. It was not a cheap country back then in my eyes but it costs an arm and a leg just to fill the stomach. Prices have doubled for many comodities since 2018. Sure in Europe it used to be way cheaper than it is now... but here it just blew my mind.\nYet half of the cars on the roads are huge pickups, people are dining out...

We have so many immigrants leaving. Trudeau is socialist and dictator making everything overprice. We have plenty of resources, but the Government hates the people and want to bring true socialism to people. They dont want us to own cars and houses. The UK people must fight for their freedom too.

As a Canadian, I love immigration. As a renter though, our government failed us so hard. They defunded our housing in hopes that the private market would pick up the slack. It didn't, then because of our economy/demographics are we had to massively increase immigration. It broke a system that was already crumbling. Now a whole generation of people will never be able to afford to buy their own home many of us can't even afford the rent. Is it that surprising the majority of our legislators are landlords?

And how many of us are stuck here...

Hallelujah! It's been insane! Many cities don't even look like a Canadian city from even 5 years ago. Places like Toronto etc now all look like New New Delhi. It's sad to see Canadian culture being wiped out. And there is no place to live. The immigration policy in Canada is the most aggressive in world history (about 5x more immigrants per capita than places like US or Britain which also have way too aggressive immigration policies). \n\nIt's odd how we are always told here that people shouldn't marry or have kids for environmental/climate reasons (ugh) and yet Canada is bringing in so many people trying to QUADRUPLE our population by 2100. How insane is that?

I am one of the victims who fell for it got a study permit spent $55000 to go there and got only a certificate and was asked to leave the country after an agency scammed me and messed up my paperwork plus I was living off credit cards for my last few months. Stay away from Canada too many of us have suffered it was a horrible experience the country is in-liveable even with my office job

Many organizations have a culture of meek compliance to rules, which may not make sense. Most Canadians try to avoid standing out, and standing out is likely to be seen by your boss and peers as threatening. No one wants to rock the boat.\n\nThese rules and expectations may differ substantially according to the politics and beliefs of the employer. For instance, overtime may be highly encouraged in one place and discouraged in another. But the veneer of handling things in a highly compliant and pleasant way is always there, with a hidden expectation that you will speak positively about the biases of your boss or owner. In other words, the common factor is that bosses often have fragile egos or are afraid of anything that challenges the status quo. This harms critical thinkers and innovators who often leave to the US or China, but also immigrants who have even larger barriers to working within the status quo. \n\nEven among better bosses I have had, I notice this tendency towards intense discomfort with ideas that come from outside of their direct experience. Though at least with my current boss and one other I had in the past, there is an intellectual curiosity and empathy which helps them gradually open up to unfamiliar things (and they're just awesome people in general). But I still notice this bias sometimes. It's definitely cultural.

I find many canadians have never been anywhere than the US or some american owned resort. as a result many canadians dont realize the problems here and how to fix it.Dont trust any canadian political party.Canada is the 51st US state run by week kneed politicians.that cater to the US war machine.

Many Canadian and American citizens are also facing difficult living conditions, not just immigrants! The economy and govt suqq and don't care about any of us.

Canada stopped to offer opportunities. Bad political and administrative decisions(based mostly on greed) created a cap Canada can’t pass. It’s their bottleneck and I know many people that have moved to US where although is not all good still much better than Canada nowadays.
