Many people are leaving Canada because they have already obtained Canadian citizenship. Hopefully, they won’t come back to collect free retirement money as a low-income family from our government after they retire!

Vancouver real-estate is essentially a money laundering operation for rich foreigners looking to stash their money somewhere. Protections were put in place a little to late back in 2016 with the foreign buyers tax. But honestly most of these foreigners can either be exempt from this tax with their citizenship loop hole (anchor baby) Or honestly they just pay the fine since they can afford it and just need to get their money out of the country they are coming from. Its quite dystopian because building more homes like the government keeps promising isn't going to solve the problem either. This is because its just going to add more to the volume of housing that the foreigners can buy up from the locals and adding more fuel to the problem. Immigrations Canada is lying to new comers. To top it off, BC just recently passed a law in 2024 where you can no longer build single family residences in the lower mainland area. WHERE are the families going to go then? Can anyone even afford a family anymore? Vancouverites like myself who were diligent and saved every penny are walking away from mortgages in droves because who wants to lock into a 30 year term amortization period where at rate plus prime your looking at 5.5%-7% where the bank makes more than double in interest from you. Over the course of 30 years you still lose because even if your property appreciates past double. Capital Gains will take into effect. Your loosing money no matter what! It truly is a nightmare designed to enslave you financially. This is simply wealth creation suicide. Came from immigrant parents in the 1990s, I slaved for 10 years during my twenties, didn't come from wealth, didn't party, didn't have fun, studied hard, and started a business and I still cant break into the Vancouver market. So I ended up just barely squeaking into the market in Abbotsford. Vancouverites as a whole are screwed. Time to pack up and move to Alberta I suppose. I will also preface by saying that most of BC is empty and that it would make sense to built outside of the Vancouver area as Vancouver has now basically become fiscally unlivable. It might make sense for the next government that come into power to decide to invest in building in other towns and cities around BC to incentivize Canadians to move.

I saw an interview with an immigrant who stated that Canada has no culture. It is simply fragments of cultures from all over the world. That is the problem with multiculturalism. Eventually there is no longer a true sense of national identity, only one of shared citizenship. A passport however does not create a sense of unity. A country with these conditions is not a true nation, it simply becomes an economic zone that is up for grabs by whatever demographic becomes dominate. The end result will only be balkanization.

These students think they bought citizenship when they were invited here to study. Yes it's predatory, but you can easily google Canada and find out that we have some of the highest cost of living in the world. What they fail to say here is that Canadians are struggling really hard right now and the students are taking up housing and food from charities further exacerbating this crisis. They are also rude and have no interest in speaking to anyone outside of their own culture. On top of that the men need to realize sexual harassment isn't normalized here like in India (i travelled therefor four months and was relentlessly sexual harassed and assaulted) stop being creepy to western women. It's gross and it will get you nowhere.

Moved to Canada in 2016 with skills ( international exposure : UK and Taiwan ) but sorely disappointed to learn the harsh truth of job scarcity/ expenses right away. Lost my self confidence and accelerated my aging. I think there is a bigger sinister scheme behind attracting immigrants. Got my citizenship in 2021 and promptly moved out. ?People wait for citizenship to enjoy more rights, sadly I waited for citizenship to leave the country. Loved the land though.

To be frank, if you lose your citizenship. You lose your right to demand from indian government. I am in the usa. i don't have a right demand visa for extension. This is not my country. Just follow the law and get out when the terms of the visa end.

According to the news we broke 40 Million residents in Canada in the new year. They just announced that the Canadian population is already at 41 million as of last week. How can we absorb this many people. I would say the majority are from India. A lot of these new residents are amazing. But hear me out......For more than 70 years Canada has accepted diverse immigrants from around the world. These immigrants have always had challenges with acceptance and integration as they bought homes and had families and raised children to be Canadians. But these immigrants are economic migrants. They don't want to be Canadians like they used to. They want the PR, and the citizenship. But they want to work and move all that money out of Canada back to India. Then when they retire, they themselves will dump all their Canadian assets and move to India where cost of living and home ownership is exceedingly less expensive. Even their federal government pension plan money will move out of the country. I'll be totally truthful...MY perception of these economic migrants is that THEY HATE US. In India they are educated, come from Middle class and upper middleclass families. They want the PR and Citizenship so they can eventually pull their entire family from India over to Canada. But they have to Work at Burger king or Tim Hortons when they arrive. And the HATE and resent Canadians for it. \n Canada allows people to keep their foreign passports and citizenship. There are 300,000 people with Canadian citizenship living in Hong Kong, There are 450,000 people with Canadian citizenship living in Lebanon with a War about to expand across the border. 20 years ago, international students were the cream of the crop. They usually came from upper class families and were wealthy. Some of these were my friends, who went to boarding schools abroad and decided to come to UT for their bachelor's. Many went on to graduate school in the United States or Switzerland and never came back to Canada again. They were not here to be Canadian citizens. They were already very wealthy and there was no incentive to be here. I learned a lot from their experiences. The international student route was never meant to be a pathway to citizenship.

So hindus lie to hindus and Canadians have to pay prize, if any hindu comes in Canada to study, that's all, they say they lived 3 or 4 years, payed tuition for college, so according to their rules now it is time they to get citizenship. But the truth is, they payed in order to get a degree, then go back and work in their country. Ridiculous that They even say, 1 brings whole family later, so multiply 1 on 4 or 5. Do people in Canada have to live by Canadian law and order or how hindus make up rules and decide? I heard that Canada already looks like an india, they are already becoming majority not only in Canada but in the whole world, billions of them!!!

People who are living in Canada with citizenship of another country are lucky, I've been here 12 years and I'm heading back home next year.

Why do they come to Canada, if not for the benefits? Why do these countries not set up their own Universities, where former international students go back home and teach their country and students what they learned here. It would be cheaper for them, and they can stay in their own country. But, they don't want to do that as they see Canada as the country of opportunities to bring their whole extended families here. We are already facing housing shortages, and don't need any of this type of opportunistic citizenships. They need to drastically cut the amount of foreign students allowed in. This year they are allowing 485,000 students. This does not take into account the students who are in high school or those studying for their master’s or doctoral degree's. In total it is 552,000. Then add on the Immigrants at 485,000, illegals or asylum claims( which is at record high numbers, could not find the figures for this year), then the migrant workers which are estimated between 700k to 900k. This is all too much. Drastic cuts need to be made, and this government that allowed all that to happen needs to be ousted out.

It was a student visa not citizenship lol you got to full out the correct forms and be qualified for that.

I've renounced my Canadian citizenship, I don't know the country I grew up in

So I checked the Canada Immigration page and this is definitely federal liberal government created problem. They have opened up the immigration flood gates wide by creating federal Atlantic Canada Immigration program where pretty\nmuch anyone without skills will qualify. Then they can freely live any place in Canada. But they still have to apply. Not just walk in and ask citizenship.

IRCC needs to increase the threshold to become an actual citizenship not just loophole or 3 year stay. If we need people in certain industries, then give work permits.

As a Canadian citizen, I see that there are 3 major issues at play in this problem - \n\n1) Canadian colleges are starved off funds and do not have a sufficient, stable source of revenue. Hence they seek to attract international students who pay (at least) 4X the fee a Canadian citizen would pay. According to mainstream media such as The Globe and Mail, National Post and others, International students contribute some where between $15 to $18 billion per year in revenue to Canada. This is huge!\n\nSince this is a lucrative revenue stream for them, they have gone overboard and are providing strong financial incentives to education / immigration consultants to bring more international students here. Consequently, many existing as well as new colleges are encashing on this trend and diploma mills have mushroomed in Canada lately. This is ABSOLUTELY Canada’s fault and the accountability of fixing this lies with Canada alone.\n\n2. International students who come here often end up taking humongous debt or selling off their homes/ancestral property to be able to afford their education and hence they feel cheated when the dream they were sold doesn’t match the reality. \n\nHaving said that, International students do need to understand that they are here or a temporary visa and DO NOT get to dictate terms to Canada. It is Canada’s sole prerogative to extend their work visa or not, depending upon Canadians requirements.\n\n3. The Trudeau Liberal government benefits by giving these students extended work permits and a pathway to citizenship as it translates into votes for them. However this is an atrocious approach to winning elections and puts unnecessary pressure on the system. \n\nCanada needs to streamline this whole student visa process and take stringent action against these fake diploma mills, education and immigration consultants luring foreign students. It damages Canada’s reputation.\n\nLastly, extend the work permits of only those students that meet Canada’s labour standards and requirements and send everyone else back home.

These students are from very wealthy families who often have housemaids and servants to do domestic chores and who can afford to pay ridiculous student tuition for a second-rate Canadian post-secondary education. There are top Indian schools where it costs maybe 1/8th the cost and the education is very, very good (e.g. Indian Institutes of Technology) and certainly better than what they are getting in these second-rate diploma mills in Ontario. Moreover, there are very good tech jobs in India in cities like Bangalore. What these students are really after is Canadian citizenship, through a pathway that does not require strong qualifications. They were promised that by Indian immigration consultants. With Canadian citizenship, it is much easier to travel and live in the US, where many of them want to go (and some are even now entering illegally). \nA second reason is that these younger adults want to live independently from their parents. Many of them arriving in Canada are living on their own or with other students, for the first time in their lives, and are enjoying a lot more freedom from Indian social norms such as not being able to date people of a different religion or sexual orientation, or to marry the person of their choice instead of having parents involved. Three or four generations ago, when a lot of immigrants came after WWII, those from India were coming to large research universities or engineering firms and had a job or full fee waiver or university fellowship waiting for them. They were much more qualified and went on to be doctors, professors, business people and other professionals. This is what largely composed the Indian diaspora in Canada, until this wave of students brought along by the current government which admitted over 200K Indian students -- per year.

What about thousands of refugees who are being granted citizenship. \nThey also do not have any right to stay but they are getting citizenship for free.

Unless you have FULL citizenship, you have only the rights your permits allow you. Work towards your full citizenship legally or deal with the restrictions.
