Many expected to come to Canada and live for free. They wanted to live out of hotels and get room service for three meals a day. I have lived in canada my whole life. \nHere are the main hurdles:\n1. Cost of realestate and cost of living. You need white collar wages just to be able to rent, not buy, rent an apartment in most major cities. Cost of homes is insane as well.\n2. Jobs often pay low wages below what is needed to afford to live unless its white collar or trades working overtime hours. The jobs that do pay well often get hundreds of applications making your chances lower.\n3. Dentists cost an arm and a leg. The cost of it is insane unless you have a really good coverage plan from your job. \n4. Healthcare moves at a snails pace. Not good if you have a serious illness or disease.\n5. The climate overall sucks. Its not cold. Its ridiculously cold.\n\nMy advice: Be made of money. \nSeriously though, have a huge savings and have a long term financial plan. Getting jobs that pay a living wage here as newcomers here are HARD to get because they always want Canadian work experience. University education from other countries other than the US, UK, or Australia don't count here. Be prepared to live very humbly unless you are just made of money.\n\nI dont even want to live in canada anymore. I am almost 40 and have very little to show for it despite working full time jobs with overtime my whole life. Looking at going almost anywhere but here. The housing crisis and cost of living are the dealbreakers for me. You shouldnt need to be making $75k/year just to afford to RENT a decent apartment. Theres something wrong here.

I know of a situation where a canadian woman was living with a man who after he got his pr call the cops on him saying he rape her. He is now in jail because of her lie and can't wait to leave as this seems to be the norm for women there to use the men then get them in jail by lying to the cops. The government needs to start looking into this or canada will become a place no one will want to even visit.

Canadians are building their society with a complex of inferiority towards any confident person. They are afraid of people seeing the deep flaws in their society, which is based on CONTROL while fighting any single sign of growth, from personal achievement to collective endeavours. The system is deeply crippled, they lack an authentic belief system proper to the people of Canada: All seemS very fake! Mimicking the US issues and life style is not more working because canadians have their own problem that they stifle and refuse to face since they always portray themselves as “nice people”. I think that immigrants need to understand that until immigrants are 4th gen in Canada, they are not generally fully assimilated...Canada' brings immigrants in for their kids (second gen)...but by third gen...least successful group. Immigrants need to know that our great grandparents suffered a lot for what looks attractive today...and every successful Canadian story has started with roots of immigrants suffering, including my own forefathers. There's a naive perspective that immigrants will just automatically be Canadian with equal opportunities. Not being racist...Married an immigrant, and it threw me to first gen status in the country because of my husband's status as immigrant.

Waiting for more than 2 years with little progress can be incredibly frustrating and demoralizing for PR and Citizenship applicants who are eagerly seeking to build a new life in the country. It often takes three to four months just to schedule a blood test, and another one to two months to see a doctor. These extended wait times can significantly impact individuals' access to timely medical care, highlighting the need for improvements in the healthcare system's efficiency and accessibility. It's essential for officials to empathize with the plight of applicants and work towards more efficient and compassionate processes. Canada's reputation as a welcoming and inclusive nation should extend to its administrative systems, ensuring that everyone has a fair and timely chance to contribute to Canadian society.

Canada needs to stop these migrants from illegally crossing our borders, we don’t want to become like NY or Chicago. We need to be like Texas and put up barbed wires and put up armed guards, not police to protect the Canadian border.

As Canadian born raised here we've tremdious growth over the decades specially inside areas outside the GTA. One the biggest issues facing everyone here besides immigrants is taxes / inflation. Our government only looks at those coming from India as cash cow to keep things rolling economically more people more taxes are paid. Canada needs to start being more economic minded by reducing all taxes abroad to make cost of living more affordable.

No surprise there, \n\nCanada is NOT attractive to migrants anymore due to multiple reasons.\n\nSoon a 1 bedroom apartment will probably cost 5000$/month for rent in the Major Cities making it impossible to settle here for newcomers.\n\nThe healthcare system has serious problems due to a lack of Doctors and Nurses who left for better paying jobs in US or Europe.\n\nIf you need immediate Specialist care you will probably have to pay hundreds of dollars just to see someone in the Private sector because the Public Health System has huge waiting lists and is understaffed.\n\nYou won’t be able to get a Government Family Doctor because the remaining ones have thousands of patients already so they’re swamped.\n\nYou can wait even 10 years for a Family Doctor and still won’t get one.\n\nYou can’t be bumped up on waiting lists for Doctors or Specialists even if you are in a critical condition because you aren’t a Celebrity / Politician / Millionaire.\n\nOnly those with a lot of money, status, power get immediate medical attention in case of an emergency.\n\nMost of the traditional medical costs like and eye exam, treating an ingrown toe nail, Physiatrie treatment are NOT covered by the Provinces anymore so you will have to pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars again.\n\nSome Provinces are already copying the US healthcare system which is 100% Private and for profit so don’t be surprised if you you’re gonna have to pay even for an infusion.\n\nThe minimum wage is only 15$/hour in most provinces when in reality you need at least 40$/hour to survive the ridiculous cost of living.\n\nYour typical salary will go 45% to taxes and 45% to rent leaving almost nothing for food / bills / gas / insurance etc. \n\nYou will struggle to make ends meet and possibly starve a week or two every month just to say that you’re “Canadian” \n\nThat is the sad reality but Canada is in a deep hole right now.\n\nUK is in a similar situation too.

This is not the same Canada, we came to, it has changed and believe me changed for worse. Every place is crowded still liberals say we need more immigrants. I can't believe you buy into the Canadian Experience BS. What's so special about Canada that you need Canadian experience?

Educated people with college degrees from other nations can't work right away in their profession because they require canadian experience and bla bla bla. The cost of living is very high, they tax you for breathing, small job market overall. Canada needs to be more flexible in professionals with experience in their fields. They are not looking to be working in fast food chains or anything like that having experience. Canada is a hard place to start from zero knowing the reasons above.

The U.S. is the ultimate planned destination for the immigrants going to Canada these days and the Canadian citizens with good education and training. Canada is easy to get in because Canada needs the immigrants money but the U.S. is where the real money and opportunities are!

I'm a Brit who has lived here 13 years and my advice to any Brit thinking of moving here is not to. If you can live in a nice county and you have a decent job you are better off in the UK. There is a lot of decline in urban areas here, tweaking drug addicts and tent encampments the likes the UK has NEVER seen. It's incredibly expensive to rent if you want to live anywhere remotely interesting. The infrastructure is so bad, unless you have a vehicle or lots of money to keep flying, you will feel incredibly isolated here. Brits are lucky to have such a great network of public transport and close proximity to Europe and all the cheap flights to get you around there. The work life balance is not as good as the UK. Most jobs here will start you on 2 weeks a year and only increase as your service grows. So after 5 years of service you will get 3 weeks and so on. Don't expect 5 weeks vacation until you have put 20 years in with most jobs. Canada is boring, it really is and so are most Canadians who also seem to have no idea what a sense of humour is. I have found new immigrants to be the friendliest, especially those from China, India, Vietnam and the Philippines. Now to the wokeness of the place, oh gosh, it's so bad. The Alberta premier has just announced very sensible and much needed gender reforms which 95% of Canadians agree with. These reforms will protect young gay kids mostly. The left have completely lost their mind over this. Women here are in genuine fear of speaking out regarding their privacy and rights to single sex spaces and sports. In the UK , this is slowly improving I believe. I'm putting things in place so I can leave. I hope things improve once the liberal government are gone but it will take many years to get this country back on track.

I think it is the quality of the immigrants that come to Canada that needs to be analysed. If too many low skilled or people with unemployable skills are granted visas, then any country, let alone Canada, would seem like a tough country to settle and earn. Canadian govt seems to be lenient in allowing too many unemployable ppl to get into the country. This has resulted in an imbalance. It just needs a strong govt which Canada lacks at this point in time. 90% of the problems can be solved within 4 to 5 years if govt stops or regulates visas.

Regardless of all the mud-slinging in the comments, I strongly advise any prospective immigrants to Canada to consider their situation/ aspirations seriously before making the move to Canada. While Canada is indeed a beautiful country, especially from spring to fall, there is no doubt that it has fallen behind severely in recent years. This is a massively underperforming country and people (Canadians and immigrants alike) are struggling big time. There is a massive leadership problem in Canada, where trivial problems get 99% of the attention. Real problems (which are easily solvable by the way) get little to no attention at all. Either there is very little will or the current administration is simply incompetent. Either way, some structural changes need to happen before Canada can recover.

Who on Earth would want to live here? We are such a depressing and failing culture and society. We have placed ourselves in a situation where nothing properly can grow here. Canada will get far more depressing over the next decades. I tell people all the time don't come here, you'll pay more than money for coming here. And I tell people, who are able, to leave. Find a better place to call home. Canada can't be home to people. Not with how we are easily dislodged, displaced and how everything around us is on fire and burning down. \n\nDon't come to Canada unless you're suicidal and want to die, or you happen to be super rich and you can make it. \n\nCanada will be losing many many Canadians in the future. And if I could leave here, I would. But alas I'm a very poor Canadian. So that leaves me with options of suicide later in life, at least Canada is getting programs together for that and the options become more accessible every passing year. As a Canadian born from immigrant parents, Canada does need immigrants from time to time. However, there needs to be a limit! Especially immigrants from less developed countries like India from where the immigrants who come here do not adhere to the culture and laws of Canada.

As a citizen trying to achieve admissions to complete a DVM in Canada, this is a required problem worth discussion. The country is in a deficit for veterinarians but one of the largest schools in Canada, OVC has increased their international admissions over domestic significantly. We need support for domestic students to increase before international students to ensure service to Canadian communities, especially rural Canadian places.

Again I never heard of the solution DORMSSSSSS! Canada dont need too many small colleges, just few in strategic areas where everyone will have access. These schools, they can accept international student but!!! They should have capacity to accommodate like having a dorrrmmmmm for the school. Im mad about this bc in SKorea, where I exchage, they have dorms, here in Canada, you have to find it yourself. We also get our food in the cafeteria which is healthier and have mang options. That 2 alone are solutions itself. You have your money, you refrain us from affecting your inflation so much, we are comfortable and safe and can build better community and many new friends while studying here. The rent could also be used by the schools for scholarship to locals than the rent going to the hands of greedy real estate investors. And now the Canadians are blaming us alone for the housing market? Blame the greedy government and schools!

I think the homicides and violence are closely related to Canada's Xenophia / Racism and Drugs, particularly in Vancouver which has full neighborhoods packed with unemployed Junkies doing nothing.\n\n* Downtown East is where the Cops throw the Junkies if they ever walk around the Tourism area. I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

Canada has vast abundant waste land that needs to be developed... Canadians, like most developed countries, have become lazy and complacent and not hungery for success because their governments have told them we will look after you.

Good at the end of the day, we don’t need to defund things like police, what we need is to defund school. At this point, it’s a useless system that’s been overdated. It’s does absolutely nothing for the Canadian and the Canadian working class, and just gives international student a free pass to a PR statue. Which doesn’t nothing but take up resources. At fanshew college it’s basically a place with a bunch of immigrants using it as a holding cell till they meet the requirement and what’s funny is that all fanshew Programs and degree only take not even haft of the minimum effort to pass and get a diploma. So now we are recruiting a bunch of immigrant who are gonna rely things like our society infrastructure which ends up taking away resources for people that actually contribute to this country. Canada was built by immigrants no doubt. When Canadians are unwilling to do the low pay hard labour, and give birth to kids, there has to be immigrants to fill the gap. Housing crisis is the elephant in the room, it has been around for quite a while. Remember one decade ago in Vancouver #donthaveonrmillion? Its worse now. International students became easy solution/target for politicians to blame because they cannot vote. They were considered as solution of labour shortage back during Covid then there was a labour shortage. Sean Fraser the minister of immigration back then made it super easy for international students to stay in Canada permanently. When he takes the office of Minister of Housing, he starts to point fingers to those students. Who let them into this country in the first place? We need more roads more houses. IRCC needs to work faster to get more skilled workers doctors into the country. Putting a cap on current immigration level is not a good idea.

Amazing you can comment on a CBC news YouTube channel.. you cannot blame the huge influx of immagrants on just students coming here to learn... The federal government needs NEEDS NEEDS to shut down the flow of people coming here from everywhere.. we as a country cannot handle the sheer ammount that they want to bring in.. these people are brough here in the expectance of paying taxes.. but how many are getting their education and leaving for greener pastures? Why would this be any different than what Canadian students do after they are finished with their education.. I have no interest in the plight of international students. I am interested in the plight of Canadians. We need better policy and direction for immigration. Canada needs immigration to be sure but lets be strategic about and do it in a way that is beneficial to Canada.

International students should be allowed to train and learn in Canada. That should not be a green light to immigration however. We need to go back to an organized immigration policy that accepts new citizens based on merit and who want to embrace Canadian culture, not erase it.

Need to stop give work permit to international students it helps froud and schame of business people. Those who came in this country for study bearing all expenses during their study period. According to Canadian census those countries people are less here in Canada bring more students then less students from more people on the there hand bring more students from rich country then south Asian country.

I used to teach and coordinate programs for international nurse, this is spot on - and I have always wondered about Canadian students getting into programs - we need Canadian students who are talented and want to study but cannot afford it. There is so much i could unpack. In general, most of the students are lovely and hard-working, but the intent in most cases is to get a PR status - so most of them stay. Many also are disappointed with Canada - as they may come from a place where they were in a different social class. I know many of my students now are productive members of Canadian society working in their chosen fields. I am proud of them - as the move was not easy and they left their families behind. Considering that most of the world is a collectivist culture versus our individualist culture of the West, there is much to adjust to. Good piece.

Canada needs to limit immigration based on available infrastructure.\nPrices have skyrocketed and people can't find places to live. One building owner laughed in my face and said we aren't building these apartments for Canadians. He explained that he can get one years rent up front from international people and he keeps raising prices.. It's plain to see there is a problem.

International students are not, many of them have parents who came to Canada first , then find volunteer work jobs like nonprofits call centres to qualify for working visa, then apply PR, here is the catch, many of those actually financially stronger than local Canadian, cash buying houses, paying high fees for their kids being international students, they compete local first time homebuyers, they don’t actually need a well paying job, they came here for Canadian IDs . I'm only halfway through but feel I need to comment and well I'm not exactly a new Canadian. But I was born the but grew up in New Zealand. And well why not . I moved over there in 2014 with full rights as a citizen. My trade wasn't recognised. Canada has its own rules about everything. You need to have training to pour drinks in a bar wtf.! But yea I came wanting a better life and well thankfully I wound up in Calgary so eventually I had the money to leave. And come home where know having seen the Canadian shit show I'm killing it here. It saddens me and yes I was that asshole that got trudeau on there cos I seen one rousing speech where he invoked his dad Pierre. And I fell for it. And not to lie I look old Canadian so I fit right in English is my first language and all that. And funnily enough it was the first time in my life where I could say fucking immigrants. It's a brutal place a brutal work climate and well there's a lot that's nice but when it's bad it's dog ear dog. I feel really sad about what's happening, all the mass illegal immigration and yet your a criminal for noticing it. A lot is very wrong, don't get me wrong nz is doing all the same shit too. I went to Canada for prosperity and to change my life lesson I learnt was go home ans do better and that's fucked.
