It seems like one of the only viable ways to make money was to work in the city and commute from the surrounding area which is hours of your life wasted and not spent working or making money. \n\nBut even this is no longer as good of a plan because of thr housing crisis. Expensive rent and house prices in big cities like Toronto made a lot of people move out and the rents have risen in the surrounding area where there is less high paying jobs.

Whoevers getting parts of those billions of dollars better be spending it like water so it feeds into the other working canadians and canadian businesses. my two cents.\nand someone remind me..who owns these homes are being built? Are they government ones? Are the schools planning to build more 'residences' -mandate it per school population? And....anything to stop international investors? Though i think the cost of internationals is way too high - it should INCLUDE housing and food at that point.

You have to work from the bottom up that includes investing in education in Canada and getting credentialed In Canada\n\nFrom my observation, they may need professionals, and they may release the skids with your professional degree and professional experience, overseas, and more importantly, with your youth, so that you can work and contribute to the economy, and then finding an employer to sponsor you at a very low wage\nLower than you can survive on require you to have to get a second job\n\nFrom what I hear from the infrastructure and the business opportunities are limited in Canada\n\nEstablish those raised and educated their often for times, find themselves having to choose to mow to the United States for about 5 to 10 years in order to earn a living and then they go back to Canada\n\nThis is not unlike Canadians, especially in the prairies, wanting to travel east, and having to drop down to drive-through the United States, and then re-enter Canada, because the highways aren’t available or to take a flight from one American city to the next near the border because the cost of flights are a lot less\n\nDoes not have the infrastructure or the business opportunities to support a growing economy yet they need to accommodate immigrants because their own population is not reproducing effectively\n\nLooks like a rock and a hard place

Post secondary institutions love foreign students. They charge waaaaay more and make that much more.\nThe response against more foreign students by liberal media is the threat that your tuition will go up with limits on foreign students.\nWhat about spaces? For every foreign student there's one less space for Canadian students.\nHousing is the biggest issue today.\nPrevious to Trudeau, the issue was the cost of detached homes in big cities going up but today it's insane rental costs across the board that no one can afford.\nI have been dumb founded as to why after decades of predictable increases and stock suddenly, year after year, cost went up dramatically as stock dwindled.\nI see the same places available, no one's tearing down masses of cheap 70s built rentals so what happened?\nThen I saw the immigration numbers. Canadians aren't having kids so who is taking all this housing? It has to be immigration.\nClearly, it's time to turn the taps down and allow housing stock to catch up.\nThe ripple effect is that no one can work an entry level job in the city. Who can afford a minimum $1000 month on minimum wage? Even at $20 hour, everyone is hiring but no one is filling positions in cities where there's nowhere to rent. Even these way over priced rentals, a bedroom in a run down house has line ups to rent at $800 month.\nThe only people accessing affordable housing are people on the street or on disability who qualify for it. Low income workers are the most screwed class of people especially if single.

There are way too many. Canada is just one giant diploma mill. Ontario and BC are just states of India now. This is ridiculous.

Most people are not saying no to immigration. We do need some level of immigration. \n\nHowever, we need to slow way down to catch up and make up for the massive immigration of the past 6 to 8 years. Bringing more and more people, when we don't have the infrastructure or the economy to support them, is doing no one a favor (except big companies and landlords). Immigrants come here with the promise of a better life but end up stuck paying 2700$ per month for a closet in Toronto, working three jobs and 55 hours a week where they make 3400$ a month. The housing situation is the worst it has ever been. Rates are high, average cost of house in Canada is now above 750k CAD while the average salary is around 54k. Those are not sustainable figures. We cannot keep accepting 500k people a year, with hundreds of thousands of international students on top of it. \n\nI'm sorry if it ruffles the feathers of some liberal thinkers, CEOs, big slumlords and university boards but this is not a sustainable model. We've been going down in standards of living, despite paying heavy taxes. Something needs to change.

I went to Conestoga college, and I wish your mon read my words. Canadians, should consider that international students are paying around 20k yearly to Canada Colleges institutions that are not offering better education than the one provided in their own countries for way less than 30k. Other developed countries, like Germany or Belgium offer the same programs to international students for around 8k yearly, but, the international students rather come to Canada which also offer an easier path to become PR. But then, they crash with the reality and they realize that even many Indians can't speak proper English to be competitive in a Canadian College or in a Canadian company. Unfortunately, Canadians educational institutions know that the English spoken by international students is not enough but, they send them an acceptance letter from the institution so they can come and study in Canada. So, the real problem are the Canadian public colleges and Universities accepting people with a poor English level from overseas. Canada is a great place to be but, this kind of actions make their productivity poor which is in reality the problem behind the bad economy development when compare with similar developed countries. So, your mon should first blame its own country policies and educational institutions rather than international students for that kind of behaviors when they are students. Also, you should put your self in their shoes, learn German and go to Germany and see how easy is to manage to get a waitress job only in German in a city like Cologne. And then remember that this international students are bringing 20k from their countries economy to Canada each one yearly. Know, think how many Canadians bring 20k yearly to India or Nepal... I am sorry for all the homeless people. I'm from Indonesia and am lucky to have a president who for 9 years has done so much for his people and country. Yes, there are slums in the big cities but very few homeless people living in the streets. We are on our way to become one of the largest economies in the world, thanks to Pesident Joko Widodo..the only president in the world who has the highest approval rate of more than 70%..

What's wrong with United Arab Emirates. I heard they have a good economy. The only drawbacks: I think you need to have a fair amount of capital before they will accept you. And the cost of living is rather high. If I could speak Arabic that country along with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait would be one of my possible choices. The problem with Canada today is that the leaders are all completely inept, incompetent, and corrupt. I guess they think that Socialism is the way to go.

We all like to push this narrative about how wonderful multiculturism is, but is it actually a good thing, or are we simply saying this cos we want to sound very open minded and inclusive? \n\nCountries need to retain their own identity. So if we want to move abroad, we should be willing to integrate in to their society (even if we do have some different beliefs from them in other ways). Moving to another country, not integrating and just hanging out with people from your own country isn't really good for anyone. Real estate in Australia is expensive because the nation is highly successful and ordinary citizens are wealthy, and this includes real estate, plus with 3 billion middle class Asian's right above Australia the Asian economy dwarfs the US economy to insignificance. Job opportunities are dictated by the fields the economy needs - oil is insignificant in Australia compared to other industries. Geographic Isolation - Thank god the rest of the world is far away, as an Australian I wish it was further away. Air fares prior to pandemic were reasonable USA to Australia around $800 return - but this guy lives in Perth so to go 4-5,000km to the east coast will be expensive - on the east coast a one way ticket to another city can be had for around $50 to $80 - Again for Australians proximity to the US market is not significant we are focused on the Asian region. Natural beauty anywhere is amazing but I prefer a warm climate over a frozen one - The Canadian population is all centered around the US/Canadian border region the rest of Canada like central Australia is vastly empty. In conclusion I find many immigrants want to move from Australia to Canada is proximity to the USA but for Australians the US market or lifestyle is not attractive or important.

It's SMH. It's been a harsh few years. People acting like it's Toronto's fault cuz it got affected by the pandemic and it's fallout is just silly. Blaming a city for global problems is just blatent self-centerness. If there's one valid criticism of Toronto it's how vapid some of the people who grew up here really are. Interesting! Making an announcement that you're leaving a country and going to another country before you decided which country you want to go, looks a bit impetuous. Also leaving Canada and going to another Muslim country where literally 99.9% people are trying to go the opposite way makes me think this announcement is premature. \nAlso, I know lot of people that made an attempt to go to India from US/Canada for reasons of not wanting to raise the children in Western Culture. Among them about 90% came back to the West in less than two years. This is a good example of what differentiates a Canadian from a person who holds Canadian citizenship. Not that you're wrong about the state of our morally bankrupt secular culture and government, but that's something that I'm going to fight against. I'm not going to run away, because this is my country that my ancestors spilled their blood for, and it's still worth fighting for, at least to me. This is my 13th year in Canada, I am so sad to see the change, I really hope it will become a better country again with Trudeau stepping down. But we also have to be fair that there are not many countries become better since COVID. Many of you leaving or planning to leave Canada are more like rich country retirees taking advantage of the wage and currency differences between rich and poor countries. So let’s put it this way, if many of you have not worked your whole life here in Canada, will you still have a quality of life in your home countries, such as Southeast Asia or South America? I doubt majority of the population there is make a good money and having great work life balance, and everyone there could afford a decent retirement life. what is more close to nowadays reality is people coming here and hoping they could have a better paid job and settle down here, but most of them found out they are struggling to even maintain their normal life in this country, so they left. For those who came years ago, they made a saving which may not be enough to support a good retirement life here, but is more than enough in other countries, they also choose to flee. Then those successful immigrants will stay here with the option to travel anywhere they want. My son's classmate's grandfather immigrated to Canada long time ago who later become a well known cardiologist and was rewarded as one of the top 25 immigrants Award, all three daughters are now specialists too. I really hope Canada could rise again!

I appreciate the way you present the reality. One way to cope with salaries and taxes is to open you own enterprise. This is the canadian way of growing fron a wealth point of view. As a person leaving from a salary, it is still possible to grow depending on your skills. But beggining your own business to exploit your skills will make you 'fly' to the next level, which is the actual way of growing. It took me a lot of years to realice this. Just think about it, provinces allow medecins to incorporate what means that they will pay less taxes and become richer sooner. This is just my thought, other people may think in a different way, I just try to give positive ideas.\n\nSecondly, Canada is still a country to live in a bit better than other countries considering many things happening around the world. Crime and economics is worst everywhere also. But, it all depends on what criteria counts for you. About society, it's not easy to make real friends except other inmigrants that need it too. I am not Muslim, Christian by tradition, not religious. I am an immigrant in the U.K. for over 30 years and this is my pint of view… One common remarkable characteristic of us, all immigrants, is the fact that we will always criticise the country we are living in, due to the fact that we will always miss our origins, no matter how good or bad both countries are, and most of us subconsciously live our lives waiting for that settlement of living in the perfect place, ideally our original place of birth with all the positives according to the way we think, act and believe. You are a young couple with strong opinions, who will only find the right path for your family by living the experiences, and learning from them. At some point in our lives, reality always kicks in. If you need any service in Canada, from medical (it's not free) to travel (one suitcase free, but only one way on a return flight- you have to pay to bring it back!), paying several dollars to make a withdrawal from your own bank(!), highest internet fees x worst reliability in N America, just prepare to bend over and hold that position until your legs give out. And when you finally fall, you'll notice your wallet is empty. Run, Forrest, run!

Toronto has become a big injection center for drug addicts, that's one of the reasons I left Canada. It was so depressing to see that everyday downtown Toronto or pretending not to see them but the fact is, it was way too depressing and I didn't want to see them anymore. Also, places such as Moss Park have become a shooting place at night for no reason so taking a walk in the park' without taking big risk wasn't an option anymore. Not to mention the cost of living for such a bad quality of life, barely being able to afford buying some basic products such as milk or vegetables. Canada has become so bad. So glad I left and I don't regret it for one minute. There are so many better and friendlier countries out there.

It's obvious that you have never lived outside of Canada. Canada is probably one of the last countries in the world that accepts people for who they are and has a decent level of respect for belief systems. I get that you want to raise your children in a better environment, but trust me when I tell you this... you are walking into a world of disappointment. Canada itself is about 15 years behind other countries when it comes to this downwards spiral you are speaking of. Sadly, you will find out soon enough that this utopia you want to find, simply doesn't exist and you will discover you have left the variable comforts and safety of Canada behind. Frank Baum said it best.... if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. If you are lucky in life you will discover that the world doesn't stop turning for you, and that the world that you dream of for your children must be created from within. That being said, it is good to travel and trying different ways of living is a wonderful education for your children. This is a very thoughtful and balanced review. As a retired Canadian who had a good job for most of my life, I'm saddened by the decline in almost all areas of life, lifestyle and and people's aspirations in this country. This decline actually seems quite rapid, I would say from 2015 onwards. Housing in major centres was expensive, but it has skyrocketed in the past decade. There has been a decline in many institutions: 1. health-care, especially noticeable since the pandemic that coincided with many boomer medical staff retiring, but also by our sclerotic institutions refusing to enable foreign-trained doctors to work here. Many foreign-trained doctors in the Vancouver area are doing jobs way below their qualifications while many people cannot even get a family doctor. Crazy. Econonically, there seems to have been no plan at all from the government as we exited the pandemic. At least the US had a plan, to 'build back better'. Our government just floats along as if everything is fine, when the decline is very visible especially to older Canadians. We have admitted 1/2 a million people a year from overseas, so our economy should reflect this and show an upswing. But no, we're in a 'technical recession' as of December and probably a real recession as of last week. I have never voted Conservative in my life, but Trudeau is a flaky dimwit with a famous name who has no clue what he is doing. A fool, in fact. He's mismanaged our foreign relations beyond belief, and nothing has improved domestically. When Pierre Poilievre says 'Canada is broken', I believe it. We deserve much better leadership; in Canada's case, the rot does come from the top. Justin the entitled idiot is much more like his mother than his father.\n\nLong rant. Canada bends over backwards catering to new immigrants, giving away free welcome packages of essential items, providing free language lessons (when you are supposed to be fluent in at least one official language of Canada when immigrating), giving you instant permanent residency upon arrival allowing you to enjoy free universal healthcare and free primary and secondary school education for the children, allowing you to be eligible for Canadian citizenship after just 5 years of residing in Canada only requiring you to stay 6 months of a year in Canada. After all that Canada has done to help you, you still don't want to stay?? Then leave!! On your way out, try to ask people who try to immigrate to China how their experience is like. Ask them how long they need to stay in China to even get permanent residency and how much they have to pay to send their children to school in China. Jesus! Goodbye!!

Nah… they have never wanted them. Thats why the Palestinians have been there in the first place. Way to make it everyone else’s problem… Literally no one wants the Palestinians because they are demanding and not easy to deal with. The Arab countries refused them entry many times in the past as well, including when Israel took hold of the area legally. If the Palestinians stay, they have to learn how to be okay living in a Jewish state, and they have so far proven they cannot figure out how to do that. They certainly should leave if that is the case to make their lives easier, but answers like this just keep pushing the problem back on the Jews. Then you have to be okay with the only options the Jews are left with to ensure their own people are safe.

You tend to get high taxes in places with free health care. Many use Canada as a bridge country to the US. In the US health care is very expensive. Many companies you would work for offer free health care plans for single individuals ( if you have a family it costs a lot ) but those plans have such high deductibles and co-pays that you can't afford to use it. Most US health care plans have very high deductibles ad co-pays making it extremely expensive. Then when you retire and start getting social security which is not much money by the way, you also get Medicare which also has a monthly charge around $150 mth. It doesn't cover everything. It does not cover dental or vision. It does not cover all your hospital stay which tends to occur as you get older. Most Americans end up having to sell their homes that they spent a lifetime paying off, to pay medical bills and end up on Medicaid which is the free last resort medical care and end up in a nursing home to end your days. Most nursing homes are bad. You end up in a 2 person room, in diapers, up for meals and back to bed, diaper changed 2 times per shift and one shower per week done by whomever in the communal shower room. Shelves until you die, which many do very quickly out of despair. After working your whole life that is the prize folks in the US.
