I am glad and happy that canada gave me home but i continuously get discriminated at work ,and i always cry inside ,as matter of fact i give my 100% to the campany more than majority of the other guys

For the shopping experience, they have the guys go in carrying hand bags. That's going to get their attention since shoplifters could easily put things into the bags and most people don't bring computer bags, hand bags etc when they shop.\n\nI've had instances where people were awful to me for no apparent reason (I'm white), and it struck me that if i was black, I would attribute the terrible treatment to racism since I couldn't think of any other reason for the bad treatment. \n\nAnother form of racism not covered here is the racism of low expectations. If people assume that you are too dumb to understand something or too poor to afford something, that's wrong. Same holds true for treating women as if they won't understand. Usually this behavior is done, not by bad people, but by people who just haven't had a lot of interactions with different people of different races. So they haven't had the chance to have those stereotypes personally disproven.

I feel for anyone being discriminated against, here its really hard to get an apartment if you are on assistance, ODSP. Is for disability of many types. All you need to do to see it is go on kijiji. Students and working individuals. And you might think they have their reasons but I have paid my bills. I am quiet, if that isn't discrimination. Enough said. That guy is a scared guy. To be fair every time i go to best buy i get asked by every single employee if i need help, im a 26 yr old white guy. It's just what they're trained to do to help sell their products, it is really annoying though

you guys should also try going to the Philippines or any other Asian country and being white.. try and get a cab.. they will all ask you if you need a ride.. but you pay tons more than the locals would.. it works both ways and it's just normal... get over it... I think in like these schools or job positions it should be about the skills of the person not the race or gender. If for example 2 people apply to a job and one is black and one is white and the white one gets picked because of his skin color then that shouldn't be acceptable. But let's say that the white guy had better skills in that exact position than the black man then i think the white guy should be picked. It's about the skill not gender race etc.

This happened in the US but I was working at Panera and two really nice ladies wearing burkas came to order some food and the old white guy cashiering refuses to cash them out because of what they are wearing. \n\nThat's straight up discrimination, I hope they didn't know why he wouldn't served them because that's horrible and he should feel ashamed. That was the first time I witnessed discrimination and I couldn't believe someone would do that, but I see it's common everywhere, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. The white guy they used in these test is a lot more socialable looking than I am and I am sure I would get the same treated I am even being white.\nI also worked for best buy and was told to ask people if there was something I could help them with if they look suspicious and standing in one place by a shelf is just one of those things. That is just common practice.

If two people come in and ask about an apartment, it makes complete sense for the second guy to get a higher price, because the landlord is going to feel like he has multiple offers coming in. It doesn't prove that the landlord is biased, so much as that he's changing prices to increase his chances of an optimal offer. These kinds of effects are things that economists try to control for when they do these studies.

My son worked at Superstore and he said it was 90% Natives stealing and being caught for shoplifting. Women with carts full of groceries surrounded by little kids as shields trying to walk out without paying. And when they were stopped they shouted “racism”! I live next to a shoppers drug mart and I see natives stealing and walking out without even hiding things and shoppers can’t do a damn thing about it. Never seen a black guy or a white guy do it but many natives, mostly stealing mouthwash. Cops don’t bother showing up unless it gets violent

I'm white, and in certain stores, with overzealous sales assistance, I might get approached more than that black guy was... but I don't have to question whether its targeted, it's got to be a burden on your shoulders.

The Best buy test is utterly inaccurate. Those workers get paid on commission, so they are incentivized to ask customers for help and to make a sale. Maybe the second guy just happened to run into more than the first...

I'm a white guy who lived in another country that wasn't a white majority country. There is discrimination in western countries, but there are ways to deal with it. The discrimination I had to deal with every day was much more than this, but nobody wants to know about that. The way I lived for those several years was to realize that I was different and I just had to maximize dealing with good people and when I knew that I would have to deal with something like having to get an apartment, I took that countries national with me knowing I would get a better deal. I was grabbed by officers at night and threatened. basically whatever is faced here, I had on a regular basis. At first, it pissed me off, but later, I came up with a way to maximize my life to get the best treatment I could. I didn't think I would be coming back to America, but eventually, I came back for more schooling and ended up staying.

Quit watching it not even minute and you can already see him race-baiting. The lady told the white man that the price was not set but it would be roughly around 900. The other guy came and and she gave a set price of 930 and tried to insinuate that it was cuz our racism. She said it was around nine hundred for the white guy didn't put a set price. If it’s not “one thing”, it’s a “different thing”; most people in my socioeconomic position gets uncomfortable treatment in many situations. Personally, I’ve been a target for guys (of all ages & job status, married or not, a bum or not), to “hit on me”, ALL my life & I wasn’t taught ways to deal with this. It sounds “petty” to some people or maybe “flattering”, but actually, when it comes from anyone & everyone, it’s NOT nice! And there’s no one I can “sue”. There’s not even a place where I can get “help” & guidance. \nIm certainly glad I made it a priority, with my daughters, to explain, advise & guide them about how to deal with their level of attractiveness. ???????????

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.

For me I will say I hate going to Walmart especially when going through the self check and I'll have 2 items and they was sitting at there spot until I ring up then all of a sudden they're in front of me acting like they grabbing air. I can only laugh cause despite the beard look I know what I make and I can only be humble towards them. And I go out my way to show my receipt if I dont have one of my items get bagged. Even worse I went in to target and was one after maybe 5 minutes. A guy literally bounced side to side in every isle I was in while standing 5ft from me lol. Didnt even attempt to hide is actions.

I feel that most people really watch the native guy because he seems sketchy bc he really believes the world hates him. The black guy seems like he is content and does get mistreated at first due to stereotypes but his presentation seems like that will weed off any first thoughts

I think what happens is people get grouped together from someone elses behaviour. I remember in Toronto in the 70's a guy from India or Pakistan planted a garden in a room of his apartment. The tenant below called the landlord to say there was a leak upstairs and his unit was being flooded. People judged all people of his ethnic background to this man's standard. You think that landlord wants to take another chance.

I’ve had this happen, I’ve been profiled in CVS twice and while I’m being profiled I’ve watched a White guy on one occasion and a black guy stealing like there was no Tomm. \n\nLol.. I didn’t say anything to management but I get close to them and say,” I see you and you know you wrong.” They stop and walk out.\n\nI’m sure they come back later but for a few hours I foil a theft.
