He must to prove that his life and life of his family was in danger, that he was discriminated and absolutely not have other choice, but ask for refuge in other country. It is very difficult to prove, even if it is true. 90% of all entry asking refugee status will go home. It look like he should try to make professional immigration and not waste his time on something that he never receive\nIt is amazing, how he feel in title, real refuge simply not have 15000$ to spend on lawyers \nJournalist must learn a little bit about subject before report on it.

Getting a visa or any form of legal residence in Canada is a pain in the ass, I know because I've tried. I was gonna move up there full time from Los Angeles at one point and I spent 10 full months applying and waiting and still got denied. I wasn't even a refugee either, they make you prove what you have to contribute to the country as far as skills and education and it's very difficult to get accepted

yup. It would be really difficult to immigrate to Alberta now. Our unemployment rates at ridiculously high, our provincial deficit is out of control, and our main resource is showing few signs of actual recovery. It's probably the worst province to attempt to move to. This is a sad story, and it breaks my heart, but I definitely understand why cases like this are so common.

I am sorry to make such a frivolous comment on such an important topic but the woman at 19:30 (Bev Ann?) is SO beautiful, like wow. \n\nBut on a more serious note, I think most of us have inherent biases to some degree (those who took these tests and indicated they don't have them - kudos to you). I openly admit I do too, and I think that's difficult to prevent if you've grown up without being exposed to a particular race or ethnicity, so I don't beat myself up about it. I think what we CAN do is make ourselves aware of our inherent biases and try to examine ourselves when we are forming impressions or making decisions about people and make a conscious effort to educate ourselves about and increase our interactions with people with whom we are unfamiliar. Ultimately, it's a fear of the unknown, so the more we know, the less we fear. I have my work cut out for me and I try to make small improvements every day.

I'm tolerant, liberal individual, I'm qualified and speak English fluently, always wanted to move to Canada but they make it really difficult for me, oh boy if only I was an Islamic fanatic who believes those who question my religion should be beheaded, then they would open the doors wide for me as it seems.\n\nSame goes to the UK, they let everybody that they shouldn't let, in, those who would try to absorb the culture and make it better, they don't let them in, great policy.

I was actually mocking the very poorly worded comment above that was suggesting the the UK will soon be Muslim. Maybe that didn't come across or you find sarcasm difficult to grasp. and fyi, if it wasn't for the inventions of the arabs (how to make steel; performing difficult operations; make drugs from chemicals; morocco, an arabic country, set up the first 'madrasa' or university in the world; built complex clocks; changed the numeric system; astronomy) in the 8th - 13th centuries. you wouldn't have had the knowledge to build upon these scientific findings that you seem to love so much.
