As a landlord - I had this happen to me .\n$35k in unpaid rent which I never got back after the tenant moved out .\nI learnt that the tenant had done this to 2 other landlords prior .\nIt’s a shame - my house was priced fairly and was a brand new home . There was no reason to pay other than greed .\nI have since sold the home and moved on : it’s one less home for people who can’t afford to buy at the moment to rent .\nThis stupid system needs to be overhauled .

I landed in Edmonton 2003 as a immigrant and it was a such nice country back then, rental price is very reasonable. Since Justin became premier, everything got worse, high inflation and less job makes Canada no more a affordable country for Canadians. So it is time to change

Easy answer: we have housing- we dont have AFFORDABLE housing... blaming the housing crisis on migrants instead of taking responsibility for their failures as politicians who have not kept up on infrastructure and then baiting us against each other so we dont blame the actual problem. Banks raise the cost of mortgages, which in turn raises rentals. This is not the fault of ppl who have had no say in our systems as they just got here, they didnt choose when they're approved to come n work n live in Canada.

They have done the same thing here in Australia. Immigration tap is on full bore, basically zero housing available, 10-20 immigrants crammed into each house. We have Australian's earning 6 figure incomes sleeping in their cars because there is just no homes available (even if they can afford it). Our governments hate us with a passion.

Considering the population increase is causing rent and housing prices to double its no wonder we have massive issues.\nCanadians deserve places to live they can afford. Not to make foreigners hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I lived in a new condo where they had a twin rental tower (over 1000 units) and they couldn't find more than four people to move into it in almost two years because of the price and the credit requirements. When you own a home and are renting it out. You are fully responsible for the housing of the tenant. This is the rule in Canada. You want to take on the task of being a landlord then this is what you got to deal with. The rent amount must be so ridiculous that this poor girl can't afford it. ?

When I think about my time in Canada, it's bittersweet. I moved there for my undergraduate studies and spent 5 great years soaking up the Canadian culture. After graduating from McGill University, I had a tough time finding a job. In total, illegal immigrants cost the local, state and federal taxpayer over $100,000.00 annually per illegal immigrant. This, while a full time minimum wage worker that pays these taxes cannot afford a single room basement apartment in a bad neighborhood.

I have only been in Canada for seven months now, but I noticed a few things about its economy that led to this mess. I noticed that Canada has no globalized companies, meaning the government only makes a little money from doing business with other nations. Businesses here are lazier than their neighbor, the USA, or even in my country, Vietnam, which could be due to a lack of competitors. Cad also has the biggest forest reserve and largest oil deposit but is the lowest exporter. So I wonder how on Earth it stays in the top 10 wealthiest countries with such lazy activities. Up to this point, foreigners are the biggest income of Canada; this country is truly built on immigrants. To keep the country running, it must attract more foreigners. Without int' students, how much do citizens have to pay to keep schools running? If you view it differently, the government also sells the PR through SV Visa because, let's be honest, if millions of investors have invested, there should be something or at least one globalized company, but there are none. From $75k to $200k, foreigners can buy PR for every family member. It is considered affordable for Asian families compared to the USA or Australia. On top of that, another scam is a carbon tax, which means the government needs to learn how to make money rather than invent taxes and sell dreams to foreigners.

Instead what they can provide is more and more higher-end housing. The national government has never connected the various aspects of immigration so that now Canada's largest cities simply cannot cope with the number of incoming migrants.

What I find very strange is that immigration is an issue ONLY in the western world . In other countries it is not and mainly because if you are a foreigner you will always be a foreigner so things are clear from the start . \nSo as a foreigner you will have to put your kids in private schools , get a private health insurance etc …basically you will have to do what the wealthy locals are doing , difference is that they could use the public services but they don’t . \nAnd so for if you cannot afford to bring your family (also the type of visa you get will tell you if you can ) then you come by yourself , make your money and go back home . So the system automatically regulates itself . Simple .

I hear from news, they will close all sanctuary cities across US in 2025, massive deportation start in 2025, taxes hike 4x in 2025 than 2024, including the price of the food & rent. A lot of US citizens can not afford to live for daily basics, it is mean don't have enough money to live. For illegal aliens they get support from our government to live like a king & a queen, live in 5 stars hotels in NY, free money, free health care, free phone, get a job under the table, etc. What guys think about that?

I live in Niagara Falls all my life. I can’t afford to keep my self and son fed without assistance or barley keep the lights . 10 mins away they are living in hotels, getting food, diapers. Hygiene all for free as well as a monthly pre paid card or cheque from 1800-2800 a month… I’ve lived here and payed taxes for over 30 years. Where is my help?

Cherry on top are the income taxes. Cost of living is ridiculous expensive because not much is left in the bank after the government takes their part. I was able to build some wealth in Canada and left as soon I could. Being taxed 53% to live next to an injection site? Waiting MONTHS for healthcare? The student visa is being falsely advertise as a way to get permanent residency status by school operators. Here in Calgary, I see different so called schools operating in small bays on the ground floor of high rise buildings, almost the size of a convenience store. Now in NL, foreign students are protesting, demanding that they'd be given PR status, because that's what they've been told after finishing their studies.\n With regards to housing affordability problem, do these politicians know anything about the Law of Supply and Demand?

nobdy is stopping canada to make new housing infact its job creation opportunity but it is not making affordable public housing for new immigrants and creating problems for itself instead of utilising the migrants to grow its economy by gnerating more income generation opporuttnities by developing new cities north of canada by giving incentives like fixed minimum awages for 5yr money, pr after 10yr of continous living, etc. to new migrant by promoting new public universities in provices located north of canada along with making lives costly in existing cities in provinces in south of canada along the US border. for new migrants by limiting population and housing in city as per Un standards for minimum living conditions.

As an Australian watching this putting the cause of housing affordability and homelessness on immigration is BS. Our country has a major housing crisis and homelessness situation and lack in housing and governments not investing in development is key. If there is further truth to Diana McNally saying the housing development sector in Canada is privatised, that's where one of your issues lies.\n\nMy bottom line: if you think immigration is the cause of lack in housing affordability, go try living in the country those immigrants came from. They have reason to move.
