Third world country folks will try to land a PR (permanent residency) in Canada (by masquerading as a 'student visa') as a holding ground. Once they obtain it, they will try to move to the USA on a work visa. It's a loophole being exploited by Indians, Arabs, and Filipinos. Non-third world country folks like and Mainland Chinese and some South Koreans & Japanese, will do the same on living in Canada then find ways to move to the USA from Canada. Sorry, but Canada is turning brown. California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois are filled with Indians and middle easterns, and same goes for most of Europe. I've worked with so many Indians and Arabs, after their USA work visa is over, so they move back to Canada and continue to work remote. It's no joke and infested with third world folks.

But there are lot illegal immigrant & refugees entry Canada in monthly based…. Middle East, south east Asia, & PRC China… especially China economy is collapsing, young people entering the country pretending to be a student to get a visa & then looking for Chinese co. to hire them… such as in restaurants, 0:52 Chinese food mart, construction works, logistic & food delivery!!\nThose got educated will have great prospects to work in US & European Co.

There is no free lunch and governments are poorly equipped to manage economies because economic systems are too complex to be centrally managed. Just ask Argentinians, Chinese, Russians, etc. Once China took over Hong Kong, I told my wife that China has just sealed its own fate. Free markets (saddled with only the most necessary of regulatory oversight) have been proven to be the most effective. When so many Palestinian Houses have been decimated by the bombing and the infastucture destroyed there will be thousands in desperate need of rapidly but well built homes if they are to remain on their land. I'd like to suggest something. The Chinese have recently come up with a way to extremely quickly build modular homes that can both be stably stacked high and dissassembled and moved to another location. If the design is made appropriate for the regions climate this could be a great solution. I hope it could be done ecologically and with healthy materials. The longer they go without housing the higher the mortality rate will be. This solution means people could be housed even before any final agreement is made on where the houses will be in 10 or 20 years time.

I am Canadian and left in 2003 to learn Chinese. I now work in Asia and best decision I ever made. I now go back ever summer to see family. Canada is a-have-not economy compared to the rest of the world.

I came to Canada over 20 years ago. My own thoughts are that Vancouver is a place where people tend to immigrate and often stay in their own ethnic groups. Particularly Chinese and HK people. I live in a part of Vancouver that is now almost all Chinese and HK people and they mostly don't speak English, and I don't speak Cantonese or Mandarin except for a few words, so we'll never know anything about each other. So, you write off ever knowing your neighbors'. Also the people born in Canada or who came here as small children and went through school together, particularly high school tend to have friend groups that are exclusive to them and it's hard to get past that you aren't one of the 'original' group members. Also, it's dark and rainy here for a good 5 months of the year and there is absolutely nothing going on outside that you can just casually go and do. There's skiing and things, but if you are from a country that has busy street life and street food and night markets, here is the opposite.. go outside in December in the dark and rain and see almost nobody and if you do they probably will just look at the floor. My friends are mostly other immigrants, and that's cool! But for me Canada has been a success financially and a bust socially. I'm fortunate that I bought my house 15 years ago, but if I had to pay the ridiculous rent that people have to pay, on top of the boring social life here I'd be gone from here !

Canada and the US only became FAR more developed in the 20th Century compared to all other countries because of their geographic location. They were able to develop with all the wisdom and knowledge of the Old Continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe) but without their total wars and upheavals to fuck things up. Canada and the US got two centuries of unmolested development. So as the rest of the world catches up, we come to realize just how mediocre Canada has always been. We're a less competitive people. Canada's health care system is not the same everywhere. Montreal has a Chinese hospital in Chinatown; it gets test results much faster than regular clinics. McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is a state of the art hospital in Canada and provides English health care services in Montreal.

My husband is from China, Im from Hong Kong. We both came around 2000, at the time houses were cheap and affordable. We met and married after we became Canadian in 2004 and the same year we bought our first house 4 bedrooms 3000sqft near Fairview Mall. Our first daughter has now just graduated and we plan to fund her on her down payment because we know it's not affordable on her own. The price has gone up not double, not triple or quadruple, but 5 times what it used too and not even near centre of the city. Canada housing is now so bad my husband regrets giving up his Chinese citizenship at one point luckily Hong Kong allows multiple citizenship and we can still go back and settle when things get worse. Sucks for my kids who have never had much experience outside of Canada so they will need to learn and cope for better or for worse.
