So that is why Canadians mention school shootings as a reason, because the potential is real for it to happen. It is preventable tragedy but Americans as a whole need to want that change, until it does the rest of the world will always bring up gun violence and school shootings when the U.S is in the discussion. Canada has a weird system where the border is guarded by CBSA but patrolling it done by RCMP, that's like saying CBP guards the border but the federal police (FBI) patrols them (in real life it's ICE that does this).
