Is there a smart they won’t come to Canada because even right now Canadians are on the street. It’s just not a good time. Canadians are good people it’s not their fault. It’s not the screw goes right back to Trudeau. A lot of people in this country don’t realize how much of a gift it is to be born in Canada, as a son of two immigrants who left their country, their family, their beliefs only for me to have a better life here in Canada. It’s mind boggling for me how people born here haven’t taken advantage of the infinite amount of opportunities. I have not finished high school but have worked on bettering myself since the day I dropped out, this life is not for the weak minded it’s for the risk takers. If the homeless who lived here their entire life couldn’t make it happen for them and are not happy with their current situation I would strongly advice them to seek help for their mental health, change their bad habits, quit their addictions and if that doesn’t suffice maybe move to a third world country just to experience true homelessness, true hopelessness..

Home prices are on the up in pretty much everywhere in the developed world. But it's true it's more extreme in Canada. I don't see a major housing crash anytime soon and so home ownership will remain inaccessible to a large portion of the population. That said some measures could be taken to calm the market, for example, banning HELOC's would take away some liquidity from the market and thus less speculators. Also producing public housing accessible to a wide range of incomes, with some conditions (like how they do it in Austria) should be a mandate in all provinces similar to the way healthcare is. These measures may not be a long term solution but they certainly can help the next couple of generations.

I tried to emigrate from Germany to Canada in late 2022 and already left again after 3 weeks when I experienced the mentioned reasons. Yes we have higher taxes in Germany but the inflation with groceries and rental is less high and I also appreciate the social security system in Germany more again. 700,000 of the 1.1 million that came to Canada are students. The international student system needs to be overhauled. The university/colleges who want international students must register with the feds. Those with permits MUST BE MADE to build, own, and provide international students with housing. When an international student is offered a placement in a Canadian education institution, they are also offered housing built by that institution. Once acceptance is made, then the details are sent to the feds and the visa is finally issued. This way, everyone who comes, has housing, it takes pressure off the domestic housing market, the students themselves know where they are going to be and how much things will cost, including the housing, and the Canadian institutions who want the stdents, have to now pay for them. This will force the education institutions to build more housing, lower the number of students they bring in, and offer much more remote learning opportunities if the program really does not require the students to come at all. Pass the bill onto the institutions, and the problem will quickly resolve. The federal government is being LAZY. If it wants people, it has to focus on a system that makes sense for people to come to Canada, insure the institutions dont take advantage of these students AND NOT shift the housing problem to the domestic market. The federal and provincial governments also need to organize themselves with each other. The provinces should tell the federal government how many they can take in based on housing stock and unemployment rate, and the feds only grant visas based on those numbers, and the visas require those coming to be in the province that has space for them. This way, you help to take pressure off the larger cities and spread growth to areas of the country that wants the growth. The approach needs to be bottom up, so needs and capacity drive the numbers allowed in.

I came here as an international student, back then you could only get your PR if you studied at an accredited university, not a career college. Back then skilled workers were required, and that is how you were able to get a PR. Canada has changed so much, multicultural has left and more and more there are two cultures dominating. I came here because I use to visit for our annual holidays then decide I liked the culture and wanted to study here. The landscape has shifted , Canadians will soon be the minority and that is not the Canada I want to be paying taxes in. \nThere are always protesters waving foreign flags demanding that the government help their families, love ones in another country, meanwhile Canadians here are loosing their homes , can't afford food, basic life necessities and living in tents. Charity should start at home first.\nResponsible tax payers cannot afford to have kids, why because the taxes we pay are too high, if we're struggling to survive why would we subject a child into this world to experience the same. However, there are millions of dollars in incentives for people who never paid in to come to Canada with their extended family members who are dependent on government support, that we the taxpayers have to finance. The aging population could be address if the affordability could be address for citizens living here and PAYING taxes. If the government wants to bring in aging populations who never worked in Canada, their families should be funding their living here including healthcare, not taxpayers. Invest in your people first , help Canadians become more skilled to fill positions that there are shortages, lower taxes to allow Canadians to have said families and replenish the population , these are the people who would always put Canada first.

Correction if you have a PAL you can own restricted firearms i.e. handguns in Canada. I think gun control doesnt help canadians because most criminals obtain them illegally from the US. I think the best part about Canada that you can't find anywhere else is the people and the landscape. Everyone here is so friendly and willing to help their neighbor. I find when I travel, the world feels much colder than here. Unfortunately it's all these amazing people who are suffering to no fault of their own. I haven't been to a doctor since I moved to Quebec (Born and raised Albertan) and I think it's among the worst of the provinces in terms of healthcare and infrastructure and considering it's the highest taxes in all the provinces. Luckily in Quebec City though it's still very affordable (relative to the rest of the country) but the housing market is still getting expensive here very fast. in 2020 my friend bought an apartment for 300k and within 4 years it's easily almost doubled in value for no reason other than inflation in the market. I love this country but indeed things need to change

By the looks of all the tents in Canada I would say we cannot afford more immigration. We should be dealing with the current housing crisis while pausing immigration until the housing sector catches up. I fail to understand how adding to the housing crisis will help anybody?

This lack of access to health care is a new thing. I agree with your assessment. It now seems lonelier in Toronto. \n\nCanada used to be different because anyone with a good job could afford at least a condo, but life became unaffordable not just for immigrants, but for everyone unless you are in your 50s-60s and own a home. \n\nI have friends working double jobs supporting family back home in other countries, but for some of them the family back home sound like they are doing better than them and own a home. It’s like they are sacrificing their life to be in poverty or full of hardships and their families get to go out for dinners and drinks with friends. Not them. Not true for everyone, but for some yes and I worry about their own retirement because retirement in Canada without lots of savings means you might be homeless or forced to live with family even if it’s not your preference. \n\n without investments and savings, it will be hard to beat inflation. Getting into debt and getting bad credit can mean not getting an apartment. \n\nThe birth rate is going down because it is expensive to have kids and income isn’t enough to match with living costs. Getting help from government is really not something everyone gets access too. One person might get housing support, 10 others may get nothing. Different governments offer different things. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. I feel like moving as a lifelong Canadian. I love people and love culture. I don't like extremists. \n\nMy problem is simply I don't our government is ethical nor caring to it's citizens, and as far as immigrants go, I am absolutely all for it with a reasonable rate without displacement or a negative sum on people that have built families here already. Canada is awesome, of course it's not perfect, but it's a fabulous place to live (if you can find affordable housing)! Our healthcare is phenomenal and maybe even too good. Medicine is intervening where it shouldn't and probably extending lives that shouldn't be extended. We have an aging population because our birth rate is low. But people need to take responsibility for their health. Most of the inflammatory diseases we all suffer from are preventable and our clinics are congested with people with very minor ailments who likely wouldn't be there if they were paying out of pocket for the visit. Gay marriage is legal, we eliminated the penny, we finally banned single use plastics, we don't throw money at space exploration or on our military, one year maternity leave, the Canadian Pension, the old age pension- so many government programs, everyone has access to free healthcare and it took a little too long, but we have MAID, we'll help you die if you're sick so you don't need to suffer. And where I live, we legislated out daylight saving time back in the 70's cuz it's stupid.

The main problem is once you go through the long process of getting a college degree (computer science in my case and 3 years of help desk experience), I don’t get more calls, I don’t get interviews and I get the anxiety that comes with seeing everything getting more expensive, bills pilling up and no income entering the account. It’s dreadful, to see everywhere that computer science is in demand and you have to sleep scared shitless of going homeless. I don’t know if it’s because I’m Hispanic, my skin tone something in the water. I’m not staying in Canada. I’ve been living in Canada for 30 years. Now I’m leaving Canada for an Hispanic Country. In Canada homes are not affordable, I don’t get jobs opportunities even thou the market is statistically healthy, and everything is getting more, and more expensive.

This is very true. I am an Austrian citizen that tried to immigrate into Canada from 2021-2023, I worked my ass off, working 2 jobs for most of my stay and living as cheaply as possible. I still burned through all my savings and a significant amount of money my family sent me to help out. I had an accident and waited for hours for an ambulance to show up, they transported me to a different city because in this town none of the two hospitals had a fucking X-Ray machine. Then the next morning the hospital in the other city kicked me out again, with a fucked up back, because there were no beds available. Had to call my neighbours to come pick me up again (thank you Tracy, love you) because I couldn't get home anymore. Lost one of my jobs thanks to this and started a different one, couldn't afford live in BC anymore and moved to Winnipeg because I heard live there is cheaper. It is, but not significantly so, but you pay for this by living in terrible conditions. Rent was still high, salary was shit, the public transport system is.... Existent but not reliable and the city is so incredibly dirty. There's garbage everywhere. Between my apartment and the nearest dollar store was one garbage can and that was a 20-30 minute walk, here in Vienna there's garbage cans everywhere and thanks to them the city is cleaner. \n\nAnyways, I gave up on moving to Canada and came home. Still dealing with my fucked up back (though it's getting better thanks to Physio and a good doctor) and the debt I accrued in the last few years. But my apartment costs less than half for the same size, my job earns me significantly more money, my phone plan is better and costs less than half and the food is both much much cheaper and much much better. \n\nI am happy with life now. Thank you Canada for showing me how bad even other parts of the developed world are, I really learned to appreciate Austria while I was away.

Country were you pay tons of taxes, but you don’t get good medical care, they make you wait and don’t have enough medical staff to help people.\n\nYou get underpaid, the salaries don’t keep up with cost of living.\n\nA country where you don’t elect your prime minister. It is just the clown that happens to be the leader of the party that gets more seats in the parliament.\n\nAlso you need to ask for government permission even for doing stuff in your own property. It’s a scam for sure I’ll be planning my escape from Canada before I get too old and break a bone in the winter because I slipped on ice I didn’t see because the city didn’t clean the sidewalk properly.

This lady obviously comes from a rich family and not used to do things\nThe Master/Mistress - Servant (Naukar) divide in india is such a glaring example of the Privileged vs Underprivileged \n\nI also come from a highly privileged family in Hyderabad, but now when we go back to India for holidays with the children, we make sure that our domestic help is not abused. They eat the same food as we do and are given all the facilities that we use in including going out to restaurants and other places such as the Zoo or fun parks\nI have lived both in Canada and now in USA and can say without hesitation that the Western way of life is much more human\nThese countries have a much higher level of tolerance for foreigners \nAlso, career wise both countries have given us amazing opportunities \n\nYes we do miss the social life of India, but in big cities of the West that loneliness gap is beginning to shrink as well\n\nLastly we Indians live a life of dual values. Ghar ke andar kuch aur ghar ke baahar kuch- this is not the case with Canadians/Americans.
